Kemi Dessert Bar - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Starting January 14th, Kemi Dessert Bar will return from its brief hiatus with Thai tea custard buns, made-to-order cakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and more. The bakers behind Kemi have worked at places like Dominique Ansel Kitchen and Ai Fiori before spending all of their time making incredible pastries based on some of their favorite sweets from around the world. Kemi Dessert Bar will offer hand delivery in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, plus nationwide shipping on select items. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Desserts 3/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Value 3.5/5 Authenticity 4.5/5 QM Dessert Lab is a cute Chinese tea house located in the basement, it can be easy to miss! The vibe is very authentic to "lifestyle" cafes I've visited in Chongqing, which I loved, though some areas (like the restroom) felt a little run down. A major highlight is the free Hanfu try on! The Drinks: I definitely recommend the traditional teas over the milk teas. The Osmanthus Oolong teapot was my fave, it was fragrant and good quality. In contrast, the Jasmine Milk Tea lacked a bold floral punch. The desserts are rly cute and very instagrammable but the flavors are fairly average Jasmine Mousse Flower: beautiful to look at but also tasteless Bunny Pudding: Very nostalgic! It tasted just like the White Rabbit candy Mochi Set: Decent, but the cream cheese flavor was a bit too dominant in the filling Come here for the photos, the Hanfu experience, and the hot tea, but don't have high expectations for the food!

very small space and desserts and tea are kinda pricey. got the osmanthus rice pudding, and it was very milk forward with a sticky rice inside that tasted and felt like mucus also got the sweet potato ice cream, and that was disappointing as the ice cream was not even sweet potato flavored. It was just regular Kirkland ice cream that they put a sweet potato with and a premade jelly. The ice cream also melted really fast because it was sitting next to a warm, sweet potato. The teapot is also very overpriced as it is $11 and only like 2 cups of tea in a cute packaging versus you could just get the same volume of tea for six dollars. not worth it and not tasty. the only worthy aspect is the atmosphere and if you want to take some photos with the backgrounds would not recommend. prince tea house would be better

The most aesthetic Chinese teahouse I’ve ever been to. Tucked away on a quiet street in Flushing, they serve the prettiest traditional pastries and mochi. The menu is extensive, and every dessert looks stunning. I’ll definitely need multiple visits to try everything. The ancient Chinese decor and dining booth had such a vibe, and you can even borrow hanfu (漢服) for photos. The names of their pastries are also very poetic. TLDR: The traditional dessert soups are must-haves, and the mochi definitely outshines the pastries. *Osmanthus Sweet Fermented Rice Milk Mochi 桂花酒釀水麻薯 $6.99 *** My favorite out of everything! The floral osmanthus notes paired beautifully with the sweet fermented rice wine, and the milk mochi was perfectly soft and stretchy. It’s also the best-value dessert on the menu imo. *Pear Sweet Soup with Snow Fungus 冰糖銀耳桃膠雪燕烤梨 $12.99 ** This felt like a warm hug in the winter. Served hot in a traditional ceramic pot, it was nourishing with poached pear, snow fungus, peach gum, and goji berries. My mom gave her stamp of approval on this. *Mochi Combo 軟酪合集 $20.99 * I was a little sad they ran out of the persimmon mochi…it looked so cute…But the jasmine guava mochi and yuzu matcha mochi were both delicious and super soft. I swapped the third mochi for a matcha pastry (玉妃 抹茶奶黄), which was just okay. *Mousse Dessert Combo 珍寶格 慕斯合集 $36.99 These desserts were beautifully crafted, almost too pretty to eat. The peony mousse was my favorite, especially with the crunchy rice krispy base. The set also comes with your choice of tea (green, black, or milk tea), kept warm with a small candle.

Came to Flushing after shopping around in Times Square because we liked the traditional vibes of this place and saw that there was a little booth that we could sit, eat, and take photos in. When we arrived it really took a trained eye to locate where it was because the sign was very small and almost seemed hidden. I would definitely recommend getting the mochis because it’s huge and very tasty. We got the Mousse combo and the mochi combo and it was quite filling for us three. We also got the option to try on traditional clothing for free and we took cute photos during our time there. The staff was very nice and patient with us as well :)

The desserts and teas here are both visually beautiful and genuinely delicious, with a lot of creativity in both presentation and flavor. In particular, the way the tea and pastries balance sweetness and subtle bitterness is really well done—they complement each other perfectly rather than feeling heavy or one-note. It’s a great spot for anyone who enjoys tea, desserts, and a relaxed place to chat.

This place is a true hidden gem in Flushing! I’m surprised more people don’t know about it—maybe because it’s tucked away around a corner and underground. The tea is fantastic—not too sweet, with unique flavors that stand out. The food is just as good; the sweet potato dish is absolutely awesome. The decor is on point, creating a peaceful vibe that’s perfect for chilling with close friends. The prices are super reasonable, even cheap compared to other dessert spots in the area. Honestly, I want to gatekeep this place, but it’d be selfish not to share. I love this vibe so much—reminds me of Say Hi in Murray Hill, which I’m obsessed with, but it’s a bit far. Now that I’ve found QM, it’s my new go-to spot for late-night tea with friends. Oh, and you can try on traditional Chinese costumes for free! 😊

If desserts can have a “temple,” then QM Dessert Lab (Qingmu) is one of the rare places in Flushing that deserves this name. I would not recommend "grab and go" if you visit there. Between the calm, tea house atmosphere and the way the desserts are presented, it feels like a true little sanctuary for modern Chinese dessert culture. I love desserts, and honestly, most “pretty” pastries are predictable before the first bite. QM surprised me. Their desserts do not win by being flashy. They win through layers. The fruit is fresh. The dairy is rich but never heavy. Everything is about balance, so each bite has a clear beginning, middle, and finish. If you have been to Lysée, you will understand why I am saying this. Flushing has a place that will not disappoint you. It carries the same respect for refinement, but with a more Eastern sensibility. For instance, flavors you rarely find in Western desserts include jasmine, yuzu, and persimmon. My strongest recommendation is their Mochi, especially the following two. (I forgot the third one I tried, but I will talk about these in my review) Yuzu Cream Cheese and Matcha Nama Chocolate Mochi. The mochi skin has that perfect bounce. First comes the calm bitterness of matcha. Then the deep, silky richness of nama chocolate. Finally, a bright lift of yuzu cuts through the creaminess like a clean beam of light. Jasmine Cream Cheese and Guava Mochi. The jasmine flavor arrives fragrant but not perfumey. The guava is gentle, and when it meets the slight saltiness of the cream cheese, the flavor becomes layered and surprisingly addictive. It is subtle at first, then it keeps unfolding as you chew. In short, at QM, the “wow” is not just for your eyes. The flavors actually match the beauty.

The desserts were amazing. I unfortunately didn’t get to try out their Persimmon Mochi (the one I looked forward to the most) since it’s sold out. But I want to highlight that the staff is super kind and trustworthy! They went above and beyond by storing my bag that I left behind safely upon finding it, and waited for me to pick it up. The Jasmine Guava Mochi was sooooo good!
