Yelp
Came here yesterday for lunch because there was no wait compared to other places nearby. And actually, Qin West Noodle has been on my list to try for a while! It's a chain, they have several locations. They had multiple menus plastered on the wall with descriptions and some pictures as well.
They sadly ran out of all the delicious fruit jelly cups. And they didn't offer water cups, if you wanted water you have to buy a bottle. I feel like water station should be included and at that point they are just milking the money.
Here at Qin West Noodle, everything is served in single use containers. They have packaged wooden chopsticks, but no real spoons. Flimsy plastic spoons and cardboard like bowls. The trash chute in the back of the establishment is an interesting concept.
We ordered:
- Mapo Tofu with rice: This is my first time having mapo tofu. It was a bright red, thin, but oily sauce. For some reason this one didn't come with any minced meat. & I know that mapo tofu has Sichuan peppercorns because it comes from the Sichuan Province. What some people don't know is that these peppercorns aren't particularly spicy but they have a mouth numbing sensation. It first tastes bitter to some, then you have the numbing effect, and it's followed by a citrus hit. For me, I didn't have any numbing but the citrus flavor was really strong and not pleasant to eat. My family didn't quite enjoy this, they aren't particularly used to the mouth numbing effect. Even will all of this knowledge we felt like the mapo tofu was lacking developed flavors. We wouldn't get this again.
- Wonton Soup with Ramen, zero spice: very refreshing. The broth wasn't anything to write home about, but if you add a little bit of black vinegar it takes it to another level. The wonton wrapper was thin and the interior was juicy and delicious. This was very enjoyable. It came with big pieces of Chinese broccoli which we wished was pre cut in smaller pieces.
- Beef Noodle Soup with wide noodles: this is the one I personally ordered and I was very excited for. The meat was chewy but melt in your mouth. The broth was delicious and when adding a bit of chili oil to it, it's divine. The cilantro and Chinese broccoli had bright flavor to it which uplifted the soup. The noodles reminded me of hand pulled noodles because of the wavy texture on the sides of them. They were bouncy and yummy. I think next time I'd ask for spice level 1 or 2. We did no spice, and I think that takes away from authenticity of the dish.
The food did take a long while to come out and we were starting to wonder if they forgot about our order. About 30 min later we got our order. The interior space is clean and organized. Each table has a container of sanitizing wipes, napkins, chopsticks, and condiments. They had ample seating inside and out. It was pretty quiet in here though reminding me of a library.
If you're in UTC, I'd give this place a try. They have much more options to eat than what we ordered and tried out. You can buy drinks from elsewhere (like Wushiland or wherever) and bring it in to drink while you enjoy your food!
