There’s No Escaping the Gentrification of Chai | Eater

"A classic dhaba-style spot known for frothy, milk-heavy doodh patti tea that people would drive to and sip from their cars; it represents the traditional roadside tea culture and the informal comforts that inspired the newer, more polished chai cafés." - Saba Imtiaz

The coffee was delicious and the service was great. It was my first time there and the guy was asked me several questions to understand what I like and recommended me the coffee. To top it off my husband left his laptop on the table and 3 days later he noticed and we went back and they have saved it for us. This is the type of cafe I want to go all the time to. Great job!

Best Tea 🫖 of My Life — A Must-Visit Gem! Qahwah House in Paterson is, without question, the best tea experience I’ve ever had. The flavor of their signature Yemeni tea is unlike anything I’ve tasted — rich, aromatic, smooth, and incredibly comforting. Whether you’re a tea lover or not, this place will absolutely win you over. The ambiance is vibrant and lively, always buzzing with energy and people. The shop has a rustic-chic vibe with wooden shelving, a touch of Middle Eastern décor, and a beautiful world map mural that adds an earthy, cultural flair. The team behind the counter is clearly passionate, efficient, and welcoming, even during the busy hours. Let’s talk about the desserts — they’re mind-blowing. I tried a creamy pistachio dessert topped with golden chocolate drizzle and a warm, honey-soaked slice of Yemeni-style cake with sesame seeds — both were insanely good and perfectly balanced in sweetness. The presentation is also on point: tea served in elegant glass pots and vibrant ceramic cups that feel authentic and thoughtful. You can tell they care about every detail. The seating area is decent, though admittedly not the most comfortable. Some soft, velvet chairs or couches would take the experience to the next level, especially with how upscale the drinks and desserts feel. That said, it still works well for quick bites or hangouts with friends. All in all, if you’re looking for the finest, most flavorful Yemeni tea, Qahwah House is the place to be. The quality is unmatched, the vibes are strong, and every visit feels special.

Google
Tried this place for the first time. They have a small parking lot but I was able to find a street parking spot. Very cute cafe with seating space including seating at the counter. Person who took my order was nice and recommended the strawberry matcha. They took their time making it. I will say it's a bit pricey. The drink was perfect once it was blended! Will return to try their coffee soon.

Very nice ambiance. I could see a lot of visitors that seems like it makes a good place to hangout for locals. I especially liked the honeycomb cheese pastry. I'd love to come back here and try the other desserts and unique teas.

This is my favorite place, I love meeting friends and coming with family. The staff is so friendly , accommodating and welcoming. The quality is delicious and addicting. I always try to make a point to come and enjoy my Yemeni latte or Adeni chai.

Google
This place is a 4.5 stars - i rounded it up. Minus 0.5 stars from 5 stars because it felt like it was bit too pricey (we got large tea pot, 2 cold drinks and it costed us about $36) but the atmosphere, service, and the drinks were great!

Google
AMAZING PLACE!!!! easy to park near there. drinks are great. I went there for this promotion they had where if you wear the color of the flavor drink you want, you get 50% off. Our drink maker that night was Virgo, he made the most delicious strawberry purse matcha, i was in heaven. Definitely try it out

Google
I have been to this place twice and so far loved it. The Adeni tea is very tasty .. very similar to tea back home . You can chill here and work ..similar to any cafes out there. They have their special bread too which is nice and warm filled with some fresh cheese and honey on top . Next time would like to try some coffees here.

Yelp
As a coffee enthusiast, I've spent a lot of time exploring and sampling coffee shops everywhere. I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon Qahwa House (which translates to "coffee house") It didn't disappoint. This spot is a great place to enjoy authentic, spiced Yemeni coffee paired with delicious Middle Eastern pastries. The space is welcoming with plenty of seating. The service was excellent, and I even had the chance to meet the owner, who was working that day -- friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. I'm not sure if the location in Hell's Kitchen is related, but I'm definitely planning to visit that location as well.

Yelp
My friend and I dropped by Qahwah House around 9:30PM in search of Yemeni tea. Luckily they have a parking lot (albeit a small one) and we were fortunate enough to grab the last spot. We walked in and placed our order at the counter. The place was pretty full but there's a pretty good amount of seating. Since it was just the two of us we were fine with sitting by the counter. Once you place your order you're given one of those buzzers that alerts you once your order is ready. Our pot of tea was ready in a few minutes and since we were seated at the counter it was brought right to us. I'm no tea expert but I really liked the spices in it. My friend said it was just as good as the tea he had at his friend's mosque so I suppose that speaks to the quality. Service was friendly and prompt. The place is nice and clean. You can't ask for much more from a cafe. We didn't try any of the food, but it all looked delicious. I'd come back some other time.

Yelp
Finally got to check this spot off my list!! The atmosphere was super lively and it was very busy. There's a lot of tables and seating, but they fill up fast especially at night. We got the Adeni chai & the Khaliat Alnahl, a Yemeni dessert that's basically pull apart cheese drizzled with honey. It's super subtle and absolutely delicious. The chai is very rich & aromatic.. I'm still dreaming of it. This one pot was good for about 3 people and 2-3 cups each. 10/10 highly recommend & I can't wait to go back! - we had to street park!

Yelp
My fav place for Yemeni coffees & teas to be honest coffee and tea overall in general. The servers are always kind and remember who you are. They have an outsidey type patio and it's nice and sunny. I started with Adani chai but now my drink is Yemeni latte with almond milk and light sugar. A hug in a cup with a pick me up.

Yelp
Amazing variety of exotic teas and coffees. Learnt about origin of coffee from Yemen in 1500's. Relaxed atmosphere and loved the pistachio latte

Yelp
I'm dropping my rating because this is the third time I've been to this Qahwah House location during regular business hours and it's been closed. It doesn't matter how good a place is if you can't rely on their posted schedule. One time is fine, but multiple times is an extreme inconvenience that is simply not justifiable.

Yelp
What a cute place. Looks small on the outside, but ample seating inside. The staff were amazingly nice and attentive to everyone they were attending to. We got several items: Adenai Chai and Mofawar coffee for drinks; and a vegan chocolate cake, pistachio cake, and two savory items (one with cheese, other with cheese and spinach). The drinks were quite delicious. None of the ingredients were overpowering. My husband and I debated on the desserts: I loved the vegan cake as I felt it was moist, and the chocolate was overpowering, and I felt the pistachio cake was dry. My husband felt it was the opposite and enjoyed the pistachio cake more. The star was really the cheese and spinach savory pastry - I would definitely buy several of those next time. We enjoyed seeing children were also present and enjoyed the open seating in the back. There is parking in the premises, but it is limited. Luckily there is ample street parking. Credit card accepted Highly recommend.

Yelp
Went to grab coffee with some friends on a Saturday morning at Qahwah House. Fortunately, they have a parking lot. It's a neat cafe with tables inside and they even have a covered patio. I placed my order at the register, and they handed me a pager that would buzz when my order was ready. I got a cold brew and a pastry called a khaliat alnahi. The cold brew was very strong. It was perfect with a little water added to it. I really liked the khaliat alnahi, which was a soft bread stuffed with cheese and drizzled with honey. I also got to try some of the hot coffee. It had cardamom and other spices which i didnt like too much. Pretty good spot for cold brew though.

Love the adeni chai and honeycomb bread. Great space and ambiance. Adding to my regulars.

Yelp
Sunday morning breakfast and it hits everytime! The staff is always so welcoming and this place just does cappuccino right everytime! Today had their lemon bundt cake at it was moist . Sweet and tangy! Nice date spot!

Yelp
whoa! that is one strong coffee right there. We got their Yemeni Latte and their seasonal Oatnog Latte which really gave me a kick. lol they were good but a bit too strong for me (currently im on a "limited" caffeine intake so a strong one is a no-can-do for me). Yemeni coffee was not bad but i guess it had some hint of spice to it that my palate is not the biggest fan of. But despite that, if this is your preference, it definitely good coffee. It was huge inside which I was kinda surprised about and had lots of seating. There were a good portion of sweets to try. We got the dark chocolate which had a dark chocolate coating over sponge cake and mousse. It was decadent but quite sweet. The Sabaya and Kahliat Alnhal on the menu seemed interesting so hopefully we could try that some time. Overall, it may not be the best experience YET but we loved trying new things and coffee shops. Staff was good and we appreciate that they have their own parking lot. So convenient!

Yelp

Yelp
Hands-down, my favorite spot ever. I'm so obsessed with this place, that I buy the tea leaves and I own one of the teapots. I love the vibe and I love how friendly the staff is!

Yelp
Always very crowded so hard to get a seat when you are going with a large group. The yemeni latte and honey bread are amazing!

Yelp
It's difficult to find Indian Style Chai, and while the Tea here is not exactly "Chai", it is still pretty good. Overall decor and atmosphere was so welcoming, with sufficient seating; great place to sit and relax with friends with a Pot of Coffe or Tea. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to this little spot because I love chai tea, but it can be very overpowering in times, but I decided to give this a shot! To begin with the way I was treated so wonderfully and the hospitality was amazing. I didn't know if I was gonna like that chai tea so they offered me some samples which I thought was so kind of them. The way they treated me, cheerfulness, and kindness. I will be back. Any chance I get. The men that work behind the counter are amazing with their knowledge of how to make the drinks was admirable and the way they treat the customers is absolutely phenomenal! Seems to be a very popular place Very attractive people also not only behind the counter, but also the customers. Five all the way!

Yelp
Qahwah house was solid cafe. It was very busy and packed. They had a great selection of desserts and coffee n tea. I went with an Adenai chai, which was brewed with plenty of milk. It was super hot and crisp. I absolutely loved. It. Infact, when I finished my large cup, I ordered another one. One thing I noticed was that customers were bringing their own desserts also, and it was allowed, as long as one ordered coffee or tea from Qahwah house. The ambiance was nice. The atmosphere was chill and folks were enjoying their convos with great coffee n tea and desserts. One last thing.... Parking is very very limited. Have to park on street or neighborhood.

Edward K.

Yelp
I had already tried the other locations of Qahwah House, so I knew this would be good. My wife and I had lunch nearby, so I decided to stop for some coffee and dessert. The cafe feels new. Modern, well lit, comfortable seating. The gentlemen working behind the counter were professional and patient. He recommended the Jubani, as it's a popular coffee drink. I was leaning towards the double shot of espresso but figured I would take his recommendation. I was pretty sure I wanted the Khaliat Al Nahl and he agreed that it's a very popular dessert. The Jubani was served super hot and once it settled down, it was a pleasant ginger forward cup of coffee. The Khaliat Al Nahl is a show stopper. Pull apart cheese filled rolls, coated in high quality honey. An absolute delight! Great to have another amazing choice in the area!

Yelp
I saw this place on Instagram and the desserts and coffees looked so delicious so I had to check it. Overall I thought it was a nice place to get together with your friends or family, relax, and have a cup of Yemeni tea or coffee. First things first, there's only one menu at the cashier that everyone crowds over, I wish there were multiple menus or a menu board. Secondly, you can't order a cup of coffee or tea if you're dining in, you need to order a pot (3 sizes). We decided to try the sana'ani and adeni chai. We also sampled the mofawar. The mofawar was actually much better than the sana'ani however it had cream and the people I came with can't tolerate creams so we went with the sana'ani, which was still really good but not as amazing. The adeni chai was amazing, it was creamy and had a beautiful blend of spices, similar to Indian chais. Now moving on to the desserts, I don't know if it was the time we went or if this place doesn't specialize in desserts but they were bad. Everything tasted like it was frozen and then defrosted. The basbousa (pictured in the centre) is supposed to be spongey and soaked in syrup, this one was dry and mealy. The pistachio tart (bottom right) had zero flavor, there was no pistachio and was basically a piece of chocolate. The chocolate brownie (top right), which had a specific name I forgot, was the best one. It was a chocolate cake, brownie, mousse coated in crunchy chocolate. I personally wouldn't order it again but I think most chocolate lovers would enjoy it. Overall, as the name suggests this is a qahwah (coffee) house and the drinks were amazing! The service was good, everything came out quickly, the restaurant was clean but the washroom was not. I will definitely come back to try other drinks. I note though, this place is very very pricey.

Yelp
The rada'ey with the khaliat alnahl top notch combination amazing treats for a midday pick me up. Very friendly staff as well accommodating

Yelp
We tried a few of the pastries and the Mofawar (highly recommend!) and Adeni Chai (this was okay). A long overdue addition to the Paterson food scene! Having a coffee house with tasty offerings and spacious seating has been missing for years. Qawah House provides excellent drink options, a warm ambiance, and spacious seating. The only downside was the drinks are made in batches, and depending on business can take a long time to make. Not a huge problem if you're dining in, but if you're in a rush trying to grab take out, it may take a while. Also the drinks are HOT! Sip carefully!

Paoliux C.

Yelp
A new way to enjoy a relaxing evening with the best tea and good environment, the staff were really nice and explained how it's the tea, it was my first time and I really loved it
google avatar

Priya R.

Yelp
Service was cool, the ambiance of the space itself- I really liked and would totally come to do some work. However, the food and drink really disappointed me. The mocha latte was nothing special and had some sort of aftertaste. The spinach and feta pastry, again very lack luster. And the cheese sambosa was atrocious- apart from the lack of flavor of anything; it taste like straight freezer! I literally had to spit it out and dump it. Cost me all around $21 and I really feel like it was a waste of money. Maybe I need to try something different here but didn't enjoy what I did try.

Yelp
If you're local, DO NOT go on a weekend. This place is hot spot and attracts people from all over jersey/PA/CT. It will be packed and you won't find a place to sit. If you can make it in there on a weekday you'll have a much better experience (unless you're going for the crowd vibe) Service is fast, friendly, and informative. They'll gladly answer all your questions about menu items. My favorite drinks so far are the mofawar (coffee with spices and milk), Adani Chai (hot milk tea with spices), and iced Yemeni latte (latte with a spicy spin).

Yelp
Qahwah House is such a breathe of fresh air. My friend and I came on a Monday evening, and we thankfully found parking in their tiny parking lot. Once you walk in, the staff is so friendly, it's not normal (in a good way). They are always smiling, and willing to help you in any and every way. My friend and I ordered the Adeni Chai medium pot to share. It gave us both about 2 cups each.We also ordered the dessert cakes: pistachio cream cake and the Caramel Chocolate cake. The cakes did not taste fresh at all. And lacked some flavor. However the star of the show was the cream cheese filled pastry. It's a combination of sweet and savory, it's the perfect pairing with any tea, coffee of latte. As a water drinker, I appreciated the water pitcher available for customers, it's very considerate. A big pro: they have their own parking lot The con: its very narrow and can only fit one way traffic at a time. But another pro is that Corrado's is right next door, and you can park in their parking lot, then walk in. I am so happy I tried this trendy Cafe. I look forward to being back.

Yelp
Found this gem after looking for a place that is open until midnight or more. The place is pretty and feels relaxing. We ordered some organic tea which is very good. Would like to come back and try their coffee!
google avatar

Anne R.

Yelp
Love the tea and coffee! And there is a nice seating area in the back to meet with friends!
google avatar

Zoha M.

Yelp
The adeni coffee and cheese bread (khaliat anahl) is really good! Be prepared for at least a 10-15 min wait if you're carrying out. It's usually hard to find a table and pretty crowded during peak hours
google avatar

Moiz T.

Yelp
Place is always packed. Adeni chai is the best. If your a group of people that are sharing at home, I recommend getting the carry out pot. It comes with 96oz in a pouring box. Inside is very nice and feels cozy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great coffee, chai, and pastries! The service is quick, and it is a nice place to hang out with friends!

Yelp
Good coffee shop but I feel bad for the staff, they're really understaffed and take forever to make the drinks

Yelp
Straight up...Great coffee Very nice & helpful staff... thanks guys. I drink My coffee black (Americano's) so it means more that coffee itself is good. It's really good. I also had a sample while waiting of something with some cardamom. Wow I'll be some of that next time for sure.

Vivianne W.

Yelp
Myself and my friend were the only Black women ordering & watched everyone else receive prompt and attentive service whilst we watched over ten minutes each for a croissant and black tea. Otherwise, atmosphere was lovely, food was pretty good.
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee house with traditional pastry options as well. Great location and good tea.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
Love this spot! Plenty of tables, plenty of drinks and pastries to choose from at a great price. My favorite are the adani chai and their homemade pastries that are kept on top of the counter (not behind the glass). Service is great and the decor is very nice. We need more Yemeni spots in Paterson!
google avatar

Jeongmin H.

Yelp
Their adeni chai is sooo tasty. Love that they're open late too! But just a heads up it might be tough finding parking and it will be pretty crowded coming in the evening hours.
google avatar

Ambika S.

Yelp
I wanted to try them from sometime.. glad it opened in Clifton. Adeni tea was so good, best part was it was like typical indian chaai, it was such a comfort to get a cup of good chaai here without the effort of making it. Their cheese samosa was really good too! Will be a regular here, loved the ambiance and place was full on Friday
google avatar

Disha K.

Yelp
Quantity is too good. Me and my husband ordered separate ones didn't realize it comes in a pot & can be shared . One pot is good enough for 3-4 people
google avatar

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
Absolutely love this new hidden gem near me! It looks tiny from the outside but it is a large cafe with plenty of seating perfect for studying/working or catching up with a group of friends. The drink selection is great but BEWARE the drinks are HOT! The staff is friendly and the music is very loud but fun to listen to. I am definitely coming back here soon!
google avatar

Asma A.

Yelp
So excited that they opened up a Qahwah house in jersey. The Brooklyn one is really good but always crowded (plus borough logistics of no parking, etc LOL). The Adeni chai is my favorite - it's on the darker side which allows you to taste all the notes. I'm looking forward to going again soon!
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to this newly opened Yemen Coffee House and much to my surprise, I was shocked to see a line at 9pm to order. This is their 6th location and already business is booming. After 20 mins, I finally ordered the junabi coffe(not pictured) and it didn't taste like the coffee we are use to drinking. It looked and tasted more like a tea and I wasn't disappointed at all. I delightfully impressed! Definitely going back to try their Yemen frappe that looooked drooling delicious
google avatar

Yahya S.

Yelp
You need to come here for all your coffee, tea, and chai needs. Been waiting for this location for what feels like over a year, ever since I first saw the sign on the building they're in (I nearly crashed my car in excitement driving by). Coffee & Tea: Just like the BK location, the coffee & tea is fantastic! Huge fan of the Adeni chai & Mofawar. Pastries: We had an assortment of pastries and all of them tasted amazing. Shoutout to the chocolate croissant, I was impressed. Also, the khaliat Alnahl is hands down better than the BK location, I think its because BK doesn't heat it up, when the khaliat is heated up or fresh its pure bliss. Decor & Ambiance: Exactly like the other Qahwah House locations, it's beautiful inside. Large Groups: Heads up the inside is smaller than Brooklyn location, indoor seating is limited so plan accordingly with large groups. I think they may add more seats later. They do have outdoor seating in the back but during the winter its not ideal without space heaters. They are open till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays so that's awesome. This is the go-to spot now, really happy they came out here. A fine addition to Clifton/Paterson community.

Yelp
Phenomenal coffee and people that work there. The pastries are amazing. I tried the coconut cake and cream cheese filled bread topped with honey

Rebecca P.

Yelp
My god, this place is amazing. The coffee and chai are so delicious. The pastries are heavenly. We will be back!

Yelp
Excellent coffee and desserts Perfect for late night, after dinner hangouts Will recommend

Yelp
comfy vibes and open late. drinks/food are good too! parking is kind of annoying tho bc of the area.
