This QFC has been gradually becoming my favorite grocery store in the area. It's large for a city grocery store and has a good selection. Recently they added more parking, which had been an issue, and we never have trouble finding parking now. Parking is for 90 minutes, which can be a bit tight if you have other U Village errands to run also, but for just grocery shopping it's adequate.
I really like the deli here, and there's a large seating area (which includes a Starbucks) where you can sit and eat. I especially like the Boar's Head wraps and sandwiches - while you can build your own, there are quite a few tasty pre-made choices named after Seattle and Washington places like "The Yakima" and "The Ballard."
I love the bakery and the cheese counter that they added a few years ago. The floral department is pretty to walk through and has a lot of nice options. I might be a bit biased because I bought a yellow and pink rose here the first time I asked my partner out, and I still have it nearly 8 years later (now very dried).
Prices on basic items like milk, eggs, and bread can be higher here than at Safeway, but Safeway's prices have been edging up as well so the difference doesn't seem as marked as it once did. This QFC often has great prices on produce, and a large selection with a good number of interesting items, including items you'd normally only see at an Asian grocery like jackfruit. Last week green peppers were only 50 cents each! They also occasionally have sales for sections of the store like the butcher counter.
The wine, beer, and cider selection within the store is great, but the liquor situation is strange. QFC bought the former Washington State liquor store around the corner, and somehow they've made it worse. I went to the UW and used to always buy drinks for parties there, and the atmosphere always felt pretty friendly and jovial -- I mean, it was full of college kids buying booze. Now, there are bars on the windows and doors which I don't remember being there before, and the bluish lighting and carpets somehow seem depressing. The aisles are narrow and the staff have been rude. I know the picture on my ID is not the most flattering ever (I kind of have bug-eyes since I was trying hard to keep them open, and my hair looks bad; I'm glad I'll be replacing it this year) but one of them actually laughed when he saw it :( There's also no way to enter the liquor store from within the main QFC.
The sushi here is better than you'll find at most grocery stores (there's a bigger selection and it's actually made in the store), and while I'm not Jewish, I'm glad that there's a store here with such a large kosher selection for those who need it. Also, you can get really good deals at the day-old bakery sale section (located near the freezer aisles); I regularly buy Macrina bakery bread loaves there, and last week I got an 8 inch pumpkin pie for $1.79 that still tasted quite good!
I'm rounding up to 5 stars, since I really can't think of a better all-purpose grocery store in the area - but the liquor situation would need to be improved for me to truly love this store.
