Yelp
90 degree beautiful sunny day in Minneapolis. What's the first thing on my mind? Ice cream, of course. My boyfriend and I recently laid our eyes on a list of the top 10 best ranked ice cream places in Minnesota, Pumphouse Creamery rated #4. We had to give it a try.
It's a little ice cream parlor in South Minneapolis with only one table inside, and a few tables outdoor. First thing I noticed upon entrance was their unique flavors! I wanted to try so many, so opted for the 5 scoop sampler and decided on Kufi (ground pistachios, rosewater, and cardamom), fresh rhubarb (their best selling seasonal ice cream), lavender, buttermilk w/ a baker's wife lemon bars, and malt vanilla with double chocolate cookies and malt milk balls.
What did I think? The flavors were extremely light and the ice cream itself had more ice than cream. Kufi disappointed me quite a lot and I was kind of thrown off by the odd and unpleasant flavor. Fresh rhubarb tasted like a light vanilla ice cream with bits of rhubarb. Lavender tasted like a minty flower, which ended up being weird as an ice cream flavor. My favorite had to be the buttermilk w/ a baker's wife lemon bars, probably because I love anything lemon-flavored but even at that, it was just okay. Malt vanilla with double chocolate cookies and malt milk balls was my boyfriend's favorite, but was more of an icy chocolate taste than any malt flavor.
Overall? The flavors didn't taste good as ice cream flavors. Too icy. I was definitely disappointed and probably won't be returning. I miss the creamy, rich flavoring of real ice cream.
