The pupusas were ok. I had all vegetarian ones. The taste was bland. I also got a couple of different deserts. I wasn’t impressed. But I enjoyed watching them making pupusas.

Sunday morning the server Alicia got my order wrong 2 times. She just brought was she wanted. Food was so simple, not what I expected. Eggs came put uncooked and rice had something weird. The pupusa were very salty, my son vomited in the car.

Google
Overall, I was pleased with this place. Pupusas were very good. We tried almost one of each. The cheese is so flavorful. Sorry, forgot to take picture of the pupusas. Pan con pollo- was ok. The first one we got had the chicken cold, but then they brought a warm one. I personally don’t like to have the chicken in one piece. I prefer it shredded. That’s just a matter of preference I guess.

Google
Favorite Pupuseria!! I’m always trying different restaurants for that home taste, and this is definitely the spot! Their hot chocolate ❤️❤️❤️

J Rivera

Google
Extremely disappointed w this place. First of all, my order came half missing. Second, taste pretty plain. Third, look at the picture yourself. Bought some tamales, and it is basically made of corn and bones.. no meat at all. Ridiculous.

Google
Best in the DMV. The pupusas are fresh, the chicharrones are so tender that you don't need to cut with the knife, and the plátanos are fresh with just the right crispy around the edge. The pictures cannot do El Comalito justice. The prices are fair which make it worth the trip.

The restaurant was very busy on a Friday night around 8:00 p.m. The waiter was patient while we asked questions about various foods native to El Salvador. We ordered pasteles de carne y muchos pupusas. We also had horchata and tamarindo drinks. The food was freshly made so there was a bit of a wait for the pupusas. My boyfriend who likes horchata said it had a uniquely nutty taste, which he enjoyed. The tamarindo was a good mix of sour and sweet. I would recommend this place because the pupusas are inexpensive and my salvadoreño coworker said there were authentic!

Google
Food was tasty, authentic, and reasonably priced. The pupusas are definitely the best around. We waited a bit for a table then talked to someone about seating us. They seated us promptly after we inquired. I would recommend this to other people; get someone's attention and ask to be seated. Any time we needed anything, we had to get the waitresses attention. The fruit water was very good, I would recommend that too.

Yelp
I know, I know--I said I wouldn't come back, but El Comalito is like my toxic ex I can't stay away from. So, there I was again, back for dinner on a Thursday night. Thankfully, we were seated quickly, and our food arrived promptly. I stuck to my usual order: pupusas. As always, they were delicious. This time, I decided to try something new--the fried tamal de elote with a side of Salvadoran cream. It was really tasty but quite small, so not entirely worth it, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. Despite my complaints, I'll definitely keep coming back. Just maybe not on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays to avoid the rush. El Comalito, you've still got my heart (and my appetite)!

Yelp
El Comalito offers a delightful dining experience with their mouthwatering cheese pupusas that are a true treat for the taste buds. The rich flavors of the cheese combined with the perfectly cooked dough create a delicious harmony. Additionally, their horchata is a standout, striking the right balance between creaminess and flavor. A visit to El Comalito is a must for anyone seeking authentic and satisfying Salvadoran cuisine. provides a serene ambiance, allowing for quiet yet contemplative moments, while the subtle Spanish music in the background adds to the cultural charm.

Yelp
I've been a faithfully customer for el comalito for many years, but my last visit and two DoorDash deliveries has not been pleasant.. The quality has decreased and prices increased , I don't know if they have lost their best cook or what has happened, I took my brother and nephew for dinner and the nuegados we're stale and the pupusas tasteless.. please avoid this business if you wish to eat something good Eh sido cliente fiel por muchos años de el comalito, pero su calidad a bajado y sus precios incrementaron. Mis últimas tres compras fueron un desastre, eviten este lugar si gustan comer algo bueno, el comalito ya no es lo mejor,

Shamika G.

Yelp
When I walked in the restaurant, I wasn't greeted by anyone although there were servers and employees behind the counter. As I looked over the menu for about 6 minutes, I still wasn't greeted or asked if I needed help. Why did I stay and order? Because I was hungry and the food smelled good. I decided to order anyway. Once I walked closer to the counter, the guy that took my order was nice. I ordered the Carne Asada with refried beans to go. The flavor from the steak was so good and they gave me a lot! The seasoning was not too salty. The way they cooked the steak....not so much to rave about. It was chewy and slightly tough. I probably would get it again though because how flavorful it was lol

Rhina R.

Yelp
la comida es bien rica pero el servicio no es bueno, hoy fui con mi familia y queríamos la cuenta pero ellas se ponían aver el teléfono y se ponen a hablar entre ella peor servicio

Estefany A.

Yelp
Server was nice but the cooker mess up the order served pupusa that we didn't order. Food okay not great.

David S.

Yelp
I ordered pupusas, but I ensalada drink, and I plátanos, frijoles y crema and some empanadas for dessert. Pupusas were great, very soft too with cheese oozing out in places. Ensalada drink - while it is winter and fresh grout is harder to come by, I didn't like how they made it here, not sure if it was too watered down or what Plátanos were okay, again didn't seem fresh Empanadas - seemed to be pre-cooked and heated, Service - typical for this type of establishment. But they did mess up my pupusas order so I stayed to eat a lot later than everyone else. So why 4 stars.... Because I came only for the pupusas and they excelled at that.

Gabriela B.

Yelp
I've had this place on my list for a while and I'm so glad I finally made it in. I wanted to try the pupusas and horchata first, and it did not disappoint. The pupusas were made to order, so hot and fresh and delicious. The horchata was also pretty good, I think a little more cinnamon than creme which I'm good with. Definitely going to come back and try other things.

Veronica G.

Yelp
Unreal. Super worth the drive. The pupusas revueltas are incredible as was the fried fish

Amanda H.

Yelp
Great place, great food. The only reason I am giving it three stars is because it's a crazy wait time at most times I been there, and the make you wait in line on the wall. Sometimes the line reaches almost out the door. Something the food takes a while, and after the food the waiter takes their time getting the receipt to you. It's hard to get their attention. The food is so good, I recommend all the Pupusas, the ensalada de fruit (fruit drink) and my boyfriend loves the horchata. If you take out, the wait isn't as long as I expected but I guess it depends on what you order. Definitely a great place to get pupusas, also have a variety of other food that are not as expensive. The chicharron con yuca is the best, in my opinion.

Kristie J.

Yelp
The pupusas here are delicious. I haven't tried anything else but I just come and get the pupusas with la roca, beans and/or squash. I love how they toast them and you get them allllll melty and some crisp cheese on the edges. I think that their cortido was delicious and I have no complaints. This is a really inexpensive and filling meal. The service here was great, everyone was really friendly and this will be one of my new spots to come and get food.

Becky G.

Yelp
I love how the beans and cheese pupusas are not premixed together like most places! It makes a difference feels more authentic and fresh! Best pupusas in my opinion

Jaqueline M.

Yelp
The best Horchata and Pupusas. Also, my sister ordered a grill chicken it's not dry and very tasty as well. Always a our go to place.

Bob B.

Yelp
Love the pupusas is here. My favorite is the queso pupusas. Everything here tastes homemade and fresh. The last time I was here I tried the fajita mixta which comes with steak, chicken, rice, salad and beans for about $13. I also recommend getting the fruit salad, it looks like a orange colored drink with bits of cut up fruit inside. It's not too sweet and very refreshing on a hot day. The people are friendly but the service is kinda slow. The men's bathroom also needs to be cleaned more often.

Mike B.

Yelp
I've done my best to translate this review into Spanish : Un experiencia decepcionante cuando regresè A Pupuseria El Comalito Si, el precio is muy baja. Soy continuo tomar picaduras traigando a averiguar. Todo yo sabe, no quiero 2. Chicarones Y Queso. El sabor es confusado. Y la textura me moleste. Hay arenoso adentro del pupusa. 3. Frijoes Y Queso: La pupusa que pensè el mas seguro. Fue quemada. Muy quemada. No la misma a: " Besado por la fuego de la barbacoa con un char que mejora el sabor y recuerdo de un pollo caliente jugoso". No... quemada llanura. Te puedes ver mi dilema ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fairly disappointing in my return to Pupuseria El Comalito. Yes, the prices are still wonderfully low. Yes, the waiters are still nice, be forewarned there might be a language barrier. Luckily I'm able to speak a bit of Spanish. I got three pupusas: 1. Spinach and cheese 2. Chicharones and queso 3. Frijoles and queso 1. The spinach and cheese pupusa just tasted OFF. There was something a little funky about it. I'm not sure if they use frozen spinach... or what seasoning they put on it. It was one of those things where I kept on taking bites trying to figure what that flavor was. All I know was... I didn't like it. 2. The chicharones and queso. The flavor was a bit muddled... but it was the texture that really bothered me. It was a bit gritty inside. 3. The frijoles and queso: The pupusa that I thought would be the safest... well it was burnt ( to start off with). Like really burnt- not like: "Kissed by the gentle flame of the griddle leaving mild char that not only enhances flavor but is reminiscent of a hot juicy dog of the grill. No, it was plain burnt. But outside of that, there was just beans inside. And those frijoles refritos were of really low quality. Like, much worse than Old El Paso. Like if they were on the meat scale... probably like Grade F meat. So all of the pupusas were a wash. Their slaw is still not vinegary enough, and the sauce that they serve the slaw with (which is very tomato-y and water-y) is not flavorful enough to introduce anything bold to the game. The other thing I ordered with a 4. Tamale de pollo 4. Huge, flavorful, perfectly cooked, brimming with chicken, garbanzo beans, and spices. Served fresh in a banana leaf, steaming, and this thing is BIG. You know how a regular tamale is about the thickness of a broom. This is like a coke can. Ya know how people say "that's one hot tamale". That's one thick tamale! So you can see my dilemma here...

Yelp
The place is nice but the service sucks because they take too long to bring your food. If you go during the weekend the place is packed of people waiting for you to finish eating because they need the table. People are staring at you so you can finish fast because they need the table is ridiculous. The noise of the kids running around like in playground is crazy. I order 2 pupusas my uncle order 4 and it took them 50 minutes to Bring it to us. I am definitely going to Azucena next time or someplace else.

Timothy C.

Yelp
Living in Watsonville, CA for 5 years, I have become accustomed to enjoying restaurants where excellent food can be found, but where the guests and staff only speak 50% of the English language. This is one of those places. When I entered, no one greeted me, though it is a sit down restaurant. I think they thought I was lost. There was a rope barrier near the counter, so I got in line and waited for someone to take my order. After a few minutes of trying get some eye contact, someone behind the counter took my order and told me I could sit down. At this point, it was clear to me that I could have been the only white dude that had entered this restaurant that day, maybe even that week. The restaurant was 3/4ths filled with Hispanic families having a great time. But that just means alot of white dudes missed out on some legit pupusas! I had never heard of pupusas before. In fact, maybe these aren't even traditional pupusas - I don't know. What I had were 4-inch wide dough cakes filled with a ground pork and cheese mixture and then flattened and cooked on a griddle. The end product tasted kind of like a richer, smaller quesodilla. Very savory and tasty and hot, it was a great small dinner. It was served with a spicy coleslaw and either a cold, spicy tomato soup, or a lame hot sauce. I had no clue from the menu that those items were coming, so I tried them and didn't get a third of the way done with either. The pupusas were the clear star of the show. When I went to pay, I was told there was a $5 minimum for credit card orders (not posted anywhere, but usually a standard practice). The staff was kind enough to let me walk down to an ATM and withdraw some cash, but I had to pay $3 to do that, so I should have just ordered some more food. In summary, ordering over $5 worth of pupusas would a be a good buy, and I'll bet the rest of the menu is pretty solid.

Yelp
Most authentic Salvadoran food in Maryland!!!!! Could not have enough good things to say about this place. My favorites are the ensalada de fruta, pupussas de frijol con queso, and yeh empanadas de plátano. To die for, literally.

Rodrigo G.

Yelp
This is an authentic Salvadoran place - non of that tex mex stuff. Feels like you're back home in El Salvador. Prices are very reasonable. We got 5 pupusas, one horchata, one ensalada de fruta, and one pastel de carne for under 20 bucks. The Ensalada de fruta was the highlight for me but the pupusas were on point. Only thing is that the service can take a little long sometimes but that's just part of the authentic experience Enjoy!

Mariana A.

Yelp
The wait time is CRAZY! The place is kind of small Food: good Customer services: not bad

Julius L.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I gave 3 stars only because they gave decent service. And the atmosphere is enjoyable. Had I based it on food alone, plate presentation would b e 3 stars, taste would be a strong 2 stars. No flavor. Looks good, comes to the table hot. I think if they get their seasoning game together it would make them more appealing. Also they don't serve beer. The sauce for the pupusas had no texture, none. Came out like water. Should have a one thickness n a Lil texture. Not a bad experience just a bland one.

Jasmin L.

Yelp
Rude white hispanic employee. Ask me why I am transgender. Made me so uncomfortable questions about my gender while I was waiting for my order at the one in takoma park . He made me feel so embarrassed and when I told him to stop asking me personal questions and instead be a little more profesional he got angry and said thank you sir to me while I was leaving . I didn't respond since I would not lower myself to his level . Clearly this company needs to train their employees of lgbtq issues and hire more diversed employees . Because only Hispanics work at the site . I would not recommend this place to my fellow lgbtq community as they might have an unpleasant experience. The food was great and delicious . But the personal experience is disgusting. That employee should be fired . As he was making me personal and uncomfortable questions . But didn't give me my order right I was missing an item and I had to go back . This company or restaurant lacks training on lgbtq issues ...very disappointed

Peter J.

Yelp
I personally feel like they have the best pupusas around. I took a cousin of mine here for dinner and he said that these are the most authentic pupusas in the area that can compare to the ones in El Salvador. If it's coming from a guy that lives out there than that must mean that they are GREaT!! I usually do not go to any other place than here to get pupusas and if you were to try it you would understand why. I do not have a picture because I decided to inhale them, there so good that my mouth just wanted to eat them. This is my one place to go to. I TRULEY LOVE THIS PLACE

Alex B.

Yelp
The food is good. However, the wait time, even if you order beforehand is very long. Just for 2 pupusas, 30 minutes and then some? Too much.

Kevin L.

Yelp
I discovered this Pupuseria while working nearby. I haven't tried many items but what I have tried, I liked. I tend to avoid peak lunch hour times, even then I expect a wait. Many items seem to be hand made, requiring more time. In addition to the carry out and seated other customers, I'd say add a few minutes to your trip here. Food is hot and tasty, juices are flavorful. Didn't try the horchata yet but it looks good.

Sam C.

Yelp
Very delicious authentic Salvadorian food!! How do I know??? I'm Salvadorian.. Their pupusas are very much like the ones you could get in El Salvador I recommend trying las pupusas made from masa de arroz!!

Jose C.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday afternoon and it wasn't busy but it took them almost a whole hour to bring 5 pupusas to our table! The server didn't even bother to let us know why it was taking forever for the food to come! She was just talking with her coworkers at the corner of the restaurant! Really been a bad experience

M L.

Yelp
El comalito is my favorite pupusas place and it's definitely very popular. The space is small and could use a bigger space. The pupusas are very delicious better than dona azucena. I also like that they have different menu options. The service could be a lot faster and attentive though. Food overall: great.

Steven A.

Yelp
Not bad for the first time. Ordered the chicharron y queso (pork and cheese) and the queso con pollo (cheese and chicken) and they were on par with the better pupusa places in the DMV. I wouldn't quite put them as the best the way many others do, but they do carry their own weight as far as pupusas go. Cheesy, stuffed, and bursting with flavor. The only thing that suffered was the Horchata. Leaning on the bland side and didn't have the punch you'd expect from traditional salvadorean horchatas. Outside of that however, solid pupusa spot to satisfy your inner Guanaco. Buen provecho!

Cathy Q.

Yelp
This place has the WORST management I have ever seen with these brown eyes! La persona encargada de ser gerente de este lugar debe de ser despedido!! No sirve para nada es bien repugnante! I ordered 20 pupusas over the telephone -- I arrived at the location and low and behold they had sold them to someone else. The worst part was that there was no apology to me, they could care less...their manager needs to get fired. They don't know how to run a professional business, therefore --- they don't get my business!!!

Almighty C.

Yelp
Don't look good when I walked past. i thought it was a bowling ally. The food is good but bot the best. There are places with better food. The people are nice I guess.

Liza A.

Yelp
It is a nice place and the dining area is pretty big, so seating kids is very comfortable with high chairs. The food is good, i tried pupusas and soup and the flavor was good. The is waiters and waitresses are very nice and they are fast bringing the food out. I think ill be back soon, I still think the best pupusas belong to Azucar in silver Spring but if around takoma this is the place to visit for authentic Salvadoran food!!!

Michael D.

Yelp
An immersion into El Salvador. Virtually all patrons are Salvadorian, and few staff speak English. There are both rice and corn pupusas, which are served with a large side of salad (curtido). On weekends, they have chicken soup (sopa de gallina) which is quite good. Place is packed on Friday nights and weekends. Their horchata is very good, quite strong. Four stars because I think La Casita, which is nearby, has better pupusas and carne asada. As with many similar retaurants, you can call ahead to place an order, even if you are eating in. Useful if you don't want to wait around for your pupusas.

Gladys M.

Yelp
B E S T P U P U S A S in town! Made to perfection lol. Seriously best I have tasted. Service is great. Servers are friendly. Parking lot is huge. Their fruit drink is alright. Horchata is great. Prices are good. Definitely recommend this place. And to here to eat good.

Evelyn U.

Yelp
Their customer service is the worst. I have placed my orders over the phone before and had the worst experience. They made me wait for 1 hour. The last time I went, I placed my order and 20 mins later, when I got there they were still not ready. Im never going back.

Marcie G.

Yelp
This was a very disappointing visit. The restaurant was not busy but we waited for several minutes and seated ourselves and then had to ask for menus. All of the waitresses just stood around, watched us, and no one took our order until we asked. We weren't treated well even after we ordered our lunch. The service here is terrible!

Xiomara L.

Yelp
The food is pretty good and very cheap. However, most of the time I've gone it's extremely crowded and their table setup does not help. Pretty much have to squeeze in. They also take a long time with the pupusas, perhaps because so many people order them. Every time I go, my son orders pupusas but receives them until after everyone at the table has already finished eating. I usually have to give him some of my food while he waits for his.

Shola G.

Yelp
How are ya gonna have a restaurant with the phone not working? WTF ya don't even deserve not one star

Doug M.

Yelp
The ignore the customer restaurant didn't get to eat I think I was invisible when I went there No service at all that sucks I heard they have good food Now u will never know.

Becky F.

Yelp
Probably the best Papusa's in the area! Unlike other Salvadorean establishments, this one has plenty indoor seating and is really really clean! Plenty of parking is also available in the parking lot of the plaza. This is a great place to go for cheap eats. The papusa's are less than 2 bucks a piece. You can take a date and have an "ethnic" feast for less than 15$. I highy recommend the fried plantains con crema (4.95- enough for two people), the chicken papusa, as well as the frijol y queso papusa. All the papusa's are served with hot sauce and a type of Salvadorean cole-slaw. The food is available for dine in or take out. I HIGHLY recommend this if you are looking for something new. The best part is, it's completely unknown outside of the langley park area. :-)

Tony B.

Yelp
The food is great. It is a shame that they have a REALLY BAD customer service. I recommended you if you still want to get food from here to ask for carry out (and they still bad customer service on this) they need to get new employees except for the cook.

Glenda P.

Yelp
Their pupusas are okay but their service is the worst ever. I had placed an order over the phone and was told my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I gave them an extra 25 minutes to go pick up my order. I tell the guy at the cash register I'm here to pick up my order and he says oh they are not ready yet. I sat there for 43 minutes almost 1 hr and a half to get some pupusas. I asked the guy did you guys forget my order and he's like oh we are short of staff. Number one not my problem number two when was I gonna be told that. He has no customer service at all. Instead of me being upset he gets pissed and starts to catch his attitude. I honestly don't know what he does there because he has no skills.

Fatima J.

Yelp
Food is good and cheap. The place is somewhat small for the amount of business they get in the evenings. Also they allow a man to loiter by selling bootleg items to customers

Javier C.

Yelp
Service in this place sucks greatly, I was a frequent client until yesterday. They ignore you if you want to change anything in your plate. Don't go to this place they don't deserve your money.

Leslie M.

Yelp
Love this place they are consistent which makes me very happy the pupusas and soups are always on point and the rest of looks good too took one star away bc they don't take American Express but over all they have my word if mouth

Laura P.

Yelp
To simply put it: The best pupusas in the area, we tried their tamales, carne asada, rice pupusas (ayote & revueltas) with a side order of escabeche (cauliflower, onions, carrots, greenbeans & jalapeños in vinegar) and also their frescos (tamarindo, ensalada de fruta and marañon)

Sheryl S.

Yelp
The pupusas come in a choice of either corn or rice flour dough. I had never had rice pupusas, so I tried it. Hmmm. Sort of like a dog singing - more interesting than good. However the corn pupusa was quite good, and the accompanying slaw was too.

Kris M.

Yelp
Worst service ever.... I made my order over the phone and they told me 25mins.... I got the 30 mins after I placed my order and my order was not ready..... I waited 15 more and still nothing.... so I walked out...don't come here ..... just go straight to Doña Azucena

Rebeca L.

Yelp
Horrible horrible service! I called in to save time and found myself waiting there 50 minutes for pupusas. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because I thought the food was worth it. The worst part is that the guy at the register lied to me and said they weren't ready after 30 min of waiting and I saw him put in my order right after that. Glad they didn't get my money! And will never get it at that, I'd much rather make my own pupusas!
