Pure Project Balboa Park

Opened on July 4th for a shorter period, happy 249th USA! I had the Diamond Dust IPA, never had it before, a smooth lager taste. My wife had a cabernet. We also ordered 3 empanadas, so flavorful and delicious, reminds me of the first time I had a real empanada in Costa Rico.

Great spot with an awesome variety of beer styles—something for everyone, whether you’re into IPAs, fruity beers, or darker malty brews. The vibe is super chill, perfect for hanging out with friends or just unwinding solo. Shoutout to Steven behind the bar, friendly and welcoming. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to when I’m around the Balboa park area.

just wanted to say THANK YOU! On behalf of the entire snook’s wedding party. The wedding celebration was stunning and so much fun. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The place itself is beautiful, clean, and welcoming. Every single staff member helped out and were so kind! They helped make this special day even more special. We just want to express our gratitude and let others know that Pure Project is an absolutely amazing place to host an event! 10/10 recommend!

Pure Project Balboa Park is such a gem right next to the park and zoo in San Diego. has a cool vibe and perfect for hanging out. craft beers are fresh and flavorful. Ted and Erika were awesome, going out of their way to make sure we had a great time with recommendations and tastings. It was so random to find out Ted and my dad hail from the same super small town in Arizona, which turned a fun stop into an unforgettable connection. Definitely coming back when back in town.

Great choice if you are looking to grab a beer and sit outside. Their outdoor patio area is nicely done with many different seating options. The beer menu is IPA heavy, but there are still other options if IPAs aren't your favorite. They also offer beer slushies!

This place is the BEST! Friendliest staff especially Erica, Steven, Molly and Denise, always so helpful and know their stuff! All 5 of their locations are super dog friendly, and they have decks of cards and a bunch of other games you can play while you’re here. They’re known for having the best hazy IPA’s which are my fave, but they also have tons of their own beers, homemade seltzers and even wine and a frozé slushie!

Nice chill spot with great outdoor seating right next to Balboa Park. The bartender Denise was super friendly and helped us decide on good drink options. We went with the cherry limeade for a light pre-zoo drink - it was perfect. Definitely recommend.

Came here because we had errands to run nearby. This is the PERFECT neighborhood joint. Great beer, tasty food, plenty of seating inside and out. We got three of the empanadas they have as food. The clear winner was the sweet corn and basil. Highly recommend Also had a beer or two. Solid. The service was fantastic and fast Lots of seating inside and outside and they even offer games for you and the table to play. The only bummer is the parking but you can blame SD for that one. Recommend for anyone in the neighborhood!

I hosted a last minute work event on the patio at this location and from contacting the venue to book to closing out the tab - the process was easy. Pure Project provides flexible options depending on your desire for level of their involvement. We opted for a reserved space and an open bar tab. The patio space located off the side of the building was perfect for our group of 40, it was easy for people to flow in and out to the bar. Parking is abundant in this area which helped with our large group. Pure Project has a lot of drink options so there was something for everyone. From their core beers, to newer hard seltzers and ciders and wine options. While we catered our own food for the event, Pure project also has empanadas from empanadas kitchen that are delicious. Randyn and Ted were a 20 out of 10. They were friendly, super helpful and attentive to our needs from start to finish. Thank you so much to the guys and Pure Project for making our celebration one to remember!

This is a cool brewery with a chill vibe. Right away we were greeted and welcomed. We ordered beers and mango slushies and both drinks were delicious. I had the Belgian Gold and wifey got the slushie. We played Jenga and listened to the awesome rock music playlist on a breezy Friday afternoon. We'll definitely be back, and we want to try to visit the new North Park location also.

Tried this place for the first time & was very impressed! The staff was super nice & the drinks were good! My favorites were the mango tango (frozen slushie) & the tropical mist (citrus blonde). The ambiance was pretty chill & they even have some board games. Overall a nice place to chill & meet up with friends.

Stopped by on a Saturday around 5pm for a beer flight and empanada trio! Creative and fun beer names and great tasting beers. My bf picked out 2 IPAs, 1 hazy IPA (something about otters), and I tried 2 sour beers (omgoodness they were so strong). We got one ham and cheese, one beef, and one chicken empanada, and while they were all good, the ham and cheese was the winner in my opinion! Lots of seating indoors, a big patio with blankets and space heaters, and multiple bathrooms. Thank you emily for great customer service!

A good local brewery with a pretty diverse selection of beers. And very friendly employees. Stopped in here a few times when we were in town. Tried several of their beers and were very pleased with our choices each time. Many of their brews have fresh, local fruit blends, and those were delicious (strawberry, especially). Their citrus blonde was excellent, also. Comfy seating inside and out on the patio. Couches, tables, overstuffed chairs. Very welcoming. Lots of space. Dog friendly on the patio, so bring along your pooch! A great spot to stop, gather with friends, have a beer, chit chat and relax.

This is one of my favorite brewery moments of my California trip. We sat at the bar and the bartender was absolutely so amazing and welcoming. The space is pretty big with a long bar. We came late at night so it was empty besides us and another couple. This is my favorite brewery in San Diego. They have so many great beers! Beers I tried: Rain: Like a pilsner. Kernza Lager: Bite at the end from the motueka. The Serpent's Head: Mellow West Coast. Prismatic Charm: OMG this is heaven. Biting into a banana with a mix of dragon fruit. A little carbonation. My favorite beer of the night. Madeline w/ Black Currants: Tart and funky. Great black currant flavor. Diamond Dust: After taste is bitter. Up front is smooth and sweet. We Are the Mirage: Smooth and bitter. This is a brewery everyone needs to visit when in California!

We absolutely loved stopping into Pure Project near Balboa Park. The people were extremely friendly and helpful here. The beers were all fabulous, one better than the one before it and so on. Loads of light hazy beers and enough dark sweet luscious beers to satisfy us all. Their merchandise is lovely, and the pride t-shirt I ordered is so soft - thank you! Their patio is a deeply relaxing dog-friendly seating area and we are grateful for that. I can't wait to visit San Diego next year and pop back in to this brewery. Oh, we found street parking and a little parking lot across the street was available as well (mid-week).

This watering hole located near Balboa Park is trendy, has great beer, and is an overall great time. The bartenders were helpful, offering tastings and suggestions. The beer list had something for everyone... assuming you enjoy beer Some tips: Get one of the flights so that you can taste a few different beers. If you go with others and everyone gets flights with different beers you can virtually try them all. The patio is a lot of fun, and San Diego has some of the best weather. Take advantage of it! There are also some complimentary board games to choose from Cheers!!

Walk on over after enjoying a day at Balboa Park. Not easy to park, but a short distance from plentiful parking on the west side of the park (except weekends). Try a sampler made up of your choice from a large array of Pure Project local beers. There may be a line, but it moves quickly and staff is friendly and helpful in discerning your tastes. Give it a try. Hang out and laugh with friends. Play a few games or meet new people. Have fun!

This is my favorite brewery, I love coming here! When I'm out with friends, pure project has to be the first place we go to. The beer is so good. They also have non alcoholic drink options if you don't drink beer. My go to drinks when I go is the pale ales or the hard kombuchas. But I love trying new beers that came out. My favorite time of the year is when it's strawberry season and they come out with drinks that is brewed with strawberries, it's so good! If you haven't gone, you should go and try it! The service and the employees that work there are incredibly nice and helpful. They definitely take great care of you and make sure you like your drinks. The ambiance is honestly my favorite which is another reason why I keep going and why it's my favorite. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have board games in case you want to play with your friends. They have outdoor heaters and blankets in case you get cold and they have these really cute egg chairs that I love sitting in. I highly recommend this brewery!

A wonderful place with lots of creative collaborations using, wine, spirits and beer styles ready for cold take home or store in your beer collection. My favorite is Euphorik... and Pure is coming out with their own wine?! Super rad place for watching the game as we watched the Dodgers get to the playoffs and the bartender handed out free empanadas!! I love coming to for play games like Battleship, Exploding Kittens, Candyland and Operation to name a few as they have many. I love how cute this place is. Great for groups, a date and a good place to escape to. In the walking distance to Balboa Park.

Very classy location and probably the cleanest beer you'll find in San Diego.. Had a discussion with two of my beer, drinking buddies, and two of them came to the same conclusion that this was the better brewery

Denise is great! She and Erica have welcoming personalities! She was super sweet and helpful when picking out beers...as this was our first time here! The location is beautiful and we loved sitting on the outside area!

Hubby and I stopped here on our brewery tour of San Diego - we ended up splitting a flight of five beers - Lavender Daze, Milagro, We are the Mirage, Prismatic Charm and Madeline with black currants. While this was likely one of the most expensive flights we've ever bought (thought it'd be more economical to get a flight but nope they still charge a la beer), it was one of the most diverse and tasty. The prismatic dragon fruit and banana was a vibrant pink and so banana forward - wouldn't want a full pour of this but it was super unique! The murky IPA and oak aged saison were both super tasty. The taproom itself is on the corner and occupies the first floor of a residential building (I'm assuming), so it's not its own building. The interior has a nice aesthetic and they had some really fun swag - would've gotten a baseball cap if it were a little cheaper than $30. Overall one of the top breweries we visited during our long weekend trip.

While the beer was awesome (stouts are top tier), what compelled me to leave a review was the exceptional service. The beertenders were very friendly, informative, and passionate about their beers. I didn't feel rushed or judged. Wish all beertenders were this cool. I would definitely come back the next time I visit Balboa Park.

Today is my third time being here in the last six months, and I've been happy every single time! The service alone has always been stellar. They know what is on the menu and are so conversational. They work behind the bar though so you can easily go sit down at a table or outside and not have to worry about anyone talking to you. The drink options are good and I feel like they change regularly enough. They have a flight deal (5 for the price of 4) and we ended up getting two flights today because the options were all so new and exciting.

I usually can't find anything I enjoy at breweries, but Pure Project had (smoothie) beer of all time! We were walking around Balboa Park and had some time to kill before it was happy hour. Decided to come here to grab some beers. I asked to try the No Trouble in Paradise and was immediately hooked. It tasted like juice! But juice that got you tipsy :) We came right at opening so it was completely empty. They don't have food here, so we quickly went down the street for a sandwich and brought it back. The bartender was also super nice.

GREAT beer, GREAT staff, and conveniently located near Balboa Park in Bankers Hill. They have lots of beer options from a Pilsner to a West Coast IPA to a Murky (hazy) IPA to Hard Kombucha to a Barrel Aged Stout to a Smoothie Sour or a Slushy. The slushy we had was the Orange Dream Street. Think creamsicle with a twist. We also sampled a few other beers including all of the IPAs and the Smoothie Sour. All were delicious, well balanced, and finished well. Honestly, they went down easy. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and will help you find a beer that you'll truly enjoy. The atmosphere is super chill. They have also have indoor and outdoor seating. TO-GO: They had a cooler with quite a few options for beer to go. SWAG: They have a lot of options: metal tackers, shirts, hats, stickers, etc. DOGS: definitely welcome! There were quite a few dogs. Who doesn't love a brewery with dogs? PARKING: Street parking. If you're lucky, you'll find an unmetered spot but you shouldn't have a problem finding a spout, you may need to walk a block or two.

Walked in there today for the first time. There was one person ahead of me and the two women working chatted him up for what seemed like forever. After he left they continued to talk to each other until somebody came to reorder. They again talked that customer up, I finally got tired and left.

I prefer this location to the North Park one. It's a lot more spacious and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Randon and Michael were both friendly and very attentive bartenders. Pure is definitely one of my favorite breweries and I always try to stop by when in SD!

Great beer and Epenadas! We particularly enjoyed the Milagro dry stout with Costa Rican Coffee and vanilla. The 10 ounce was only $8, with Sweet Corn and Basil Empanadas! We also enjoyed the Rain Pilsner, and the Dreaming of Daylight Dark Lager. The staff were very friendly, and Denise offered a great explanation of each beer we wanted to sample! This is a great place to visit for a good beer. We also enjoyed watching Notre Dame beat Penn State in tonight's game!

Cool vibe and a broad selection of brews... Had a flight, several types... and my bride even found something she can drink! Great hazy's and a wonderful dark (hazelsaurus rex) that was my fav... let's just say I carried quite a bit of beer home, so...

We are long time Pure Project lovers. We love the drink selections, the ambiance and the fact they are dog friendly. It's always good vibes here and we always leave smiling. Today I tried the pure project Sauvignon Blanc and I highly recommend. Great location, staff and relaxing place to enjoy a great drink!

We stopped by for pre-dinner drinks and loved the brewery! There were over 20 beers on tap, some incorporating unique fruits such as yuzu and dragon fruit. The bartenders were knowledgeable on the individual flavor profiles and made great recommendations. We sat on the patio - the refreshing beers paired with the warm San Diego sun made for a perfect afternoon.

Great spot to meet friends and have a drink. Do yourself a favor and get the corn empanada- it was delicious! Our group sampled several beverage options- all lovely! Not sure? The 5oz is a perfect sample size! Friendly staff can help you decide what to try! But the corn empanada is a Must!

Good clean beer with dope staff, what more could you ask for? They have a QR code to order food from next door so bring your appetite! I highly recommend the flight because there are too many solid flavors to just pick one. Each beer I tried was so unique and you can tell the brewers put a lot of time into their recipes. The overall finish is very clean and we balanced! I really enjoyed the beer and the cool atmosphere, I'll definitely be back!

I was here last night for a Yelp Event where you get a free flight. I reviewed the event but to give the business proper exposure I like to also review it on their regular Yelp site. First I would like to say the staff were very nice and helpful, especially the one explaining the flight in my photo. Second I was disappointed I chose a day where there is no Urbn pizza served as on Mondays and Tuesday there's no food. Third I was a bit disappointed in their IPA's due to the lack of hop flavor. The one I liked the best was Pure West. The others were hazy, which is not my favorite due to overall fruitiness or sweetness. I would like to see another non hazy more hoppy West Coast Style IPA on the menu. Fourth I really like the space due to its trendy modern style and the heaters. You can tell they didn't skimp on the quality of the furnishings. I believe in you Pure Project! Keep at it!

Balboa Park Pure Project is an upscale taproom and Biergarten serving a rotating selection of craft beers. URBN Pizza bakes fresh pies Wednesdays & Thursdays from 4-8:30 pm, Fridays from 3-9:30 pm, and Saturdays & Sundays from 12-7:30 pm. Staff are superb! I have a thing for darker beers and pure project has the spectrum! My favorite was the fireside mesa; it's aroma reminds me of roasting s'mores by a fire. Review of my flight in order from light to dark: 1. everything gold may stay b5 collab (refreshingly sour!) oak ba golden flanders w/ raspberries | 5.8% 2. starless sea (subtlety sweet with hints of toffee) oak lagered baltic porter | 9.8% 3. forgotten brilliance (slightly sweet and quite malty) barleywine | 12.3% 4. fireside mesa (marshmallow aroma with a rich taste - my favorite of the five) imperial stout w/ cacao & marshmallow | 11.9% 5. dark romance (fruity aroma with an overindulgently rich and sweet taste) bba imperial stout w/vanilla, cacao & strawberry | 12%

I hate beer. No, seriously... I HATE beer. Cannot stand the taste, the smell. The thought of drinking it gets my gag reflex going. But - my husband loves it so I wanted to take him with me to Pure so he could indulge. I have to admit... this place has turned a beer hater (me!) into a (Pure) beer lover. I asked the staff (Devin and Molly, I think?) what they would recommend for someone like me who can't stand beer and they stocked me up with a flight of five cute little glasses of deliciousness. All five of their recommendations were AMAZING! My favorites were the Neotropical (very sweet - almost tasted like sweet white wine) and Fireside (a dark, rich, suuuuuper smooth tiramisu flavor). I also loved that those of us sitting at the bar were given a sixth glass of another sample to try, can't remember of what. It was weird - in a good way. Regardless, we were so impressed with the gesture of being given a little something extra! Customer service was top notch and my husband was also blown away by the selection. We loved our experience here and will DEFINITELY be back! Thanks, Pure!

Intimate, earthy aesthetic, fruity beers are my go to, small groups I went to Pure Project for the first time last week and got the flight of 5 beers. This place is unique in that it's small and intimate, and the aesthetic is earthy and nature-y kind of vibe. I really liked how laid back and clean it looked too. Such a relaxing and chill place to hang out with small groups or go on a date! Service was great! Very friendly and knowledgeable on their selection of beers. I definitely lean towards the fruity beers more. The Neotropical and Yuzu were the best tasting in my opinion. They were so light and refreshing -- very easy to sip on. I personally am not the biggest fan of darker beers, but I was recommended a dark beer that tasted like Vanilla and S'mores. Will definitely be back to try more of their beers on tap.

I've been to a few pure projects now, but this is one of my favorites! I enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant, and it is especially nice that it is so close to downtown. Of the flavors we tried, the fireside mesa is a must try! It tastes exactly what I imagine drinking a glass of smores would taste like! We also tried the tropical mist and neotropical mist, of which I loved the neotropical mist was so good!! The outdoor seating is very nice with the heaters especially this cold time in San Diego. The staff were welcoming and explained the different drinks with alot of patience. Would recommend checking this place out!
