My boyfriend and I make a trip up here from Raleigh NC because this our absolute favorite restaurant we have ever been to!!! The food is ALWAYS delicious and the staff has always been super welcoming and friendly, like visiting family. Come to Raleigh 😭😭❤️❤️

Google
I've visited here 3 or 4 times now - I live in the San Francisco area, so I'm just visiting friends in Falls Church and Woodbridge. Food is delicious and friendly service.

The waiters were very friendly and attentive the food was also amazingly delicious! It does take a long time to get your food however it is freshly made.

Wow, DELICIOUS! We were there with a table of eight, ages 6, 13, 15, 16, 20, 48, 50, & 55... and Everyone. Loved. Everything. We ordered Pescado Frito (fried tilapia), Carne Asada (grilled steak), Pechuga De Pollo Asada (grilled chicken), and Picadera La Familiar (sampler with steak, chicken, and sausage). Drinks included the tamarindo, which tasted freshly made and perfectly sweet, and horchata, which had a rich, deep, flavor, honestly the best I've tasted. Those with us from Salvador said all the flavors were totally authentic. Really everything was so good. The waiter was super sweet and very attentive. The prices were EXCELLENTÉ, extremely reasonable! The food took a while to make, but it's freshly prepared...Good things take time! I took a picture of all the kitchen staff, they were working hard! Highly recommend this place. Btw, seat yourself, you don't need to wait for anyone to point you to your seat.

I visited this place for the second time since I went yesterday and I liked their smoothies, this time I ordered chicken with slices (the worst chicken with slices I have ever eaten in my life) they gave me an almost empty plate, I went to complain and they took my plate away (they didn't change it) they only put more cabbage to make it look like a normal order but the plantain slices were the same cold and few, my stomach hurt and for this reason I would not buy that food again. I forgot to mention that I waited more than 43 minutes for that food.

Google
Really lovely and cozy Latino restaurant! Staffs were so nice - we arrived a little late because of work, but they still let us dine in. We ordered the seafood soup, and it was so flavorful. As an Asian, I wished it came with rice, not tortillas. But their tortillas were also good! We tried 4 different type of pupusas, and what surprised us was the salsa and pickles came with them. Such a brilliant match! Only reason I gave 4 stars was because the seafood used in the soup were mostly frozen, and thus affected the texture. I understand for their extremely reasonable price, it is the best they can do. So, no complaints. We will definitely visit again!

Google
We have a chorizo baleada and tacos dorados which were pretty good, the tacos dorados where made with quesillo which gave an awesome flavor, they were one the best tacos dorados I had ever eaten, nothing special about the baleada besides the size, it was huge and fairly price. This restaurant has beautiful decorations, nice vibe to it, this would make a great bar but I don't think they sell alcohol here which makes it perfect for families, I'm exited to try more food items from here Disclaimer: First time here, the 5 stars review is a place holder for now because I like to eat multiple times in a place in order to fairly review it when they have an extensive menu and I haven't eaten their signature dishes.

Google
Very friendly staff, especially the teenage server. He was running the register, cleaning tables, taking orders, and serving delicious food by himself. Very good food, he gave good recommendations. Very affordable too

Yelp
Been here numerous times and always forget how great it is. The food especially the pupusas are always great and reminds me of El Salvador. The service was quick and friendly regardless of how busy it was. The restaurant itself was clean and very welcoming. They do have an outdoor patio to eat at as well. Never had an issue while eating here and will always come back when I'm in the mood for pupusas con loroco.

Yelp
Best pupusas l've ever had! They're super cheesy and the dough is soft. The cabbage slaw is good too. I wish they'd provide the salsa that comes with chips instead of the tomato soup-like consistency they serve with the pupusas. Overall, it's not a bad spot for a quick lunch on the go. I might try other dishes on the menu and report back.

Yelp
If you want authentic Salvadorian pupusas and food, this is the place to go. They have a big menu with lots of options and the most choices of pupusas I've ever seen. I ordered a classic pupusa revuelta with pork, cheese, and beans. My friend got an horchata which had the perfect amount of sweetness. For my main dish I ordered the cow tongue stew which was so juicy and flavourful. The food is made to order and even though it took a bit to come out it's definitely worth it. Everything was fresh and hot. The servers are bilingual so don't be afraid to try this place out! Also wanted to note that their restrooms were very clean and their booths were comfortable.

Yelp
Written on 7/21/24, experienced on 6/15/24 Pupuseria La Familiar, I have passed this place many times, but today, my wife is craving pupusas. This place offers a number of different menu items at reasonable prices.   The question is, does it taste like mom's cooking or better? (To Be Answered Later) This place picked up more business not long after we arrived.   English and Spanish can be spoken here, but Spanish is the dominant language within these walls. I enjoyed the photos on the wall and I took some photos of  them; as well, as the layout of the restaurant.  The rest rooms were in the back of the house and I checked the men's room out.  I noticed while washing my hands, the mirror is a upgraded mirror where you can ajust the lighting of the mirror. It came in handy too. The toilet wasn't  nasty, but it definitely had some use. It didn't  stink in the men's bathroom and this is a big plus. The option of paper towels or use the hand dry is offered. Aside from that, the bathroom all it was cracked up to be. Since my Spanish isn't as strong as my wife's, so she placed the order in Spanish.  She ordered two plátanos con frijoles aka Plantains with beans. She also ordered one item which I don't remember the name of. Nevertheless, I ordered two orders of pupusas con queso (pupusas with cheese) to the cashier who seemed to be in his own world. This was later confirmed when I saw something was missing from my wife's  order.  Luckily, my wife was able to get this mistake corrected before we left the restaurant.   Unfortunately, and extra order was charged to my credit card. I did not catch this, because I thought this is what my wide ordered. It is what it is, but the guy obviously wasn't listening to my wife's order. The Food: "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope". Martin Luther King Jr. This quote is a rallying cry for hope in the face of obstacles. Well this obstacle is one I will not repeat again. The pupusas i had lacked flavor and taste.   The side of beans barely tasted better than the pupusas con queso. I was able to finish on order, but the other order ended up in the trash. My wife found her food to be beyond asqueroso (disgusting). Her items ended up in the trash as well.  I wouldn't be surprised if the raccoons avoid eating this food as well.   This is not the food your mother made and it holds nothing over the food I have had at other places. Should there ever be a next time, I hope the flavors are much more noticeable.

Yelp
Was exactly what what I was expecting and had great flavor. My wife gets cravings for this place.

Yelp
Friendly service and delicious food!!! TVs were playing music videos which was fun. Was so excited to eat that I forgot to take pictures before we began to dig in and enjoy! The Yucca was perfectly crisp and the papusas and burrito were full of flavor!
google avatar

Ramya R.

Yelp
We tried this restaurant while craving for some fried plantains and they didn't disappoint at all. Loved their fried plantains and fried tamales. Prices are pocket friendly, good service and clean restaurant. These are the best things about this place for me. Now about the papusas,I personally didn't like them and probably it's their cheese that didn't work for me.The slaw they serve along with it was refreshing.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good the food is amazing and the waiters are nice and quick you can buy many different types of Mexican food and snacks would recommend

Yelp
They serve a variety of delicious pupusas. They are served hot off the griddle, lightly browned with yummy cheese. They give you a good amount of cabbage salad, or their style of coleslaw and red tomato sauce to pour on top of the pupusas. They serve tamales as well cooked in the corn husk and cooked in banana leaf I have had the beef stew. When I went there recently, there was a sign on the door that mentioned they had a beef stew in tomato sauce. I ordered that, however it lacked good flavor and needed better seasoning. The sauce was not thick and sort of runny and wet, not a thickened tomato sauce. It was simple beef chunks, potato, carrots and sauce but needed more flavor and seasonings. The desserts are really good. The flan and cheese (?) cakes are really good. The guy told me it was a cheese cake, but it reminded me of bread pudding. There were raisins and touches of cinnamon. Very dense and delicious. I am not sure if it was banana bread, or a cake made with yucca and sweetened or if it was cheese cake, I really wonder what sort of cheese it was. I tried to ask for clarification, but the lady helping said it was sweet. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Kate R.

Yelp
The worst pupusas I've ever had. I'm convinced that people leaving reviews saying they like them are employees, family or paid. Felt super sick for hours after eating here. This review is based solely on those as we didn't try anything else. One star because the service was friendly.

Yelp
Solid food very delicious. Ordered the picador familiar which comes with salad, rice, and sample meats of care asada, chicken, and Salvadorian sausage. I also had a side order of chicharrones (my favorite) and a be and cheese pupusa (frijoles y queso). Great flavors. Folks are friendly although getting food is a little slow. Seems they were busy with takeout orders. Be prepared to wait a bit for food. The ambiance is casual. Overall great flavors. This restaurant is busy so the food is very good.

Yelp
ZERO - food poisoning. My partner ate takeout from Pupuseria La Familiar in Falls Church, VA yesterday. He ate it around 8:30pm yesterday and began vomiting and going to the bathroom repeatedly about 3 hours later. He is not able to eat solid foods. Has a fever, elevated heart rate, and chills. The last time he vomited was around 3pm today and he can't eat anything. I just called the restaurant to let them know and asked if any other cases have been reported and they hung up on me. I want to know if there is a pattern and they do not even have the consideration to answer 1 question.

Yelp
Delicious food and good portions according to the price, authentic pupusas it's clear they got the priceless grandma recipe, friendly stuff

Freddy C.

Yelp
Comida esta deliciosa pero den mas curtido y salsa. No Sean tacaños. Ni que estuviera tan caro el repollo

Alvaro S.

Yelp
Las chicas que trabajan ahí son muy amistosas y dan una buena atención a el cliente. pero hay un hombre con lentes que solo llega a tirara las cosas y es muy repugnante, aparte de eso la comida y la atención está bien.

Yelp
Yum yum yum! The is place has delicious food! The service is delightful and the prices are a screaming deal! The baleadas are gigantic and flavorful. Everything is made to order and it's fantastic. The servers are super friendly and helpful. They use fresh ingredients and yummy. Their fruit drinks are sweet and tasty. I haven't had their desserts yet. I'll just keep going and trying more and more of their delicious foods! Their tortilla chips are even fried on the spot! This place is wonderful! Nom nom nom!
google avatar

Mischa J.

Yelp
A nice little place to have a pupusa, with a chilate and a cebada (both El Salvadoran drinks)... and much more! This place also has a nice modern look to it, plus the prices were decent and the staff were nice as well.

Manuel B.

Yelp
Great food from pupusas to baliadas and much more. The food taste great. The pricess are reasonable.

Yelp
To the owners/management: PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE YOUR RECIPES/STAFF/ADMINISTRATION. I loveeeee this place. Their pupusas have a unique tasting cheese that reminds me of the cheese in El Salvador. They don't premix chicharrón with the cheese - which I LOVE. Most other restaurants premix. Their baleadas are soooo good, too. And they're served with delicious pickled onions. Amazing. Good service. I came yesterday for the first time, and today again! Lol

Yelp
Oh man, what a great place. We've been to pupuseria la familiar a couple of times now and absolutely love it. The food is legit and priced very well. We've tried just about everything and haven't had a bad dish yet. We love the pupusas, tamales and sopas specially. It gets packed but there's plenty of parking and the food is absolutely bomb. Great drinks as well!
google avatar

Jose L.

Yelp
Excellent and tasty pupusitas! It's one of the best. In the area, the parking lot is available, and I definitely recommend it.

Kevin M.

Yelp
I could eat their tacos and pupusas every day of the week. The tacos were much bigger than I expected. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Justine L.

Yelp
So happy that this pupuseria finally opened up on this side of town. Been patiently awaiting their grand opening since the signage went up. The place is nicely decorated, spacious and offers plenty of indoor/outdoor seating. We were kindly greeted by Henry who explained to us their specialty items. They have the classic pupusa offerings (bean and cheese, loroco, revueltas) and some interesting takes like the anchovy pupupsa. Since I'm a vegetarian,I had the platanos y crema (deep fried plantains with red refried beans), bean and cheese pupusa, and a bunch of curtido (El Salvadoran cabbage salad coleslaw). We didn't leave with any leftovers. My boyfriend had the shrimp and cheese pupusa and wanted to get another. He'll be back to try the fish soups and some of the other meat offerings. Will be supporting this Falls Church-based Pupuseria, especially since I live within walking distance. Stop by - you won't be disappointed.

Frank F.

Yelp
Pretty good pupusas, not many good choices for pupusas in the area this is my first pick, not sure what type of cheese they use for their pupusas but it gets mixed reviews from people i know
google avatar

Jenni R.

Yelp
This place is amazing! My husband and I stopped by for a take out. The place is fairly good. The food is so delicious and fresh. I couldn't wait till we get home. The smell of the food is so good I had to take few bites before I get home. The staff is friendly. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Lily H.

Yelp
We tried this place with friends for take out, and though the ordering was a struggle (understanding), the pupusas are well worth it. Love that these pupusas are more stuffed/thicker than other local places we've been to. We tried probably 6 different varieties and all were good. Flan and plantains were good too. -1 star for the guy who rang me up, heard me incorrectly on an order, but then after correcting it, didn't bother to refund me the difference until I asked. Make sure you check the bill!

Lauren J.

Yelp
This place is soooo good. Great pupuserias and tacos - haven't tried anything else on the menu but I wouldn't doubt that all of their food is great. Employees were all very friendly and kept their line moving when it was their lunch rush. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
We've taken out Pupusas and they have always been delicious. We dined in the other day and while the food was still tasty, they have such a large takeout business that our order went into the queue and we ended up sitting around for 30-45 minutes waiting to be served. Still highly recommend but probably best to stick with take out.

Evelyn L.

Yelp
The only way to get food delivered from here is if you order from door dash. Food was pretty good, nuegados and empanadas de leche were amazing. Pupusas were really good, but I wish they would let one know when ordering atol de elote or piña which one we were getting. Never had the piña before but it was wayyy too sweet for me. Otherwise, food good.
google avatar

Brandy C.

Yelp
My co worker and I went after work and the papusas were great. The sauce for them is a little spicy but not too much. We loved the rice but it needed to be cooked a little longer. The enchiladas reminded my friend of the ones she gets in Mexico. The mango with tajin lime salt and this lemon juice were amazing. Everyone at work asked me where I got it. The chicken was great. The steak a little fatty but good flavor. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
Everything about this place was delightful. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and able to choose our own seating. They have a nice outdoor patio area, which is where we chose to sit. The service was attentive and explained a few things we had questions about on the menu. We tried a burrito, plantains (perfectly caramelized), a pupusa (yum) and enchiladas. All of it was perfect! Also, the prices are incredibly reasonable. I already can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
Stopped in for our take-out pupusa fix and it did not disappoint! A few revueltas pupusas and an amazingly good steak pupusa. Also tried a chicken sandwich on a whim (pan con gallina especial) and it was really good. It's a Salvadoran-style sandwich I had not heard of or tried before. Strawberry liquado also good. A little cinnamon or spice in there?? A unique but good taste. Super friendly service and with the big Salvadoran families eating there, seems like the real deal. Will be back! 4 stars only because, we'll, it's pupusas. Nothing to complain about.
google avatar

Felix T.

Yelp
DELICOUS FOOD!!! Contemporary look with an immaculate authentic vibe & homey good feels. The service was quick & easy. The place is very clean & conveniently located with its own parking lot. The quality & taste of the food & drinks is very authentic & delicious. I highly recommend if you love Salvi food.
google avatar

Ilene M.

Yelp
We were very pleased with the quality of ingredients and their preparation--both very important. I had 3 different types of pupusas and loved them all. My husband had a delicious beef stew. Definitely recommend it.

Cindy F.

Yelp
Pupusas were delicious. Worth going. They have so many options to choose from and the food is on point I've been multiple times and it's always been the same consistency every time. 10/10 definitely recommend !!!
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Legit ALERT! This place has it all and is so authentic I feel there are a few grandmas back in the kitchen knocking out some serious food. I was with a Salvadoran friend and we were there for a celebration. I was also coming off a 26 hr fast which made everything all the better. We had enchiladas (pictured), the tamal with beans (pictured), some pupusas (the Loca one is indeed kinda crazy), costillas de res (very yummy char and fat) and dessert. Budìn is the best banana bread you may ever have. Go check them out. They've got it all!!
google avatar

Delmy R.

Yelp
This place has great pupusas. La revuelta(pork and cheese Or pork, cheese, and beans are great as well as their cheese. The masa is always fresh, and with just enough grease to the outside to keep it perfectly moist.

Mariane D.

Yelp
Pleasant wait staff, lots of parking, very good pupusas, curtido and red sauce, reasonable prices for entrees. We will be back!

Surya J.

Yelp
Busy place with lots of families. The service is great. They have good grill platters with loads of meat. Prices are reasonable. Try their smoothies or the fruit drinks. Delicious food and good ambience.

Maura V.

Yelp
Tried it after someone recommended it to me for lunch. It has great food, just wish the parking situation was better.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Love the good food and service. Wendy was such a gracious host and waitress. been here once a week. try their coffee, they roast their beans before they make the coffee and the flavor is buttery and delicious. Peace
google avatar

Hung T.

Yelp
This place has Pupusas for days. Arguably hands the best pupusas in the area. So many styles to choose from. On Sundays they offer Sopa De Gallia. A nice heaping piece of chicken with a hearty bowl of soup. Can't beat it. I highly recommend this place for lunch of dinner. The only thing that I dislike was the use of plastic utensils. I had a hard time cutting. Other than that....gooooooood eatin'!

Trash T.

Yelp
I got 2 pupusas locas, the plátanos with sour cream and beans, and a banana smoothie. Everything tasted amazing and the service was excellent. I will visit this establishment regularly.

Katia C.

Yelp
The waiters were really nice and got everything right also the food and drinks were delicious!

Vicente P.

Yelp
google avatar

Diane A.

Yelp
Ordered a variety of items to try out the menu. The platanos were delish, as was the taquito appetizer with chicken. The main sampler familiar was a nice collection of meats with rice and salad, and of course, the pupusas with the cabbage and sauce stole the show. (When you have to wait an extra minute of two for the hand made pupusas, you know it's gonna be good...) Then we dove into the flan. This was a total impulse purchase after ordering the array of stuff--O. M. G. --delicioso! I think the flan may become my new craving.... It's TDF. (To die for.) We've found our new go-to pupuseria on this side of town!

Ankit S.

Yelp
The cheese on everything we ordered was spoiled and they didn't seem to care. Just claimed it was "Salvadoran" cheese. I know the difference.
google avatar

Juan U.

Yelp
New a great place to try Central American food and drinks. Great menu to choose from as well. I had the pupusas and sandwich de gallina

Mike W.

Yelp
Excellent pupusa's and burrito. Friendly staff! Very reasonably priced also! Would recommend.
