Where to Eat and Drink in Oceanside

"Located on the ground floor of the charming Brick Hotel, this cozy, casual bar is open in the evenings for seasonal cocktails, New Orleans classics like po boys or chicken man, and of course, oysters. Showcasing regional shellfish from the Gulf, West, and East coasts, oysters can be ordered raw or cooked Rockefeller-style or charbroiled. You can also order from Q&A Oyster Bar when you’re having drinks at Frankie’s next door." - Helen I. Hwang

Google
A great oyster bar for happy hour! With our group of 8 on a Sunday evening, everything was delicious and service was very friendly and accommodating. It's a wonderfully decorated restaurant but parking around the area can be a tiny bit annoying. There was a very drunk dude who approached our table and started harassing us for a couple of minutes. I'm not sure if the staff didn't notice but it was quite awkward and called us some derogatory terms so that left a very bad taste in our dinner. Food: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Value: 8/10

The mimosas were very standard. Didn’t taste like fresh or homemade juice but wish it had been. I tried the Cajun spice oysters and I’ve had much better. I expected a lot more for a place that had so many oyster options. It tasted overcooked and the seasoning wasn’t good. My friends tried the ceviche version of raw oysters and those were much better. They were too spicy for me and mostly just ceviche but they were good. I also got raw pacific oysters and they were just fine taste wise but nothing to write home about. All in all, I’d go somewhere else with higher ratings next time.

Fun spot. Great bartender but understaffed for sure! This is a small place. Has an outdoor patio but it's a bit cold just yet. They take reservations but it doesn't really mean anything. Suggest going early-ish.

My husband and I saw a flier for Q & A's Mardi Gras party yesterday and went for it! We were not disappointed at all and had an amazing time. The food was very flavorful and the drinks were delicious. I had the gumbo bowl and will be back for more! I am so thankful the Hurricane I had to drink was not overly sweet and was so good I had another one! The staff was very attentive and very nice, and the music was wonderful too. We had such a great time and will be bringing our friends here from now on. Thank you for a wonderful time! 💛

Google
Oysters we’re fairly good, nothing amazing that you need to run out and try. The hot sauce on top, is incredible however. I would gladly buy a bottle of that to put on numerous things at home. The burger was well cooked and the sauce was very nice. Drinks were excellent. Had the painkilla and margarita and both were made very well. Atmosphere top tier. The aesthetic is chic and trendy, while not particular New Orleans vibes, it is very inviting and picture worthy. Service was great, hostess and our serve were very helpful, patient, and kind.

Google
We had the Pacific Rockefeller Oysters, Catch of the day, Fried Chicken Sandwich, and French Beignets. The Pacific Rockefeller Oysters were the best part of the meal. The Catch of the day had Cajun Seasoning and was delish. Our server, Trevor, was attentive to our needs and offered good recommendations as this was our first time here. I definitely recommend coming here if it’s for food or just for drinks.

Made reservations for a Saturday dinner on Labor Day weekend with some friends. It was 6pm, and the week has been so hot I was honestly worried that the restaurant wasn't going to have A/C (some places don't this close to the beach). We checked in at the front stand (which is used for both Q&Q and Cococabana), and we're seated in side. I was very happy to see they did have air-conditioning and because we had reservations and showed up on-time, we got a nice booth right in the middle of the restaurant. There's limited seating inside by the bar, but there's a patio out back with several tables (no A/C back there though). The back patio is quite plain (see my photo) and doesn't have any of the same character as the inside. One note about our booth: we had four of us and we were seated at a booth with a large steel I-beam which made it difficult for all of us to fit. This booth is more for three people than four. Try to avoid this table unless you're middle person is a kid and can see against the I-beam to make room for everyone else. We ordered drinks all around. I got the PainKilla, which was absolutely the best drink at the table. On our next round, everyone ordered the PainKilla. We also ordered six (6) oysters, and had them charbroiled. I asked our server which of the types of oysters were the larged, and she said the Pacific, which was also the most expensive. When they came, the oysters were tiny (see photo)...I mean what the hell. Super disappointed in them. We ordered entrees. I really wanted to get the Dragos or the Frenchmen Strip, but at $68 and $55 respectively, and after eating these tiny little oysters - I didn't want to risk having a bad entree so I went with the Crawfish Garlic Wings ($21), which came covered in a creamy crawfish garlic sauce. The sauce was excellent and I really wish I had more of it on the plate. I ate three wings and was already stuffed. We also ordered the Uptown Gumbo ($19), Shrimp Creole and Grits ($23) and the Smoked Gouda Mac ($12). Everything was good. Personally I've made gumbo before and I think my version is better but overall each dish was very good. The mac n' cheese is a great size if you bring a kid. They even have Jambalaya as a side dish. There isn't a lot of draft beers unfortunately. There's only five on the menu. The pina colada hazy IPA was excellent however and I would order that again. Service was great. Our server Alicia was very attentive and even brought me a sample of the IPA in a shot glass before I ordered it. Bill came to $300 before tip, which is pretty steep. There is a 10% surcharge on the bill to "support increased wages and benefits", which I think is just not necessary. Just increase the prices of your plates. Normally I would have given 3 stars for this place. The I-beam situation, the tiny oysters and the surcharge are all annoying traits, HOWEVER this is one of the best people-watching spots...especially on a Saturday night. We had scores of folks walking past us to get to the elevator for Cococabana, so that definitely keeps you entertained (I even saw someone with a baby carriage) and bumped the 3 stars up to 4 for me. We will definitely come back to Q&A for a round 2...

Google
The food was fantastic! We were told they just got a new menu. Literally every item we got was delicious. The Gulf oysters charbroiled, yum! The steak au poivre, the Paparadelle pasta - we got shrimp on top and even those had the best seasoning on them and cooked to perfection. And do t get me started on the Mac and cheese- I don't even eat that normally but I tried it because it came with the steak and it was the yummiest!!! The seasoning on everything was perfect. The only downside is we were there when there was a street party in the alley next to the restaurant which was ridiculously loud. We're not from Oceanside , so I don't know how often that goes on.

Yelp
This place had a great vibe and ambience. Decor was fun. Rockefeller oysters were ok- wouldn't get them again. I was hoping from a crispness at the top due to them being cooked. The charred oysters were really good. Raw oysters were good as expected and well shucked. The fried chicken was the win of the table but I felt it was a bit too sweet for me. But it was a really good fried chicken. Cajun pasta was creamy and good but wouldn't order as solo dish. Loved the Mac and cheese. Broccoli was amazing and brussel sprouts were good. I got gumbo which was very flavorful. Banana bread old fashion fell a little flat for me. The service was pretty slow unfortunately. Beignet can be skipped

Yelp
4 of us went for my birthday. The food was delicious! The service, very slow, which is why they didn't receive 5 stars. The place is small, not many tables, so there wasn't any reason we couldn't get better service. When she did come, she was great. I just feel at the price point, we shouldn't be flagging down our server. The place is small. Now to the food... SOOOOO good. The oysters were really tasty. We tried all the varieties and decided the natural way was the best if you really like oysters. The others, tasted like the seasonings and you lose the flavor of the sea. The catfish was perfectly cooked and the dessert.... mu-ah! Chef's kiss! Tips - Make a reservation. The place is really small. Try the raw oysters - they are really good. Share with your friends... there's lots of tasty things to try!

Yelp
Great food. Great drinks. Great vibe. Q & A Oyster Restaurant and Oyster Bar offers a great selection of fresh oysters and New Orleans style Cajun. Complemented by a selection of craft cocktails, various beers and a few wines, they bring something unique to the Oceanside area. The layout, decor, playlist and service took me straight to NOLA. My wife and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. We sat at a booth by the open-air window, so the sea breeze was a nice bonus. We started off with two Cherry Blossom Martinis (great choice!) paired with Charbroiled Oysters and Oysters Rockefeller. I'd highly recommend trying both, but they have a few other oyster options available. After that we split the Fish of the Day, which was a rockfish, fried Brussels and a Caesar Salad. The salad was worth trying just to taste those homemade cheddar biscuit croutons. Simply put, everything held up to the NOLA style expectations that the vibe set. While the food was a little too heavy for my liking and I'm generally not a fan of cajun cooking, I have to pay credit where credit is due. They delivered with great flavor and I still enjoyed my meal. If you're in the area, I recommend stopping by for dinner or happy hour sometime soon.

Yelp
I was looking in my camera roll for the food pictures I took but I am not sure where it is. It isn't in my deleted folder either. Very weird But anyway, came here on a Tuesday since it's happy hour prices all day and I have been wanting to eat Nawlins food. I also had a gift card. Service was quick, there was one table left and we were sat there promptly. For appetizer, we ordered 2 orders of the chargrilled oysters and the seasoning was good but it was really tiny. I am not sure gulf oysters were even used for that. I ate them all myself in 2 seconds. We had 2 orders of fried chicken and it came with biscuits. The biscuits were burnt, and was black on the bottom and pretty dry. The wing had a nice sweet honey flavor but it was not crunchy whereas the boneless thigh it came with, tasted like it was refried. Also had an order of chicken biscuit, which is basically the fried chicken thigh in the biscuit, without the wings part. The half steak sandwich was ok, pretty tiny for the price. The best thing I tasted there (or so I thought) was the friend catfish, came out in a nice presentation. But when I heated up the next day and ate the leftover, it was pretty salty. I think my taste bud was covered by the premade hibiscus margarita I had.

Yelp
My family came here for an early Father's Day dinner and we were so impressed with everything! Although I wish there were a few more options for non-seafood eaters (my mom) we managed to order a few sides and made it work. She actually tried and loved many of the oysters. I will always come back here, it's one of my favorites!

Yelp
Finally got a chance to come check out this new NOLA style restaurant in the old brick building here in Oceanside. Place is small with cool decor and fresh jams playing in the background. The food, I was fortunate to have had the chance to try a variety of items as we ordered a bunch of different items and shared them all. The food looked great and tasted great paired with some on par service we had an excellent time. Probably my favorite meal I've tried so far is the Dragos. Whole lobster with Cajun pasta dropped on top! Damn this thing is fire! Def enough for two or to share.

Yelp
Was attending a concert in the area and decided to drop by this place to eat. It's a small restaurant connected to a hotel but the food is amazing. Paige was our server and she was very nice and attentive. We ordered several orders of CHARBROILED OYSTERS- cajun spice, garlic lemon butter and parmesan HOT CHICKEN BISCUIT- fried chicken, bacon, cheese, crystals aioli OSIDE BURGER - two pan-seared patties, cheddar cheese, pickle, tomato, onions, lettuce, burger spread The food was delicious! We sampled/shared everything. The oysters were very good and tasty, just small compared to the ones in New Orleans. The chicken sandwich was delicious and flavorful and the burger was darn good! Glad we shared everything as it was all filling and yummy!! I would definitely come back! Kudos to the staff and chef.

Yelp
We will be back!! It's a super sweet spot nestled in the streets of Oceanside. Very clean, staff is all super friendly. The food... Wow, every bite made your taste buds dance. There was four of us, we had the special catch of the day, wild caught crawfish linguine in cajun alfredo, and wings. Everyone of us were satisfied beyond our expectations. The drinks were perfection too! We had rosemary mezcal cocktails, espresso martini's, and very good tequila sips. Let's not forget about the OYSTERS! Served on ice... Yummy!! A great evening. Thank you Rich!

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday and went upstairs to enjoy the rooftop views. If you are into aesthetics this is the spot. The views and vibes were gorgeous. They do have a Sunday brunch menu so we opted to grab some oysters and a drink. Our server was nice, and responsive when we needed anything. We ordered half a dozen oysters Rockefeller and half a dozen raw oysters. We opted for Pacific oysters and they were delicious. We also each ordered an espresso martini which came with 2 beignets. The drinks were very strong in my opinion and served warm. The beignets were tiny, but tasty.

Yelp
Popped into Q&A for their happy hour and we were very surprised by the ambiance and how good the food is. We sat outside in their patio and succulent garden which was a vibe in itself. It's also connected to Stone Brewery which is convenient. Their happy hour is pretty solid! $7 for 3 oysters, which were chargrilled and seasoned well. Came with a little slice of bread as well. The chicken wings were extremely flavorful with some crawfish dressing and Parmesan. Old fashioned was great as well, nice hint of mint and sugar that paired well with the whiskey. They have great deals throughout the week that we are going to come back and try.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Oceanside. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is fantastic. The oysters are fresh and tasty, and their happy hour is one of the best around for food and cocktails. The charbroiled oysters are a hit and the vibe is simply a vibe! If you're in Oceanside, stop by and enjoy the ambiance and the delicious food and drinks.

Yelp
Went for dinner and will likely be back. While it seemed a bit understaffed, Carly and Sydney were wonderful. We were disappointed they took the shrimp and grits off the menu. Mom was craving it (she'd had it before) and really wanted me to try the dish. Instead she got the hot chicken biscuit, I got the jerk chicken Cesar, and we split the Mac and cheese. The salad was good. A huge portion which I couldn't finish and unfortunately dressed salads don't keep for leftovers. The cheddar biscuit croutons were a great idea but the char made them bitter, which isn't a flavor I choose often. Mom's sandwich was tasty and I want to try that next time. The Mac and cheese was sooooooo good. I'm really happy it came in a small dish because it is pretty rich. The beignets were decent. To me they tasted a bit like beer, which is likely just yeast. But I don't drink and don't particularly like the taste of beer (I'm weird, I know). BUT the jam really helped them out. The texture of the pastries were perfect. A thin layer of crispy goodness and soft fluff inside. The service was slow. However neither Sydney or Carly were being lazy. They were slammed the entire time we were there. And while I would have been overwhelmed if I were them, they were fun, and nice, and I enjoyed their company. I also really liked the ambiance of the place. Clean, stylish, and comfortable.

Yelp
Best chargrilled oysters I've had outside of New Orleans. Great vibe, can't beat the music and the happy hour is KILLER - dare I say maybe the best one in Oceanside?? Get the half steak sammie and the chicken biscuit! The crawfish garlic wings are also insane - must try! Carly & Sydney were beyond helpful and so friendly.

Yelp
Birthday brunch! Mimosas!!! Delicious food, great drinks and great service. They take reservations!

Yelp
I'll start with commending our waiter, bless his heart. He covered the entire front section of the restaurant ALONE!! He is the only reason I'm giving any stars. There were 2 large parties, my party of 3, and few tables with couples. We were sat at a small table and everything we ordered barely fit on the table. Bar: the bar staff seemed uninterested in engaging with patrons and preferred to talk with each other instead. The bar menu offers alcohol that isn't served. We wanted to order blantons because we rarely see it on the menu. We were so excited but quickly let down and told they don't serve it. If you have to use the bathroom be prepared to wait. There is only 1 unisex bathroom. As for the food menu, there is an item listed twice and seems just to be an over sight. For the price of the seafood dishes I expected better service and better food. Food: Side of Jambalaya- There was so much garlic it made the dish bitter and over powered everything else in the dish. I had to send the dish back. It wasn't edible. I love garlic, but my goodness this was too much. The chef did send out another order of the jambalaya but the second dish was no better than the 1st. I was told that the chef remade the dish and "even added granulated garlic" . Maybe they thought I was a vampire and wanted to get rid of me ‍. I had to send the second dish back as well. Our server did ask if I wanted to take it home but there was no way I could eat it. -Mac and cheese was mediocre at best. -Catfish was SUPER salty. -Yams- undercooked, dry and bland. We had to remind our waiter twice that we were missing our yams. Raw Pacific Oysters- nothing worth mentioning. I'm disappointed because I've heard great things about this place and left absolutely deflated. I have absolutely no interest in returning. To my server, you did everything you could and I appreciate your service.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to a great dining experience at this restaurant, but unfortunately, it fell short. The food was severely lacking in seasoning, which made it difficult to enjoy. We ended up having to use a sauce from another dish just to make our pasta taste decent. As someone who has had authentic Louisiana cuisine before, I was underwhelmed by the flavor and quality of the food here. Overall, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money on this restaurant. It's not even close to the real deal.

Yelp
I've been dying to try this place and so glad I finally did! So many mouth watering menu options! I loved every single dish I tried! Luckily I came with a big group and had the opportunity of sharing many items. The Dragos which is the lobster pasta was delicious and my favorite! The presentation was amazing and the taste even better! Lots of big chunks of lobster and the pasta cooked perfectly! Believe it or not, I've never had gumbo. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'm my opinion is this gumbo was awesome! I ate almost half the bowl! Lol The oysters were super yummy and cooked well. The soft shelled crab salad was perfect! My second favorite item was the Frenchman strip steak! This was off the hook delicious! It was cooked perfectly and so tender! The sauce was so flavorful. I loved every bite! The service was great! Our sever was very attentive and friendly! I really enjoyed the overall vibe and decor. The restaurant is as packed so others must agree! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Cody was amazing! The food was amazing as well. It was my first time trying oysters and they were delicious.

Yelp
Fantastic Happy Hour prices! Even on the weekends they offer bottomless espresso martinis. Prices for food on their happy hour are really great. I loved their oysters. It made me feel like I was bad in New Orleans.

Yelp
Love the oysters and anything else I can fit in my belly!! I'll be back again and again and again

Yelp
I was so disappointed after counting down to the first weekend my husband and I were able to make date night at Q&A! First and foremost, even having looked at the menu beforehand, I was shocked at the cost for the quality of food. We ordered the alligator bites (a special that evening) only to find out they were $30+ for an appetizer sized plate. The oysters were reasonably priced but they were just so average. Would not go back for them. The fried catfish was good but also not worth the price. The service was really unimpressive. We ordered 2 martinis and two dozen oysters (one dozen atlantic and one dozen pacific). The oysters came out so quickly, but still no water or drinks. I think it's pretty normal to NOT bring the food out if we haven't gotten a cocktail yet (it took a while for the server to come to us, but after ordering I think the oysters took 7 minutes). Our drinks were finally ready but the server brings only one over, saying he forgot to order the other one and it was coming. The bartender made it quickly and then it just sat. And sat. And sat. The bartender had come out from behind the bar to chat with some friends at a booth while our server was MIA and our drink just sat there. We finally caved and started eating our oysters and I think we had about 4 oysters total left when we got the second drink. All of this was exacerbated by the fact that a 5 top had sat down before we had come in (it sounded like they'd been there for about 5 minutes from what they were saying). They got their second round of drinks (with food) before the second of our first order of drinks even came out. The server was extremely attentive to their table and despite them being all of 3 feet away he just casually ignored us for a while and got them settled. The service was fine by the end of the meal, but the food before drinks coupled with the lack of attention in general AND the food being mediocre... if we return (which we likely won't), we would sit at the bar so someone actually remembers you're there. So, so bummed that this turned out like this because we had such high hopes and were so confused by the low ratings online given that my one friend had said such great things.
google avatar

Tonya H.

Yelp
I came in with high hopes. I had eaten here before and experienced the most deliciousness, but today I wish I would've picked somewhere else for Mother's Day. I was sooooo disappointed. If I could give today's visit less stars I would have. We came in hungry ready for the infamous shrimp n grits, which I bragged about before to my southern born Mama. Well apparently, it's no longer on the menu. Why??? I don't understand stand how a southern creole restaurant doesn't have shrimp n grits. And for it to be one of the best items on the menu. It was sooooo good. Only the brunch menu was available, I get it. Limited and inflexible. My mother wanted her egg scrambled instead of over easy with the hash and was told it couldn't be done. So she chose the omelette. If only I took photos of my mother's sad, little, cold dry omelette she ended up with. Also served with no accompaniment and my limp soggy chicken waffle sandwich (removed from the tab) which was also cold. The only saving grace was my son tried oysters and loved them. I'm local and want to support our growing community and minority owned businesses, this experience made me sad.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
The place was busy on a Friday night. Why does Oceanside now have all these mini restaurants with little capacity? So the host said I could only sit at the bar for one hour. The bartender was nice enough. The menu is all oysters with some crab add ons. I went for simple: a half dozen Atlantic oysters. The good news, they were fresh. The bad news is they were kind of small. I got a coke, which was out of a bottle. The only disappointment was that this restaurant has decided to add a 5% service charge instead of raising menu pricing. All this resulted in a 15% tip instead of a 20% tip. Don't put on me to pay your employees' salary. I'm pretty sure that the 5% isn't seen by any employee.
google avatar

Jaiden N.

Yelp
Ambience is modern and sleek. I sat at the bar and ordered some of the charbroiled oysters and the fried catfish. The catfish was a bit bready but still tasted good. The oysters were very tasty with all the garnishes as well. I originally ordered other oysters (raw) but they never came out. I was already full so I asked our server to just take it off. Might have been just a fluke but I was looking forward to some raw oysters tonight. Our server/bartender was fast and quick to seat and help us. We didn't get her name but she had blue highlights. She was a very good worker making sure the room was well maintained and that her customers were satisfied. Overall great experience, I would like to come here again for the raw oysters next time though!

Yelp
Came in on Wednesday for happy hour, sydney was AMAZING, although she was the only server she made sure we were taken care of, would definitely recommend this spot!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know if the Louisiana chef is gone. But this place is awful. Nothing was as listed on the menu. One person got a menu that doesn't exist. No one who ordered wings got a full order. And the sauce was different on all. Gumbo was listed as chicken and sausage but had shrimp in it. Griffin made up for it a bit. But won't go back for food.
google avatar

Alma P.

Yelp
The half steak sandwich was good. Highly recommended the Mac n Cheese. Ask for Cody, server was very detailed on food recommendations.

Yelp
We had a 7:45pm reservation was seated right away. It took some time for a waiter to check on us so we decided that the ladies would go an wash their hands only to find that there is only one unisex bathroom. Once someone did finally ask to take our drink order I wanted to order a Bourbon "Blantons" that was on the menu , however, when I ordered it the waiter couldn't find it checked with the bartender who rudely said "NO". Then the food came out.... I ordered the Shrimp Creole and Grits which was actually a bowl of grits with 3 shrimp. You would think that you could get more than 3 shrimp of $23.92. My Son ordered the think cut Cat Fish, Yams and Mac & Cheese, his girlfriend order a side of Jambalaya and 6 Oysters. The waiter brought out the Cat Fish, put the Mac & Cheese on the same dish as the Jambalaya. After almost 10 minutes, maybe longer had to ask the waiter about the yams and when they finally arrived they were hard.. My Sons' girlfriend had to send back the Jambalaya because it was like eating a bowl of garlic. The catfish was so salty that my Son had to load it up with hot sauce. The drinks we ordered were ok but nothing to brag about. I said all that to that I paid $135.20 plus tax. I was going to add a tip because the menu states that 5% surcharge will be added to each check. I added a tip in addition to the 5% because it's not the waiters fault that they didn't have more waiters on staff. Will I go back...NOPE!
google avatar

Vanessa B.

Yelp
The food was pretty good but I don't think I'd go back. The oysters tasted good, but most of the other food just seemed to be overloaded with Cajun seasoning. The ambience was nice for a small group but felt crowded for our group of 6. Servers were all very kind.

Yelp
Great spot for a date night. Food 5/5 Price 5/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 3/5 We arrived 10 min late (due to parking, recommend getting there early to park) and unfortunately they had already given away our inside reservation so we were sat outside. Outside ambiance is a bit sterile, especially for a date night- recommend adding some more plants and string lights. It would be good to be outside if you had kids though! The food IS REALLY GOOD. We got the oysters poppa- which are grilled, spicy with lime - I usually don't love grilled oysters but I'm pregnant and these surprised me! We got the broccoli rob as another appetizer and it was also spicy and really awesome, we could not stop eating the sauce. For our main meal we got the Dragos lobster pasta and it was amazing, you must get it! Creamy fettuccini with a whole lobster- perfect size for 2. Our service was a little off, we were rushed to order and when our food came, we didn't have utensils to eat with both courses and had to ask. Our lobster didn't come with anything to open the lobster with so we had to use hands (which is ok normally but not when covered in fettuccini sauce!) I think since it's so new they are still working out the kinks. Overall, the food was amazing and I want to come back and try more of the menu! And some drinks!

Yelp
My husband and I LOVE oysters. We finally had a date night without our daughter and decided to go here for the first time. We ordered a dozen oysters, magnolia oyster shooters and some drinks. Let's start off with the fact that I couldn't even do my oyster shooter because of how horribly the oysters were shucked. Pieces of shell all in it and they were all still attached. We were super nervous of our oysters that were coming and once again, shells in several of them. I couldn't even continue to eat them and even had to spit one of them out because of the shells in my mouth. The drinks however were really good and the service was really great. The rest of the menu looked really good but can't even fathom coming back after spending $150 on poorly shucked oysters. Yuck.

Yelp
First time actually posting on Yelp simply because I'm so baffled at our experience. This was my husband and I's favorite spot and I doubt we'll ever be back. We love the food, drinks are fantastic, and the vibe & aesthetics are great. We have been in with Amy bartending (I think that's her name), and she's a freakin rockstar. However, we went in last night and had overall the worst time at a bar or restaurant, ever. Sat at the middle of the bar, got served by a male bartender and then was promptly ignored for the next 45 min to an hour. We were going to order food, but decided to head home. I took my credit card out and laid it on the bartop so he could see we were ready to pay out. Another 10 min go by and nothing, he does eventually grab my card, looks to start running it through the computer, but got sidetracked or something and started doing something else. We wait another few minutes and my husband respectfully asked him if we can close out. I don't know what the bartender's deal was but it went downhill from there. He loudly asked "yeah man, what's your problem?" and then THREW my credit card at me. He then called over for the bouncer and told him to get us out of there. Imagine asking to pay out your bill so you can leave after being ignored all night and getting KICKED OUT of the restaurant. Absolutely insane behavior by the bartender. I have over a decade of experience in the service industry. I totally understand that workers are humans, we all have bad days. But this was so, so unnecessary and unacceptable. The trend in these reviews seem to be service and staffing. A cute spot and good food only lasts so long until people are treated like crap and stop coming in, especially when there's thousands of other options in the local area - I'd hate to see that happen.

Yelp
Hit me with a 5% surcharge that was not disclosed ahead of time and a) You get one star, b) You get the 5% charged back from my Visa issuer, and c) You'll never have me walk through your doors again. If you need to pass on you cost of doing business then raise your already extortionate prices so your customers are able to decide how much they spend based on item cost/portion size/quality. If you can't figure out how to run your business by being forthright instead of charging devious, hidden fees you're hoping your customers won't notice, then maybe you need to get out of your current line of work. I don't see a lot of hardware stores around these days. Maybe open one of those instead? Audacious.

Yelp
Amy was so great and personable and her service was top notch ! She really made us feel welcomed. We loved our dining experience sitting up at the bar with her and the burger is smash burger style and it's arguably better than in n out !! I sipped on a kiwi sour and I was a very happy lady. 5 stars all around. I will be coming back :) thanks !

Yelp
I'm writing this review because I love this restaurant, I want to see it do well, but you guys need to tie up these loose ends - My mom, husband, and I waited at the host stand for over 6 minutes before anyone said anything to us or greeted us. Someone at least should have acknowledged us. After we were finally seated, another customer arrived and was stuck waiting at the host stand for a few minutes. After waiting, she walked up to the bar and asked if she had to seat herself. The staff should have at least acknowledged customers while they are waiting in the front. - We ordered gumbo. Took a while before it came out, and when it did it was cold. - We asked for a couple extra spoons so we could share the gumbo. The waiter told us "he would try". He later came back to our table without the extra spoons. We asked where they were. He said the kitchen ran out and that he needs to find spoons to have them washed. That is ridiculous. 2:30 pm on a Sunday and the restaurant was not crowded. Why do you all not have extra spoons available? - I ordered a drink. 20 min later, I still had not received my drink so I asked about it. The waiter walked to the bar, picked up my drink and gave it to me. Since it had been sitting out, the drink was watered down - There were bees flying around the restaurant I am making this review because the quality and potential of this restaurant does not deserve this type of service. In my perspective, all of the aforementioned occurrences were a result of laziness and/or lack of awareness. I hope you guys get it together.

Yelp
Excellent food - excellent attentive service - we sat outside under heaters. The patio provided a nice ambience to dine by! The cajon inspired food was excellently prepared! The oysters were just ok.

Yelp
Made a reservation for two, my husband and I for a special date night. We were late due to traffic accident. Tried to call and no answer. Tattooed and rude Hostess/bartender tended to us. She didn't care about the fact that we chose to eat at that establishment and support the business. She was very cold and brazen to offer the worst of tables since we had lost of reservation due to a 15 minute policy. As a result, we left. Management: please instill and educate in your young staff that there is better and polite way of executing demeanor, tone, and handling things. She seemed pleased at our dismay. We left and chose to support another local business who greeted us with love and warmth. Understand that you are in business because of customer support. We want to see this place succeed.

Yelp
Growing up in Oceanside, I have seen how it has changed! Now with all these developments, it's like becoming a place to come to! All these places to eat! Ever since I've heard this place was coming, I had this on my list to try! We made a reservation on Open Table. It's a small place, so definitely make a reservation. I made a reservation for the patio. It was pretty spaced out and felt it was more roomy. Although there were not too many tables outside. The table was bigger, which is a plus, cuz if you know us, we order a few items and it's kinda annoying when the plates are so huge and they don't fit on the table! Also, because the patio is next to Stone Brewing, we could hear the music that was playing. Anyways, this is what we got: Charbroiled oysters and oysters rockefeller. Our server recommended the West Coast (Pacific) oysters because they're the biggest. These were so good! Between the two styles, I liked the charbroiled ones cuz it was just simply prepared with cajun spice, garlic lemon butter and parmesan. Yum! Thin cut catfish. These are like fried catfish tenders! I like the batter was not too much. Had a nice flavor. Crawfish garlic wings. Just as it sounds, it has a creamy crawfish garlic sauce. It is served with fries. They give you 8 pieces. This is definitely different than any other wings we've had. This was tasty too! Beignets. We got the last order! Yes! Had to have dessert! I think I could've licked the powdered sugar off the plate! So, if you're up in the area, definitely check them out!!

Yelp
This place is great and has a great happy hour! Karley is an amazing bartender! Must try's are the steak sandwich, broiled oysters, and the mint julep old fashioned.

Yelp
The I-beam situation, the tiny oysters and the surcharge are all annoying traits. Also none of us had cell service, and the wi-fi wasn't setup yet as we were told. HOWEVER this is one of the best people-watching spots...especially on a Saturday night. We had scores of folks walking past us to get to the elevator for Cococabana, so that definitely keeps you entertained (I even saw someone with a baby carriage) and bumped the 3 stars up to 4 for me. We will definitely come back to Q&A for a round 2...

Yelp
FOOD OUTSTANDING SERVICE POOR Love or reallllllly trying to love this new beautiful restaurant - built with a passion for stylish hip design and fabulous, delicious soulful food. But, #1 is customer service= NEED management on duty - you are new! Sun 12:30 had reservations - no one at the door to greet or welcome us. Waited a bit and finally walked to the end of the bar and spoke with the gal bartender. She pointed to the last table open - a high top at the front of the restaurant. There was not a "reservation sign" on the table, but since it was the only table open, we gladly jumped to sit there and were happy we got a seat- because all the tables were filled. Whoa, the bartender also server??? disaster..heard someone quit,,,,this IS UNACCEPTABLE - she just could not do IT ALL. Where was the management? She did her best, but felt, as she was new....we wanted more dedicated service- explanation of the menu - drink suggestions ----SELL ME! SEDUCE ME WITH THE FOOD.... she JUST could not do it. I felt so bad - management put her in a situation to fail! Where is the manager talking to the tables---helping, selling- being a runner, busboy, greeter? Nada.... except for a beautiful lovely blonde gal who said she did not work there but was "helping" out. An angel- so welcoming - thoughtful, professional- SHE SHOULD OF BEEN THE MANAGER. (Subsequently, I found out she is a bartender upstairs) Hire her!!!!!!!!!!! She IS MANAGEMENT MATERIAL PERIOD. Loved her! Finished our drinks and food (could have eaten more!!), and were curious about upstairs- and WHOA, WOW so fantastic! Breathtaking views, great service, fun cocktails, great music, But it is not the same restaurant...no matter---hope to come back and sample their food. LOVE the sunset shooters they provided...so cool! Just a fun hip vibe----with service! There is a lot of new energy in downtown Oceanside - yet many closed businesses as well, however, happy to see many new businesses, shops, pubs, hotels, and restaurants popping up and it is exciting to see our town be a destination...we have struggled too long. Q & A you have a gold mine - hear these comments, because I want you to succeed - one customer is too many to lose--do better and they will come! Pamela Force

Yelp
The food was phenomenal! We had the pacific oysters, the thin cut catfish and the shrimp jambalaya risotto. I would definitely visit again to try the rest of the menu as these dishes were superb. Alongside our meal, we tried the Praline Old Fashioned, Diamonds & Pearls, and Painkilla. These cocktails were sweet but tasty. Unfortunately , the bartender couldn't make a gin martini to save his life. I guess you cant win them all. Lol. The service provided by Richard was friendly and knowledgeable. The only down side to our visit was how short staffed they were. I think Richard may have been the only server working that evening. If so, he deserves a round of applause and a raise because he made his rounds to each table without too much of a delay and never made us feel rushed. All in all, I recommend you try Q&A for yourself as I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Yelp
First of all, the service was awesome! Sara (bartender) did an amazing job and was fun. We worked through the happy hour menu, I highly recommend the hot chicken biscuit sandwich. Drinks were tasty. The gumbo was also good, I added a little extra spice as they provide hot sauce bottles on the table. 5 stars, highly recommended. No Coors light. But they do have some high quality local beers.

Yelp
I had been here before and loved everything. I don't know what may be happening but not the same. No shrimp and grits anymore? Short on help. Slower service. I want to see them succeed but curious on the change. Food still has great taste

Yelp
Went here last night for their $1.50 oyster special. Cute place. Only 1 server so the service was slow. We ordered a dozen raw oysters and 6 Rockefeller. At no time was it made clear to us that they were out of the $1.50 oysters. Upon paying we were shocked at the price of our bill. My husband asked to see the itemized copy. And was told she would print it after it went through. He saw we were charged full price for the oysters and asked about it. He was told they were already out of the $1.50 oysters when we ordered. Never were we informed, how they were still able to serve us is unclear. Long story short. Shady operations. Not worth the hassle. Would not go back or recommend. Full ownership wasn't taken. We asked for an itemized receipt. It wasn't provided until after payment was received. We were not told ever that the special was sold out. We asked specifically what the oyster deal was. No rudeness was exchanged on either end. The server ran away when asked for clarification about the bill. The manager took control and handled the situation very well. We thanked her. The shade resulted from handing the handheld payment terminal over already at the tip mode. Then being asked multiple times for an itemized receipt. She knew exactly what she was doing. Small business does not exclude you from following the rules. Everyone involved in this situation knows that they were being shady. Hence the free oysters. We did not come into your business looking for free oysters. We were pumped to find a new place. And were let down.

Yelp
The pasta was super yummy! My husband got the fried catfish which was also good. The drink I got was okay, I was expecting something different based off the photos I saw. Pretty cool it comes with an oyster though. Service was a little slow but wasn't really a big deal. The place is really small but the style & ambiance is really cool!

Yelp
This is one of my new favorite places. The food is amazing! Their happy hour is great and the wednesday oyster deal is hard to beat! the drinks are delicious too. I am looking forward to going over the weekend for their bottomless espresso martinis (they're so good!).The place is very chill, nice music, clean, and has a cool and unique look. The service could be a lot better. I have been a few times and it does vary per day. The hostesses seem kind of clueless as to where to seat customers and the some of the bartenders/servers are slow and not familiar with the menu. I always make a rez to be on the safe side but there's usually no wait.

Yelp
This was our first time here. We wanted to try the new HH. Like many others have said, the oysters are small. But if you get them with the HH... not such a bad deal. The fried chicken with the honey chili oil is divine! The gumbo was excellent! I'm used to thy gumbo that is brown and kinda thick. This was smoky and full of shrimp, crayfish, sausage, chicken, and rice. The drinks are lovely. The old-fashioned and pomegranate margarita were really good! We'll be back and stick to the HH menu. I'm pretty frugal and the regular menu seems too steep for what you get.
