Google
Tremendously delicious ice cream. So many people want to try custard when they come to Milwaukee, but I encourage you to check out Purple Door ice cream. Their ice cream is absolutely fantastic and there’s such a nice variety of flavors. The staff is very customer oriented and will be glad to provide you with a sample taste of any of their flavors. Staff is also great at making recommendations.

Eva A.

Google
The ice cream was delicious - I especially enjoyed the one with local cherries and the Old Fashioned flavor, and even the plain vanilla was excellent. The girls working there were very friendly, explained the flavors, and made the visit such a pleasant experience. Thank you for the great mood!

Google
Purple Door Ice Cream is amazing! One of the highlights is being able to watch the ice cream being made right through the glass window—it was such a fun and unique experience. The staff were very friendly, and the ice cream itself was high quality, not overly sweet, and generously packed with fresh ingredients. With so many flavors to choose from, every bite felt special. Just thinking about the visit brings back such a joyful memory, and I can’t wait to go again!

Google
Made Purple Door Ice Cream our last stop in the city before heading home. They offer some more untraditional flavors of hand dipped ice cream. The scoops were pretty generous. It was good ice cream, but not necessarily a place I'd say you have to go to, especially in Wisconsin where there is plenty of good ice cream everywhere you turn.

Ron E.

Google
Great ice cream and flavors. We had Door County cherry chocolate chip and salted caramel. Both were good. Plenty of free samples to decide. Gave a 5 because taste, flavors and service were all excellent. Do wish they’d let us sit inside when it’s so hot and humid.

Google
It is an excellent establishment, the service received by the employees was excellent, very courteous, friendly and super professional. I visited this place twice, their ice cream is delicious, fresh, creamy, with a good balance of flavors and sugar. With fresh tones. So if you are looking for a good ice cream, a relaxed atmosphere, don't hesitate to stop here, they are friendly to the GLBT+ community. Everyone is welcome.

Google
Delicious, creamy ice cream! They have a wide variety of flavors along with several original. We had a single scoop of Cinnamon Ice Cream in a cup and it was DELICIOUS!!! They offer several options of cones or cup! And they also sell pints and ice cream sandwiches to go. They have plenty of seating- both inside and outside - to enjoy your ice cream. Highly recommend!!!

Google
Fabulous!!! I had Door Co Cherry with dark chocolate chunks and waffle crumbs on top. Ranks as best ice cream in our books! Our family enjoys a treat of ice cream when we get together visiting our children out of state.

Yelp
I recently visited Milwaukee for the very first time. The first thing I did when I arrived in the city was embark on an 2 hour foodie walking tour. After rambling all throughout the city, the tour came to a sweet end here at Purple Door Ice Cream. Touted by our guide as the best ice cream in the city, he definitely wasn't joking. When our group arrived there were a few others in line but the staff moved everyone along very quickly. They were very patient with each the members of our tour as we all tried multiple flavors. I know I personally sampled 4 delicious flavors before settling on a cup with The Bee's Knees - there cocktail inspired flavor with gin, lemon, honey, and juniper berries. It was super tasty, creamy, and refreshing. Highly recommend this local made ice cream treat!

Yelp
I love that Purple Door is made right here in Milwaukee! They have a large variety of flavors- which are fun, creative, and unique. I've enjoyed the Butter Pecan and the Brandy Old Fashioned. Only complaint is parking can be tough. And during the summer, I was sitting outside with my husband enjoying our icecream and we had to leave because of some unwanted people who were harassing customers, so we finished the icecream in our car. It was unfortunate and took away from the overall experience.
google avatar

Steffy W.

Yelp
Servers were super patient and nice as we tried multiple flavors. Their icecream are over the top flavorful. Try the Bee's Knees. One of the best for sure!! Service size are HUUUUGE so be warned when you decide to order a double scoop.
google avatar

Liv L.

Yelp
Love their variety of flavors- they have so many fun options including boozy ice creams! I got a pint of milk and cookies which was so good! It literally tasted like a chocolate chip cookie dunked in milk! They use local ingredients too which is super cool! Will be back to try more flavors!

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite ice cream place in all of Milwaukee. Without a doubt, the only flavor I get every time is their salted caramel ice cream. It is so smooth and decadent. It's an absolute must to get it in a waffle cone, which they make fresh right in front of you at times. They also have so many other varieties of flavors, including vegan choices. You can also go to the freezers and take home pints and ice cream sandwiches if you so choose. This place is usually packed up nicely and perfect on a summer night. A must stop in Milwaukee.
google avatar

Conrad L.

Yelp
Great local ice cream shop. Ice cream was creamy and had great flavors. Flavors here were really strong which was nice. Cucumber lime sorbet was very cucumber forward with punch of lime. The lemon cardamom was very strongly flavored. I went with the road gravel which was caramel ice cream with cookie pieces, peanuts and chocolate chips. It reminded me of a snickers bar. Ice cream has a great mouth feel with good flavors. Scoop sizes are quite generous and I was satisfied with a kiddie scoop. Parking is street parking which wasn't an issue on the weekend.
google avatar

Rebecca F.

Yelp
A top spot for specialty ice cream shops in Milwaukee. It's walking distance from the key points in downtown. Flavors change and are subject to availability Tried the road gravel, malted chocolate chunk, and mint chip. They didn't try to skimp on amount, so can appreciate getting my penny's worth. The ones with chips had solid chips not the kind that will easily melt away in your mouth. Their ice cream is hardy and very creamy. They have the typical classic flavors but also unique booze flavored ones. Room for improvement: Their menu and what they have on social media doesn't always match what they actually have. They could take of their seating inside a little better. One of the bar stools are loose. Would be great if tables would wiped down more frequently. It is pretty expensive for ice cream, on par with other specialty ice cream shops but man you know you are not getting a good deal.
google avatar

Yelp
Paige, Naviyah, Leo, and Annie were so friendly, fast, and helpful! They didn't get mad or impatient with me for any of my questions or samplings. I got Milk & Cookies flavor in a sundae with hot fudge and caramel for about 7 bucks. It was delicious! There are a few tables to sit at outside as well. It was quite busy but nobody's in a bad mood when they're about to eat ice cream, and the line went fast!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Great ideas with different flavors! The salted caramel was almost too sweet but at least it had flavor, the one i was excited to try was the sunflower seed and honey but was left searching for flavor of any kind :( the smell of the homemade waffle cones excite you when you walk in the door-so i had to try one, it was quite good. A fun little spot the employees were super nice but wouldn't go back
google avatar

Yelp
TLDR - Purple Door is such an amazing locally and small owned business. You can get the light, floating scent of waffle cones hovering in the air as soon as you walk in. The flavor list is creative and the staff is always so delightful. I have gotten so many different scoops there and I really love their small tub of mini ice cream sandwiches They also in years past hosted a really fun flavor creation contest that even lead to the winners being permanent flavors featured and the mini scoops and helping to vote was so incredible! Salted Carmel has always been my go to but I see salted honey that I will probably do a half and half the next time I go.
google avatar

Bree W.

Yelp
Such creative flavors. Although busy and backed up, the staff remained calm and kept a steady pace to keep the flow going. Salted Carmel ice cream (with extra Carmel topping)in the fresh made waffle cone. Very great choice.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Solid ice cream and would rec the Salted Caramel! Just nothing overly special and felt like most of the flavors I tried were fairly average. I would say this is a top-mid tier place for me. They do have a lot of flavors available which was neat, and based off their website it seems like they have a whole ton of flavors in their arsenal. Being from the south, something I noticed that is normalized in the midwest is upcharging to split 1 scoop into two flavors. Not a big fan of that but it is what it is. Street parking is available
google avatar

Tarik B.

Yelp
Cool flavor concepts the kids loved it I liked the mini flight four flavors tiny cones on top! We ate it too fast to get a photo!
google avatar

Celeste M.

Yelp
Sugar Cone with Raspberry Choc Chip. Only 4.75. Affordable in these times. Gave me a huge scoop. Was pretty good and they had some vegan options as well as a lot of other flavors. Cute interior with lots of pints to buy too which is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Yelp reviews brought us in and Purple Door didn't disappoint! Expect to wait a bit, it's clearly popular. But the wait was worth it! Delicious ice cream. I enjoyed a scoop of their sweet corn ice cream. Local tip: Purple Door is near the Milwaukee River Boat Launch (600 S Water St) which is the best place in MKE to view the Hoan Bridge lights. We drove our ice cream over there to park and enjoy the lights and dessert.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Has a taste for ice cream. I Yelp any ice cream place near Potawomi Casino and this ice cream place was the closest. It was a small restaurant and indoor seating wasn't available. We have to eat outsude. We tried to banana split but it wasn't available on weekday only weekend. So order raspberry sorbet and other ice cream. One scoop ice cream is pretty big. The staff and services is good.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
This place is open later than other ice cream parlors in Milwaukee. The ice cream is very creamy and flavorful.
google avatar

ALice A.

Yelp
Finally got to try Purple Door! Stopped by on a rainy day and didn't have to wait in line. Staff were super friendly and sweet. I sampled the raspberry sorbet which was very refreshing. We got a Salted Vanilla Bean in a waffle cone and Salted Caramel in a cup. Both were equally delicious and super rich in flavor. I would recommend paying the extra $1.60 for the waffle cone! Made fresh daily! They were really generous with my 1 scoop of ice cream in my waffle cone. Easily shareable for two. This place is small and can get packed quickly. Lots of street parking depending on the time of the day you are there.
google avatar

Greg W.

Yelp
After looking at all the unique flavors on their website I was really excited to come check them out! Unfortunately, they only have a handful of the advertised flavors available at a given time and none of them were the ones I wanted to try. The shop is small, but cute with a few indoor and patio seats. The staff was very friendly and more than happy to answer questions and let me try a flavor I was waffling on. The best thing about the shop was their "mini flight" option since I love to try a bunch of things and not hate myself afterwards. You can get 4 adorable mini-sugar cones but we didn't need all that so opted for just one. The ice cream itself is pretty good but I don't think I'd go out of my way to get it unless they had one of their "exotic" flavors on tap (like Malort).
google avatar

Kathryn B.

Yelp
This place is as great as the other reviews say! We were only visiting Wisconsin for one day and wanted a good ice cream place. This ice cream did not disappoint! Their waffle cones are made fresh and are so delicious. The service was superb! They were so friendly and helpful. There not much seating inside but there are tables and benches outside. All of us had a lovely time and throughly enjoyed our ice cream! I would recommend it and we would definitely come back.
google avatar

Ines D.

Yelp
This ice cream had my tummy tossing and turning after & that's exactly how you know it's good. Solid ice cream. Would come back !
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Great and friendly service. Cute location. I ended up buying a pint of purple moon! It was delicious and I can't say I've ever had a sorbet like this. It was a flavor explosion in your mouth. I got lemon, then berry, then almond cookie. It was amazing! I only wish they had it available in scooped ice cream or more DF/gf flavors in scooped ice cream because we stopped before a hockey game and ended up tossing most of the pint just because of time and it was too much for one person to eat. We'll be back though and are excited to try new flavors.
google avatar

Franco M.

Yelp
Great ice cream, tastes freshly made with quality ingredients. I Always go there when I'm in the neighborhood. Friendly staff, You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Jennifer Q.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with family when I passed my road test. We had gotten dinner & came to get ice cream for dessert. I got the salted caramel ice cream with caramel syrup on top. My grandma got a chocolate ice cream cone & my aunt & uncle shared a sundae. Very big ice cream scoops!
google avatar

Goose R.

Yelp
Went here with friends. They had 2 vegan flavors and a sorbet. Staff is knowledgeable, they told us right away which flavors are vegan and which cones were vegan as well. They also told us right away that their house made waffle cone was not vegan which is always appreciated. Available flavors at the time were coffee and dark chocolate and the cucumber like sorbet. We went for the dark chocolate which it was good. Single scoop is huge. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Antony A.

Yelp
As soon as we entered, server was ecstatic to let us try every flavor. All the ice cream was home made and super good. Very creamy. All flavors were amazing. It was hard to choose. If you love ice cream you have to come here. Place is a little small, but I'm from New York so I'm used to it.

Emmaya E.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream! The honey lavender and the berry one were so good. Whenever in Milwaukee we will definitely come back to try purple door again, it's a cute little ice cream shop. The line was long on a Monday night, but that's expected because there's not many ice cream places in Milwaukee. But I loved the experience and the ice cream and would love to come back.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Misleading website. Arrived excited to try their vegan flavors, only to find out they only have one available at a time.

Annie L.

Yelp
I was in the area to visit another business and popped in for a try. What a treat! I had the whiskey ice cream which was delicious! The guys behind the counter were friendly and very helpful. The inside was easy to navigate and the seating outside gave me a chance to enjoy my ice cream while enjoying the area. I'll definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Helen H.

Yelp
The employee was friendly. I sampled several flavors before going with the espresso using Anodyne Coffee Roasters. I enjoyed the creamy scoop. Their ice cream can also be found in stores I've seen around Milwaukee.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
We love purple door! I visited with my boyfriend on a hot summer night after volleyball at a nearby bar. The line was out the door, so we knew it was a popular spot! The service is impeccable, they move the line very quickly while being kind and offering samples of their many flavors of ice cream. We returned a few weeks later to pick up a custom-ordered birthday cake, and the person behind the counter made my birthday even better by giving ample samples of flavor pairings he had tried. I ended up buying 3 more cartons of ice cream because the spiced pear sorbet and salted honey flavor pairing was THAT GOOD! I only buy purple door ice cream now, as the flavor and taste is unmatched. You can tell they create their ice cream with care. And, it's nice to support a local business!
google avatar

Allie C.

Yelp
I want to support a local ice cream shop however this is the worst chocolate malt of my life
google avatar

Xiomary S.

Yelp
Road Gravel - creamy caramel-based ice cream with peanuts, chocolate cookie pieces and chocolate chips. In a waffle cone because DUH! A single scoop is massive and will leave you fully satisfied. You can split a single scoop with two flavors which is a great options if you like options. It's fresh, locally made, classic and creative flavors. They are typically super busy all summer and on weekends. If you don't want a line situation go on a random weekday off season. The place is small and cozy, and smell deliciously sweet the moment you want through the doors. The staff is quick and friendly.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Had to snag an ice cream on National Ice Cream Day! Well worth the wait at Purple Door. I loved the inventive flavors but settled on classic mint chip. Super great texture and really straightforward mint taste (nothing artificial at all!). The waffle cone was great too - didn't get soggy and had a nice vanilla taste.

Tracey P.

Yelp
Came a few times this trip and all of the flavors were delicious. Highly recommend the whiskey flavor but we also tried the vanilla bean, chocolate, chocolate chip, and state fair cream puff. Single scoops are ample but the kiddie size works great for an adult as well
google avatar

Colter H.

Yelp
Really solid ice cream. Tons of unique flavors, huge scoops, and excellent waffle cones. Try the Mexican Chocolate and Brandy Old Fashioned!
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
The flavors don't taste like what they look like but are still enjoyable. I got a single split with purple moon and mountaintop cold brew blackberry chip. Highly recommend purple moon - it tastes like some berry mixed with pistachio? I wouldn't get mountaintop again just because it tasted so strongly like a cold brew.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
My husband would like the world (internet) to know there's a difference between a malt and a milkshake, because his wife had no idea... lol! On my way home from a meeting, he called with an craving and lo and behold there I was driving by our favorite ice cream parlor, purple door! I quickly popped in, and dang does that waffle cone smell hit you hard (in the best way) every time you enter the building. Two sweet guys were working behind the counter and assured me that there is indeed a difference between a malt and a milkshake. Apparently malted milk powder is the winning ingredient my husband was looking for. I ordered a classic chocolate malt, and within one minute it was in my hands ready to go. Oh and I of course could not resist the cute mini cup of vegan dark chocolate on display in the freezer. I just HAD to because they make the best dairy-free ice cream in town, I promise you that. Consider this your friendly reminder that ice cream (and malts) are a good idea no matter what time of year it is!
google avatar

George V.

Yelp
Wow! So tasty. Can't wait to visit again. The flavor choices were outstanding and numerous.
google avatar

Samantha R.

Yelp
Purple Door was always cool, but throughout the pandemic it's been a reassurance. That however crazy things have gotten there's still ice cream. In the summer and warm-ish months it's nice to sit outside and enjoy your chosen treat. I like how the flavor selection changes frequently enough to be interesting. There's usually a "different" flavor or two available, like balsamic strawberry or rum punch sorbet. I like to get a single split so I can try two flavors. Today I got a perfect combo for the transitional October weather--pumpkin spice and blackberry quark. The pumpkin spice was nice but blackberry quark is one of my favorite ice cream flavors ever. I get it whenever it's on the menu.
google avatar

Mariana B.

Yelp
It has a lot of marketing in this place, I saw a lot of good reviews, but it is just a ice cream store. A lot of people waiting in line, staff are very friendly. You can taste 2 flavors only, they change the flavors constantly and it is just a ok ice cream.
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
This place had a really crazy line but I'm visiting so I wanted to wait. I enjoyed it. I got the road ice cream, blanking on the exact name. Caramel ice cream base with lots of mix ins. Liked it a lot! Average price for ice cream. Kiddie was just enough. I could see why it has a line!
google avatar

Lauren U.

Yelp
Purple Door is so consistent in their creamy, unique flavors of ice cream. My absolute favorite thing about this place is the ice cream flights! They have full flights including a scoop of four flavors of your choice, or a smaller option with half scoops of four flavors. I always make the mistake of forgetting how much four scoops really is! It's a great way to get to try new flavors and enjoy your classic favorites as well. Parking here on the street is relatively stress-free, and you can do some people watching when you sit inside. A great place to enjoy part of the day!
google avatar

Ron D.

Yelp
One of the 2 local favorite and beloved ice cream shop in MKE. Came buy to check it out and boy line was long during that early evening. I decided to go for a lite dessert and tried their cucumber lime sorbet . It was refreshingly good and cleanses the palate after the hearty dinner meal. I like it a lot. Other local flavor they have and popular ones are the Wisconsin Brandy Old fashion and the Road Gravel. They also have the coffee flavored mount cold brew raspberry , lemon cardamom, blueberry buttermilk . Ice cream shop also sells souvenirs like bags, shirt and bag. I would love to try their unique flavor beer and pretzel next time. A must try when in MKE.
google avatar

Hien D.

Yelp
Purple Door ice cream does not only have great homemade ice cream but their employees and service goes above and beyond. The location is in a prime location in the third ward/walkers point where parking is fairly accessible. In terms of the ice cream, it's soooo yummy. I am not a huge sweets gal but after sampling all of the flavors, it has quickly become one of my favorite ice cream place in milwaukee. I highly recommend going to this place. The service is 10/10. All the workers there are so friendly, knowledgeable and just overwhelmingly sweet. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Deb L.

Yelp
Ordered a to go chocolate shake at $7 (approximately) and it was the consistency of chocolate milk! I emailed Purple Door about my horrible experience, but never received a response. It was not a hot day, so melting was not the problem. While I love their ice cream, I will not be purchasing Purple Door products in the future given their failure to attempt to make it right.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Decided to do ice cream for dinner and after rave reviews wanted to give purple door a try. I'm so glad I did. The staff was so kind and helpful. The flavors were unique yet also combos I didn't know I needed but now never want to live without. Point and case -- cold brew blackberry chip. Get an ice cream flight if you go here!
google avatar

Vikki Y.

Yelp
Got to try this place thanks to Yelp! I've heard of Purple Door Ice Cream and I've always been curious about this place because of the fresh local ingredients and artisanal ice cream! Here's the scoop! Hehe You walk in and they have samples of all sorts of yummy flavors! I was most curious about the vegan purple dream and the anodyne coffee ice cream (aka the Mountaintop cold brew blackberry chip)! I didn't love the purple dream flavor but the coffee ice cream was so delicious I bought a pint to bring home. My guest tried the lemon cardamom and thought the flavor was different but unique. My guest loved the orange cake flavor which was very tasty! I opted for the raspberry and picked out a regular cake cone. They also offer sugar cone, waffle cone and even a gluten free option. They sell pints so I also picked up some traditional mint chip to try. It's hard to pick a flavor-ite because everything was fun and different! The portions are huge and the store smelled amazing! The staff was super friendly as well! How sweet!

DeDe W.

Yelp
Our family was in the store while we were parking. The door was locked because it was 8:01pm. Our daughter opened the door for us but the guy behind the counter refused to take any more orders. So, 3 of us got ice cream. He said it was after 8 the store was closed. But, he did take the money owed even though it was after 8! The server is obviously not the owner!
