The Crack Shack Is Expanding, Plus More New Openings in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Coming to the food court at Fashion Valley Mall, Qin West Noodle will be the second San Diego location for the LA-based group founded by Liyizhi Kou in 2012; after opening a Westfield UTC outpost in 2022, they’re aiming for a mid-July launch in Fashion Valley. The popular fast-casual restaurant focuses on regional Chinese food, representing provinces like Shanxi and Guangxi through a menu of noodle soups and other classic dishes." - Candice Woo

Love the noodles & mango drink! Thank you for the exceptional service. The price is reasonable for the portion. There is a charge for using credit card. No pressure for gratuity (which I truly appreciate the stress free process). The team genuinely wants you to enjoy their high quantity bowl of noodle. Highly recommend the beef noodle!

Google
Not great but not bad. I got beef broccoli, which was decent and dim sum. The dim sum is slightly blow mid. The soup dumplings definitely aren't hand made. This place has potential, they just need to put some love in it. Oh and the oolong milk tea was a little too sweet.

Google
For a restaurant situated in a mall, this hidden gem ROCKS with great chinese food. After ordering a Beef Noodle Soup, I was greeted with this massive bowl of braised beef and long wide noodles that just simmered with flavor. Though they take their time making it, you cannot beat the value this place gives considering the quality of their authentic asian cuisine! Reading through the reviews, I would not recommend their dry noodle dishes but do try the Noodle soups!

Google
This is a genuine noodle and other Asian snack type foods food court outlet at the Fashion Valley mall upstairs. Outstanding quality, tastes like in Asia. The gentleman serving us was patient and accommodating. This is a very welcome offering from the otherwise boring food court outlets around the county. Urge visitors to indulge in the wide offerings of delicious food. There is also another one at UTC. Thanks Qin West Noodles! -A non Asian, lover of real Asian food!

Google
When we visit Fashion Valley, I always stop by the food court, wondering what to eat. This time, I saw a new Chinese place and decided to try it! I got the dry mix noodles, crispy (salty) chicken, fried dumplings, and a red bean drink. The food turned out to be really salty, and the noodles had quite a kick, I couldn’t even finish them. The red bean drink is my mom’s favorite because it’s not too sweet, unlike milk tea, hehehe. The servers were great, but I’m not sure I’d try this place again.

Google
Shady Business Practices! I ordered the "Chicken Cold Noodle" (regular $14.45, small $11.95) at Qin West Noodle, and it was a huge disappointment. The noodles were tasteless, and the toppings were ridiculously sparse--basically just a bowl of cold cooked noodles. To make matters worse, it's called a "chicken" cold noodle with no chicken! When I asked about it, I was told chicken wasn't included and would cost an extra $3. The staff claimed it was similar to their "Szechuan Cold Noodle" ($10.95 + $3 for chicken), but the names and prices were completely different. Check my pictures for proof! On top of that, the $5 discount I got was just from my reward points, not a real deal. This was the worst version of this dish I've ever had. Don't waste your money here--disappointed and I won't be coming back.

Google
I’m from Taiwan, craving for some home taste food today when I visited Fashion Mall , very surprised to discover Qin West Noodles; food is so authentic and very tasty. Highly recommend to whoever wants to try the Real taste of Asian food: some dishes from Thailand as well as from Vietnam. 👍👍 Easily accessible via parking to the Food Court!

Google
We were waiting for our food for 20 min. All 3 women behind the cashier look lost, sleepy, with long messy hair out. Noodles were not cooked through. Complete lack of flavor, bland taste. Bowls look nothing like their beautiful pictures.

Yelp
Stopped by Qin West while I was down the street at a convention center. It caught my eye, so I figured I'd give it a try. Honestly, it was just okay nothing really stood out as amazing. I went with the Mongolian beef, but in hindsight, I think I should've tried their noodles instead. The portion was huge though, so definitely filling! Overall, it's worth checking out for yourself to see if it's your style. Not great, but not bad either just a solid, middle-of-the-road option.

Yelp
QIN WEST NOODLE @ FASHION VALLEY Parking is available for free at any fashion Valley parking lot. I definitely recommend parking by the Zara H&M. I was really excited to try this new place that was in fashion Valley because my friend and I were craving for some Asian food. We stepped in and the guy there did not acknowledge us. He just looked at us and then never acknowledged or said anything. after about five minutes, he finally helped us out and asked what we would like. We decide to get their Mongolian beef with their side of rice, cucumber, and milk tea, as it was on their personal website. he immediately asked where it was because this combination was not actually on the menu there which was interesting because this was on their official website. he ended up just charging us exactly what was on the website which was about $24 for all the items. About 10 minutes away we finally got our food. The milk tea had like powder still on top of it. It smelled extremely sweet and it was like some kind of water and powder mixture. as for the Mongolian beef, it did have a good taste so I feel like it definitely lacked some better flavouring like garlic, there was a pile of oil on the bottom. There is a picture that I did attached. That was very disgusting. Once we got down to at least a halfway mark. Every single bite was just oil and meat, and I was a little bit bummed out about the flavor. The cucumber itself was on the soggy side drenched in a very spicy sauce. Overall, I wouldn't come back to this place because I feel like the quality wasn't really great and the customer service was not there. It just felt like most of the time the worker would always look at you and then ignore and this happened a couple of times during my time there the quality the food was not to my expectations.

Yelp
I had such a disappointing experience at Qin West Noodle. The guy behind the counter was touching money, then wiped his nose, and went straight back to cooking without washing his hands. It was absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. On top of that, he was rude and made it clear he didn't even want the business. I asked about adding boba to one of the drinks (something they've done before), and he just cut me off with a flat "no" without hearing me out. The food itself is mediocre at best. Highly overpriced and far from authentic. Honestly, you can get way better food and service on Convoy Street for less money. This place is a poor excuse for Chinese cuisine and definitely not worth it.

Yelp
Qin West at Fashion Valley Mall's food court. They seem to be a simplified version of UTC's initial location. The menu has some Asian and side dish variety although it's less organized. I was attracted to the simple quick bacon chicken bowl to simply fill my stomach after shopping. It came out in 15min or so and tasted as expected. They don't give water cups here, and thats minus a star for me at least. However I was at least was pleased the fried rice included your standard mix-ins of peas etc. No issues with service. There's a dessert/boba shelf on the side and self-serve utensils.

Yelp
They have a big menu, good parking, a big variety of options at a reasonable price. They package everything really well and the interior dining area is also very clean and inviting with the light colors. Employees are super friendly. They have good food and I would come back

Yelp
Best fried rice I've ever had!!! Literally drive from Oceanside area down here for this rice lol! It's like St. Louis style rice if you have ever had that! It's more like brownish very seasoned white rice! It you haven't tried it it's a must try and idk why they have so mag bad reviews. Omgahhhh I love it! They got my order correct and give you a nice portion of rice!

Yelp
How is this place rated so poorly?! Conveniently located in the open-air food court at Fashion Valley Mall, this particular branch of the small chain makes for a delicious stop while shopping. It does take a bit of time for your food to be ready, but it's worth the wait! Aside from feeling that the amount of protein could have been somewhat more generous in two of the dishes we ordered (especially the one for which we specifically paid extra to add meat), my family of 3 thoroughly enjoyed our recent meal. The signature Liang Pi (homemade noodle, bean sprout, cucumber, peanuts) with added Saozi (diced pork, potato, tofu, radish) was my fave dish in terms of both texture and flavor - just wish there had been more saozi to balance the plentiful noodles! We had the same minor complaint about the Guilin Soup (beef shank, pickled cheese cabbage, vegetable, lily flowers, beans curd skin, peanuts, sour bean rice noodle) - it definitely would've benefited from a couple more slices of beef. In contrast, the ratios of the Zhajiang Noodle (chopped tomato and pork, cucumber, high quality noodle) were perfect. Overall portion sizes were enormous - the 3 of us couldn't even finish the Cucumber Side Dish and ended up taking home leftovers of the noodle bowls as well (no complaints about that!). Pro tip: err on the conservative side when choosing spice levels - you can always add, but you can't subtract. :P

Yelp
So happy they opened a closer location to my house. The food was good, I got the Liang Pi cold noodles. It's good and refreshing. We also order the Cha shu bun, it was a on the pricey side and it was okay. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't already. Be patient as the orders take. Bit of time making but worth the wait.

Yelp
This is located upstairs at the food court in the fashion valley mall. Solid authentic Chinese Shanxi cuisine featuring lots of noodles and spiciness. Large portions which I am a big fan of! Not the most meat but tons of noodles. Many dishes feature the culinary experience of lip and tongue numbing Sichuan peppercorns. This place is great if you want dishes packed with flavor and are a fan of spiciness. Not for the timid or those who prefer more Americanized Chinese cuisine. They now even offer spicy fried chicken sandwiches but I didn't try them. They also take inKind for discounts.

Yelp
I don't think Qin West Noodle quite deserves its current 2.6 star rating...I'd say it's more like a 3.5/5. The pros is that the portion size is HUGE. The regular size is just over $15 but it's more than enough to make 2 meals out of it. I also do really like the toppings. The negative is that it's quite salty. Also, I don't think the drinks are very good here, so I would skip on that. If you're at this mall, I highly recommend the Mongolian bbq spot in the same food court!

Libby J.

Yelp
Ordered the pork xiao long bao. Came all stuck together and extremely mushy. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Jennabel J.

Yelp
You can tell a place will be good if their side dishes are good and the cucumbers did not disappoint! I forgot to make it spicy but they were still really delicious and flavorful. Ordered the Mongolian beef and the Taiwanese braised pork rice - Both were good but the braised pork was my favorite of the two.

Yelp
Love coming here for the Guilin Noodles and popcorn chicken. I first tried this place at the UTC mall location, but when I found out they brought it to Fashion Valley (the mall I frequent more often than UTC), I just had to go. I always get the same things and I never seem to get tired of it. To me, they give BIG portions for your moneys worth, tastes delicious (at least to me and my preferences), good service, and in a location most convenient to me. Definitely recommend if you're in the mood for hot noodle soups (they also have other items on their menu like rice, dry noodles, and even banh mi--although I haven't tried them so I can't say much about the taste)

Nemekh T.

Yelp
Great food and service is fast. Also, have been going every other week for dinner and place have been greant. Also, friendly staff!

Papaya C.

Yelp
The meat in their soups/pho is just shredded pieces of fat (see picture below). The broth is too salty and the Xiao Long Bao is pre-made and tastes like microwave ambience. Also ridiculously expensive for low quality food. Come to this business if you like to waste your money and eat an unsatisfying meal.
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to like this dish because I've had it at many other places, and it's always so delicious. But here, the rice was old and of the lowest quality possible. One surefire way to ruin an Asian meal is with terrible rice. Rice can make or break a dish! There's a strange aftertaste I can't quite describe--it's unpleasant and lingers after the meal. To make matters worse, a lady came out of the kitchen holding the rice with her fingers, which completely ruined my appetite.

Yelp
Surprisingly good mall food. I love that there are options like this now. I had the golden beef soup, and it was very good. Also had a ton of beef in it. I'll be back to try some of the other options.

Yelp
I was over at Fashion Vally to pick up my husband's ray ban sunglasses and saw Qin West Noodle across the way. So I went I. There an ordered the Hot Dry Mix combo special that comes with hot oil cucumber mix and thai tea. Customer service was very good and the food was delicious. I've been to the one in UTC as well. Yes, I will definitely return if I'm in the area.

Yelp
I freaking hate u qin wests noodle. There was one man working behind the counter doing everything and he had a crusty shirt and he was sticking out his tongue. Then when i tried the food it had zero flavor. Refund me now
google avatar

Mishy V.

Yelp
So disgusting. Soup base is what you get out of ramen packages. They don't even make their own broth. Everything is frozen and it taste worst a top ramen package. Also took over 15 mins to prepare cause employees were just chatting and playing on phone. It's one of the worst food court experiences I have had with food.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
We have been fans of Qin West for some time now but our meal from this new location was subpar. The noodles were overcooked and the taste was not quite right. They had just opened when we came so hopefully they work out the kinks.
google avatar

Cindy Q.

Yelp
The food is very cheap quality. Fish tastes raw. $24 for mao cai which I could get it for half price in Convoy. 95% is clear noodles and maybe cost is $1. Not the same as the picture they show on their windows. Be ware! Just eat the panda Express is way better than this! I will never have this Qin West Noodle again! Not even in UTC. This shop is horrible.
google avatar

Jade W.

Yelp
The food is good. I've gotten the popcorn chicken and spicy wonton. My complaint is customer service. Always awful when I visit. Like today, I walked in to get the refrigerated tea drinks. The guy at the counter didn't even greet me. Well he was on his phone. But I'm just getting the tea so don't need his enthusiasm. However, three other customers walked in looking at the menu and he continued looking at his phone. Hello! Have you noticed, your establishment is not as busy as the others around, so if customers walk in, get the F off your phone and greet them. This is unbelievable and it always happens. They're rude. So yeah good is good, but don't expect a warm ambiance. Just get your food and get out. Probably better to order online so you don't have to deal with them.
google avatar

Ana B.

Yelp
The guy in the front was wearing gloves as he prepared the orders from customers like me. Then he helped another customer who paid CASH. After touching the cash and giving cash change to the customer, he did NOT change his gloves and continued to prepare the food with the same contaminated gloves. He knows better than that but he probably thought no one was looking. That's the reason for the 1 star. Poor sanitary practices. I felt like canceling my order but I didn't. I should have followed my gut. Instead, I threw my food away.
google avatar

Hilary E.

Yelp
Noodles are amazing. Ordered the Liang Pi extra spicy. The noodles are room temp, but it is really good that way! I was slightly thrown off that the lady working self added tip and I didn't even get the chance. What if I wanted to add more? This is in the food court so it's not a fancy spot, but it was fine eating at all the tables outside.

Samantha E.

Yelp
Food was cold and the worker couldn't tell us what meat we got with our noodles so it was a random surprise meat. Not much flavor and underwhelming. Overall extremely disappointing
google avatar

Jen G.

Yelp
The liang pi cold noodles are generally on point and the Guilin noodles. Great value for what you pay for without needing to drive super far

Yelp
Came to the mall for Lunch decided to try this new place and unfortunately it wasn't what I expected food is not good, doesn't have any taste, I should have just gone to the Japanese noddles place next door. Will not be coming back. Didn't even finish my meal.

Yelp
At a glance: Would recommend: No Would go again: No Food quality: 4/5 Taste: 0/5 Options available: 3/5 Price: 5/5 Decor/Vibes: 2.5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Customer Service: 5/5 Friendliness of staff: 5/5 Pros: Decent price, location, and portion size. Cons: Really, really bland Overall: 3.68/5 Partner Score: N/A I went on a Saturday night to this location and it was pretty slow. I ordered the first thing on the menu, which the person helping me told me was most popular, the beef noodle soup. Not sure why but I was expecting something a little similar to ramen, but it was quite different. The noodles were an interesting shape and size, but I wasn't mad about it at all. And there was a lot of beef in the soup, which was great to see as well. The reason I wouldn't go back or recommend this place is because it was very very bland. This meal is something I would want to eat if I was feeling sick and was having trouble keeping food down. It was a very light, clear type of soup with lots of beef and noodles, it was just flavorless. I went back and asked for chili oil which was nice but still after putting the entire container in there, it didn't make much of a difference at all. That being said, it was a large portion - there was a lot of soup, lots of beef, and a good amount of noodles as well. I just was a little upset eating it because I wasn't satisfied taste wise. I'm sure it's a good place for some, but for me I don't see myself going back again. Good price, location, and portion. Unfortunately, would not recommend. Would not go again.

Yelp
Not sure why the bad reviews. We got the liangpi and braised beef. Super flavorful and authentic. There wasn't a wait at 6pm. Portions were hearty.
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
It is pretty bland. The amount of servings are enough to make you full. One of the orders came with a small cup of thai tea. Not something i would eat again. One other reviews said it may be good for when you are sick is probably true.
google avatar

Ernesto A.

Yelp
Food is not that good. Service is worse. Beverage fridge not working for bottom shelf drinks. Establishment was busy, but staff struggled to process orders.

Amelia A.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place. The food made me sick and it tasted really old. Still sitting on the toilet as I type this out.

Lei S.

Yelp
I have been to Qin in LA and wanted to try this place. The worst service is when you speak Mandarin to them. Never return again!
