If I could give 6 stars I would. This is the definition of "hidden gem" for Charleston. The places that you have to seek out...that are slightly off the beaten path end up rewarding you handsomely. Having dined at pretty much at all the usual suspects (Fig, 167 raw, XBB, R Kitchen, Tratoria Lucca, The Ordinary) I have to say that Purlieu deserves to rank among the cities best.
Everything about our experience was what a perfect dinning experience should be. From the charming interior(slightly cozy, can be loud at times) to the down to earth staff (Alexandra and Tav) to the inexpensive solid wine list and local draft beers (munkle, revelery, lofi) fires on all cylinders. Sometimes the aforementioned can make up for missteps in the food, but no need here.....The food is just as wonderful all all the supporting cast. The artichoke is standout app, the burger is better than Little Jacks, and the Roast Chicken is better than mom's(sorry mom).
I was hesitant to write this review selfishly wanting to keep this sweet slice of heaving in my back pocket. However the crew here deserve to be known and it would be a crime not to share this wonderful place with fellow holycity food lovers.
