"The Mexican restaurant, which reopened in May of last year after a long relocation and rebuilding process, has been closed for nearly a full week, with little to no word of exactly why. The company is keeping diners somewhat informed on social media, but specifics are hard to come by. Ownership says there are issues “beyond our control” that are keeping them from coming back, and that they “do not know the length of the closure.”" - Farley Elliott

"The recently-opened Punta Cabras in Santa Monica is now doing brunch, offering dishes like uni & eggs, a croque maria, and live scallop ceviche. Hours run weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m." - Farley Elliott

"Punta Cabras, the sophomore effort from chef Daniel Snukal following the closure of Tacos Punta Cabras, will offer a variety of dining options. There will be full service for both lunch and dinner, and a broad menu that encompasses seafood, classics like queso fundido with chorizo, a rotating roasted fish curry, and big shareable meat dishes. There will also be cocktails by Zachariah Parks, formerly of Joe’s in Venice, plus craft beer straight from Baja and wines from Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe growing region. Inside, the greater Punta Cabras space will also house a taqueria, playing to the strengths of the original, now shuttered, location. Expect handmade tortillas, fish tacos, braised chicken, and lot of rotating ingredients throughout the seasons. Snukal will also have his own semi-private chef’s table space, where he’ll be able to create one-off tasting menu dishes for diners on a nightly basis as well. The Alexis Readinger-designed restaurant will offer both indoor and outdoor seating, high-top tables for the taqueria, big windows, and more than a few colorful touches. If all goes well, the restaurant should be finished and ready to ride by next Wednesday, serving from 11 a.m. to midnight in the taqueria, and 5 p.m. until late in the restaurant. Even longer hours, weekend brunch, and the tasting counter will come later." - Farley Elliott

"The former Tacos Punta Cabras (now just shortened to Punta Cabras) is coming along nicely, at least according to the company’s official Facebook page. Windows are still wrapped up with a coming soon look, and the plan is to open before the end of the first quarter in 2018. That said, this Santa Monica newcomer should look and feel a good bit different than the previous iteration up the street. Punta Cabras will still offer tacos, but also has room for way more seats, a freshened up aesthetic, a wider menu with full entree options, and a bar. Expect an opening sometime in March." - Farley Elliott

Read about this place in LA Eater. Tried the tofu taco and the chicken taco. Tofu taco was excellent. Chicken was dry but good. Guacamole was also great. Would come back again if I was in the area.

Innovative Mexican. They could be a little fresher and more coordinated service. Delicious food though.

I was so excited for the reopening of Punta Cabras at their new location. We had the best dining experience here a few nights ago. We were greeted like old friends the moment we walked in. The food was phenomenal, and the vibe was even better. We loved the expanded menu options, tasty craft cocktails and extensive tequila selections. Our group of four ended up sharing several delicious dishes. Everything was super flavorful and cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding too, which is impressive considering this restaurant just reopened a few days prior. Bravo to the Punta Cabras team. You’ve literally outdone yourselves! I’m so happy you’re back!

I don't like giving only a couple stars, but hopefully it may get some results. The food here is good to great. But that's the only thing that is working. I went in to get some Tacos to go. While I waited, my food came out, but the bartender was making drinks. I didn't think it would take long to make 4 drinks. 10 minutes later I was still waiting. I don't think the bartender was bad, but rather, she was untrained, which seemed true for most of the people that worked there. I used to bartend, it should take 4-5 minutes at most to make 4 drinks. When I got my food, it was good, but didn't look good. I'm more about taste than presentation, but some effort should be given. I hope they train their staff more. And remember, customer service is key.

Definitely five stars! My son goes to the dojo down the street and we have been waiting for reasonably priced excellent food choice nearby and here it is! Very nice staff. The food is fresh and good the sauces are plentiful and delicious. They also have vegan options. Including tofu tacos and cauliflower toast autos. They of course have Mexican Coke. Also whole coconut with juice. Highly recommended.
