Pupusas Salvadorenas

Delicious pupusas, and they were huge and so full of cheese! I'm used to them being smaller, so it was a pleasant surprise. My favorite was the Jalapeño and queso, it packs some heat. Super friendly staff too!

I've been to El Salvador, I think this place does pupusas even better! Friendly authentic Salvadoran food. I love the horchata too and the empanada was great! I was really impressed and glad I found this excellent place on a whim while stuck in Oakland for a few hours.

Went there and gave us raw food (pupusas), and got ALL of our orders wrong. Says it’s a Salvadoran restaurant but feels like it’s more Mexican (no hate to Mexican restaurants but it was supposed to be a Salvadoran restaurant.) Besides this, the zone is extremely dangerous, we saw a guy walking around with two guns (not police.) Definitely do not recommend going.

I always buy my pupusas there and a plate that comes with beans sour cream eggs and bananas and never had a problem But today i placed and order mind you it was almost $100dls for my order and everything was unfortunately disgusting when I got home with my order my plate dint had the eggs the bananas were not the ones I always get and my beans were no were to be found meaning it was a very small portion and no tortillas I don’t know what’s going on they change owners or chefs but it was disgusting never going back I don’t recommend it

These are not salvadorean pupusas. It is a Mexican restaurant and should said so. The pictures of fried plantain was nothing we got. So price! For terrible food. Never going there again.

Delicious and hand made. I love the shrimp and spinach. They can take an outrageous amount of time, I’ve had orders take 40 minutes more than once. Go if you have nowhere to be.

Wow wow wow!! You must go! All the pupusas are incredibly fresh and tasty. My favorite is beans and jalapeños. They come with great salsas and curtido. Great vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. (Beans are vegan, no lard. And pupusas can be made without cheese. Also their white rice is vegan). Nice service and ample seating.

Decided to try it in spite of the few harsh reviews! The front staff was very helpful even though my Spanish is pathetic and their English was only a little better. Picked up a dozen papusas and then discovered that they would be willing to make us vegetarian empanadas! Those are hard to get. Well worth the wait! The place is not fancy but clean and had a steady stream of customers. Some to eat inside but mostly to go orders. Definitely popular with locals. Give it a try!

Nice little spot, it wasn't too busy when I came in. I ordered 3 pupusas to go, as well as some nachos. The food was good, made fresh to order... it wasn't sitting there under heat lamps. The servers seemed to be attentive to their dine-in customers, so I would definitely come back to try other items.

I was having a craving for pupusas, so I decided to give this place a try. Pleasantly surprised! I ordered 2 revueltas and 1 carne asada pupusa. They were delicious, freshly made and very filling. Great service!

Merp. I just had a couple of their pupusas for dinner tonight and I gotta say, I'm pretty disappointed. They were just alright so I can get my pupusa fix but still not as good as they could be I feel. It just felt like they were super undercooked. Not sure if I would be back again unfortunately.

I've been craving pupusas so we decided to check where could deliver from doordash! Pupusas salvadorenas was the first place that popped up so we decided to give it shot. I'm so glad that we did! The pupusas are pretty worth it! It's a good size for the price! It arrived wrapped individually which I appreciate so that the steam doesn't get them all soggy and stuck together, and I was able to reheat one by one if needed. We ordered chicken & cheese pupusas, and plain cheese pupusas. My favorite was the chicken, and I always order extra curtido (the cabbage stuff on top) because I love it, there's was a little different than I've had before-- it had a tangy taste, but still good! I'd definitely recommend to fulfill your cravings!

Some of the next pupusas I've had, randomly decided to go here and honestly enjoyed them very much! Their service is great and the pupusas were out fresh! I will highly recommend to others !

Its always tough to find weekday menudo, isn't it? It's the type of comfort food where my palate doesn't recognize it's not the weekend. After a brisk walk through Leona Canyon, I took note that this Fruitvale spot on the Grubhub app served menudo and there was no asterisk stating "Weekends only". I was in - even though the traffic around the High Street commercial area gets thick and convoluted. It turned out to be one of those shopping strip mall set-ups where a stream of regulars pick up their takeout orders. I had ordered in advance on the app, so they were just packaging it up as I arrived. The $14 Menudo had a higher price point than most, but it was really flavorful with plenty of tripe and cartilage though I was kinda missing the hominy (photo: https://bit.ly/3EuJQXT). I figured I should get one of their namesake specialties, so I went for the $4 Crazy Pupusa since I thought it would be, well, crazy. Not really. The food was delicious we got coffee also very good with cinnamon added. So if that's not your thing let them know. The staff is friendly ,and it's very clean. We will be coming back.

This was my first time eating Pupusas! I had watched YouTube videos talking about how they're made and the proper way to eat them. Now where's the nearest restaurant? GrubHub/Seamless were offering $5 promos to try this place, so over a 2 day period I ordered: - Pupusa de Frijol y Queso (beans and cheese) - Pupusas Revueltas (cheese, pork and beans) - Crazy Pupusa (chicken, cheese, spinach and jalapeno) - and 2 tacos, pork and chorizo These stuffed tortillas are great. They're fresh, homemade, and are packed in foil and sent in foam takeout boxes. They were still hot when they arrived! The warm creamy fillings are delicious, along with the curtido (slaw) and salsa. Also, the tacos were really good. The Chorizo Taco was really tasty. I will ordering from this place again!

I wanted to update this review with more stars but unfortunately - still not it. I ordered 6 pupusas (4 revuelta, 2 queso) I'd give all 1 star. I've been craving pupusas for the past 2 weeks but with the holidays everywhere's been closed. Well, with no other option I finally decided to give this place another try and was not satisfied. The masa was raw and the filling not tasty. They could definitely change their beans for the pupusas as well, wayyy too runny. We were quoted 18 minutes for our order to be ready as we ordered over the phone and we arrived 25 minutes later and still waited a bit (no problem) but my food was raw.. don't understand how that happened, I wouldn't have minded waiting even longer for quality food. I request the salsa verde instead of their tomato sauce for the pupusas as its spicier and has more flavor but even after asking for extra, it still wasn't enough for all 6 pupusas, wish they weren't so stingy. (Not like we ate all 6 anyways but the salsa was barely enough for the 3 we managed to get through.) Also ordered Platano frito w/ frijoles y crema id give these 3.5/5 they had potential and tasted yummy but were obviously re-fried and some parts super hard and inedible. Overall waste of $40+ and will not be returning, no matter how much I'm craving them lol

Rember to check-in and get the special Yelp offer of a free drink with your order. I got the Guanabana (soursop) agua fresca/natural, and it was sweet and refreshing but a bit watered down. For lunch, we ordered 3 pupusas to share between 2 people: the pork and cheese, beef and cheese, and the "crazy" pupusa (chicken, cheese, spinach, jalapeno). Overall, the tortilla heft and texture reminds me of a thick gordita, yet the stuffed insides were steamed with melty cheese (smells like and made me think of tamales), while there was a light crunch on the outside from being hot off the flat kitchen griddle. Pupusas are made fresh to order, so expect about a 15 minute wait while they roll the dough and wrap your chosen stuffing, then cook it on the griddle. Ordered ours to-go and they were still warm and toasty about 10 minutes later when we arrived at our picnic spot. Pupusas come with a pickled/vinegary slaw of cabbage, carrots, onions, and jalapenos called "curtido". There was also a hot sauce, but it seemed more like a broth to me because the consistency was so watered down and there wasn't any kick or spice in flavor to it at all. Wish I had actual red or green salsa with this. Tastewise, the best was the pork and cheese. The beef and crazy chicken pupusas were rather bland by themselves. Meat didn't taste marinated nor seasoned like the pork. Also, not much spinach was detected in the crazy pupusa. Yet on the plus side all pupusas had a good and fair ratio of meat stuffed inside. Inside the restaurant is a flat screen TV with about 8 to 10 tables. There was various art, maps, and a Salvadorean flag hanging inside.

Bad customer service! I walk in & the big chick at the register doesn't even greet me. She continues on your conversation with the cook, who isn't cooking or cleaning just on her phone. The free drink you get when you check in isn't even worth it. The horchata was not made well, tasted like water with cinnamon only. These pupusas were not authentic Salvadoran pupusas!! They had barely any meat inside! The mass looked raw still (not cooked all the way) I got so sick just eating half of a chicken & cheese pupusas. Lets not start on their salsa & the cabbage for the pupusas. The salsa tasted like a can of tomato sauce! & the cabbage that I love so much was literally just cut up cabbage and looked & tasted like they mixed it with a can of jalepenos.. I should've turned around as soon as I opened the door to this place. Waste of my money.

Some of the best pupusas I've had. To be honest, we tried this place because Platano unfortunately had to close due to COVID. We've now ordered from this place three times (Platano is now open again, so we will definitely be ordering from both). We could tell the pupusas were homemade and fresh. They came wrapped in tin foil, so they stayed hot throughout the delivery. We ordered the pickled cabbage, sour cream, and salsa to have the fixings. The horchata here is also fantastic. Tip: For three people, we got two orders of sour cream, salsa, and the pickled cabbage. This was plenty, and allowed for a lot extra. I would recommend one order of each per two people, unless you typically use a lot. Two pupusas each for us was also plenty of food with the toppings.

Got a to-go order for some pupusas! They were so good and filling. They were not shy about the curtido. Yum!

Got the entire order wrong. Ordered a queso, jalapeño y queso and camarone y queso y zucchini and shrimp tacos. Entire pupusa order came with beans and pork. Shrimp taco was salty ASF. Not even edible. Only thing they got right in the order was the horchata. Each pupusa came properly labeled as what we ordered but the actual food was wrong. Super disappointing considering we can't eat pork. Would never order from them again.

I ordered a carnitas burrito from Pupusas Salvadorenas through Grubhub, took a bite and nearly broke a tooth. Who put rocks inside my burrito? I spit out a hard, fossilized chunk of pork and discovered the entire burrito was filled with this completely burnt and dry meat. I messaged Grubhub who reached out to the restaurant. They claim that the burrito was made to their "standards" and refused to work with Grubhub or provide any solutions. I guess if you expect an edible meal, you're gonna have to lower your standards a bit.

The Pupusas Salvadoreñas owner is very friendly and familiar. They have lots different combinations of pupusas and other Salvadorean dishes, I like the way cabbage salad is served! Always plenty if you eat inside, ask for extra if you takeout. We the Salvadorians know how important is Cabbage salad for the pupusas. !No cabbage salad, no pupusas life!

First of all, I would like to apologize on behalf of all of the sane Yelpers who have not forsaken the good name of Pupusas Salvadorenas. I came here on a work outing, and by the time I got around to eating my food I was so hungry that salted cardboard would have tasted like luxury. I enjoyed my pupusas way too much to be eating them in front of coworkers (I think I violated the sexual harassment trainings I ignored with some of the grunts of pleasure that escaped my salsa stained lips) and I wondered if they would've tasted so good if I wasn't hangry. Fast forward one month to tonight when hunger crept unwelcomed into my life. I spent the day at fairyland with three wild children, and was in no mood to feed myself. I gave my husband three of the hardest options I could think of for him to choose from and sent him forth into the concrete jungle to acquire us the Pupusas he chose. This place is only five minutes away from my house as opposed to los Olivos which is our usual go to spot. When I saw the reviews I have to say I was taken aback. Most of them seemed like heresy, but I was genuinely confused and worried at the prospect of so many fellow yelpers being so clueless. My husband assured me that if I had tried it once and survived that it was worth trying again and thank goddess we did. The woman who took our call in order was sweet as cherry pie, super polite and patient with my hunger induced slurring. The food was promptly ready in the 15 minutes stated and 5 minutes after picking up our glorious patty party I was shoveling them, piping hot, into my salivating jaws. The pupusas were perfect: seasoned and crisp masa stuffed to the brim with oozing cheese, loroco and beans. The tomato salsa was mild and perfect and the curtido tried its best to steal the whole damn show. Almost kimchi-like in its heavy dose of Chile, delightfully tangy chunks of jalapeños and carrots hidden among the red speckled sliced cabbage: a dream come true. In short: y'all haters are tripping, stop trying to keep this spot hidden so u can have all the goodies to ur self. I'm just lying in bed stuffed and so excited that my favorite pupuseria is only five minutes away.

Never ever again will I waste my time or money in this establishment.  I ordered 4 pupusas and was told it would take 12 minutes.  30 minutes later I watch 2 people, who mind you I witnessed order at the register after me get their items before me. When I questioned about it I was dismissed with a oh they ordered on the phone and are picking up. Really? Because I saw them order their food at the register?It was so obvious they were lying that I had to let it off and walk away. Then apparently they thought they could placate me with giving me a menu to their restaurants telling me to order ahead instead, yea right. Not to mention the 1/2 cup portion of cortido (pictured)they had the nerve to give for 4 orders! I could already tell being the only black woman in the establishment and the how dare she/who the f does she think she is being here looks I got from both staff and customers I knew what it was, and any other black woman in the Bay knows exactly what I'm talking about in how some of these places act. I think just the difference in cortido sizes from what I received and what's posted in reviews already speaks for that... Anyway it's nowhere near my neck of the woods so I won't have to waste my gas venturing into the chaotic and disgusting strip mall they are situated in. Buyer Beware.

Very yummy! I was missing Pupusas like from when I grew up. This definitely tasted like from when I was a kid. Good prices too!

my boyfriend and i placed our order of 8 pupusas at 9:10 am and were told the wait would be around 10-15 minutes. mind you, there were no customers before us when we placed our order, 20 minutes goes by and we still have not received our food and we were understanding that maybe it's almost done. throughout this time of our wait we've seen 4 people come in and get their food before us. after the 2nd person we realized we weren't going to be getting our food anytime soon. we felt as though they were doing more talking than cooking in the back as all we heard was them talking and laughing while we were waiting for our food. the woman at the register kept giving us glares probably because she knew they were well past the expected wait time and weren't going to be done anytime soon. for there to be 2 cooks and for half of the pupusas to be just cheese we felt like they were just wasting our time. finally we get our pupusas at 10 am, which was well over the 10-15 minute wait given to us. at this point we've been waiting 40+ minutes for our food. if you don't mind waiting 4x the expected wait time then this place is for you. but if you are hungry and are hoping to eat within the same hour of placing your order, do not go here. the overall store was clean but the service was not it. on top of that, the pupusas were not labeled which made it hard to know which ones were which. the pupusas themselves are good, not sure of they're good enough to wait over 40 minutes though.

Ordered chicken enchiladas via Uber Eats. Received some type of beef plate. I ended up getting a refund adjustment. The restaurant was negligent in preparing and confirming my order. Sigh.... I'm over it. Disinterested in trying this place again.

Very friendly guy cashier, very inviting. Place is small but there is enough tables and chairs Walked-in to order 4 pupusas for Take out, 2 revueltas and 2 cheese with spinach. $2.75 each Waited 20 minutes to get my pupusas, no Problem. QUALITY OF PUPUSAS: They were good freshly made, although the top part fell apart too messy. Also I buy cannned beans all year long, i know what canned beans taste like, they use canned beans, that made me a little sad.

I was a bit disappointed with my order. I placed an order via Uber Eats, ordered carne asada and cheese and revueltas. I got only cheese, no carne asada, and the popusas were not cooked thoroughly, some of the dough was still raw and the revueltas filling did not have the consistency I'm used to. Maybe they had an off night, may give them another chance, will see.

Papusas are awesome that's pretty much all I get. I think they're generous with the veggies that they give you with them so I don't have to order extra like I usually do. Ooo sooo tasty and gluten free

Pupusas Salvadorenas sells mostly salvadorean fare and a few mexican entrees. normally wouldn't order mex eats in a salvadorean eatery since it seldom meets expectations. did so here. slightly disappointed. offerings: appetizers, special plates, smoothies, natural juices, pupusas, mexican food, bebidas(aqua fresca) eats: tongue/beef tacos(2) -lots of meat, no salsa given, natural juices enough, tongue good, beef overgrilled. 3.5 stars, good value, so so quality. footnotes: -not sure why pupusas described as "stuffed tortillas". lst time seen... -free drink with any purchase, passed. didn't think i brought enough. -very friendly service. -parking terrible in lot. -menu not so organized. mex eats seldomly listed in various lists.

I LOVE that they wrapped and labeled each Pupusa.... saves you some time instead of biting into them and being surprised lol.... ordered through Uber eats and delivery was fairly fast.... i even called before i placed my order with a few questions and customer service was nice.... Pupusas didn't have the slightly crispy texture i usually like on the outside (and it wasnt due to them being wrapped you could just tell they weren't cooked very long) but they were still really tasty ... the slaw had a nice kick... my fav was the jalapeño and cheese... overall i would give them a second try...

We have never visited the restaurant but used Door Dash a number of times to order and have our meals delivered. There pupusas are amazing! Our favorites include chicken, the bean n cheese, as well as the cheese n jalapeño. They are not large in size so you may need two to a person. They all come with a side red sauce that adds an extra great flavor!

My report on meal: The best papusa ever. Wasn't laden in grease. The Cortida served with it had just the right amount of spiciness to it. It was well seasoned and had no need for extra. The Ceviche Could've used a little more fish in it but the flavor was out of this world. I would definitely re-order these items again and I would recommend them to others!

The only place I go to get my pupusas! They're the best here and close to home. Been eating here for years! Sorry I don't have no photo because I went in on them as soon as I went home to eat! Next time lol

Love the pupusas and the service but order through another service not through Grubhub, unfortunately, it will not arrive. We tried twice in a week and food was delivered but the driver was nowhere to be found. I just wanted to highlight this because it's not fair they get a bad review for another app mistakes and we have been craving their puposas all week. Also the chicken sopu is exactly what you need when you are sick!

I ordered delivery from Pupusas Salvadorenas and ordered 3 different types of papusa's - the Pupusa de Queso, Pupusa de Frijol y Queso and the Crazy Pupusa and all of them were very delicious. None of these came with rice and beans and you must add that to the order if your doing delivery. The cortidas that they serve with with the pupusas was very fresh, crunch and delicious with some spicy kick to it. Glad I tried them out, now I have a place to order salvadorean food when I have a craving for it.

Went here the other night order 7 pupusa's revuelta and when I got home they where all beans!! Really upsetting! Don't understand how you can get that confused. They don't answer the phone and to top it off there stingy asf with the cabbage and sauce!

I order from Uber eats so I cannot speak on the customer service. So I ordered the chicken stew , Pupusas with cheese and one with pork and beans. I love both Pupusas I liked the cheese one over the pork one just personal preference but both were tasty but that chicken stew was my fav!!! Omg sooo flavorful hearty and thick good portion I ate on it for two nights. It had big portions of chicken and the broth as well. Perfect on this chilly night. Delivery was fast , food was still hot when it arrived I will be returning !!!

Great decent place for pupusas. They dont use lard in their beans, which is suitable for vegetarians. We typically get the queso y frijoles or queso. It's good, better than the other places I have tried so far. The downside is that sauce, it tastes straight up like hunts canned tomato sauce. That was disguisting lol. Another thing is that the cabbage salad is okay not too bad but decent.

I looove this place. Their platanos are sooooo amazing! Once or twice they didn't come out great but the other 20 times I've been here they're perfect. Their pupusas are pretty good too. Usually we just get loroco y queso and bean and cheese. No complaints. Sometimes the beans are a bit dry but when they're fresh fresh, they're delicious. Their curtido is pretty good. Their food in general isn't way over salted so I like that too.

I'm so happy I did because this place was delicious!! It's really become one of my favorite spots for lunch. The peoples are nice, the prices are soooo cheap, and it's never overly crowded. My all time favorite dish to order is the Mixed Seafood Soup and Cocktail Shrimp. The pupusas of course are also quite delicious, and they offer a number of different kinds, like Cheese, Loroco, Chicken, Spinach, Zuccini, etc...

Waited at least an hour after ordering 4 pupusas. The restaurant wasnt even busy. The service is rude, everytime we come to check our food we got "20 mins, oh ur next" ALSO THEY FORGOT OUR EFFIN ORDER!!!!!!!!!!! How ridiculous its faster to go to the street vendors in Oakland. Smh

Excellent vegan and gluten-free pupusas. The owner is very friendly, and explained the menu to us. You can customize any pupusa, and make them Vegan, by getting beans and vegetables. The pupusas do not have lard, and the beans are also vegetarian, made with canola oil. They also have a rice flour pupusa. Both kinds are gluten-free. Very friendly service, very friendly people, nice warm fresh delicious authentic food!!!

Great hole in the wall type of restaurant! Great food and nice people who run and work at the establishment. If you are looking for fancy, you will not find it here. If you are looking for great food than you found the right place!

Just ordered my first delivery from this restaurant. I'd never had Pupusas before! Awesomeness! I got 2 pollo and 2 revueltas (pork and beans). The dipping sauce was great and the veggies were a fun surprise, very tasty! I will be ordering from this restaurant again!
