Great craft beer pub with so many awesome taps to choose from. Gets packed, so get there early or book ahead. Share plates and small bites are perfect for a session of beer tasting, and there are bigger plates for those that come hungry!

An impressive selection of ales in this pub. I had two different Purity ales, and would recommend that you try a bit before you buy. The bartender's recommendation was spot on regarding his opinion on the better ale. The only disappointment was that cash is not accepted. Quite annoying if you've withdrawn cash earlier.

Couldn’t decide where to go to decompress after a long week and walked past this place so decided to give it a try. The beer selection was phenomenal and we were very happy with the choices we made. The staff were friendly and I love the atmosphere - not too rowdy and you are able to talk normally without having to shout at one another. The food was ok. Was definitely impressed with the runny yolk in the scotch egg but to be honest, if I wasn’t told that it’s duck, I’d never have been able to tell. It was like any other meat and for the price, I kind of expected it to be a little better. However, a good bar snack nonetheless to go with a couple of good pints.

Always a great Sunday dinner. Purity gold was amazing. Nice and quiet for a Sunday chill. Food was spot on. Fish may have been a bit smaller than expected but still full of flavour. Really nice of the friendly team to let us take our bikes in whilst we dined.

A staple location for my friendship group from work. Good selection of liquids, great kitchen and cozy atmosphere. Always the backup for when I don't know if someone visiting likes a specific cuisine.

Gets the combination of doing food and beer right. Make sure you get their pork scratchings, quality. Had just gone in for beers and scratchings but the food looked and smelled very good so shared a schnitzel and chips. It was top notch. Go in regularly for beers but will make sure I eat again. Service was excellent as well.

Google
Very good beer centrally located near Victoria square. They have a fine selection of craft beer from Purity and a board with tasting notes etc. All reasonably priced as well. Nice premises with good range of small and large tables. Friendly staff. Certainly now on my regular list.

Great choice of beers and the food is perfect to accompany a couple of beers on an afternoon. Food is a little pricey, but not out of the range of local restaurants in this area. I am however, really hoping they bring back the normal scotch eggs they used to have on the menu, currently they only have a venison scotch egg which is a little too rich for my taste (and pretty expensive at £9.50 for a 'small plate' menu item. I tried the Catharina Peach Melba which is slightly sour and was perfect for a sunny afternoon! It can get a little busy here on the weekends, however there is plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice and the food was good on both occasions, but didn't knock my socks off. I love the choice of the beers here, I get a special pleasure from asking the barman for a cwtch :) My main reason to visit is Cafe Scientifique which occurs on the first Tuesday of the month. There is a speaker on a scientific topic talking without notes or slides and involving the audience. Learning and beer, now you're talking!

Yelp
Purecraft (or Purity, depending on where you see the name) is the quintessential gastropub in every way. From the great selection of food and drinks to the excellent service and stripped-down décor, this place was pure enjoyment. The beer list is very good with many craft beers (or real ales) on it from regional as well as international brewers. The focus is on English and American breweries, but stretches to other lands as well. The variety is solid and many are on tap. The food was delicious! I had been comparing different restaurants' fish and chips offerings at the time and had to agree with my friend from Sheffield when we dug into our baskets, "Thassawroitproppapeezafisch, innit?" Yes, it was! Nice breading, lots of white meat. Good stuff! Service was attentive and the actually come to your table to take the order; a luxury that I noticed you don't get in every pub (I'm American, so I wasn't familiar with all of the customs). The dining area and bar are both pretty stripped down, industrial chic with lots of raw surfaces, exposed ducting and the like. I was a bit put off by the toilets being downstairs which could prove problematic for anyone with a disability. I left feeling full and amazing! I really enjoyed Purecraft!

Yelp
I went inside to be seated and there was no person present to seat me there so I waited. They never came and I went inside and asked someone if I should wait to be seated and she said no, sit down and she would bring me a menu. I waited 15 minutes and she never dropped a menu off even though she was nearby. She may not have see me, but it was a waste of time. It wasn't really crowded, the side room was empty and the main room was about 80-90 percent full with allot of space near the bar open. The environment and vibe was great, but since I was never served, I left.

Yelp
I'd had a wander and was ready for lunch, but at 3.00pm there was nowhere serving nearby or the places that were just didn't tickle me. I was almost ready to get the 101 bus back to the JQ when I remembered down Waterloo Street, opposite where I used to work, was Purecraft. About time I popped in and I could also check out my old office building ... the place that first brought me kicking and screaming to Brum. On that, I'm amazed that Adam's is taking the ground floor. So, I wander in to the bar and immediately like it. It has a great integrity about it. It just works really well. Everything feels the right quality and it's spacious and feels quite light. The bar is lovely and wide, great for the staff to work behind. Only bar food by this time I'm told, but am feeling at home so I choose a ham sandwich on sour-dough with (I think) home-made piccalilli. A mega garish award winning beers tap stared me in the face, so I asked if I could sample. No problem says the very nice barman. Yum. Dude, that's good. Serve me a pint of that I say. No problem finding somewhere to sit this time of day, tho there are several folks in, and it's a window seat for me looking onto Waterloo Street and away from everyone else. I'm thinking the service here is exceptional. The hipster style dude is A1. This is maybe the only time I've had decent service off a beardie. I sip my truly excellent, super-clear pint. I unfurl the paper and before I know he's there with my Sarnie. Friendly, discrete, nothing too much fuss. It's a great sarnie too. Decent ham of good quality, great bread, nice smudge of good butter, truly awesome Piccalilli on the plate and a small (slightly over-salted on the dressing) side salad. Happy as Larry for around £10. Ok, not a cheap sarnie by any means but it was made with love and care and the ingredients where fresh. All in I was very impressed with every aspect of this place and will definitely pop by again when next over that way.

Yelp
Probably more of the kitchen than the bar here, they do serve a very extensive (around 15 - 20) range of beers but they lack a really good bar atmosphere and don't have enough seating for people who are just drinking. That's a shame really because it's a nice, industrial style place which would be a good place to go and chat (and never drink the same thing twice). When you add the food into the equation though it's an entirely different matter, the food here is top notch. Okay the food menu isn't extensive but they seem to have taken a focused approach, doing what is on there to the best quality. Food type is very much "elevated pub" you'll get burgers, scotch eggs and fish and chips etc but it's all done to the highest standard. Don't forget to check the specials board either, it's a little hidden away by the kitchen but they sometimes have some real gems on it, the pig burger was a real winner. Staff are friendly and they are happy to let you have tasters of the beer and talk you through what might match well with the food, judging from the staff entry during the beer round of a quiz they really know their stuff. If you are eating you'll get full table service. Well worth a visit, but go there to eat so you can enjoy the place to its full potential. Shout out to the Sunday roast as well, truly awesome (as long as you like beef or fish) and, at £14 including a pint, an incredible bargain. Secondary shout outs to the scotch eggs, they are some of the best you can get, and speed quiz nights on a Monday in the basement, which is the best way to quiz.

Yelp
Good craft beer + cheese = happy me. The interior is very spacious, modern and unassuming, and suggests an atmosphere that's more 'cocktail bar' than pub... but Purecraft Bar And Kitchen is definitely a place for the beer lover. It has a fantastic selection of draught beers (about 1/4 are Purity ales but the rest are a constantly changing selection of craft beers from all over the place). Via a Yelp event I was finally able to try the 'Kitchen' part of Purecraft Bar And Kitchen, and it did not disappoint. The best scotch egg I've had in Birmingham, a delightful cheese board, addictive BBQ chipolatas, and just generally fantastic snackage go with your beer of choice. The staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly. Basically a great place to grab a few pints and split a cheese board (or you know, just eat the cheese board yourself because who wants to share that goodness?).

Yelp
Purecraft Bar & Kitchen is a nice enough addition to the city centre bar scene. I think its door have been open for around a year and it seems to have settled in well, especially with the afterwork drinkers from the offices and workplaces that take over this part of town from 5pm onwards. The bar itself is exactly what you would expect from a brewery opening up their own venue, a large selection of larger's and ales are on offer with all of the available drinks being displayed on a chalk board above the bar. We went for an IPA that to my surprise had a great flavour of almost citrus, it was a fantastic drink but at £6 a glass it was a pretty expensive! I think for complete transparency the prices of the drinks should be displayed on the menu board, its is currently only when the drinks have been poured you find out the heavy price tags. The other negative for me is that I always feel this place lacks atmosphere. It feels a little bit sterile and lacking the buzz you get at other city centre drinking spots. Over all I like this place....i sadly don't love it, I have however heard that the food here is excellent so I will be back at some point to give it a go.

Yelp
Loved this place! It's like a more genteel Brewdog, and apparently the local Warwickshire brews are fantastic. They also have fancy coke in a bottle so I'm basically sold. The food menu is also very appealing, I had a very nice scotch egg and mac n cheese (with bacon, as I like to add bacon to everything) and my friend had a chilli sausage roll and pork scratchings which he also really enjoyed. Definitely my favourite place in Birmingham so far and highly recommended!

Yelp
This is definitely the modern white man pub. Part of that made me want to not like it when I was brought here by a friend earlier in the year, thattime just for a gin and tonic- but the bike seats, rustic feel, scotch eggs on the menu and the sheer amount of ales on the menu made me look past my millennial scoffings at white privilege (and to our eyebrows and hilarity at the unfortunately misinterpretable name) and spotted that it's somewhere that my father would adore. So when he wanted me to go shopping with him to help him pick presents for my mother, I knew this would lift the shopping in Birmingham grump. Immediately he was diving into the menu and quite excitedly reading out every second option, and being extremely impressed at the drinks sheet, and complimenting my choice of joint again when he spotted the bitterness years. The friend who brought me here first had receommended the burgers, so I plumped for that, (awesome meat, just the right amount of tart pickle in brioche with sauce and perfectly seasoned herby chips, yum) and my father is indecisive at the least interesting of menus, so his torn self ended up making friends with the very knowledgeable waiters and having two small plates, the perfectly cooked scotch egg, and the mushrooms (of several varieties) on sourdough toast, both of which were greatly enjoyed. The wine and cheese board were also thoroughly appreciated. As goes for the beer. My dad started with a pint, then was delighted when I pointed the indecisive chap to the "we serve it in thirds!" note. Despite our lovely waitress being extremely attentive, my dad couldn't wait and disappeared to the bar, having picked a flight, brought over in charming colour order, and including a rather tasty hopped cider too. He really enjoyed everything, so much so that he then loaded himself up with two bags of beer that you can buy to take home from the fridge at the end of the bar. Thankfully though, enjoying 2 and a third pints of good booze had elevated him to a good enough mood to not care about carrying the weight of them around the city for five soggy hours. I'm convinced that the booze made him more generous with the Christmas purchases too! Stamp: Dad approved!

Yelp
Top notch beer selection, ales and craft beers. All beers are served in excellent condition. A good selection of Purity's own beers and guests. They've had a number of beers on from Roosters, one of my favourite breweries. Food is damn good too (I recommend the steak).

Yelp
Having visited this venue for a Yelp event I knew what was in store and decided to pop here on a Saturday night before having a meal. The atmosphere was great - buzzing and busy and if you are a single lady on the prowl this may just be the place to come as there are plenty of men around! We almost had to push our way to the bar but was served fairly swiftly and made a beeline for a table upstairs so that we could perch and people watch. I must admit if I was coming here for a meal I would come during off peak times, as some tables are quite close to the bar area and if you are sitting down people are standing up close by - a bit too close for comfort and not a place for a romantic meal! In all in all a great bar with plenty of real ales on tap and 75+ bottled beers in modern industrial surroundings. I like it!

Yelp
Pure Bar and Kitchen is the hugely anticipated venture between Michelin starred restaurant Simpsons and Warwickshire based brewers, Purity. Located on Waterloo Street (next to Victoria Square), this venue couldn't get much more central. It was with quite a bit of excitement I popped in yesterday for a late lunch and to see if it was worthy of the hype. It's got a well designed but very minimalist feel. Think clean, fresh, open and basic. With a few different areas including a small lounge area (which can be reserved for meals), an open kitchen (so you can see your food being prepared), a large bar area with a huge beer board and a well stocked fridge of import ales and a few different areas with wooden tables, your experience will be quite different if you are eating or just grabbing a pint. I popped in just after 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. Despite the slightly later time of day (after the lunch rush), it was still pretty busy; although this could be due to the fact it's opening week. It's a little daunting at first, but I spotted some free space on a bench like communal table and dropped my stuff down before heading to the bar for a proper peruse of the selection of drinks and food. My barman (Martin) was serving a group as I approached the bar. He was talking them through the vast and interesting selection of soft drinks available which included Fritz Cola, interesting fruit juices and some of your more regular options too. As soon as it was my turn to be served, I was talked through the options avaliable to aid me in making the right choice. Martin was helpful, funny and made me feel right at home (despite not feeling quite as dressed up as the other clientele having meetings). I settled into the lounge area in the end and awaited my Pea and Pear soup. It wasn't a long wait and was well worth it. Served in a metal mug (with a spoon), my only criticism was that it didn't come with any bread. However, for £4 for the mug, I felt this was great value. The brownie I was treated too was most definitely excellent to boot. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a rush so I couldn't stay for too long in the venue. Needless to say, I will be back soon (as I told the barman when he waved me goodbye and wished me a good day). I can't wait to try some more of the menu next time and who knows... it might get the missing star on the next visit?

Yelp
Don't make the mistake of JUST drinking here. It had been an after work drinks place of choice for me for a while but it so much more than that! The food is as good as the buzzing atmosphere in the bar. Try the scotch eggs or the mac cheese or the duck. All delicious. Can't always get a table for drinks so not ideal if you want to sit down and matter with a friend you haven't seen in a while, but otherwise, a great venue with quite a chic warehouse look.

Yelp
Havent yet tried the food out here, but was very impressed by the range of drinks. Great mix of beers, ales, and ciders and even the soft drinks are bottled independents which is great to see. There seems to be more of a restaurant feel than a bar, as theres lots of seating that looks meant for food only.

Yelp
Purecraft Bar & Kitchen in downtown Birmingham is a very stylish, upmarket "pub" close to the must-see Museum & Art Gallery. It is run by Purity Brewery, so expect their full range of real ales - plus many, many guest ales on top. Beer-range wise, this is one of the best places in Birmingham, and they're all very well kept - I sampled three ales, all in perfect condition. Of course, I didn't expect anything less from an establishment that charges you UKP 6 a pint - a premium outside of London. Also, the food, while very nicely presented, I found only a tad above average and a bit pricey, too. 17 quid for a modestly dimensioned Chicken Kiev, however well presented, is a bit much. The menu itself is nicely small-ish, which is usually a good sign. Typical modern British pub and grill options. The staff though were VERY welcoming indeed, and they let me sample every beer that caught my fancy, and not from a schnapps glass, which you'll normally get for tasters. The Purecraft Bar & Kitchen attracts a hipster-ish crowd, make no mistake about it. If you're fine with that - and the prices - do not hesitate to pay the place a visit. Great for real ale!

Yelp
Visited with a group of yelp newbies on a Wednesday evening. It was fairly busy and somewhat basic in style 90's new york loft style and decor inside didn't match the exterior. As i walked up to the building i was expecting fine dining and expensive drinks, but when you enter its a whole different story. They need to make a better connection of their image on the exterior of the building because for me personally it was misleading. Food was good - small plates Average price around £5-6.50 and larger main meals at £11.50 for fish and chips and upwards. The Scotch eggs are lovely and also the cheese board is great too, we also had cocktail sausages. For me i'm not so much a beer/ale drinker, but great if you like a wide choice of beers and I guess most going here do, I wouldn't go again for the drinks but for the food i certainly would do. For anyone who is super passionate about ales and craft beers they have a small tasting room downstairs where they can hold tasting events for 4-10 people. Different packages are available and can be tailored to suit the client. They also offer a public tasting on sundays from 6.00pm. 6 different ales to try for £20.00 a head. The venue was open plan and spacious and they also have downstairs seating area. good seating areas, but no outside seating. The toilets are clean and fresh. Parking is available on the side streets after 7.30pm its free. Over all an enjoyable evening the drinks are just not for me but the food i can't fault.

Yelp
We really liked Pure - it has an industrial yet cosmopolitan interior which was quite unexpected given how pristine and Georgian (?) it looks from the outside. Long wooden tables, steel furnishings, exposed brickwork and pipes on the bar. As Natalie W says, it could be described as a more elegant BrewDog. There's a good separation of the drinkers from the diners, it's primarily an eatery but the bar is large enough for a casual drink and there's plenty of communal seating. Their offering of craft beer is pretty good (recommend Mad Goose) and they have a range of specialist lagers if ale isn't your thing. A great informal spot for popping into for a pint or two.

Yelp
I expected Pure Bar & Kitchen to have something of an air of superiority about it, not that I wasn't excited about a joint venture between Purity brewery and Simpson's restaurant but I was worried it could have a bit of a snobbish vibe to it. I couldn't have been more wrong. Both times I've been in the staff have been nothing more than downright cheery and welcoming. The selection of beers is very solid with something for everyone from German weissbier to American IPAs and everything in between (and of course several from Purity themselves). The stark wood and steel interior is perfectly balanced with the vibrant atmosphere and although the toilets are a bit confusing and the beer isn't cheap it seems to rapidly be becoming a hotspot among Birmingham's growing number of great bars. As of yet I haven't eaten there but I plan to rectify that as I haven't heard anything but praise for the food - and don't worry, my review will surely be updated when I do. Way to go Pure Bar - keep it up!

Yelp
Venue lovely, food amazing, drinks fantastic, service impeccable. Purity running the bar, Michelin starred Simpsons making the food, it is an awe-inspiring spectacular sensation. Virtuous - Pure.

Yelp
Pure Bar is an excellent addition to Birmingham's fast-growing craft beer and posh nosh scene. A collaboration between Purity Ales and chef's from the Michelin-starred Simpson's restaurant, it offers delicious beers and food. The bar itself is stylish - light and airy, with an unstuffy minimalist feel. There are industrial touches, including the light fittings and long benches, which complement the historic building well. The walls are decorated with stripped back bicycle saddles and interesting artwork, which I believe is for sale. As you might expect, there is an impressive array of craft beers on offer. I try to have something new each time, and have tried several different beers - from the light and hoppy (my personal favourite) to rich and dark. Most drinks are moderately priced and you can get some strong stuff! The bar staff are all very friendly and helpful - they can offer you tasters and advice if you fancy trying something new! Having boozed at Pure Bar many a time, I finally got my chops around some of their food on a recent visit. I went with Adam S. for a spot of Sunday lunch and we both ordered from the Brunch menu, which offers a range of slightly smaller (although still filling) dishes for around £6/7. Bargain! We were served very posh pork scratchings to nibble on while we waited - a nice twist on the bar snack. I had the mini (not so mini) fish of the day, with chips and mushy peas. The fish was absolutely beautiful and flaky. Adam went for a delicious omelette. For afters (I'm greedy, and felt it would be only right to have a dessert in the interests of culinary exploration) I had apple crumble. This was served in a metal pot. Juicy hot apples covered in a layer of cinnamon sprinkled oats and topped off with a slowly melting sphere of berry sorbet. Delicious! I would definitely recommend Pure Bar to anyone out and about in Birmingham. I'll definitely be heading back to try more beers, as well as the larger plates on the menu and the bar snacks (including now-famous scotch eggs).

Yelp
Take care some beers are stronger than you think;) - Clearly some people last Thursday night didn't realise this as they were falling all over the place. Unfortunately the bar resembled something like a student Union on Sport night!:( Nevertheless, the bar staff were efficient and friendly. I have tended to go for Purity Gold, as this is only 3.8% and £3.50, so ' safer';) The food also looks great but I haven't yet sampled this. The bar is decorated in quite a simple style and infact seems to be a bar of two halves. The front is more like a cosy café, with the small side room for dining and the bike seats on the wall (for coats?!), but the main bar itself has large long tables, great for big groups who want to eat, or those who are lucky enough to go later for a drink and just want somewhere to perch.

Yelp
Review for cider and quiz night: We joined some fellow Yelpers this past Monday for the weekly quiz. What a fantastic night! If you're looking for a fun, casual activity with friends, I'd highly recommend Purecraft Bar and Kitchen's quiz night. The guy running the quiz uses a speed quiz app which one person in your team downloads on a smartphone or iPad and you buzz in your answers. The fastest team to get the correct answer gets bonus points and the advancing rounds award more points. Each team selects a signature sound which can be quite funny when one team is dominating with the fast answers and you hear their stupid sound (jk) all the time. The cider on draught is quite good. It has the perfect balance of bubbles to flat and is crisp but not too sweet. I downed 3 full pints during the quiz - very refreshing. I love the vibe in Purecraft. The decor is a combination of modern clean bright colors, light industrial and mid century. The seating was comfortable and well spaced - I liked that we were close enough to talk to other teams but not on top of each other. The quiz night was hosted in the downstairs seating area, which conveniently has a second bar for ordering drinks.

Yelp
Having come here for Stoo's fantastic pub quiz (which team "Where's Wallis" won!), it would have been rude not to try the food (and drink) as well. The thing that stood out for me was the mixed feeling you get on entering - is it a pub? Is it a restaurant? Or is it a bit of both? You could get table service or order food at the bar. I liked that. I opted for the large macaroni cheese with bacon bits and though it looked small when it arrived in its skillet pan, it was very filling and delicious, with its gooey cheese, tasty bacon and the breadcrumb topping. The pint of Purity UBU that I had went with it very nicely. Later on I sampled their bar snacks, going for the pork scratchings. They were nice and tasty but a bit too greasy for my liking. I'd definitely go back, it's a nice place to meet up with friends and have some beer and snacks or even a full blown meal.
google avatar

Jamie T.

Yelp
Myself and some of the other yelpers came here last night for the speed quiz. It was my first one and I absolutely loved it! I have visited the bar itself many times and I always enjoy myself. There is a fantastic selection beers and I like to try different ones each time I visit. Unlike traditional pub quizzes, it is executed via each teams individual tablet and the time limit on the questions ensure nobody can cheat by having their phone active underneath the table. The questions are varied and a little bit more difficult than other pub quizzes I have been to which, together with the time limit, made it more challenging and therefore exciting. My team won but I can't take credit for this as my input wasn't the best, haha! Teamed with a few pints of Longhorn craft beer, it made for a jolly Monday night. A brilliant way to shake off the January blues!

Yelp
So we thought we'd swing by on opening night to see if pure bar would live up to the ideals we had, unfortunately in the afternoon they a private function so we were left to return in the evening. Upon entry it did strike you that there was a limited amount of perches for drinkers with a few more available for diners. The bar was spotless, staff very pleased to help and actually tried to match your drink to you from the draught menu (tasters allowed!), though they did fail to mention to overstocked fridge of bottled ales at the end of the bar we later spotted but this wasn't a great problem with our wide appreciation of all things ale, the taps infact covered from light IPAs through overstrength ruby ales down to full body porters. We glanced at the food menu which had a couple of interesting ideas although being full from eating earlier we did pass on this occasion (may venture back for the choc cake and kirsch beer icecream though) Would give this a five star but we are yet to try the food and whilst fairly minimalist I can see the lack of furniture being a logistical nightmare on a Friday or Saturday night, saying that though there is a massive vacant space downstairs (could be an entire other bar down there if needed) yet to be used giving access to the toilets and what appeared to be a private function room with personal bar Will post an updated review once food has been sampled but all in all one to keep an eye on!

Yelp
I visited Pure Bar about 4 months ago ( early evening on a Monday) for a dessert / beer treat after hearing good things from friends. The bar was quiet ( & has been every time I ve been in around 7 ish, even on a Saturday). There aren't a great deal of seats but I ve never struggled to get one. I had the peanut butter ice-cream with caramelised bananas & broken up bits of peanut, with the added bonus of 1/3 pint of German Maisel Weiss wheat beer which is the perfect accompaniment with it's banana notes. It's was the perfect size & cost in keeping with bars in the area. I can also recommend the fresh pork scratchings - a necessity for me when drinking beers! The decor is cool, with a ' not quite finished' look, and there is a space downstairs for beer tasting. Service has always been good & I like the offer of table service.

Yelp
What an exciting new adding to Brum! I was counting the days to visit it and I am glad I have been there this weekend. As I would expect, the place was quite packed for a Saturday afternoon. I have a thing for restaurants and bars that use industrial theme as decor. This was exactly what caught my eyes as soon as I stepped into Pure Bar. Even the pure cemented floor is something that matches with the rest of the place. I don`t know if the idea is to looks like "unfinished" but i know it worked well for me. Okay that i could go with more furniture because the idea of big canteen kind of tables sounds perfect to make people interact, but it will be always a problem if you want to spend more time in the bar. There is always someone else waiting for take your seat. Still impressive decor and I kind of like the idea of keeping an eye on the kitchen and the bar. We can check all working done by the very enthusiastic staff, wherever you are. What about the 22 types of draught beers? They sound attractive. I went for the suggestion of my friend Melissa and got the SaddleBlack, a the black craft made by Purity itself. I am very keen on black beers and this 5.1% got my heart. Love the half pint glasses which it is served and I just wonder if Purity wouldn't sell them on website or bars. Another thing that really interested me was the bar snacks. There is something about beers and snacks that reminds me the bars in Brazil. We do love our snacks and light bites and Pure just got this excellent idea very well. They are perfect between a beer or two and they pretty much summarize the idea of a proper bar. A menu with the background of a Simpson Chef explains itself. Everything sounds delicious and the prices are not that bad. It`s still between a fiver and a tenner. Next to the toilets there is a big empty area that i believe in some point is going to be part of the bar, so I believe there are more to explore about Pure Bar in a couple of weeks. But for a "one week years old" establishment , Pure is doing a great job so far. I was lucky enough o bump into a really nice well-known yelp couple, Vicky and Dan, during my visit. It made teh afternoon more special. A real sign that Pure has brought a great vibe to the Colmore District.

Yelp
I love good food and purity ale. This collaboration supply's both. Great for a quick pint and a bite to eat or they can easily cater for larger groups too. The scotch eggs are amazing and great value. The steak is a decent cut too. My current favourite beer is cwtch welsh ale by tiny rebel. which seems to be a staple in addition to the usual purity range. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I chose the cwtch beer, which was a good choice. Really aromatic (usually my nose is terrible when it comes to this kind of stuff) and the taste was rather great too. The style of the place is rustic meets industrial chic so is very cool! I like the bar itself. The cheese from the cheese board is divine, especially when tasted with the apple chutney :)

Yelp
Popped in for a quick one, ram packed but the staff made it very easy to accommodate a large group of us. Second visit and certainly going back!

Yelp
Bleak yet fantastic industrial surroundings. Great selection of Ales and a Pilsner for me!

Yelp
You know that phrase along the lines of "nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there"? Well if it can be slightly tweaked for use with venues to "wouldn't want to stay there" then I'd apply it here. Yes I am a fan, I expected I would be as I'd followed the build up to opening and heard good things after. The food was fantastic, I had the cold meat platter off the menu and a pork pie from the bar snacks as I was in a nibbley mood and it was delicious. Everything sounded delicious to be honest and I thought it was a very good value menu. The staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic without being "in your face" which was great, you get the sense they give a whatsit and long may this continue. Beer choice, oh my, I didn't know where to start! A great selection with some really interesting stuff on the go. And the location? Well it doesn't get much better does it? And here's the but. But.....it is a bit pricey. And yes anyone can moan about the price of things but wait a minute. I'm not on about the food, as I've said I think that's bob on the money, and I'm not on about the price of the beers sourced from around the globe, they're unusual, interesting, and worth paying a bit more for. I'm more disappointed but not hugely surprised by the price of the Purity brewery's (which I've been a fan of for years) own beers. Since this is in effect a tap house then you'd have hoped for slightly better value to be honest. Or maybe a daily offer on one of their brews could be an idea? As for the décor, generally stylish and modern, though perhaps being able to see the workings of a Toshiba air conditioning unit is taking the "industrial" look a little too far. So back to my original statement. I liked it, I'll go again, and I'll bring friends. But it'll be as a stop off, try a third of this, half of that, grab a bite and then onwards to settle in elsewhere.

Yelp
We're huge fans of the Purity brand and it's something of a different concept to find a restaurant so dedicated on matching their beer and food perfectly. We had no problems getting a table for two at 7pm but it was much busier when we left so go early if you can. The beer menu is the same size at the food menu, with probably more choices. We started out with old favourites Lawless and Gold but we later went on to order a flight - 4 x 1/3 glasses which allowed us to sample three new beers (and a cider). I had the Lawless-battered fish and chips, whilst my husband opted for the BBQ chicken, Whilst the food was good, and there was plenty of it, I didn't feel that it was worth the price, and wasn't anything any more special than we could have picked up for half the cost elsewhere. I'm also not a fan of food served in those little plastic red baskets. I wouldn't necessarily go back there for a main meal again but definitely to sample more beer.

Yelp
Purecraft Bar and Kitchen has been on my radar since moving to Birmingham, and recently I was able to finally experience the bar at a Yelp quiz night social in January. Purecraft has been around for a year now, and operates in partnership with Purity Brewing Company. Purity is based in Warwickshire, a good hour drive south of Birmingham City Centre. Due to this geographic reach, it's great that I can experience the full Purity lineup without having to travel far. There are over 20 brews on cask or keg, and tons of choices from the bottle. Although Purity offerings are the main attraction, Purecraft is not a tied venture, and you can find other craft beers from both the UK and abroad. A somewhat hard to find but excellent wild ale from America is Boulevard's Tank 7, which is on tap for £5.50. On my visit, I tried several of the Purity ales and an imported German wheat beer, all of which were excellent. Their house cider is also a standout. Purecraft uses an open industrial theme throughout the place, with metal and wood tables, exposed brick walls, concrete ceilings, and subway tile behind the bar. The upstairs can seat a fair, but not huge amount of patrons. There is a downstairs bar as well, which was staffed during our pub quiz. The host here uses a speed quiz app for smart phones/tablets that allows for a variety of questions (word, picture based) and answers (letter, spelling, multiple choice). The format can be challenging, but feels much more spontaneous and fun than other pub quizzes I've experienced. Given the smart phone format and the rapid fire questions, it's also much harder for teams to cheat using the internet. Purecraft also features a full menu with upmarket pub classics as well as posh takes on typical small bites like a scotch egg. I haven't tried the food yet, but most of the items I've seen look great, albeit a bit pricey. Overall, I highly recommend Purecraft as a pub, both for their solid selection of Purity Ales and for their fun weekly events.

Yelp
Was introduced to this place via the Yelp Newbie night and thought it a very refined location for a drink or food I very much enjoyed the lighting too, for some reason, as well as the friendly staff who gave the impression they loved what they do while making you feel very welcome. A great addition to the centre and only a short jaunt up the hill from New St too, which is useful for me. Will definitely go there again.

Yelp
I go frequently because the food seldom disappoints. The menu has clarity, though it should having been designed by the man behind local Michelin triumphs Simpsons and The Cross. There are nods to ales on taps and suggestions for what beers to drink your food with that all tie in nicely with its links to Purity. A small plate of barbecued chicken sees cuts from the breast, leg, and wing cooked accurately. The bird is of obvious quality, the skin crisp and with a back note of Dunkel lager that sits well without overpowering. Soured cream provides the little amount of acidity needed to level it all out. I always turn to the scotch egg here. The runny yoke glistening against the still warm layer of minced pig never fails to disappoint. Here was the worst example I have had at Pure Bar, with the yolk all but missing from one half, which still makes it the best scotch egg in the city. What sets it apart from its competition is the beer ketchup, full of umami savour, which should be bottled and sold on every street corner. A thick slice of toasted sourdough with haricot beans steeped in a spiced tomato with pancetta was good, though all it succeeded in doing was make me remember how great the version at Lewis's was. Scotch eggs, beans on toast and bbq chicken. The more deft of you more may have noticed that the small plates all reference classic pub grub, a theme that continues into the mains. Chicken Kiev stayed true to its roots with a breast that oozed a garlic heavy sauce when carved. Its richness countered by a well dressed salad. Best was the fish, chips and mushy peas. The firm Fish of the Day (Coley, I would guess) flaking apart at the suggestion of a prod, with good crisp batter. The peas had enough texture to create interest, whilst the tartar was piquant and sharp. We have no room for dessert, though I can tell you from previous boozy excursions that they never fail to deliver on a sweet hit of sugar. If ever there was a bar and kitchen that was ready to expand its Pure Bar; the food and drink set-up makes All Bar One look like a Weatherspoon. The food is well judged and deserves a wider audience. In a market littered with sub-standard chains, it is a refreshing change to see thought gone into every process. I wouldn't be surprised if Pure Bar finds its way to other major cities, which, quite frankly, would be a good thing for everyone.

Yelp
Pure Bar is situated just off Victoria Square and looks very sophisticated and grown up from the outside. Inside has an industrial touch with exposed pipes and a concrete floor. I liked the bike seats hanging on the wall! There is a wide selection of beer from around the world as well as wines and a couple of cider so most people are catered for. If you don't think you like beer it is worth asking for a taster and trying some different things, you might be surprised! It's great that you don't have to have a pint and no one looks down their nose at you for having a half- you can even have 1/3 or 2/3 of a pint. A perfect excuse to try several different ones surely? I've been a couple of times for drinks and wanted to eat there but we popped in on a Saturday afternoon at the wrong time! They close the kitchen for a short while to prepare for the evening so double check the times on the website if you want to eat a main meal. They do have bar snacks, sandwiches and platters available however. Edd and I shared a cheese board and a meat board. These were really good and each came with bread and different accompaniments such as chutney with the cheese and a tapenade. Excitingly there was a small taster of beer to compliment each platter. I liked the dunkel which came with the meat board. A lovely afternoon and I'm looking forward to going back for a main meal.

Yelp
Nice stylish interior with penty of room even when busy. The selection of independent of brews are well described on the menu board so you can get a good idea of what will tickle your fancy. I chose a pale lager and the misses had a local brewed cider, both were really nice and refreshing but came with a hefty price tag, Around 5 to 6 quid a pint.... The crowd were mainly middle aged seemingly well to do people, all on double dates! We people watched for a while then moved on to somewhere for a decent priced pint and a whiskey.

Yelp
Great quality food. A generous selection of ales and craft beer on tap. Good relaxed atmosphere and friendly knowledgable staff. This is what you'll get from Pure Bar And Kitchen on weekdays. On weekends however this is a busy hotspot, particularly on a friday night when the crowd is mixed with workers finished for the weekend, and general partygoers. If you like a vibrant trendy atmosphere then this is the place to be at weekends. If you'd prefer some good food in a unique setting then pop down in the week.

Yelp
This is a fantastic bar! Certainly not the cheapest, but a great selection of ales set in gorgeous minimalist surroundings. Until recently, real ale fans in Birmingham have been limited to The Wellington, Post Office Vaults, and The Anchor. While all of these are great pubs, they do have the air of an old men's pubs with a slight aroma of sweaty socks at times. Brew Dog upped the bar somewhat, but this place takes it to new levels. This brings modern city style to real ale, and it's in central Birmingham too, which is great for me! I haven't tried the food yet, but the kitchen opens onto the main bar area so you can see them hard at work preparing the meals. I imagine I will be frequenting this bar quite a lot.

Yelp
My visit to Pure was..... ok. I was excited to visit after reading great reviews on Yelp, and being a fan of craft beer myself. The beer I wanted wasn't available, but a suitable alternative was offered. The food all sounded delicious on the menu but I was a little disappointed. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I felt the food I received (the chicken kiev for me, and my husband took a selection of small plates - macaroni cheese, rarebit and beer marinaded chicken) was decidedly average. I tried my husband's food too and agreed with his sentiment - the food was good but not great. I probably wouldn't choose to eat here again considering the other great eateries to visit in Birmingham, but would happily come back for a drink or three ;) Service was good, if a little slow, but it was a busy Friday night so they can be forgiven for that ;)

Yelp
So, as Micky Flanagan said, we hadn't meant to go out we'd just popped out but found ourselves drinking and then eating in the Pure bar. First the beer, always a good idea to sample the beer first. They keep a range of purity ales so no need to look any further. Really good beer, nicely served, recommend the Mad Goose. While buying the beer, I couldn't resist a portion of their home made pork scratchings (crackling really). Certain members of our group pulled a face, apparently pork scratchings are Yukky. Not these ones, they were lovely. Then the food, the menu is unusual, with some very interesting dishes. We were a bit boring, we all decided to have mini fish and chips. We also decided to try the pork pie and scotch egg because a fellow drinker told us the scotch egg was unbelievable. Pork pie - probably the best pork pie I've ever eaten and I've eaten plenty of pork pies (its amazing I'm so slim). Great crust, almost no jelly but a middle full of beautiful peppery pork. Mmmm. Scotch egg - I'm not really a fan of scotch egg, and have you ever tried dividing a scotch egg evenly between 5 people, but this was definitely a thing of beauty. Crunchy, tasty outside with a lovely soft, beautifully cooked egg in the middle. How do they do that? Mini fish and chips - not all that mini, a nice portion size. Lovely flaky fish beautifully cooked, great chips and quality mushy peas. So, well done the Pure Bar and kitchen. We will definitely be back to explore the menu.

Yelp
Wonderful Purity beer in all its glory with lashings of great freshly prepared food ideally located in the city centre . Lots of places for groups to sit or more intimate seat settings are available too . Bright modern style .

Yelp
Purity ales and the best Scotch Eggs in the world (yes, I said that). A jewel in Birmingham's casual dining and casual drinking establishments. Great.

Yelp
Purebar is a great place to go an experience new beers, they have aproximatley 40 draught beers available. For non beer drinkers they also offer spirits and a couple of wines and ciders. On this occasion we only indulged in bar snacks but I have eaten here before and again I would thoroughly recommend it.

Yelp
Amazing for my other half as he loves the beer here. I love this place, I think it attracts a younger crowd and working people. I booked a table for a Saturday night not too long ago and it was a mistake! - the place was rammed and overly loud, their were people physically touching us whilst sitting down and there was a fight at one time in the middle of the restaurant. It was mostly people standing up because all tables were full. The food is insane and quite rustic looking. I had the fish and chips which are to die for. Also when it's winter time they have homemade soups which are heaven. They do have a downstairs area which is for functions, they should open that up more for people sitting down and having meals so it's not as loud.

Yelp
This ticks all the boxes for what Birmingham has been waiting for. Once only the preserve of trendy London, hipster craft beer bars are all the range. With it's stripped back (lack of) furnishings and 14 key taps, Pure Bar really fits the part. Well known michelin starred chef Andreas Antona makes up one third of the partnership (with Purity Brewery and ex M&B Martin Hilton making up the two thirds). As you would expect the food is fantastic! And not poncey, alright it is poncey but not chasing michelin stars poncey. Many of the dishes use beer as an ingredient, putting to the forefront of one's mind the range of flavours one can find in beer (many more than in wine btw). The dishes aren't overly expensive especially for the quality and the knowledge that everything, from the pork scratchings to the ice cream is made fresh on-site. That said it's not exactly, tight budget economy fare either. Their scotch eggs have caused quite a stir on twitter, but I'm more of a sausage roll man! Many years ago I used to tell anyone that would listen "one day people will talk about hop varieties in the same way they talk about grape varieties". I believe we have now reached that stage (and not only in pretentious beer circles). I didn't however, think it all the way through. The obvious follow on is beer bars will become more like wine bars. And Pure Bar is it! It's a beer bar that isn't a dark, smelly, old, mahogany covered place with beer mats on the walls and an odour of urine seeping through the tiles. We love(ed) those pubs! It's clean, the beards are all hipsters, the majority of the clientele are often in suits, as it's become a favourite haunt for the local business district workers. Children are welcome during the day, although they don't have a kids menu. Nor any kids drinks, not even squash. So if you attend with children they will have to slum it with some 100% pressed juice from a fancy bottle. The beer list is great, but in my opinion it doesn't change regularly enough to make me want to keep going back - they keep the same beers on for months at a time. Downstairs they have an impressive tasting room and a small bar for busier evenings. I've not attended their tasting events but they look good. Again they seem to be aiming towards corporate clients with their beer & food tasting events. They may have missed a trick by not having the windows overlooking Victoria Square, although they might have decided that could be a security issue? The toilets are rather annoying with a phallic malt and the words "Malt is Sweet" on one sign and a vaginal hopcone with the words "Hops are Bitter" on the other. In the middle it says "You Decide". The hopcone is the mens' and the malt is the ladies'. Perhaps it would work better if both sides entered into one unisex toilet? Are we ready for unisex toilets in bars in Brum yet? I don't see why not. Apparently "it's quite a talking point" but I think making it difficult for people to know which way to go, only annoys them. All-in-all, James runs a fab team. The staff appear to be happy in their roles, which is so important in catering as it is such a devalued trade. The place is spotlessly clean, the service is impeccable, the quality of food and drink is high. On the negative side, it's by no means the cheapest place around and the higher end corporate clientele can give the place an air of pomposity. I would also expect that the fashionable stripped back look will go out of fashion fairly soon, thus making the place feel dated.

Yelp
Not really sure what to say about pure bar. At first I loved the place, but the initial enthusiasm has started to wane a little. First the good bits: - Large selection of beer - Excellent food - nice interior decor and the benches are great Thats the making of a good pub right there, however there are a few things that let the place down. Since they opened they had problem with the Kirkstall Dissolution on cask being over lively, this lead to it being off the majority of the time. After a few times the brew was finally on and excited to be reunited with one of my favourite Yorkshire tipples I wasted no time in ordering it. Unfortunately it tasted of ass, i forced down a third before realising it was simply not right, a glass collector came over and I mentioned it to them, they took it away and made no offer of a replacement. Upon ordering another drink the bar tender commented that they were aware that there was something wrong with it. So why serve the thing in the first place??? I suppose I should have asked for a replacement but I would have expected the venue to initiate this. As service has generally been very good in the place, I'm willing to forgive this as perhaps atypical, and for reference Kirkstal Dissolution has now apparently been replaced with Kirkstall 3 swords, another fine ale! Also for such a huge selection of ales on keg, rotation is surprisingly infrequent. I don't expect a daily tear up of the rule book but a bit more variation wouldnt go amiss. That said they do have a good selection of bottles on tap so maybe this is overly harsh. So in summary, this place is very close to being great, its probably a 3.5 star from me, so i've rounded up to 4 based on the fact they are trying to offer something different to other pubs in the city!

Yelp
I expected more from a collaboration of this calibre. Walking in to the bar it still has an unfinished quality to the décor. I understand that they are going for that industrial chic look popularised in the late '90s with NYC loft spaces, so bare concrete and exposed wiring are the order of the day, but the floor still has remnants of the old carpet adhesive which makes it feel a little unclean. Upon walking in you're faced with a large open space between the bar and kitchen as the tables and chairs are predominantly situated around the outside and this makes it feel a little cold and unwelcoming. The main space is dominated by the bar, with it's European keg beer dispense equipment: a monolithic statue to industrial plumbing in black and red. This is at a slightly inconvenient height, given that it sits entirely between the eye line of customers and staff, so crouching or tip-toes is the order of the day, unless you can grab a space at the ends of the bar. It does look fantastic, though. With 14-15 kegged beers/ciders on offer, it is a selection worthy of note, and there is a "craft" beer here to suit most palates. Personally, I'm much more of a real ale drinker, so my eye is always on the hand pulls. With a range of 4 Purity beers and 3 guest ales, there's plenty here, but with them having been the same seven beers for the last 3 months, it's disappointing that there hasn't been a wider selection. Be aware that they insist on pulling every ale through a sparkler and if, like me, you prefer it without, you my get a disapproving look as though you don't know what you're talking about, when you ask for the sparkler to be removed. The food offering is good, and I enjoyed the dunkel glazed chicken. The menu as a whole has that kind of gastropub feel (and pricing), which isn't unexpected. I've heard differing reports about portion sizes, but on my visit, there was food aplenty: so much that I'm glad I didn't additionally opt for a starter. The other thing I've noticed on visits, is that the staff seem to use a smartphone app for the ordering process, etc. This has the unfortunate effect of making it look repeatedly like they're just playing on their phones and ignoring customers, especially so, when you're trying in vain to catch their attention. All in all, not a bad first draft and it's early doors yet. There is, in my opinion, room for improvement so lets see what happens over the next few months (and years).
