First of all, I have to admit that I require a special diet. I have had heart surgery and have to watch the intake of butter, saturated fats and salt. I asked the desk to call ahead for me to inquire if the chef could accommodate my restrictions. The answer came back a resounding "yes.." I understand than knowing how to cook low salt, low fat with flavor is an art. I also know that chefs want to please their customers and give them tastes with butter and seasonings. I asked for a grilled chicken breast and some steamed vegetables. What I received was a salad with balsamic vinegar only- not the balsamic vinaigrette i requested, but a small pitcher of vinegar. I put the salad in my purse to avoid insulting the chef. The chicken, main course, arrived with two overcooked small carrots and two turnips the size of small pickles and a small chicken breast with skin. I do understand that cooking for a heart patient can be challenging. But this was less than satisfactory. The server was wonderful. Geraldine did everything she could in her power to make the dinner better, but it kept spiraling downwards. The dessert of berries was terrific. .The bottom line is that I paid $60 plus tip for a small chicken breast. Our entire tab was over $200. My dining partner thoroughly enjoyed her meal. She loved every bite, but then she doesn't have a heart condition and didn't recently have triple bypass open heart surgery. My dinner was stressful, I called ahead, I was specific and I expected to have an decent dinner. I didn't expect to have a stressful experience and to be charged through the roof for a meal that was well intended but ill-executed. I know this is a successful restaurant in a unique setting and for many this is incredible. It would be better if they could also accommodate the request for a heart healthy meal. I, unfortunately, can never come back.
