"This Salvadoran pupuseria has three locations (Wheaton, Falls Church, New Carrollton), and is one of the region’s cheapest options for masa stuffed with cheese and other ingredients. There are traditional pupusas, like revuelta, as well as offbeat options like a ham and cheese pupusa. The spot also has a huge menu of other affordable options, from soups to grilled platters." - Tierney Plumb, Tim Ebner

I’ve been here twice after they closed down La Familiar in College park. The first time around it was okay, there was a waitress that would ask how everything was and run away before I even say anything but not bad over all. However the second time back, the service was extremely slow and it wasn’t even busy, I had 4 different people “served” me. Every time someone would come up the table it was someone different. They did forget my food and judging by the other reviews this is something that happens very often in there. After I finally got my food no one came back to ask me how it was. Needles to say the food was dry, the steak was hard and chewy. Won’t be back, I miss La Familiar in College park, the food was always the best there and quick service.

The guy who took my order was quick and efficient. There was a small problem with the order and he fixed it right away. The pupusas were delicious and very tasty. Will be back soon!

I love the pupusas revueltas made from rice flour. This is my favorite place to get them. Very authentic! I also had the Yuca frita con chicharron and it was very good and fresh. I don't mind taking a long drive to eat here.

This place really makes you feel welcomed and has so much nostalgia. You pick your own table and menus are brought over immediately. All the drinks not bottled are freshly made. As well as their mini bakery section, charamusca (sorbet in mini bags) and fruit cups are also fresh. The pupusas are always filled and stuffed with so much flavors. The beef ribs I got were delicious and fresh of the grill. I love their service and while the food does take a while, it's worth the wait because they're literally making everything from scratch.

I only come for the papusas! When I found this restaurant I came almost daily for lunch for the papusas. They are flavorful and filling, I've only had a bad batch once out of the 10+ times I've ordered. Haven't tried anything else, as this is only a quick lunch stop close to work for me.

So, I’ve been grappling with this review for the last 10 minutes, and I just decided that this is the absolute way to go because someone needs to know This review has nothing negative to say about the food. My Pupusas were hot, delicious and tasty per usual. Customer service, however a complete sour taste in my mouth I’ve been going to this chain of Pupusas for the last 15 years. My favorite was the college Park location because The staff was so friendly. I cannot say the same about this one. This is my fourth time coming to this location and out of the four times I have come three times I have received the same negative customer service. Now to give a slight background, I am a Latino, with plenty of melanin and braids; every time I come in here I am looked at by the staff (waitresses) in a wierd manner or not attended to at all (until I open my mouth n speak Spanish). It always starts off with the awkward situation of whether they should speak English or Spanish to me. Sure. Fine we’ll chalk it up to the basic ignorance of not knowing that Latinos come I all different shaped colors and sizes . But I cannot seem to fathom for the life of me, the feeling of being ignored by the staff Most of the times that I have come to this particular location! No, I for sure don’t think that I look like a clown nor have three heads on my shoulders to be looked at differently. When you know, you know. And those who don’t know haven’t really experienced it. Folks That didn’t look like me were attended to. I was to sit there and wait (when I finally was attended to it was basically “what do you want”) Not even a friendly gesture of how was the food was offered, nothing. Ok, So I continued with my delicious plate. Once I finished, it took a waitress, Which was not my waitress, a moment to come ask me if I would like my plates taken away. I abruptly said yes please send me my tab. Overall, I will not come to this location again. I have given numerous chances to this location and I have not been treated a fair customer service that I would say fellow customers that did not look like Me were treated to. It’s a shame that the college park location closed down. Those folks were amazing. But, as of now, I am seriously questioning, (arguably the best Pupusas in town) if prejudice and judgmental ignorance that I endured, are worth it. Once was a mistake, the second time you start questioning. The third time you have to say come on now…. Management I beg of you to please do better **Insert sad emoji**

Called in ordered. Had to wait 40 additional minutes after pickup time for mid pupusas. Don’t waste your time or money

I have been twice. I am always helped very quickly by this one long haired gentleman. The food is always good and he makes sure that my order is correct, I don't eat cheese as it me sick so it is nice when a place takes it seriously. Also I got suggested to have Kolashanpan, a soda of El Salvador and I enjoyed it very much. The good food and the good customer service will keep me returning!

Yelp
I'm surprised I'm the first to write a review for this place. I feel honored La familiar opened up in winter of 2021 in New Carrollton. I love coming every weekend and I hope after this review more people will start coming!!!

Yelp
I usually order from the Beltsville location but I accidentally chose this one on DoorDash. Biggest mistake ever. All the pupusas and foods we ordered with cheese tasted expired and revolting. Even my bf who is a fan of some types of stinky cheese said this was spoiled cheese.
