Pure Project Planning North Park Tasting Room - Eater San Diego

"Despite breweries being on pause under the current stay-at-home order, Pure Project is moving forward with its next tasting room, which is coming to North Park. Founded in 2016, the Miramar-based craft brewery is on a steady expansion streak, having launched a second tasting room in Bankers Hill in mid-2019 and a third outpost in Carlsbad just last summer." - Candice Woo

Tucked away between two buildings like a hidden gem, this brewery is seriously one of a kind. The vibe is super chill, with a cool, almost secret-alley feel that makes you feel like you're in on something special. You can really taste the difference in their beers—fresh ingredients make all the difference, and they clearly care about quality. It’s the kind of place you randomly stumble upon and then can’t stop telling your friends about. Highly recommend grabbing a flight and just soaking it all in. 🍻

Pure Project never disappoints! We absolutely love the welcoming outdoor space—it’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a flight. Their beer selection is incredible, offering something for every palate, from murky IPAs and bold Imperial stouts to refreshing hard seltzers and smoothie beers. We always opt for a five-taster flight, and it’s such a treat to discover new favorites with each visit. Beyond the great beer, we truly appreciate their commitment to sustainability. Pure Project sets the gold standard for how a globally conscious business should operate. Plus, their dog-friendly atmosphere is a huge bonus! Our pup never wants to be left behind when we go out, and this is the perfect spot to bring her along. Cheers to great beer, great values, and a place our little family—including the four-legged member—can enjoy!

I was in town visiting and my friend suggested this spot. There are a lot of tables and chairs and enjoy the sunshine or sit inside on the soft couch. We went to the counter and I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to drink so we tasted a few beers and they offer 2 different wines. I was not a fan of the wines so I opted foe the beers. I had the Lotus Sunset and my friends ordered their drinks. Another friend ordered the flight. Overall, a great spot to hangout at with my OG Yelp Elites of SD.

Google
Pure Project has consistently excellent beer and a great atmosphere. It's really hard to beat as a go-to spot to grab a beer and relax. This location has tons of outdoor seating where you can enjoy the great San Diego weather. It can get a bit cold at night. There is a covered patio and a decent amount of indoor seating, too. The space is large enough to accommodate all sizes of parties. It's a pet friendly establishment. Parking can be a bit challenging to find, but that's true if everywhere in North Park. Almost all parking will be street parking somewhere near by.

Google
We are locals in North Park, and this is our favorite spot for beers. Love how the taps are constantly changing. Great relaxed ambiance! The staff is always super nice and willing to answer questions, which is amazing. I would say we come a few times a month to try their rotating beers. Can visit by yourself, with a small group, or great for a big group as well. Super cute and trendy decor too!!!

Always love coming here ! Pure Project is by far hands down the best Brewery in the country ! Michael and Randy are awesome!!

Google
What an awesome brewery! Solid spot with lots of seating inside and outside. Great selection of hazys! There was some food available on site, but we didn't try it. Dog friendly. Solid bathrooms haha. Street parking can be tough, but worth the stop!

Google
Went here for my boys post wedding hair of the dogs. The bartenders were extremely hospitable and helped me figure out what I wanted to choose for my flight. It was a tad bit chilly and the bartender did not hesitate at all to come over and then on the fireplace for us. Overall, loved the vibes, the staff, the restrooms were extremely clean, and everything was top notch.

Yelp
I had a great time at the tasting room! The beer was great and the servers were awesome! If you are there look for the server Steven. He was very helpful and made great suggestions on what beers to try!

Yelp
I had a really great time when I recently stopped by Pure Project's spot in North Park. Prior to, I had only had their beers on an occasional menu in SF. Getting to visit an actual location, there were so many great selections to choose from! New England IPA's were well represented, which suited my tastes well. Another reason why I like this location is that it's mostly outside and perfect for hanging out with friends on a warm night (which, in San Diego, is frequent hah). And the bartenders are very friendly and helpful--quickly serving those who know what they want and providing rec's for those who aren't quite sure. Looking forward to stopping by again my next visit to San Diego.

Yelp
The crazy thing about Pure Project is that you can visit any location and the service is good and the beer is good. I don't know the secret sauce but it works every time. A case study should be done on this because so many places expand and lose a little of what makes them so good. Pure Project expands and maintains their essence. Definitely worth it to check out.

Yelp
Great beer variation ! Music and employees were more than awesome, the ambiance outside was the icing on the cake. +++ dog friendly

Yelp
A pretty relaxing place to enjoy a variety of beers. With the 5 oz flight you can definitely explore the selection. Haven't had an unhappy taste yet. A very nice outdoor experience to sit in sun or shade. Drop in and enjoy the fun beer selections!

Yelp
This place was kinda cool. The vibe was sorta what I was looking for on a Sunday evening when we came. I wasn't looking for a party. Wasn't looking for a divey place. Just a place with solid music to tap my fingers to. Some beer to sip on. Comfy couches and places to lounge out on. And good lighting. I got all of that here at Pure Project. There's an indoor and outdoor spot that is separated by garage doors. The indoor spot is small. Good enough for maybe 20 people. Outdoors have about 60 spots for people. The capacity of the place is 88. There are four gender neutral bathrooms located at the end of the bar. It's dog friendly also. Me and my partner each got a flight. It's five 5oz for the price of 4. Half of what we got was terrible. The other was great. Some of the ones we liked were "Obsidian Cliff" "I Choose Yuzu" and "Opaque Dreams" but in the grand scheme of things it was a fun way to experience very interesting flavors and expand our palette. The only thing I would change is that the bartenders were a bit cold and short. This easily could have been a four star place. But I didn't feel comfortable here with the two staff members even though our interactions were limited and although there was nobody else in line. So for that. It's a 3 stars. Other than that. I'd give it an easy 4.

Yelp
We came here for a friend's birthday on a Friday night. The beer was tasty, the service even better, and the ambience on point! It was quite crowded which meant a long line to get drinks initially, but part of that was the awesome service at the bar. They did not rush you, took the time to understand what you like, and gave multiple samples to ensure you loved your drink. Plus, once the demand normalized, it was pretty manageable. There were multiple seating areas with many fire pits and heaters so even though it was chilly, we were very comfortable. They let you bring your own food in which is awesome and there was a taco stand to order from as well. The crowd was mostly 20s-40s with a few kids around as well as dogs. In general, a very chill vibe. Parking is normal for North Park, but we found a spot in the neighborhood a block away. It's usually 2 hour parking, but only until 6p with Sundays/Holidays are exempt.

Yelp
Great beer selection (even for a non IPA drinker). Great happy hour or Saturday afternoon date spot. Lots of cute seating, picnic tables and porch swings. Dog friendly. Order your beer at the counter, keep a tab open and find a seat. There's also some food trucks around. Very north park vibe.
google avatar

Eric P.

Yelp
I've been a huge fan of pure project for a while and this was my first visit at the North Park location. It has a spacious outdoor area with plenty of space to sit and a few fire pits. No on site food, but they have A variety of food trucks that will stop by during the weekends. There are also a good amount of eateries nearby and they allow you to bring food in. Their beer is truly some of my favorite and the service here is fantastic. It's rare to find a brewery with this large of a tap list. Overall I highly recommend this location and honestly any of their locations in the SD area. You'll never leave disappointed.
google avatar

Sean H.

Yelp
Awesome outdoor venue, with benches, fire pits, and small indoor area with a TV or two. I'm not much of an IPA or beer person, but this is my exception! They have a lot of sours and overall creative brews to choose from. To get your drinks you wait in a line, wasn't anything special but gets the job done. Get a flight and the 6th one is free!
google avatar

Mya T.

Yelp
Long time favorite brewery right here. I love coming here because the arrangement of seating is so unique and spacious. I tend to get their stouts or sours but was recommended this hazy IPA after explaining to the bartender what flavors I wanted to taste. Cheers to more beer !!
google avatar

Salena C.

Yelp
The service already worth coming. Michael is very friendly and he introduced every beer! SO COOL.
google avatar

Harry P.

Yelp
Awesome spot with great beer, nice beer garden with plenty of seating. Staff are super friendly and they have a great tap list
google avatar

Madi H.

Yelp
Good brews and good vibes! I like the line setup to grab a beer and then find a seat. There's plenty available, mostly outside, which is great in the gorgeous SD weather. I tried one of the lighter citrus-y beers they had on current roatation. Love!
google avatar

Zen X.

Yelp
Great brewery. Nice seating both inside and outside. Very friendly service. I had a flight of five beers: 1. Milagro 2. Forgotten Brilliance 3. Chocosaurus Rex 4. Obsidian Cliff 5. Enchiridion These are all dark beers, and they were all really good and very flavorful.
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Really good beer, and a wide selection of different types of beer so whatever you're into you're sure to find something you like. I split a sampler flight with a friend. My selections were the Avior La Peche, peach brandy barrel aged imperial stout and the Planifolia Brandy Barrel Aged Imperial stout with double vanilla, both were very smooth, the vanilla really came thru in the Planifolia. I also tried the Blue Crush, a beer slush made from the Diamond dust IPA with flavors of pineapple and coconut. I could still taste the pine tree notes of an IPA but the pineapple coconut also came thru. It was very smooth and I could see why the chose this to make a beer slush, kinda their take on a pina colada. The space has a large back yard lounge type feel to it, there's lots of tables and benches to hang out in. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable about all the beers on tap and patient in describing and recommending things to you when you describe what you usually drink. Since its an outside area dogs are allowed. This is just a nice place to hang out at and chill with friends. Parking is all on the street but you can usually find on just a few blocks away

Yelp
This location is so nice - staff is friendly and outgoing and the ambience was on point. We had a big group and was pretty rowdy, but Ashley and a bunch of the staff was super helpful and friendly!! If you are ever in San Diego, come to Pure Project!!! AMAAAAAAZING!!!!!!!
google avatar

Jenna B.

Yelp
Great brewery space! There's ton of seating - high tops, benches, egg chairs... in a nice open space courtyard. Order at the bar from an extensive list of taps, they also have some cans, then find a seat. The fireplaces and heaters were turned on, so easily fought the evening chill. Not many TVs means it was relatively quiet, and a good place to actually have a conversation. Shoutout to Evan behind the bar.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Another pure project location for the win! Let me tell you, pure project knows how to pick some amazing spots (minus the Miramar location- it's just too small for me!). This spot has a great neighborhood vibe. When my better half and I went, it was a gorgeous day. The space is mostly outside...and there was a food truck raring to go! Now the beer, it's Pure Project. They brew up some tasty stuff and they always have a few darks on tap for people like me who despise IPAs. Love this location! I'll be back when I'm in the neighborhood. Cheers!

Yelp
Stopped in last night to celebrate a friends birthday, seating is open and they have plenty of seating. We were a big group about 12 people and were able to find comfortable seating with a heater. It was a chilly night so very cool that they have open fire and heaters available. All my friends tried 2-3 different beers and no complaints. The slushee's seemed to have been the jem. I'm not a beer person myself, so I just had one of their flavored sparkling waters, they offered to put it in a glass which was a nice touch. Overall very nice place to hang out and have a drink or two. Can see myself returning! Also, they are dog friendly
google avatar

Yelp
From the street, it doesn't look like much until you walk in and realize how much space it actually takes up. It's a drinker's local watering hole and if I lived in North Park, I'd definitely be there more often with friends. Now, I just need some friends... THE DRINKS | Beers and beers. I tried... - Envision | Murky (aka hazy) IPA with strong tropical flavors. It was pleasing to the palette and the hops weren't overwhelming. Great beer to try out. THE PURE PROJECT FEELS | With a casual atmosphere and an expansive outdoor lounging area, Pure Project emanates bohemian San Diego coast vibes. I loved the intimate spaces created for small groups to gather around the fire pits and the swinging patio porch benches & chairs. String lights strewn across the top is an added nice touch to the outdoor area. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the dirt floors; it kicks up too much dust when people stomp around. Maybe adding artificial turf at the seating arrangements would help reduce the dirt kick up? And lastly, the staff. The staff! Really helpful to explain each beer and patient while my mind slowly processed the menu. THE PARKING SITUATION | What parking? I had to park (free) at the small plaza next door. If you can find street parking, you deserve a free drink. WOULD I COME BACK? | Yes! I'm interested in trying out more of their IPA's.

Yelp
In town from Denver and checking out the San Diego North Park brewery scene. This is one of my favs! Molly and Evan rocked and made my visit comfortable! Super cool vibe, The no trouble in paradise smoothie sour is freaking delicious. Cheers to the brewer!
google avatar

Christian P.

Yelp
Best brewery in San Diego hands down. Casi is a phenomenal bartender with extensive knowledge on the tap list. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Alicia P.

Yelp
Pure Project is a casual place to grab a drink and relax. They have cozy seating and couches to watch sports! Recently attended a celebration in a special area near the entrance where they set up high top tables. I chose Outside of Paradise, a very light kombucha with hints of pineapple and matcha. I took a sip of my friend's refreshing ube slushie. But they ran out before I could get one. The line can get long, but it moves quickly and service is great!! Also, there are many food options nearby that you could bring to eat along with your favorite brew.
google avatar

Yelp
Pure Project kills it when it comes to hazy IPAs. There's not much better in San Diego. They also put out some epic stouts. The NP location is indoor-outdoor (seating is outdoors) and it's a fun modern spot to meet friends for a drink. There's usually a 3rd party food truck / food tent. They have modern swings and picnic tables and umbrellas and it's dog and kid friendly. Great vibes. Service is all order at the bar and the staff was super knowledgeable and really friendly. This is my favorite of the Pure Project locations around San Diego.
google avatar

Kallie M.

Yelp
Pure Project is an absolute favorite in San Diego and this particular location stands out among the rest. Pure impresses with its selection and provides a neat outdoor space to relax in that feels farther away from the street than it is. Service is great, the outdoor seating is excellent. Food is not served here but they had a vendor that was set up in the corner for purchase if desired. Great spot to relax
google avatar

Diego A.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Great beer. Great service. I came here for a friends birthday and this place does not disappoint. Pure Project is for anyone and everyone.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Great beer Super Dog friendly Outdoor seating Food truck Friendly beer tenders One of my favorite spots of Pure. The only downside is parking. Some days you have to circle around and some days you get lucky. They'll have maybe one hard kombucha available and sometimes a weekend or holiday themed slushie. If you've never been, get a flight. It's 5 tasters for the price of 4.
google avatar

Rae A.

Yelp
Came during a fun food pairing for pastries and alcohol! How fun is that! My friend let us know about an event where we had to preorder and choose a location to get our treats. Parking was, as expected, you might have to drive a little. Including on a Sunday. When we showed up around 1/1.30 pm it wasn't super busy but it started picking up. We did get a table though! Service was easy (we showed our order number) and quickly given our drinks + pastries. It was just a great experience from getting a voucher/pastries for our friend that wasn't able to make it and then enjoying our time eating all the delicious items!! Truly a fan of the cute decor and open space + the smell of the tacos were very appetizing!
google avatar

Hannah W.

Yelp
Devin, Evan, Micah are wonderful! they're so kind and great to chat with. I messed up my beer request and Micah quickly fixed it and was really accommodating to the change. I always enjoy coming to this pure project location and trying their new flavors! there's always something new to try!
google avatar

Kylee S.

Yelp
Pure NP is my go to spot to meet a friend for a beer and catch up! Steven was awesome and took great care of us. He talked us through some of the new beers on the tap list and let us try a few. Always impressed by the beer quality and friendly staff!
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
I've visited Pure Project North Park multiple times since the first, and it never gets old! The beautiful vibes during the summer season is so hard to beat, especially when they bring out the Beer Slushies! Make sure you stop by to say hello to the friendly staff and grab a drink or two and enjoy the summer sun!
google avatar

Tommy S.

Yelp
Dropped in for a few tasters with friends. Micah and Randyn took great care of our group with some tall orders. Love the variety of high quality flavors available here. Nice dog friendly outdoor space with plenty of seating. Always a good time!
google avatar

Becca L.

Yelp
The North Park location is amazing. Tons of outdoor seating, friendly staff, and amazing beer. Pure Project never disappoints. Brandon, Evan, and Liz were working the bar and were incredible!
google avatar

Yelp
Totally found this place by complete accident but when I noticed the greenery on the porch I decided to stop in for a brew! The porch is huge with a ton of seating. We had no issue in securing a nice little spot around a fire pit and pretty comfy egg chairs. They had a food truck available too by way of a back gate that made it super convenient if you wanted a snack. The bartenders were all super friendly and helped answer any questions we had. I got the IPA on draft which wasn't hoppy enough for my taste but my partner was happy with their choice of the sour on draft that came in a super spiffy glass. We hung out for a little and both agreed Pure Project would be a great brewery to take someone visiting from out of town because it just felt super San Diego.
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place with good beer selection and a pretty outdoor space, this is your spot!! When my friends and I stepped in, we noticed how nice the vibe was, but it was quite crowded and it was hard for us to find a seat Saturday afternoon. However, as time got more late (5-6pm), it did clear up more. I tend to enjoy the fruity drinks and liked the everything gold may stay. It was pretty sour though!! The other one my group enjoyed was one of the saisons (dont remember which). I also thought it was cool there was a smoothie sort of drink and it was not bad n fun to try!
google avatar

Nick W.

Yelp
Great beer, awesome location and Molly/Alex are some kick ass beertenders. Come check it out bring your friends and enjoy the ambiance.
google avatar

Felipe G.

Yelp
Amazing beer and space. Staff is polite and knowledgeable. Food truck available but so many nearby businesses that you can order food from and bring to brewery. Pure project has some of the best hazy IPAs around. Have already visited twice and will repeat.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
We love Pure Project! This North Park location has such a beautiful outdoorsy area and chill vibe. Add that to their stellar menu and this place is FANTASTIC! We love it. We've been fans ever since they had their first location at Miramar. We love Pure Project!
google avatar

Camille P.

Yelp
Excellent place to try out your next favorite brew or cider ! Super place to meet up with friends or a new date. Love the different hang areas (big picnic tables, swinging chairs, porch swings, oversized wicker chairs etc outside where dogs and kids are welcome or inside bar and some tables. I also love the choice of pours from a few oz to the big one or I think growlers are available but not sure. Servers are super nice and efficient and patient when you just can't decide lol. It can get really busy on weekend nights and there often are food trucks on site or you can bring local food in. Highly recommend this place!

Daulton S.

Yelp
Amazing beer options and atmosphere. The reviews stood out to me, 4.9/5 ... can't be perfect, I get it. I figured I would add to it.

Bryan C.

Yelp
Pure Project NP is a great place to hang out. You won't find a better selection or quality of beer. They are second to none. All the beertenteders are great people. Randyn, Jesse, Micha, Evan, Molly and Ashley are all rockstars and will recommend the perfect beer.
google avatar

Brontë M.

Yelp
Such a cute place. I loved the style of it all, it felt very welcoming for everyone- pets included. I went with a tour group and we tried a flight that was super diverse. Light beers, IPAs and kombucha, oh my! It was so much fun to try such a range flavors. I would definitely go back and try more if I was ever in the area again. I will have to go back to try a slushie, they look amazing.
google avatar

Reena A.

Yelp
Cute and massive outdoor patio... great spot for groups to roll up with no reservation. Really good variety of beers. Ended up here for brunch because everywhere else we considered was too busy. They had a Mexican food vendor set up in the back on this Sunday morning and they said they will be doing this regularly on Sundays. You can also bring in your own food! Their smoothie beer was a great choice for brunch and was a surprising 8% I've been here one other time in the evening and it was great vibes then too. Good music the entire time.
google avatar

Elijah J.

Yelp
We love this spot! Great beer and atmosphere! Amazing service from the staff as well, especially from Ashley Purdy who always makes it an extra fun time and who makes sure to go out of her way to make you feel welcome. Can't say enough good things about this place.
google avatar

Brittany D.

Yelp
Great service and atmosphere. What I like best is their large variety of beers on tap. They have the standards but they also had sours, a smoothie beer and barleywine!
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
Nice outside place to hang out and great beer as usual. Pure makes great beers in all styles. Went to this event for a beer release my homebrew club participated in and national homebrewers conference kick off party.

Yelp
We came for the glass, but glad we stayed. The location has an amazing outdoor space, food truck with good options, and a fun environment! The staff is super nice too
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome indoor/outdoor vibe! Good amount of seating. There was a food truck on-site. Order at the bar and seat yourself. Great beers with a lot of variety in their tap rotation.

Alyssa M.

Yelp
This is a great spot for chill drinks. The vibes were great and staff was amazing! cheers!
