QU Japan Bistro Bar - Review - Rittenhouse - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Do you know those really old game shows where people went to a supermarket, fill their entire carts for free, and lost their minds in the aisles? Yeah, that's how it almost feels during Happy Hour at Center City’s QU Japan Bistro Bar when you load up with $6 rolls, gyoza, and fried rice. And by “everything,” they really mean it—even the sake, cocktails, and Japanese beer get the $6 treatment." - Candis R. McLean

Google
Nice quiet place to eat, really good food & drinks. Nice size bar, very clean bathroom. I went on a Saturday evening with a party of 4 & it was no wait.

Google
I've been comming here fir thr last few years and it's a solid low/mid range sushi place. It looks nice and is always clean. Service is always great and the food here is excellent at the price point. I highly recommend thier Special fired rice which is chicken and shrimp n special sauce. Great Lil lunch or causal date spot.

Camisha D

Google
Weekend happy hour yes please! Great sushi spot in Center City. The happy hour menu has most of your classic sushi roll and appetizer choices. The veggie gyoza was delicious. We also ordered the meet me in the summer roll which was refreshingly good. The mango added a nice sweetness that I wasn't sure if I would like, but it was good.

Google
We went for happy hour on Saturday 1pm-3pm $6.50 for all the food on the happy hour menu and $8 cocktails. The lotus blossom drink was so good it’s a lychee martini. But will sell out fast . The sushi was big and fresh! The wings was so good and crispy. Cute vibe . Solo date friendly. Small place . Good customer service. Good for date or girls day out

Google
Came for happy hour and absolutely loved it. Happy there's happy hour even on Saturdays! There's a full food menu with apps, sushi, entrees and even dessert. Along with alcoholic stuff. Got a yellowtail scallion and salmon avocado and they were packed with fish for $6!! They did not skimp. The table next to us got fried rice and chicken wings and they were big portions too. Flavors were great for all the fish. Cute and cozy interior.

Google
Happy hour was good. Recommend the salmon dream, spicy edamame, spicy tuna roll, pork gyoza. Lotus blossom cocktail was fruity. The vibe was great. The price was reasonable. Service was good.

Google
I went there for a happy hour on Saturday but the food was not fresh enough. I have tried the eel avocado and California rolls, which were average at best. However, the seaweed salad was a highlight—it was delicious and served in a generous portion. I even took half of it home, and when I ate it the next day, it tasted just as good. The service was a strong point; the waitstaff were friendly and efficient. I also liked the overall vibe of the place, which was beautiful, relaxed and enjoyable.

Google
The hostess in the front desk was so educated and cooperative. I regret I did not get her name. I was full of luggage and other traveling equipment, and she could not have been more cooperative. Jeanine then was the most gracious server whose recommendations were on point. I was not planning on getting "Salmon Dream" but it was one of the most delicious and intriguing Japanese dishes I've ever tried. This dinner was quite memorable and very well priced during Happy Hour. There were no gimmicks. Rather, quality galore.

Nelson D.

Yelp
Excellent food but even better service!! They take their time with presentation and tasted wonderful!

Yelp
Enjoyed a tasty lunch at Qu Japan: service was quick and it was nice to sit in the slightly elevated dining room (the bar is on ground level). My dining companion and I each ordered a lunch special with three rolls, which came with miso soup, and we added on an order of jalapeño chicken wings--nice crisp and kick from the jalapeños. Definitely recommend for a business lunch!

Yelp
Decent spot here for happy hour sushi. We arrived only a few mins before happy hour ended, and the staff graciously gave us the happy hour menu/prices. We ate very well, ordering 10 different menu items in total among 3 people and 3 cocktails for less than $100. I'd call that a win! The sushi is pretty good. I didn't personally care for the crunchy tuna rolls but this was more personal preference. All the other rolls I ordered were fantastic. Everything was very fresh and the rice was seasoned well. The maki rolls are slightly on the small side, but they were also $6.50 or so, so no complaints. The cocktails were eh. My girlfriend and I each tried a mojito and they seemed very low on alcohol and also no sugar. It was more like soda water and mint, to be honest. Price was reasonable but not that great. Should have tried the sangria... It would had been nice if the happy hour menu had some description to what the rolls are/have in them; we were surprised on a few. Overall a good spot for budget friendly sushi but maybe skip the cocktail or go with beer/wine.

Yelp
Technician was great, but their prices are ridiculous. Cheaper to buy new appliances.

Yelp
Super cute interior design. Went for happy hour everything was $6.5. Cocktails were $8.

Yelp
Overall everything was pretty good and fresh ! My favorites were the lemongrass chicken soup and the crispy spicy. Side note: I've been here twice and had a better experience on a weekend (food tasted fresher) Sizzling roll (3/5): This wasn't my favorite, but that's because i don't like to combine sweet with sushi but if that's ur thing then you'll love this roll Salmon avocado (5/5): Classic, fresh Crispy spicy (5/5!!!): The crunch texture from the salty fried seaweed was deliciously paired with the creamy tuna on top Shrimp tempura (5/5): Classic! Spicy tuna (5/5!): Tuna tasted fresh and I really enjoyed it. I would get this instead of the crispy spicy if it's not happy hour! Lychee bellini (5/5): soooo delicious, love this twist on the classic lychee martinis that are served at sushi places I enjoy coming here during happy hour, i think it's a great bang for your buck! Will return!

Yelp
I'm ngl I'm a space girlie and the fact they said they didn't give sauce with these wings made me mad at first but when I tried them I realized they didn't even need sauce they were already juicy and flavorful
google avatar

Yelp
Such a good deal to go for happy hour! It's $6.50 per food item on the happy hour menu and everything was delicious. The staff were super attentive and friendly. Service was incredibly quick. Location was very well decorated.

Yelp
Don't sleep on Qu sushi - there are tons of sushi jawns all over Philly who can make a decent tempura shrimp spicy tuna speciality maki, but few actually have legit seafood including ikura, toro, and uni. I've eaten sushi all over the US and Canada and I'd easily put them in top 5 for the price point. After almost 2 years in Philly I was coming to believe real sushi wasn't a thing here but alas I found Qu. There's something lovely about discrete sushi restaurants in business districts that I love. Service is punctual and excellent - the first time I visited and they didn't have uni in house at that time (came in at last call, understandable), she advised I called ahead since it's not super popular. The toro I ordered far exceeded expeditions - lightly torched with a touch of what looks like ossetra caviar. It was omakase level sushi without omakase prices. For lunch, you can get a beautiful sashimi set with a bowl of rice and miso soup for 17 dollars which is a steal in this economy (a steak bowl at chipotle is like 12 bucks now lol). Definitely will be returning!

Adam V.

Yelp
Can't complain food was great and price wasn't out of control. Thank you! Had the soup, sashimi and sushi.

Yelp
Pretty solid spot for Happy Hour in Center City! Everything is six dollars 5-7pm, including HH-sized starters, maki rolls, drinks, and even desserts. My go-to maki rolls are Salmon Avocado, Tuna, White Tuna Avocado, and the Yellowtail Scallion. I also love to get the White Tuna Jalapeno starter and a glass of cold sake. For dessert, the fried cheesecake with ice cream is worth trying, though just a warning that it is quite heavy! I've also had the chance to come in for regular dinner service a couple times and their specialty rolls are fresh. They are usually consistent -- I was only served much smaller rolls for HH once, and there is one server there who is less friendly than the rest, but usually everything goes pretty smoothly.

Yelp
Stopped by Qu with a big group of friends while visiting Philly and they were able to accommodate our reservation for 9 people at 8pm on a Friday! The sushi rice here isn't seasoned which I was a bit disappointed about -- had to dip the nigiri in soy sauce to punch up the flavor of some of the pieces -- but the fish was super fresh and the fish to rice ratio in the rolls was excellent. Definitely a solid option for Japanese food in the Center City area.

Ayana B.

Yelp
Their service here is really good but they also weren't that busy. The sushi here is just okay. I went during happy hour and tried a few dishes. Nothing was bad but it also wasn't good enough to come back.

Yelp
Qu has the BEST sushi happy hour in center city. Everything on the menu is $6.5 and so worth it! The sushi rolls are always huge and stuffed with fresh fish & veggies. The rice layer is always thin. Super delicious! The veggie gyoza and jalapeño wings are also go-to apps. The gyoza is stuffed with veggies and has a nice crispy edge. The wings are also crispy and perfectly sauced. It's a modernly decorated restaurant. The service is always quick & they always make sure to check in one last time for orders before happy hour ends which I appreciate. Highly recommend coming here for sushi!!

Yelp
Ordered take out. All the rolls were really good. The sushi & sashimi combo was fresh and came with a side roll - the spicy tuna roll. This roll was THICC!!! Very yummy. The other stand out was the Meet me in Summer22 Roll. It was delicious and flavorful. The Real Deal Roll was also pretty good, I'd say 8/10. Toro tartar was different. It doesn't come with a lot of chips, so just be mindful of that. Overall, enjoyable experience and I'd recommend sushi from here!
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
Hotter than Summer $17 roll was overpowered by the cucumber. Would skip this next time The Real Deal $25 was a crowd favorite. We've ordered this twice now and enjoyed it both times Toro Scallion was good. A simple clean roll. Would get again Money Bag - just taste like a dumpling. Nothing special. Would skip
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Great hidden gem! I got takeout sushi from here and it was delicious. The rolls were unique and flavorful. My favorite roll was 'Meet me in Summer 22', it had this passionfruit sauce on it that was to die for. The sashimi was fresh and the wasabi was abundant. Would def recommend!

Yelp
My flight was cancelled on a Sunday night and I was rescheduled for another flight Monday night. I had a chance to wander around the city and found this place. It was 5 stars all around! My server was sweet and very attentive. She had a wonderful recommendations and honest insight to the food and how it is prepared. Spicy edamame was delicious and had this crunchy texture. The tuna flight came with a cup of miso soup, just the right size. And the tuna flight itself was beautifully prepared and tasted fresh. Dining room is peaceful tables are well spaced. The decor is cute with all sorts of flowers on the walls. It was so peaceful. A little pricier than I would normally spend but I decided to treat myself after a really long weekend and night. It was worth every penny and if I were local, I'd go back at least 2-3 times a month.

Yelp
My friend and I saw this place last night. So happy we came. Great service, fabulous food. I eat sushi and lots at home in CA. I totally recommend Qu! You will not regret it!
google avatar

Marissa A.

Yelp
QU is up there in my top 3 for sushi rolls in the city. Their rolls are the largest by far that I've ever gotten -- still 6 pieces which is pretty standard, but the pieces are fat! Fish is also some of the freshest I've tasted in Philly (their yellowtail is the best I've had in the city). Not usually one for a vegetarian roll, but their mix vegi continues to make the rotation. Have not dined in, but I very highly recommend this spot for takeout.

Yelp
Maybe we had a couple of new folks: the service was kind and we got what we needed but it was a little chaotic. But no real complaints. Food was really good. The yellowtail was soooooo good. Also suggest the shumai--perfectly sweet and slippery (lol only word i can think to describe) in all the right ways. A great neighborhood place for a fun night of happy hour (really good happy hour). Maybe not the best date night place but I'd suggest it for a sushi craving for sure.

Yelp
Great Sushi Happy Hour! Taste: 3.5/5, Value: 4/5, Service: 5/5, Ambience: 4/5 We were craving sushi so we went for their happy hour where everything is $6. They have a wide variety of options. We got the spicy crunchy salmon, spicy crunchy tuna, and tempura shrimp rolls. The spicy salmon/tuna roll had a good amount of fish with a good amount of spice and had 6 pieces per roll. The tempura shrimp roll had 5 pieces, but the pieces were slightly bigger. The seaweed was a little soft/chewy. Not the greatest quality sushi, but cheap for happy hour!
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
Happy Hour is alive and well at Qu Japan Bistro & Bar! I loved the $6 happy hour specials they had during the week. Unlike most restaurants, Qu had a pretty generous happy hour menu and lots of options to choose from. Service was very friendly and quick! Food came out pretty fast. The restaurant is dim, and soothing. Perfect for after work get togethers or dinner dates with friends/family/significant other.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
I liked coming here for the happy hour. Happy hour is 5-7 which is a very reasonable hour. Everything on their happy hour menu was 6 dollars. They have cool deals like two dollar double shot and then 1 dollar for juice, beers on tap, and also tons of sushi options. I liked the variety. You will deff leave feeling happy. Sushi is pretty tasty they fill the inside of the roll with lots of filling. It's deff worth checking out! The service is perfect. It's fast and efficient and legit if you look up someone will make sure you're being helped. The staff is top notch. Vibes and ambiance is cool. It's very clean and the music is loud. Overall would return and worth a visit , especially for HH

Yelp
2stars for recent delivery service. Ordered in advance and the restaurant did not start working on the order until after the 20 minute additional window (requested 6:30, delivery was confirmed for 6:30-6:50, they didn't start working on it until after 6:50). This is my go to, favorite place to dine in in, so this is a sad disappointment
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
Went for a quick lunch with a friend and didn't disappoint. A little bit tucked away off of 17th Street, so you may walk right past it. Not too noisy for being right downtown. Busy but still attentive service. The food was great and came out quickly. Enjoyed the fried rice lunch special and the 2 roll special. Can't beat it.

Yelp
Yesterday was our first visit to Qu for happy hour, and we had a good experience between the food and the service. The service was friendly and attentive. We were also able to use a check-in coupon for a free spicy edamame which was nice! For happy hour, everything is $6 which is averages to a decent deal for everything. For example, I think $6 for a Sapporo isn't that great, but $6 for a 6 piece roll these days, is decent. Food wise - all of the rolls we got were good, and I also enjoyed the crispy veggie gyoza. For a party of 3 that ate generously with 1 round of drinks, our bill came to $90 pre-tip. The next time I have a hankering for sushi and happy hour, I'll be returning to Qu!

Yelp

Yelp
I was staying at a nearby hotel when I suddenly had a craving for sushi. Fortunately, I saw that Qu Japan Bistro & Bar was nearby and immediately headed over. Upon arriving, I was immediately seated at a table. Service was fast, with the waitress coming by within several minutes to take my order. I ended up ordering a few plates of sushi. All the sushi here is high quality! They pack a lot of fish into their sushi, and everything is well assembled and beautifully presented. Even something as simple as cucumber is presented as expertly sliced spaghetti. Moreover, prices are very reasonable, including on alcohol, especially during happy hours. Overall, the lightning fast service, excellent food, and decent prices makes this restaurant worth a visit. If I lived in Philadelphia, I would visit Qu Japan Bistro & Bar on a weekly basis!
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Been ordering from here for takeout for years, but recently went in person for new years. The sushi is consistently on point and very delicious. I really could tell no difference between how it is presented and tastes at the restaurant itself vs how it is when delivered to my home. Our only "complaint" from the NYE visit was that our alcoholic drinks were a bit too strong for both our likings. But that's chalked up to personal preference. The food is def the best sushi rolls I've ever had in my nine years in the city.
google avatar

Max F.

Yelp
I was really impressed by QU Japan. I loved the happy hour special pricing- six dollar any roll from 5-7 on weekdays. As you can see from my photo, they're awesome rolls! Very little rice and filler. Plenty of delicious fish. I was worried about the quality since the pricing was so good, but the fish was extremely high quality. Everything was delicious. The drink specials are great too. $6 for well drinks, sake, etc is a steal! It is quiet and intimate inside and our servers were quick and friendly. The quality of the sushi for the price is a huge draw. I'm definitely adding this place to the rotation--it should be anyone's go-to for sushi at a great value. Total hidden gem!
google avatar

Dee K.

Yelp
Great food and well priced! Very nice staff and nice lunch specials the downside is this horrible sleepy piano music I'm falling asleep! So if ur tired and need a nap come here
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
Qu has a great happy hour menu with many options. We enjoyed our sushi rolls and tempura. They had run out of their sangria by the time that we arrived so if you are interested in that, try arriving on the earlier side. The service was attentive and quick. The restaurant can get a bit loud so I'd recommend this spot for groups of friends - not necessarily an intimate dinner. There is an outdoor patio area that may be a better option!

Marlon W.

Yelp
Nice quick service, the sushi rolls are decent as well! I really like the environment.
google avatar

Tammy C.

Yelp
The sushi here is sushi-ing! Awesome happy hour deal at a quality sushi place in center city. I literally always find myself coming back here for affordable quality sushi and I am so happy I have found a reliable place for sushi in philly. In my opinion it's hard to find a place here that meets both my quality and price factors. Food: they have a wide selection of rolls, other appetizers, and entrees. Happy hour deals have a good variety of it all too. Quality: sushi rolls are not skimpy. They load them up!! Sushi tastes fresh and the sushi rice isn't soggy or hard. Price: I normally come for the happy hour deals - $6 for everything on the happy hour menu including the drinks. Service: quick and attentive !
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Wednesday and they had plenty of seating! I love that their HH doesn't end until 7p. Servers are nice & accommodating. If you want Sangria and High Noon- get here earlier! They only have a limited quantity, I think they said 15 available per day. Food was great... although U was expecting more stuffings inside the sushi. Nonetheless, for $6 its a lot of protein and less rice. Such a great steal! I recommend getting the shrimp & veggie tempura off the HH menu. Great portion and variety. It included fried shrimp, broccoli, sweet potato, taro, and another root vegetable. If you get the sake off the menu, they bring you a little shot glass and small vase of sake. Also- if you check into Yelp, you can redeem a free spicy edamame! Definitely recommend this place
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Their selection was awesome, it was hard to choose what to try.
google avatar

Spencer W.

Yelp
I heard whispers it might be the best happy hour in the city so I was excited to check it out. First off awkward start getting helped to be seated. However after being seated the service was amazing and proactive. Happy hour is a great deal and the best part is how broad their happy hour menu is --- it's not just sushi rolls. Everything is $6 from meat to seaweed salad, etc. Definitely recommend for HH and hope to come back to try more -- ideally one of everything d:)
google avatar

Eion P.

Yelp
Went for the happy hour on a Friday--no wait, got seated immediately, and left satisfied. Rolls were $6.50 and PACKED with fish and avacado! Service was quick, m atmosphere was vibey, and the restaurant was clean. Drinks were alright (ordered a margarita for $8 which wasn't the best but for the price can't complain). Would definitely recommend the sushi but skip the drinks.
google avatar

Sami G.

Yelp
they do not advertise correctly or legally. the website from TODAY showing happy hour is 1-5pm. there is one sign on the door saying it's now only until 3. the waitress was incredibly rude and said "we don't use our website" WHAT?? the menu and everything is updated !!! they just don't want to accurately advertise so they can deceive customers. food is Mid tier at best, not worth the shit service or quality
google avatar

Bhavika P.

Yelp
I love sushi and glad I found a new spot to try the sushi. I have always done a take out but the place looks good with indoor and outdoor seating. A very wide spread of sushi's and my all time fav is Meet Me in Summer22. It is a very refreshing roll and I can't get enough of it. I would like to go back and try the bento box choices.
google avatar

Tori F.

Yelp
Here to add that they increased the price for all food to $6.50 - making some rolls only 50 cents cheaper which seems a little silly to consider this a "happy hour"

Jisoo K.

Yelp
Came for the happy hour on a week day and it was not too crowded! The rolls were stuffed with fish and pretty fresh (good fish to rice ratio). We ordered about 7-8 items and the service was also really quick. Would definitely come back again!
google avatar

Shaquille J.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie, Philly was look very grim to me early on. I love sushi and the first sushi experience I had in Philly was absolutely horrible. I don't want to name any businesses but this place has sushi falking apart, slimy, unappealing etc. Long story short QU Japan sets a bar that I feel all sushi places in Philly should stick toward. The people here are so accommodating and so nice. Anything you need to better your experience they will do for you. If sitting outside is cold, they'll move you in and put you by a warm vent, if your water cup is low they WILL notice and keep It full, if you need more sauce they WILL know somehow lol and fix it. Aside from the great service, the food is truly their staple. Talk about quality. All the rolls we ordered were freaking delicious! The salmon on the salmon avocado is so rich and buttery. I don't know if I'm describing it correctly but I know that's how it felt when I was chowing down lol. They take their time making that stuff for you and it really shows. I reccomend you come here down happy hour so it isn't as pricey. During happy hour the rolls are around $6. Come here and see the greatness for yourself.
google avatar

Esy C.

Yelp
Food: 9/10 fresh sushi, the rice to fish ratio is great, they really load up all the fish!! Spicy edamame is soo buttery and good. Would stay away from ramen here as the sushi is much better. Atmosphere: 6/10 loud most dinner times, bathrooms are sometimes unclean Service: 6/10 sometimes rushed or a bit slow. Tips; happy hr M-F 5-7pm! Everything (apps, rolls, drinks) is $6 BUT NOT SPECIAL rolls just the regular ones. Been here more than five times and they never disappoint. Havent taken out yet but will try!
google avatar

Caren C.

Yelp
They have A happy hour that is amazing. They have sushi and drink specials and a full menu full of discounted. Happy hour food. They have music playing and it has a nice cozy vibe. Happy hour starts at 5 PM and I would definitely give this place a try. It can get busy fast so make sure you're there early!

Yelp
Still one of the best happy hour sushi spots in the city, time and time again. Have been here many many times over the past 1/2 year or more since my first with lots of different friends, and it's been great every time. So glad it's here providing us great sushi for a good price. Thanks
