TL; DR
We genuinely regret wasting one of our limited Kansas City meals here. If you’re passing through and looking for great BBQ, do yourself a favor and skip this place. Head to Joe’s instead—you’ll thank us later. We travel all over the U.S. trying the best spots, and unfortunately, this one missed the mark.
We’re currently on a cross-country trip and made it a mission to try the best BBQ spots across the U.S.—Kansas City being one of the key places we were excited to visit. This restaurant came highly recommended, so we decided to place a to-go order through their website. We paid in full ahead of time, including a tip.
When we arrived to pick up our order, we were greeted by a lady with glasses who was not only rude and clearly disinterested in helping us, but also tried to get us to pay an additional tip in person—despite us already tipping online. It felt dishonest, and the entire interaction left a sour taste before we even got our food.
We ordered brisket, chicken, ribs, slaw, potato salad, beans, and mac and cheese. The only standout was the mac and cheese. Everything else was incredibly underwhelming, especially the brisket—it tasted like it had been boiled rather than smoked, and the flavor was completely reliant on the sauce slathered on top.
For a meal that cost over $100, the quality simply wasn’t there. Mediocre at best. We also tried Joe’s KC BBQ on this trip, and it was far superior in every way—flavor, service, and overall experience.
