"Q39 is one of the few cloth-napkin BBQ places where you can still go feral on every last piece of meat. Get yourself an order of burnt ends or a platter where you can try some spare ribs, brisket, and chipotle sausage. Their sauces are standouts: pick between their original—sweet and apricot molasses-based—and their zesty sauce with apple cider vinegar for some tang. The grilled salmon salad and salmon dip are also excellent, as are their onion straws." - Ryan Bernsten

We went for a Father's Day dinner and it was amazing. The food is great. Food portions are large too. The service is friendly. The indoor seating area seems to be a bit crowded and it's hard to even listen to conversations on the table or what the server is even asking. So it can be a bit better but overall a great place with some delicious BBQ. They do have some vegetarian options too.

Always a pleasure to eat at this establishment!! Great food and service! Never have to wait long to get food even If it's busy. They have bee hives on the roof. The company that harvests it, sells back to Q39 and they use in drinks and sauces. Great atmosphere, did I mention the Food ROCKS!!!

One of my favorite spots in KC for bbq. Family feeling as you walk into the door. The smells and sights are phenomenal. Started with a cocktail from their iconic drink list. Had a side of their mac and cheese. It’s so rich and creamy. Melts in your mouth. The ribs were insane along with their bbq chicken. Delicious potato salad. Ended with an espresso martini. Loved every second and will come back time after time for their award winning service, food and beverages. From management, to the bartenders, to the wait staff, to the back of house, we were pleased! Thank you for the experience!

⸻ I had lunch at Q39 and sat at the bar, where Brant was my server. From start to finish, the service was top-notch. Brant was attentive, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations. My food came out quickly, and everything was cooked to perfection. The brisket was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and had that perfect smoky bark. The baked beans with burnt ends were a standout side—rich, smoky, and full of depth. Beyond the food, the atmosphere at Q39 was welcoming, with a great balance of energy and comfort. Brant ensured I had everything I needed without being intrusive, making the experience even better. If you’re looking for outstanding BBQ with excellent service, Q39 is the spot, and Brant is a fantastic bartender to take care of you. I’ll definitely be back!

Our family visited this establishment for the first time today. To get in you walk down a tight small isle in between the bar and a long section of tables. A lot of table seating. We did not make reservations and were given a table immediately however another man came in just before us and had made a reservation for 3 at noon… His party was not seated before us. He was upset. We wait it’s for a long time in between any interaction with our waitress and when she did finally come she would speak and run not let anyone ask for anything that was needed… She spoke to the one young male at our table and refilled his drink but pretty much ignored everyone else, no other refills were offered. The waitress also reached across me to get someone else’s dirty dishes… arm pits in my face and later reached across another one of our table mates to get the check and payment instead of walking around to where the items were that she needed to pick up. Not good table etiquette for sure! The food tasted amazing however it was a bit pricey for what we received. The Mac n Q which is just mac n cheese tasted good but there was not even a cup of noodles on the plate. This was $9 for hardly anything.

When you walk through these doors you step into BBQ Heaven. The onion straws are the perfect appetizer to start your meal. Nice crispiness, a little spice, fantastic flavor. Smoked Brisket Poutine all around great flavor. Delicious brisket, cheese curds and gravy. The Southern Pride Sandwich is phenomenal. Excellent pulled pork, great crisp from the slaw, zesty BBQ sauce has just enough zing to set the whole thing off. I may have a new go-to BBQ joint in KC. Stop in and dig in. You won't be sorry

Google
Made reservations online, seated within minutes of arrival. Great service. Shared the mac and cheese with pulled pork and the beef brisket competition platter with burnt ends and two sides. This was plenty for three woman! Every thing was so good.

Google
My favorite bbq in the area. The zesty sauce is the best bbq sauce. Period. Service is unmatched. Paige gave us the perfect intro on the history of the restaurant and walkthrough of the menu. She quickly made us repeat customers. Because of the great experience, buying the sauce at the airport after checking in was a no-brainer.

Yelp
The celery in potato salad was fresh and crunchy! I love the tender brisket, but the sauce is just as sweet as everything in the us. The beans are adding smashed meat and so yum! Although too sweet, I enjoyed the food a lot. Service is good, but other customer was asking me to switch a seat for them when I was having my meal, which I don't think it's proper.

Yelp
The food was great and Maddie made the experience outstanding!! Thank you for making our retreat lunch awesome!

Amie G.

Yelp
Erick was awesome and very personable and attentive. Food is awesome as always! Love the south location.

Yelp
Amazing service. Our waiter was attentive and funny. Made great recommendations. Food was awesome! Chicken was moist and juicy, great flavor. Potato salad was a little too much onion, but that's a me thing - no fault there. Brisket was also yummy. You have to at least get the plate you can choose two meats on. My friend got a choose three with sausage, brisket and chicken. Sausage looked good too. I don't think you can go wrong here. Make a reservation if you can! We didn't wait long at lunch time as we had a reservation. Parking ... you might have to park and then walk a bit. Their lot is tiny.

Yelp
Went here for dinner. Waited 40 minutes for a table. Was never told if we didn't have reservations we would be sitting outside on the patio. It was really hot and humid. The place was loud and very packed. When we were seated, our waiter was great. He was friendly, welcoming and went over the menu with us. The food was delivered in a timely manner. We ordered the onion straw fries as an appetizer. They were delicious but difficult to eat. They aren't really a finger food but a little awkward to eat and dip with a fork. We both ordered a two option meat plate with two sides and an additional side of meat to split. It was a lot of food and plenty for left overs. We had brisket, pulled pork and pork belly. The brisket was fantastic. It melted in my mouth, so tender you could cut it with a spoon. It was moist and had the perfect smoke flavor. That was my favorite by far. The pulled pork was great as well. Very tender, smoked to perfection and had wonderful taste. They had just the right amount of sauce drizzled over the meat and it wasn't overly sweet. Great sauce. The pork belly was melt in your mouth fantastic as well. Pork belly can be hit or miss, theirs was a hit. It was perfect. The sides were not as impressive to me. The mac and cheese was a little bland, runny and just meh. The menu said the baked beans had meat in them but maybe my scoop was unlucky as I didn't recall any. They were realllllly sweet too. The street corn was good, not too mayonnaise-y flavored and the apple coleslaw was good as well but nothing over the top that will draw me back to that meal. The reason I gave this place 3 stars was for the seating inconvenience, the sides were nothing special and because it was so expensive. The meat saved the day on this one. At the end of the day, I'm still looking for the best Kansas BBQ restaurant. This just wasn't it for me. Been there, done that, moving on.

Yelp
Been in the area for a minute so we've had a lot of bbq. Family recommended Q39 so we tried to make reservations but we're not able to because we were with. The 2 hour window. Arrived, put our name in, and waited for an hour. The waiting area is small and hot. When we checked on our position in line the hostess looked shocked and said, "Oh, we can take you right now." Code for "darn, we skipped you even though you were sitting right there." The vibe in the dining area was chill. Lots of people having conversations and a good time. Well decorated. We were shuttled to our seats and from there the service was good. Our drinks were ok, nothing to brag about. The food came out very fast and was amazing. Some of the best bbq we've had. The chipotle sausage was an even blend of spice. The ribs, a perfect cook. And the brisket. Tender with just the right hint of smoke. Even my side salad was great, and the portions were right on point. Had the Mac and cheese as well. Splendid. Unfortunately our night was cut short of after dinner drinks because the sun barreled through a window and was blinding one of our party. That and the server failed to see if anyone wanted to continue drinking or would like anything else. I'd give the food 5. But the service is like a 2.5. Just felt from check in to check out that they were indifferent to our patronage. I have my suspicions why, but I'll keep them here. I'll still eat here, but I'll take it to go.

Yelp
When in Kansas City, BBQ is a must, from what I'm told. We decided to try Q39 based on some reddit recommendations (lol) and picked the South location as it seemed to be less busy on a weekend than the downtown location. The restaurant was packed even for an early dinner before 5pm. Luckily, with a reservation, our party was seated swiftly. The server recommended a few dishes that feature Q39's signature Burnt Ends. I was planning to order something different but, given my fierce FOMO, decided to order the angus beef brisket, as it comes with an order of burnt ends. For the sides, opted for street corn and fries. The burnt ends were delicious and so was the brisket, but the meat does get cold quite fast. The first few bites, while the meat was warm, were certainly tastier than those that followed. The BBQ sauce was good but you don't get too much of it (maybe you can ask for more, but I didn't). The fries were crispy but somewhat devoid of seasoning. They very much benefit from the ketchup and BBQ dips. The street corn was delicious. All in all, not disappointed having stopped here. Would probably try a different place next time I'm in Kansas City. If you do stop here though, I'd definitely recommend not missing the burnt ends.

Yelp
We started off our trip to the Kansas City area with a stop at Q39. Reservations can be made online on their website and glad we did because they get super busy, even on a weeknight. Everything we had was delicious. The ribs and the burnt ends were our favorite. The sides were pretty fantastic too; we had the beans, cucumbers and vegetables.

Jeff David G.

Yelp
With the Chiefs being Super Bowl champions and the Royals are back in contention, there aren't too many things KC people will still try to argue about, but personal opinions for the best barbecue will always be a hot topic here. Q39 has certainly presented a compelling argument. We have been before and enjoyed it but got it take out this time and it was better than I remember. The interior is casually refined yet comfortable and the food is unbelievable. This time, I ordered the Pit Master and Mr. Burns. Every bit of meat was so tender, flavorful, and perfectly complimented by the rest of the sandwich components. Their plates rock too. Some of the best wings I've ever had and everyone loves their ribs. The sides aren't on the same level of the meat and everything is relatively expensive, but the main dishes here truly rival anything around.

Thang T.

Yelp
Very busy and packed even on a weekday, so online reservations are definitely recommended. Service was fast and very polite, atmosphere was good as well. Best items were the pork belly on the corn and Q pork spare ribs. Probably the best honey barbecue sauce I've ever had since it tasted like actual honey. Overall would come again.

Candice S.

Yelp
I don't eat a lot of BBQ (I know, I'm not from here), but when I'm craving it, this is where we go. They have a wonderful menu of what I assume are all of the staples (I can't eat beef). I love the customizable options. I am a huge fan of their pulled pork. Sadly, I don't have an any picture, but every time I have gone it has been delicious. I have never had to wait long and the place is spaced out enough that it isn't too loud.

Hoang T.

Yelp
Trying a new bbq place and this place was highly recommended. I love sitting at the bar and they have a very nice large bar area. The food was good...portions small which worked for me because I'm in from out of town and did t want leftovers. But the drink...the drink was bomb! It was some kind of berry old fashioned? I dk...it was great.

Aj W.

Yelp
Glad to try here on my trip to KC, we stayed near Overland Park so this was not far away. Nice clean building and we liked the bee hives on the roof :). Our server Patrick was wonderful and told us about the menu and history which was interesting. We didn't get any appetizers but both enjoyed our brisket. Daughter got the Brisket Dip sandwich and I got the brisket plate. The burnt ends were all they were talked up to be, and the brisket was well smoked but very juicy! Sauce was barely there - just enough to complement the meat flavors. For a side I got the street corn and cucumber salad and both were good.

Morgan A.

Yelp
Q39 has been the king of kings in my book. The sausage here is simply unmatched and the sides are heaven sent. This was my first visit (oddly enough) to the Q39 South brick & mortar and the restaurant was busy busy busy but well kept. The indoor/outdoor patio has garage doors that open up to outside. I can't come to KC without picking up Q39 and they had their burnt ends this time around and they were absolutely divine. The apple slaw is killer as well.

Cindy R.

Yelp
We were in for the weekend visiting family and I'm so glad they brought us to Q39 South. We lived in Tx for 8 years and the brisket here is amazing. Tender and so juicy and full of flavor. We also loved the Poutine. The space feels new, modern, spacious and comfortable. The service was friendly and helpful. We also loved the sweet tea (TX style is less sweet than the Georgia style). Burnt ends could have had more flavor but the texture was superb and ribs could have been a little more fall-off-the-bone tender but still delicious. We could eat here every visit and be very happy.

Joseph A.

Yelp
My friends were visiting from Omaha and wanted BBQ so I had to bring them down to Q39! I've only been to the midtown location, but the south location did not disappoint. I was able to get a reservation for 3 people on a Saturday around noon pretty easily. It was fairly busy but we had an attentive waiter who came back frequently to check on us. We got our food soon after we ordered and didn't have to wait too long. Would definitely come back to this location!

Lisa J.

Yelp
We are in town for a softball tournament and brought 4 girls plus parents (total of 9) on a Friday night. None of us are from the area- but came are suggestion from someone at the ball field. When we walked up the place was packed. We were told it would be an hour wait. I didn't know if we would stay that long and asked if they had any suggestions. Five minutes later while we were still trying to decide- the manager came out to get us and said he had the perfect spot. We were seated immediately on the patio and it was lovely. The manager told us he didn't want us to leave KC and miss this experience. I'm glad we stayed. We took a lot of menu suggestions from our server Ryan. Between the 9 of us- I think we sampled all the meats, most of the sides and even some desserts. The poutine was amazing and perfectly proportioned. Myself- I enjoyed brisket and chicken. The Mac n cheese is a must. We had all of our food within 10-15 minutes. If we lived in KC we would definitely come again! Knowing what I know now- we would wait an hour for a table. If you are passing through- this is a must stop for KC BBQ.

Sara C.

Yelp
Oh! This was oh so good! We brought an out of town guest to Q39 to show her a taste of Kansas City. She ordered a burnt end sandwich and fries. Loved the sandwich, but thought the fries had too much seasoning (I disagreed. They were perfect!) I adored my cheesy corn and our waiter was fun. Thanks for helping us show off the city!

Jeff A.

Yelp
Service and food were very good. Our server did a great job getting our drinks, take our orders and get our food out. Another great experience at Q39.

Shawn O.

Yelp
Best BBQ in town. Can't go wrong with the judges plate. Brisket, Chicken, Ribs, Pulled Pork. All delicious. My wife got the buffalo chicken sandwich and said it was also great. Our waiter Erick was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

Alex P.

Yelp
It was bumping on a Wednesday and we got seated outside (it was a nice evening). Despite being crazy our wait to order wasn't too bad (few minutes) and Imani our server was good. I ordered the pork bahn mi and I really enjoyed the slaw and the pulled pork. I like my bbq slathered in bbq sauce so I had to add some. The poutine was good but I didn't eat a ton of it because it had cheese curds in it. I enjoyed it but it is very loud.

Dawn S.

Yelp
If you are thinking about trying Q39... just go. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly. They are pricey but so worth it. I did notice that we were the only ones there with kids. With that being said, if you want to enjoy your food without kids, this is the restaurant for you. I ordered a little bit of everything and was so impressed. All the meat was cooked perfectly, and the BBQ sauce was excellent. I will be visiting again in the future. Delicious food.

Robert P.

Yelp
First off let me say that this place has a good vibe, friendly staff, and the Brisket is yummy. I'm a big fan of Dip sandwiches, but their take on the classic French Dip missed the mark by a mile. They may as well just called it a brisket sandwich on a burger bun with cheese. Dip sandwiches should always be in a toasted baguette so that the bread stays crisp even when soaking up the Aus Jus. Second, where are the grilled onions? Then the cheese was barely warm, and it was on a lightly toasted burger bun which fell apart in your hands. Plus you had to pay an extra $5,50 for a few overly seasoned fries (which tells me that they want you to buy more drinks). So, I would have just given this place a solid 4 stars as I'm sure that the brisket platter would the bomb. But as I was hanging at the bar I watched a bartender grab a large piece of ice with his bare hands and place it into a drink glass to serve a customer. That's enough right there to have the health department shut it down. Needless to say, I will be checking out other BBQ places to eat this week.

Jesika H.

Yelp
I come to KC ONLY for Q39 and their brisket and burnt ends. Just understand, nothing short of perfection! The meat is smoked to the heavens and so tender you don't need BBQ sauce. Burnt ends are only available in either a meal unless that day they just so happen to have it as a app. Worth every single penny.

Allie C.

Yelp
You can't ever go wrong with BBQ from Q39! The flavors here are outta this world! You have to try the burnt ends (so popular, they can't offer them as a stand-alone menu item because they would sell out!), but the chopped brisket in the BBQ fries is just as tender and lip-smackingly good. I'm a huge fan of the sides too, seasonal veggies and cold orzo pasta salad are great foils to the smoky umami of the meats. I really love this location too, the servers are great and the vibe is right. This is a perfect place to take an out of towner!

Kyle S.

Yelp
Our dining experience was all around wonderful! We got reservations and were seated within 5 minutes during a busy night. Our server Toni was very friendly, attentive, personal, honest, and very knowledgeable about the menu! Our drinks were made to perfection and our food was delicious! Would recommend and come back for sure.

Andrew N.

Yelp
The food was absolutely fantastic and delicious nothing was left on the plates. We had a server by the name of Nick and he was very friendly and a great server. For a sit down bbq joint in KC it could have a bad atmosphere considering most the good ones you order and then sit. This one was a great atmosphere and a beautiful restaurant inside and out.

Kar L.

Yelp
Okay this place is delicious. First time having KC BBQ! It was recommended by multiple friends who live in Kansas City, and it did not disappoint. We got the brisket and burnt ends plate with a side of Mac and cheese (we paid an additional up charge). We also added on pork belly. I have to say, the pork belly was actually my favorite because it was so different. We got takeout (ordered online - super easy!) and they were kind enough to separate the panko crumbs from the Mac and cheese, so when we ate it, it was still nice and crispy.

Jason L.

Yelp
Q39 is a must-stop for me any time I'm in town. Their Burnt Ends are amazing but it's a shame that in order to get them you need to order a very specific platter or a burger. I understand why, limited supply, but it's the sort of thing where I'd gladly pay a LOT extra just to order them as a side. Beyond that, the baked beans (which include bits of burnt ends) are my favorite side, and the crispy onion rings my favorite appetizer. The service is generally great, with that Midwestern welcoming I miss from decades back when I lived in Illinois. I've never been here when the place wasn't packed, including today, 11:45AM on a Thursday, so make a reservation if you're coming at a typical meal time.

Andrew C.

Yelp
This venue was packed when we arrived however they have an enclosed porch area that has a fireplace. We were seated within a minute of arrival without a lunch reservation on a Sunday. Our server was helpful with the beer and meal choices. She was really good at the upsell of ribs but unfortunately none of us had that great of an appetite, no less for lunch. The brisket was tender and juicy and the sauce was just enough not to detract from the meat. The burnt ends, imo, was one of the best in KC (Arthur Bryant is just as moist and juicy). The establishment seemed upscale and has another location. Several families with children were present that day, and they seemed happy and well taken care of.

Patty E.

Yelp
My cousin took me to Q39 tonight and taught me how delicious barbeque could really be. Born and raised in Southern California, I guess I never really knew how deprived I was! If you come out, get the smoked old fashioned, then the burnt ends appetizer, if you dare for more, order the combo platter and upgrade to the mac n cheese. Finish off with a delicious dessert and then stroll on home in your fat pants!

Keith M.

Yelp
If I'm ever in a 200 mile radius of this place, I have to come here. The best pork ribs I've ever had. The sauces are excellent as well. Just look at those ribs! Don't they look awesome? Well, they are. I'm not very creative when I come here, because I am laser focused on getting those damn pork ribs! The last few times I've come here, I've been alone and I sit at the bar. This is a good "hack" for one or two people, because usually there's quite a bit of a wait to get a table. Anyway, let me know how everything else is because I never try anything different fearing that I would regret not having those delightful ribs.

Graham L.

Yelp
Food- always good tasty and happy dance invoking Service - consistently good Ambiance - nice steak bouse / bbq joint vibe Went today 11/5/23 after lunch hour. Ordered Mac & Cheese (dish not side) with Pork Belly Tomatoes Mac and cheese by itself is very tasty with itty bitty bread crumbs Pork Belly (2 pieces) is salty, meaty, and bbq sauce drizzled making it delicious. Little halved cherry tomatoes give it a nice slight acidity. Put these 3 banditos together in your mouth, chew, and your jowels and taste buds will be singin' the "happy dance"! You have other options to pair with the M&C - like Brisket, Pulled Pork, Also had a small side of Apple Slaw - really good side and is a nice flavor contrast as you engorge on the M&C. They also have 2 NA beer available and about 3 0% cocktails for the non drinkin' folks out there.

Chris F.

Yelp
Ended up getting some food to go on my way out of KC back to TX. The price is higher compared to most, but well worth it. Ordered the Mr. Burns Sandwich (Burnt ends, Onion straws, and pepper jack cheese) as burnt ends are a KC specialty while the onion straws and pepper jack makes this a staple sandwich around KC. The burnt ends are plentiful and a little over 1 to 1.25 in thick, so they do not skimp on the meat. It is super flavorful and tender where each bite melts in your mouth but with the proper amount of chewiness still. The BBQ sauce came on the side since it was to go, which was nice so that the bun would not get soggy and you could put how much you wanted. I did the walk-up to go order and it took about 10 minutes from order to them bringing the food out to the car. That was fast considering how many cars were in the parking lot. The girl who took my order was super friendly and checked if I needed anything such as cutlery or extra napkins since she knew I was hitting the road.

Dan S.

Yelp
Food was average. Service was good. Cost was too high! Food is over priced! I will probably not go back.

Nitu M.

Yelp
Our first time in Kansas and we were told to definitely try Q39. We got the burnt end appetizer( not on the menu), along with the Judges plate as well as their best selling BBQ brisket. Maddie M was our amazing server! Her service was THE best we have had ever- wish everyone was like her!. Drinks were refilled even before the first one was done. Her recommendations were awesome and the desserts were amazing!

Kelsey M.

Yelp
I absolutely love Q39's food. Everything is always delicious. I've been to both locations. I'm still giving 5 stars because it's not the food that was an issue and everyone was so nice, but the only issue we had was the 3 of us ordered the special of all the meats and 2 sides for $60. She said we could make it a portion for 3 people, but I asked specifically if we could have the 2 person portion for the 3 of us since we didn't need that much food. Our food came out and it looked massive and we were told it was the 2 person portion. When we got the check it was $90 so she did in fact ring up the 3 person portion. The food was amazing and we took it home, so we didn't make a big deal about it, but if anyone else deals with this be really adamant about what you want as it was honestly a portion for 5.

Joanna M.

Yelp
Yum! This is hands down one of our favorite BBQ spots. There is a decent parking lot out in front of the restaurant. This place gets busy so reservations for a larger group are a must. We were seated quickly and our waitress came over right away. The brisket is thick and flavorful. The ribs are fall off the bone delicious. The potato salad has a unique flavor and the baked beans with the burnt ends are delicious and I love there is a few different kind of beans in the mix. My husband enjoyed his chicken wings and the vegetables. Our food came quickly and each bite was a delight. We will be back.

Jazzy S.

Yelp
We were excited to try this place after hearing many great things. The service was great; the waitress was super friendly. Ambiance is a modern casual bbq spot. I definitely needed to try the burnt ends. And they were so yummy. - Onion straws (4.5/5): I LOVE sides even more than meat, and these onion straws were the bomb. So crispy and so much flavor - Burnt end burger (4/5): The burnt ends, so juicy and fatty which I love. Lots going on though but so yummy - Combo plate (4/5): Brisket was cooked well, super flavorful. Mac n cheese was so savory and perfectly cheesy.

Marissa F.

Yelp
All around amazing!! My salad was so good my phone clearly did not eat first. I do wish the salmon fillet was a bit bigger to make it more filling but the flavor was great. We also tried the burger which was great. The side of baked beans were chefs kiss!! Lastly, I had the Flirtini but because it looked super sweet I opted out of the simple syrup. This made it perfect for my taste and really allowed the raspberry to shine. If you like super sweet drinks then keep the simple syrup.

Laura K.

Yelp
Normally not the biggest fan of BBQ and straight meat dishes, but I enjoyed my experience here! The service was great! We were ~5 min for our reservation (traffic), but the waiter still managed to squeeze us in reasonably quick. We really appreciated that. ** 100% would recommend the P.B.L.T (Pork Belly, Lettuce, Tomato). This even blew my boyfriend away when he took a bite! It may be unconventional to order a sandwich at a BBQ place, it was incredibly tender and flavorful. Compared to other BBQ places in KC that I've tried, I think this is my favorite!

Bret K.

Yelp
Amazing food! This is our third time eating here while down in KC for a soccer tournament. Adam was able to accommodate us with a large group with split reservations without an issue. The secret is out on this place, the lines can be long if you are coming at a busy time. Great to plan ahead and go online the day before to get a reservation. Taylor did a great job taking care of us throughout dinner. Will definitely be back!

Lisa H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! And Maddie took great care of us. I had the Mr. Burns sandwich and I drank the Stockyard Cerveza Royale, both worth coming back for.

Eric H.

Yelp
You gotta try the onion ring appetizer, the sauce is killer. I had the Nachos and it wasn't anything to write home about but the meat was good

Taylor O.

Yelp
First note.... If you're going on a weekend night, make a reservation! We still had to wait a little bit and it was filled to the brim with people eating and waiting but it's worth it! This isn't like a romantic quiet spot so don't expect that! It's busy, it's load and it's not the best ambiance but that's okay for what we are there for! I've been to Q39 a handful of times and I've only strayed from my usual meal once... with that being said the burnt end burger has left me not even interested in trying other things! I'm already a burger gal but not much can get better than this one! Between the meat and slaw, it is just phenomenal! The one time I strayed from the burger was for lunch and I got the salmon salad and it was really good! It was a nice light option and I really enjoyed it! The salmon was perfect! Now on to starters and shareables... we pretty much always get the wings because they are fire but last night we got the smoked brisket nachos and wow! As a lactose intolerant gal, it was worth it!

Yelp
Great little barbecue joint, owned and operated locally. Wanted to try some Hometown barbecue while I was in town, this place did not disappoint. Did the burnt ends with the pulled pork, did not disappoint

Yelp
Absolutely amazing bbq! Hands down some of the best I have had. Great location. Crowded on a Thursday night. Fortunately only had a party of three and the bar had seating. Lots of bbq competition trophies on the walls and well deserved. My party and I are all out of towners on business and this was recommended by our client. The chicken wing appetizer is phenomenal. Generous sized wings cooked to perfection and coated in a thick, rich sauce. Not drowned in sauce. Meat pulled off bone smoothly. Seasoned well with just enough pepper so as not to overpower anything. Also had a combo platter with ribs and brisket and the requisite sides of beans and Mac and cheese. Ribs were immaculate. Large bones with tender meat that fell off the bone but with a good chew. Not rubbery or mushy. Sauce was similar to the chicken. Brisket also amazing. Fork tender. All meats had a perfect amount of smoke flavor. Not harsh or chemical or overpowering. Sides also bursting with flavor. Normally the Mac and cheese I find blah but this was creamy and tender. Beans rich and savory. Add in two local brews and the meal was top notch. Great service among the two bartenders. Almost makes me want to move here.

Yelp
On what will be likely our final visit here since we move our recent KU graduate daughter back to Colorado this weekend, this visit was good, but not great. Busy on a Saturday night, we were seated a bit before our scheduled reservation time, but we waited a long time to be greeted once we sat. Waitress attentiveness was much better after the initial wait, however. My daughter and I each had a beer, although hers was technically the spiked root beer she prefers. I went with my regular judges plate with sausage and two orders of ribs. What I got was one order of ribs and one order of brisket. No worries though, as I received another order of ribs to go with the brisket. Looking back, kind of glad not all ribs received came from the same rack, as the replacement ribs were MUCH better than the first two on the plate. Too bad that two were near the end of the rack and a lot more fat than succulent meat. Sausage was good as always. For our final visit, I splurged on the Mac and cheese, which I never get. Glad I did, as it was the highlight of the meal. Side veggies are still delicious too. Yeah, because I'm eating real healthy with this meal. Oy. My daughter got her regular brisket plate with burnt ends, which had been amazing on our last visit a few months ago. Unfortunately, not so spectacular on this visit. Good, but not great. She was underwhelmed with the brisket as well, which I actually thought was pretty decent. She agreed the Mac and cheese was the star of the show. Had this been our first visit, we likely would've tried some of the other joints next time around, and I probably would've given it three stars. However, as our go-to in the KC area after so many great visits, their previous reputation gets it up to four for me. Until we potentially meet again down the road, Q39!

Yelp
Great service, consistently high quality food, and a great ambiance. If you haven't tried the burnt ends , you're missing out.... delicious meat candy. TIP - If they're out of the burnt ends appetizer, just order a Mr. Burns less the bun and cheese. I'd encourage a reservation if going anywhere around prime time. Are you guys making your own honey now? I saw what appeared to be beehives on the roof the other day.
