We went for the Girl-Improv. Great price, fun laughs. I was a little disappointed as it took a whole week to get a response about the age requirements, but it was worth it. I took my 18 yr old nephew and he enjoyed it as well.

Been coming to push for around five years now and when I tell you this charming little place has deeply woven it's way into my life in facets I never expected. Let me tell my story... I was a performer my entire life in theatre and music. When I was 19 - I had my first stroke and I learned that I was born with a genetic condition that will cause my muscles, joints, bones, and organs to deteriorate for the rest of my life. I thought that's it, I'm done. Nobody will watch the sad sick girl on a stage. Here's where push comes in. I was called up for audience participation at Unusual Suspects (go see it), their murder mystery improv show. I made some silly joke and the audience laughed. A switch turned back on in my brain. I realized I CAN still do this. I immediately signed up for improv 101 class with Brad! And what i found there was AMAZING, unyielding support for performers and artists of every level, passion, and from every walk of life. Co-owner and Improv teacher Brad teaches the motto that everyone at push has "got your back" and he doesn't just tell you. He shows you. The culture created around this one phrase is genuine and real and in all honesty -Brad, Push, and everyone involved with this place CHANGED MY LIFE. So go see a show here (you can't beat a night of laughs for $5-$15), join a class, come get involved. You will not regret it. You may just find your life changed for the better

My husband and I have come twice. 1) Pushing Dragons: amazingly fun and interactive. 2) Unusual Suspects/Murder Mystery: I was in tears laughing basically the entire time. We 1000% recommend and we plan on coming more often.

I’ve been coming to shows and been apart of this wonderful community for 3 years and I can say that Push Comedy Theater is like no other! When I started taking classes I was immediately accepted for who I was and I’ve made wonderful friendships over the years! One thing that separates this theater from others in the area is 2 phrases; “make your partner look good” and “I’ve got you back”. Immediately when I began taking classes I knew I was in a safe space to fail without ridicule and to succeed with my partners by my side! Some of my best friends today are the people that I met through Push! Every time I come to see a show, I’m almost peeing my pants in laughter! You can tell that everyone on stage is passionate about one thing.. making people laugh! There is a reason why this place has been open for 14+ years. Shout out to Brad and Sean for making this a safe space of creative talent! AHHHH! this place is amazing!! i went to ‘date night ‘ last night on a date 😉 and it was one of the best experiences ever! i highly recommend grabbing your ‘date’ or anyone and going to check it out ! i laughed the majority of the time ! brad and courtney are amazing!!!! ✨ 19/10 will be back!

Last night, I attended a couple of performances at this venue. It was so much fun! The entire audience, ALL OF US, were losing our minds at some points during the performance! It was that kind of laughter that when the show was over, you felt like you were in a different place altogether! The performers really cared about what they were doing and the owners/stakeholders were right there on site ensuring that everything was just right. If you are looking for robust belly laughs and good times with some really good people, PUSH is The place to be.

For the inappropriate one star review - My wife and I met at Push Comedy. I have been in love with it for six years now. My wife takes classes there, and the environment is very safe. There was a disturbance at the theatre where Brad put himself between him and the students. He asked students to go to the back for safety. The shows are amazing. I love Unusual Suspects and D&D night. Go for a laugh, a date, etc. Amazing and silly cast.

I took the improv 101 class here and really enjoyed it. The instructors and staff were all very supportive. I feel like I came away with a solid foundation I can use to build on for future improv classes I take. You also get discounts to shows as a student. I laughed so much and Tuesdays became a day to look forward to for a couple of weeks! Highly recommend the class for anyone wanting to build confidence and improve their communication skills.

Push Comedy served up Lemon Pepper and Sazón, Loud, Proud and Seasoned on February 17 2023. As soon as I saw the event pop up on yelp, I grabbed the tickets. Showtime was at 8pm, we arrived at 10 till and the house was packed and the energy was live. The cast and comedians were greeting everyone as they entered, getting us excited and making us feel appreciated and welcome in their space. What an exciting way to celebrate Black History and support Local artist/business. The show was amazing. We got to delight in short skits, stand-up comedy and improv style games. Upon entering everyone who came to enjoy the show received a raffle ticket. Cue audience participation. "Name that Black Theme Song," I lived for every participant as they were thrown into the hot seat, unexpectedly winning even when they couldn't' name that song, and dominating when they did. Raffle prizes were from Local businesses (POC owned I believe) , honestly a win for us all because it was so entertaining. For our comfort the concession box was open the duration of the show. Two well tended bathrooms in the back and although the seating was pretty close, everyone was kind and polite when needing to get up for drinks or a tinkle. Most of all I was in awe of all the talent, on and off stage. I was elated to watch on of our own Yelp Elite Squad members work the stage and the crowd with ease. Push Comedy blesses the Vibe District with so much culture and community.

First time at Push! This is a very affordable spot to go and have good laughs. I visited Push to support my friend very first on stage performance. There isn't much of a waiting area between shows, or seating for that matter. However, once you enter the actual show room, there are chairs, concessions and bathrooms. There is limited adult beverages, but they are there. There is nothing fancy about the food, however for $5 entry, I didn't come for food.

The cast was really funny. it was like a " Whose Line is it Anyway" type show. We Laughed a lot and had a great time!

I've been in the area nearly three years and have never been here until last night. We wanted something to do after dinner and they were doing a couples shows. We figured why not?! The price was super affordable. We do like a good comedy show. My first impression is of the outside area. It's right in the neon district of Norfolk and the lights and the art are very intriguing. Great place for photography. My boyfriend and I were welcomed in and given the tour. Everyone was very friendly. The show was "Sketchmeggadon". It was BRILLIANT. I have t laughed that much at a show before. It really was a fabulous time. I couldn't stop talking about it. I will probably be going every weekend now! Such a great time. They have drinks and they have snacks, hot dogs. The snack area is what they call the "Weiner Hole". Ha! So silly. Gotta love it. I highly recommend you go here!

Hired for a corporate workshop for a Sunday morning of a weekend retreat. Participants groaned going to the workshop (they didn't know what the workshop would be) they left laughing and asking when they could do more. Well done!

I feel like it's appropriate to write my 500th review about a place that's pretty special to me. I started doing Improv Comedy as a hobby two years ago as a creative outlet to alleviate stress from work. A little over a year ago, I wanted to learn more so I decided to enroll in Improv 101 with The Pushers and I'm so happy I did. My teacher for Improv 101, Brad (who is one of The Pushers), has been vital in showing me the art of Improv, stage presence, and how to make your scene partner look good. I loved it so much that I decided to also take Improv 201 and 301 which really breaks down the structure of how to perform a successful improv set. I also plan on taking Improv 401 and 501 in the future. Moreover, all of The Pushers are really great teachers. In addition, after you get your feet wet and have taken a class, there are several opportunities that are provided for students to perform on the Push Comedy Theater stage in front of a public audience. It's pretty fun and gives you the opportunity to do something out of your comfort zone. I've had the opportunity to perform countless times and each time honestly feels better than the last. All in all, through taking improv classes at Push Comedy Theater I've met tons of wonderful people, sharpened my communication skills, and have become a lot more confident in performing for audiences on stage. The Pushers are great people.

I visited Push for the BHM show featuring Lemon Pepper Sazon. It was amazing. The cast members did improv, scripted skits and featured local comedians. The show was so good! I didn't know what to expect, but I was thoroughly impressed from the production to the snack bar!

Push is always coming out with new and creative shows! You can take improv or other comedy classes here, too! They even have classes for kids and teens! You can't find a better spot for a night out. Great atmosphere and great people! Even if you come alone, you will always make friends! They sell wine and beer on draft and even have special drinks for different shows. Definitely check this place out!

Visited push comedy theater for the first time to watch girl prov and they didn't disappoint. I appreciated the laughs and variety. Excited to go back for another show.

Push Comedy is one of my favorite places in Norfolk. It's right on Granby so there are tons of Things around as far as eateries and places to drink. They serve beer and snacks inside so that you can eat, drink and be merry during the shows and the classes are amazing. I've been apart of the theatre since late 2017, early 2018 and I love the community. They make you feel welcome and get you involved in the audience even if it's your first show and there is ALWAYS something going on. Not to mention the shows are HILARIOUS. They also host free shows as well.

The D&D comedy show was SO FUNNY! Loved the cast and crew. Will be back when I'm in town

Pretty fun place. Attended the 8th anniversary of The Unusual Suspects. There was a lot of audience participation and it seems like the majority of the people were regulars. The building is pretty run down and it doesn't seem like much as been done with the place.

I took classes here and they are way overcrowded for the price which is high. I had a problem with the amount trauma dumping that was allowed in teams and i classes as they have no clear guidelines or rules for what it is allowed in class and what isn't. i complained to HR about the trauma dumping and was told it is not HR issue and it was dropped. so I quit going to the theatre and taking classes. a couple days ago i posted something on my private personal Facebook that said I don't like trauma dumping in places where there are no mental health professionals. the owner somehow saw my post on my private personal Facebook page that had no mention of his business in it and got upset and decided to publicly banish me permentantly from here even though I'm not going but he didn't contact me to tell me he posted it on a private Facebook social group that has 700 people in it some of whom I know personally and slandered my name publicly. he knew I would find out because he knew people would screen shot and send it to me which they did. I would not take classes here because they are overcrowded in talking 24 people in a 6 week improv class overcrowded and the owner is kind of mean and definitely unprofessional

I wanted so badly to like this place, but it was just awful. I love to support community theater and local arts. I don't mind that the place is small and a little rundown. I don't mind that the costumes were seriously lacking, and the props were non-existent, but this Unusual Suspects show was so raunchy and boring. They relied on vulgarity to get laughs, as well as constant opportunities to glimpse male genitalia (not exaggerating), and it just wasn't funny. I wouldn't recommend it for any age group, much less the 13 year olds that their voicemail recording says their 8pm shows are typically suitable for. I realize that some people love this kind of stuff, and more power to them. The only reason that I'm writing a review, which I never do, is because parents and anyone looking for even remotely clean humor should be warned. Also, just to be clear, I wasn't offended. It was just gross and unfunny, neither of which would I pay to see. I hope they get better.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Husband and I bought a couple of tickets for the 13th. They'd said doors open at 7 pm, show starts at 8 pm. We arrived at 7:40 pm. Not a soul in sight. Completely dark. No "Show canceled" on the posters advertising the show that night. We called, but no answer. This place is a sham. Took our hundred bucks shamelessly. We paid for a night of comedy, but the joke was on us.

What an awesome place to have in downtown Norfolk!! My husband and I have heard of the Push Comedy Theater through some friends who have taken improv classes there. We didn't quite know what to expect, but we had the opportunity to see a friend perform at the March Madness 3 on 3 Improv Tournament. Tickets were only $5 each (a steal, in my opinion) and they can be purchased online. There is parking on the street and a parking lot in the back, but we decided to Uber. Show started at 8pm, so we got drinks at Work Release next door (which I HIGHLY recommend since their happy hour specials are AMAZING.) After a drink, we headed back to Push to grab seats. The check-in process was super easy; if you pre-ordered tickets, they already had you in the system. The theater is a 99-seat venue with a small stage, high ceilings and intimately lit. They do have snacks (hot dogs, candy, and chips) and cheap and local beer for sale at the "Wiener Hole". We recommend you bring cash to make the transaction easier. Try to be early to the event so you won't get heckled as you come through the door! The show was so much fun and it was awesome to watch all the talented performers. It is so impressive to watch people doing what they love and having the time of their lives. Every Friday since the first 3 on 3 Improv Show, we have returned to cheer on our beloved group "The Catnips"! It has become our new Friday hangout spot and we even told friends to join us! We will be back to see the FINAL showdown on Friday, April 1st. I am really glad to see that the NEON arts district is blooming into a much-needed and refreshing part of Downtown Norfolk.

Noticed the theater when leaving The Beauty Shop and was intrigued. Sunday afternoon Seniors Improv eh? So glad I came. A Sunday afternoon laughing like I was outside!!! What's not to love.

Awesome awesome awesome. We have gone here several times and we cannot say enough great things about this place and the people in it. The staff is so amazing and so funny. We go every couple of weeks and my husband and daughter will be taking an improv class. Give it a try it's sooooo funny.

I love the Push Comedy Theater! It's a fun, welcoming place and the food and drinks are very reasonable. One of the best and cheap date nights in town!

This is a review of their Corporate Training program. It was a three hour class; and it was amazing how comfortable everyone was. Our group is comprised of a lot of self-proclaimed introverts. So, when I say that we're not professional comedians, I'm totally serious. Our host was not only great at instruction, but amazing at finding funny in the mundane. Something that might've been humorous, he was great at pointing out where you could take it, how to make it even funnier. I don't want to give away the premise (you should sign up your group) but we came away with three very valuable and immediately applicable points. If you're looking for a unique team building event, I highly recommend coming to the Push comedy theater. Definitely makes me want to come back and take classes. As good as it gets.

This is long overdue, my wife and I wanted to find something to do after dinner and this filled the billet. Great performance saw campfire tales and it was amazing. Very talented crew. Found out that night what the Neon district was and I was very surprised. Great experience all around and staff was more than helpful.

I came here for an improv show night with a friend. On the outside the place looks small but inside is a nice stage with a decent amount of seating. The improv show we went to was hilarious, and as a plus they serve food and drinks and at a concession stand during the shows. The house staff checking people in was very friendly as well. I noticed on the website they offer improv classes if I lived in the area I would definitely take some as a fun hobby. Several of the teachers of these classes were in the improv show I went to and I think they are really talented. The tickets and price for food and drinks was very reasonable. This is not something you should pass up if you are in the area.

Went to see "The Pushers Unscripted" at Push Comedy Theater for the first time ever on 3/6/2015 with a friend. We didnt know what to expect, but glad we came out. For $5/ticket, you can't beat the price. The improv comedy was fantastic and hilarious. This is definitely, my go to place now if I want to check out some improv comedy. It is a nice little break from your stand-up comedy you see around here. I love comedy of all types. Never really attended an improv before and this being my first, it left me with an overly, excited lasting impression of IMPROV. I will be coming back! They had a concession stand with snacks. The staff were friendly. Conveniently located on Grandy St. The atmosphere was fantastic and laid-back but cool and open.

Went to the Summer Sampler Improv show and it was a blast! It was our first time coming to the Push Comedy Theater and we didn't stop laughing. The ticket prices are cheap and it makes the experience even better! Highly recommend!

If you don't find life funny, this isn't the place for you...just a bunch of hilarious comedians doing improv on stage in front of an audience who is laughing their asses off. I mean really, you could be sitting at home in your boring house out of toilet paper, rather than sharing a row with new friends, drinking the latest Smartmouth on tap, and calling out the next improv theme word.

It was very cool. Sometimes different for a night out. They need more of a selection of alcohol but other than that it was very cool. My wife and I really enjoyed the comity

My favorite place in town. So much laughter and everyone has become my second family! They have everything from stand up and improv to classes for all ages! The owners are awesome! The Wiener Hole has 6 beers on tap, hot dogs and snacks! Come check it out! There is something for everyone! You might just find a new hobby!

Went here twice. The first time was storytelling on theme which when I went was betrayal and trust as it was during Ides of March week. I didn't know what to expect as tix was $5. However, I was impressed by the show, 6 great performers telling their hearts and showing their emotions while making the sad stories somehow very hilarious. Went on a 2nd date to an improv competition. Not as good as the storytelling as some groups weren't that funny (at one time the music next door's bar when a not-so-funny group got me thinking of leaving to join it lol). Maybe it's luck of the draw that I didn't get good improv groups. I see a lot of potential in this place and it may not be $5 per show in the near future. It's good entertainment to bring a date or friends.

Whenever I am feeling low...this is the place to go! Always a good time and always a good laugh. There is limited parking so get here early. It's best to purchase tix online as shows do sell out.

Well, it's worth 5 bucks. After watching a bunch of spoiled kids attempt comedy, it's worth 5 bucks. Small town comedy joint with a few under appreciated talents. The headliners are terrible as expected. The owners clearly haven't left their corner of the world. For the few talents, hope they leave soon.

My wife and I came here for a fun night and were not dissapointed! We had a blast. Nice environment and energy. Good beer too!!

I always recommend this theater! The improv actor are hilarious and interactive and always have different shows going on. My favorite is Riot After Dark at the end of each month. They have a handful of beer on tap which is also great. It's a really fun experience for typically $5-$10.

Went to their first show in their first new studio last night - super funny - like I came in thinking this is going to suck - but guess what it totally didn't - comfortable atmosphere - affordable drinks and food - and two blocks away- will be back!

Teaching comedy is like teaching someone how to breathe. You either got it or you don't. I signed up, went to one class, and realized I do not "get" their style of comedy. I'm all for fart jokes, but not ones that cross the line and poke fun at people with gastrointestinal diseases. It might be fun to go to one of their performances on acid or something in the future, but it might be more frightening than funny.

Great group of generous, funny people! I cannot wait to watch this theater grow and to be a part of it is even better!

The entertainment is guaranteed to make you happy. The theater is gorgeous, and there's a great beer selection! And if you like hot dogs, this is the place for you! What more could you want?

A group of us attended the The Made Up Movie on Jan. 6, 2016 for my daughter's birthday. It was ridiculous. We left after the first half. So disappointed.

I was looking for kid friendly comedy for my son. I google and found out about this place. I was a little nervous about the parking since the address was Granby Street but I had no problem finding a place to park. The theater was small but not stuffy. We watched kids perform improv and it was really good. I'd like to come back and see what the adult shows are like.

For Norfolk Virginia, the Push Comedy Theater is right on time! This place is great for a fantastic evening out! I am very excited for all that this theater has to offer, and according to their list of classes there's something for just about everyone! Most likely the weekend shows, unless otherwise stated, are for adults only, so get a babysitter and have a great night of immature fun! So glad this venue is here!!!!

Loves this place. We have made it a regular outing with friends. Great humor, great staff/owners/comedians. Hoping for a few more beer options in the future... but really no big deal. Support local, try this out and you will have fun!

The Wiener Hole.....has everything you would want. Hotodgs, Natty Ice, cider and good quickly brewskies. This fine dining establishment even throws in a little entertainment on the side. Ed, Shawn, Brad, & Alba will have you laughing so hard you might just very well spit take your delicious beverage. Local comedy group poking fun at the 757 (Mermaid Handshake anyone???) , highly recommended for Girls Nights, Date Nights, Guys Nights.....f*ck all types of Nights! Get there and show some love to the locally own, locally run, sketch comedy and inprov group The Pushers.

Had SUCH a great time last night at the Push Comedy Theater. Husband and I went on a whim for the first time and will absolutely return again with friends in tow. It's a unique and affordable way to do something fun and out of the ordinary. Truly a hidden gem in Norfolk. The show was absolutely hysterical and all performers were like seasoned pros-- even the newbies who performed for the first time last night in front of an audience. Keep up the great work, Pushers!

We just saw "Panties in a Twist" and had one the best belly laughes ever! Perfect venue! If you haven't been, you are missing out!!!

Went to the theater for their opening night. Admittedly, I've been a long time fan of the Pushers, but I was blown away by their new space. The inside is really well decorated and very welcoming. Drink prices were reasonable and the staff was incredibly courteous.

this was such a waste of money and time , It was like middle school theater class . Such random nonsense and no actual story line to follow . HORRIBLE

Absolute worse service I've ever received. Was graduation night for a friend of ours and had him buy our tickets early. We were a few minutes late showing up and upon entering were told that they were at capacity, told them we already had seats/tickets and were told that our seats have been sold and they could only offer us a refund since they were at capacity. Spoke to the manager and he said the same thing! We didn't want a refund since the only reason we were there was to see our friend graduate. Found out after the show that our seats were in fact empty the entire time. How can a place sell seats that were already paid for no matter how late we were and for a graduation nonetheless!!!

My Husband and I attended the opening show on Friday night and Saturday night. Both shows were hysterical! The theater itself was very comfortable with a welcoming atmosphere. Congratulations on the opening of your new theater and we will be back!
