The bar is not a "rooftop bar" it's on the second floor. Also, the bartender took forever to even try to get me a drink. The menu is expensive, which I would be fine with if the bar was actually high up from the street. You don't even have a good view when you are drinking. The view is off the sides of buildings that are much taller than this rooftop bar. Also it's really small. Overall, I recommend any other bar in the area.

Google
It was good food, not great but good. The cheese platter had a nice selection, the quiche was fresh but, the eggs with the eggs Benedict were pretty firm. We saw that a lot of people raved about the staff in other reviews but we had very very little interaction with staff. Since you order on the app, we only saw someone when our drinks and food were delivered. I do love the concept though. Not any place like it in the Fresno region.

Wow! The small, eclectic menu was fabulous and the menus for both the special drinks and regular drinks gave lots of creative choices. I had the stone fruit old fashioned - maybe the best old fashioned I've ever had. Everyone enjoyed both their drink and food selections immensely. Our waiter Paul, was as good as they come - personable, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. Don't be alarmed when they only send you to the 2nd floor of the building, for a "rooftop bar" experience. You'll see. We had a 6 PM reservation and sat out on the patio and enjoyed the temperature dropping and the cooler breezes. Fantastic all the way around!

My wife and I had to book in advance and now I know why. The food was exquisite and the drinks were on point as well. I got to order their egg quail burger. It was simple but great and the dessert was tasteful and light. With all this aid I will be coming back.

Went with my best friend. Had a nice time. Hipster vibes were awesome. Healthy food and drink choices. The assistant manager was our waiter outside on the rooftop and he was the best! The other staff were attentive and kind also:) Lovely place, good vibes, highly recommend. Bit on the pricey side, but totally worth it.

Google
A hip 2nd floor outdoor balcony restaurant & bar with fun cocktails, a cool vibe & delicious bites. Don’t miss out on the grilled cheese; yum! Nothing this cool was in Fresno when I lived here in the mid 90s. Now the downtown Fulton “mall,” (called a mall because the street used to be shut down to traffic,) is trying to find its hipster heartbeat with spots like this. We went on a perfect March Central Valley night and sat on the patio terrace. (They call it rooftop, but technically it’s not on the roof of this historic building. It’s on the 2nd floor.) The patio filled up for a Tuesday night. But our server was delightful & didn’t miss a beat with all the tables he was handling. We went knowing it was lite bites for food. But it was perfect for a happy hour dinner. Especially their delicious grilled cheese which came with a side salad. Perfect way to spend a spring night in the Central Valley.

I am so in love with Quail State already! I've been twice since they opened their patio and have had such a wonderful experience. The food (I got the half chicken one time, and the short ribs the next) was soooo succulent and well made. The flavors, the tenderness of the meat, the sides...all of it was 10/10. I tried both cocktails and the natural wines in my visits, and again, high quality and so tasty. I especially loved the pretty-ness of the cocktails. For me, what was most important, was the experience of the staff and owners. I love when restaurant staff is kind and engaged, and that is exactly what I experienced here. Most recently, our waiter was Paul and despite it clearly being a busy night, he was so accommodating and friendly. And then, for both visits, one of the owners came over to our table to check in on how things were (also, so friendly and down-to-earth). I know this won't be possible every time, but I found that to be so charming. And that is my overall experience with Quail State! Charming, delicious, and wonderful ambiance. I am desperate for the rooftop bar to open, but I promise that a visit any time will be well worth it!

Google
I've had the pleasure of eating here several times since they opened and got to experience their 7 course tasting menu recently as well. I am beyond Ecstatic that they made it through opening during Covid. Not only a beautiful and unique location (especially for Fresno, go downtown revitalization!) but they have spectacular food and drinks. During the tasting menu, each course and drink was better than the last, if that's even possible. The owners really care about what they're doing and the product they put out, and usually stop by the tables to chat. I can't recommend this place enough. Go support them and help us to keep the downtown gem.

Yelp
No food?! All good at least the cocktails were delicious! Located on the 2nd floor of the Pacific Southwest Building, Quail State is a sleek cocktail bar that has great aesthetics, both indoor and out. It was empty when we arrived, but it was a Monday around 6pm. We sat on their outdoor patio, which holds about 30 people? No more food served here, but you can bring food in with you. The cocktail menu here is long and there's literally something for type of booze lover. I went with a light bourbon cocktail, I forgot the name, but it was surprisingly refreshing for brown liquor based drink. A great place to start the night before heading out and exploring the Tower or DT Fresno.

Yelp
No food! This is just a cocktail bar! Cute ambiance and nice drink options. The parking is metered street parking.

Yelp
Let's start with the positive. Drinks were OK and presentation and taste. I've been here a few times and it seems like the owner doesn't know what's going on. One of the times I came by my friend and I had two drinks each. We paid our tab and didn't realize till the next day we were charged $60 each. I went back-and-forth for two weeks through their Instagram requesting a refund. I was very patient and calm about everything. They agreed to give me a refund and it never happened... A friend wanted to check it out so we went for the July art hop. It was smelly. They have no AC just a standing cooler that blows, funky smelly air. Kind of like cat piss. Not something I enjoy while I'm trying to sip on a $16 drink. The smelly air blower is loud and annoying when you're having a conversation. One time I came they charged me a covered to enter and the "event"(dj) ended in 30 min after I arrived and paid $10 cover. Theirs dirty glasses everywhere because there's only two bartenders and no servers or bar backs. The poor busy bartenders basically work in the dark and that concerns me for their safety.

Dan D.

Yelp
Ordered one drink and it took 3 bartenders 30 minutes to make it and it wasn't even busy . There was maybe 5 people in the whole bar. All my friends got their drinks except for me . They forgot to make mine . I had already paid or I would've just left . The bartenders seemed like they were on cocaine. They may have been the owners . Also my drink was a damn vodka cran, how hard is that to make . And why does it cost 15$ when they had a sign that said well drinks were 10$ . Never want to go back. Terrible customer service . Wished I hadn't tipped because it was wack asf.

Yelp
Read: they don't do food anymore! And food, even just nibbles would have been a great addition. But cocktails coming in hot! My homeboy & I wandered into this beautiful old building and went up to floor 2 and sat outside and ordered off of this very robust cocktail menu list. And the cocktails were so good. Some solid music coming from a little Bluetooth speaker, was funny but also really highlighted how much potential this spot has. Can you bring in food? I don't know. Can you reserve that patio for all your soirée needs? I'd hope so and what a great spot for a cocktail party. Even the inside, while narrow with a long bar was quite unique and historic. The bartender was great and again, those cocktails were beautiful and well made. Pictured is a tequila - lime - ginger - jalapeno drink. Overall, so much potential with great cocktails.

Yelp
Not sure what's going on with this place. It's dead and losing it's once memorable charm. I used to bring friends here for their first time due to its intimate environment on Fresno's only rooftop bar. We walked in and the bartender looks at us, we greet her before she does. The plants on the window sill looked yellow and immediate TLC and watering. So many red flags already... We sit outside on the rooftop waiting for service. Nothing. There's a group of 3 on the rooftop with us. 4-6 people inside? It's a Saturday night, 10pm. It's dead. We were confused why we weren't being served after sitting outside for a few minutes. We go back inside for service. I see a customer sit down at a table. We get to the bar, the customer gets up and goes behind the bar. The customer is actually a worker. She took our order and she explains service is only at the bar because of an incident where one of their workers was serving folks outside and the heat made her pass out. It would have been nice to know that when we were sitting outside with no service. We got our drinks soon after we ordered. Drinks are overpriced $14-16 for customer service and weak small drinks. They werent pretty either. The Paloma tall drink was served with a straw that was the same height as the cup. Lol. Why would they do that? Lol. When we were leaving, the bartenders were cheers-ing each other taking shots. We made eye contact again, and said good bye first. They really don't seem to care, period, lol. This place used to be one of a kind in Fresno. That's too bad. I don't plan to return or bring any friends here anymore. It's not worth the effort or time. Hope they improve to get their shine back...

Yelp
My friend and I decided to check this rooftop bar out. The ambience is very nice and welcoming! We got a Valentine's Day cocktail which was very strong. We didn't expect it to be as strong since it had strawberries and cream liqueur. Overall, cute place and drinks.
google avatar

Whatzit T.

Yelp
Although it wasn't on the rooftop, the ambiance is great. We asked the waiter for a recommendation on their sweetest drink and he happened to suggest one that was unbelievably strong. I understand the vision with gingerbread, but I only had two sips. I'm not putting any blame on the waiter, he stated it was his first day, but please never recommend this to anyone again. Overall would come again.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday wasn't crowed which isn't a bad thing sometimes. But the outdoor heaters and lights didn't work and that's really why I wanted to to go to check out the outdoor area. We sat inside by default and I ordered the matcha make me mad and my gf ordered a tequila drink. Both were just ok. The bartenders and service were fine.

Tim K.

Yelp
Drinks are way over priced. The atmosphere doesn't impress .The bartender was nice but kinda boring I was there only once so maybe I'll give them second try. But for sure they have rethink their prices. Because I had just one and didn't feel good about the price any other place my drink would of been around 10 to 12 dollars. There a shot was 23.50. Ridiculous.

Yelp
As it being the first time here... I was excited to experience this rooftop bar but I was quite disappointed. This place is located couple stories up in nice downtown Fresno building but unfortunately the elevator was not working and only stairs was available to access this place. (Which is fine but I can't imagine people after a few drinks and taking these flights of stairs) We decide to sit outdoors to enjoy the rooftop bar and it had a nice ambiance and they offer blankets for people sitting outside. (Hence for the 2 stars) Kitchen was under renovation or something and so no food was available. (Wish they had a sign or something when you come in) They charge you EXTRA if you want that darn cube ice for whiskey drinkers?! Wow. But ok, fine we take the extra charge but to have it deliver to another table?! We completely got the wrong drinks. It was just a little unorganized but yet there wasn't even many people there. Drinks wasn't great and the prices was just way way overpriced. Sad to say we checked out after that one drink and no acknowledgment as we left or apology for the drinks mix up other than taking off the extra charge for the "cube" ice we didn't get.

Yelp
Made a reservation on Open Table to visit Quail State prior to a downtown theater performance. We arrived on time and were told by the doorman that the meters were still being enforced so we fed the meter, showed him our requested ids and then rode the elevator up to the 2nd floor restaurant. Upon arrival, we noticed a sign that said the kitchen was closed. We asked the bartender about the possibility of getting food and she said that the kitchen was under renovation and there was no food available. Not wanting to have an alcoholic liquid dinner (we didn't want to sleep through the performance), we ended up leaving very disappointed and found a restaurant with an open working kitchen across the street. Another group with similar plans got turned away downstairs because not all of them had an ID available. Quail State, please update your customers! Need ID to get in? Limited menu? No food? If you want people to come downtown and pay premium prices, you need to offer a premium experience.

Yelp
Quail state is one of a kind, chic modern cocktail bar with a few food options. Seating is indoor and outdoor, and they do take reservations. I finally tried their summer menu cocktails. Our bartender Candace was great. She was very attentive and our drinks were so good. She let us know about their special drink which was the Barbie drink in honor of the Barbie movie. I had to order it and I'm glad I did. My boyfriend and I each ordered 3 drinks, and enjoyed all of them. The atmosphere is chill, loved the music choice they had on. I do have to say some of the drinks are a little pricey. One cool thing is, it's located inside the pacific southwest building and you're escorted to the elevator to go to the 2nd floor where quail state is located.

Yelp
This is such a cute place with good drinks but the service is terrible. I came two weekends in a row and had the same bartender. She was extremely rude both times and acted as if we interrupted her hanging out with her friends that she had sitting at the bar both nights. She was rude when I asked about the menu change and just ruined the vibe of the night. She made us feel so awkward waiting as she made our drinks with an attitude. I want to come back to this place since it's so beautiful outside but I will walk out that door if she's working again.

Yelp
We came to Quail State around 8:45 pm on a Thursday night. It's up an elevator on the second floor of the building. Theres a cute little "rooftop" patio seating area, but we opted to sit inside since it was cold outside. Our party of 3 was quickly seated and the decor and atmosphere was amazing. Everything on the menu was creative and unique, and we ordered one cocktail each. Kiwi Do You Love Me? ($13): this was my drink and I was pleasantly surprised by the light but tart kiwi and almost buttery pastry dough flavor. Humble Pie ($13): super refreshing and easy to drink. Baklava Old-Fashioned ($14): not a big whisky fan, but comes with a little bit of baklava to snack on which is nice. Overall a super cute place with great cocktails and friendly service!

Yelp
Like many other cities post pandemic, their Downtown area has suffered and been negatively impacted. I checked out Quail State since it is advertised as Fresno's ONLY rooftop bar and to support the downtown area. I gotta say it was super underwhelming. Our drinks were okay. 6.5/10. The food was average. 5/10. I think the worst part is the "rooftop" itself. Such limited views and it is only on the second floor. It's a bit deceiving and I felt like I got catfished. I wouldn't come back.

Yelp
I saw a reel for this place on IG, and knew when a friend came to visit we needed to try it out. We went in July 2023, so I'll need to try it again to see if anything has changed. I'd heard from the staff when we sat down that there had recently been changes to the food menu so their usual options weren't available. We had three options so we went with that, and a few non alcoholic drinks. The drinks were great, but the food was basic. I think this is a more bar centered restaurant. Since it was summer we couldn't try the rooftop balcony, but it looked awesome, and it would be worth checking out again.

Yelp
Excellent customer service , we feeling that I I be home , the workers are so respect and friendly and Kind.
google avatar

Ann D.

Yelp
The service here was just ok. The girl cleaning the tables needs to dilute the spray she is using to clean the tables. The ambiance outside and inside is clean hence the smell of bleach in your lungs. I got the guava and gin drink which was very good.

Yelp
Quail state is a hidden gem downtown on Fulton. The ambiance reminds me much of an old bar back home in NYC, but with a modern touch. Very friendly bartenders and fantastic cocktails and food. I've posted a few pictures of the cocktails and I will update and post the names. I do believe their drink menu does rotate, so what you see today may not be there tomorrow. I definitely recommend and cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
I have been meaning to add a review for awhile. The last time I went to Quail State was on Mother's Day for their brunch. This was apparently during a time when they decided to slim down their food menu and not serve people. They were promoting only drinks at the bar. The owner Josh was such a jerk. He actually made my mom cry on Mother's Day. I'll never forget that jerk. They also added an extra charge to our tab. He said it was for the tip. I told him we had a small party. He said that this was their new practice. It was obvious he was implementing some shady business practices. It looks like Josh is no longer the owner, and who knows if he still lives in Fresno, but what a jerk. Seemed like he thought he was better than his customers. The two business owners definitely swindled Fresno and probably took the money and ran. Shady af.

Yelp
I've been to Quail State twice, and am finally leaving a review. The atmosphere is so unique. I love that you get to take an elevator up, and I love the way that they've decorated the place. The lights are cute, especially at night, and everyone that works there is super friendly. I believe they only have one cook, so the food does take a while to come out! First visit: - Portabello mushroom burger: Loved it! Surprisingly had a lot of flavor! I came at night so I wonder if this is an evening-only menu. - Drinks: Forgot what I got, but it wasn't my favorite. Second visit: - Tacos: Great taste, but sooo tiny. I had about 3 bites for $10. - Grilled cheese & Tomato Soup: Disappointing... The bread was extremely dry and the sandwich was just not good. -Wagyu burger: Lacking in taste. -Drinks: Forgot what I got, but I didn't like these either. The presentation of the food, atmosphere, and service is great but the overall taste and portions are what's stopping me from coming back another time.

Yelp
Wow, what a HUGE disappointment. This is absolutely NOT a roof top bar. It's located on the second floor of a prominent downtown Fresno building. City views is a stretch. The inside is not an inviting space to relax. The service was atrocious. The female bartender acted as if she had never been asked a question in her life. We asked about the building and her response was "I don't know I just work here", really!? She acted as if it was annoying that we were even there. We were in the middle of a conversation and she took a phone call from her cell phone and walked away. There is no AC, enjoying a cocktail inside was miserable, worst old fashioned ever (the other drinks ordered were also not quality) and we paid in cash and there wasn't enough change in the cash drawer..... Very low class establishment, don't waste your time. Bespoke down the street was fabulous!

Yelp
My friend and I were looking at bars to go to in Fresno and this was the first bar we tried that we could get a reservation from. We were expecting the kitchen to be open but when we came in they said kitchen was closed so there's that. It also said it was a rooftop bar online and that wasn't the case. They had a back open patio but it's pretty small and the bar was located on the second floor not the very top. It was completely empty when we entered so no reservation was truly needed. There's like 4 people that work there but service is so slow. People had to go up to the bar to order more drinks or pay their tab. I ordered the lemon drop and it was okay. It turned out a lot more tart than expected. My friend ordered the paloma and she said it wasn't that strong. There's a lot of couples that come to this bar so it's a cute place for a more intimate setting.
google avatar

Jay D.

Yelp
The weather was nice last night so decided to stop by and enjoy the patio. The two girls behind the bar seemed in a bad mood/not friendly at all and the drinks made didn't have any flavor to them at all. I'd get better service if they want people coming back!
google avatar

Mary Cruz R.

Yelp
They have bottomless mimosas! Their food menu isn't too big. But the items they have are very delicious. Reservations are preferred, go on their website it takes you right to it and they have an online menu too. The service was really good. All the staff is very friendly.

Trisha V.

Yelp
This use to be a 5 star rate and go to spot to take my friends for a good night. The bartenders and servers were fun and great company. The standards of service has definitely gone down hill. I haven't been here for a while, and hyped this place up to my friends that never been. Last time I was here, you had check in, a host seats you, and a server serves you at the table. As we walked in, no greeting nor acknowledgment, just an awkward silence from the bartender, which made us automatically feel unwelcomed. Our unwelcomed feelings were confirmed how bartender treated us afterward. She wasn't afraid to show her annoyance needing to direct us to order from her and seat yourself, and the nuisance to make our drinks. Mind you, the place was dead on Saturday night, and I'm pretty it was her friends were at the bar and we were interrupting her time with them. How dare we?!??! I do gotta say, standard of drinks were still up to par, but gosh the service kills the vibe!

Yelp
I had a great experience here at Quail State. I hadn't been to the downtown area in a long time, but had heard of certain restaurants revamping the area. I was pleasantly surprised of the great atmosphere Quail State provided. I came here with a friend and enjoyed a nice time with dinner and drinks at the bar. The inside was small by most standards, but had ample room to move around and provided a flow that was perfect for the size of the establishment. They are true to their word that this is a bar with food, and not a restaurant. If you're looking for a big meal that's gonna fill you way up, then this is not your place. If you're looking for good solid drinks, friendly and prompt service, and good food to eat along the way with your drinks, then this is your spot! I had the bartender make us a special drink from the map with spirits of our choosing. Then enjoyed a couple glasses of champagne as we awaited our food. Had the asparagus and mussels for an appetizer. Then enjoyed the duck breast for the main course. All in all the food was good and not overwhelming, left room to fill up on another cocktail before leaving. Had a great time and definitely recommend to others. Thanks!

Yelp
Disappointed. My wife and tried this place for the first time after hearing about it a while back. -Service was ok, not very good but not terrible I guess. -Prices are up there, $15-$18 per cocktail and not very good. My wife said it was the worse Moscow mule she'd ever had. -Ambiance was ok. Balcony with some city view was unique but honestly, the inside was a little trashy. Dead plants, tables and chairs sort of thrown around etc. Overall, with those prices and the overall experience, I don't see us going back.

Yelp
First date with a great guy. We figured out to go here a couple days ago and he made reservations to have lunch at the rooftop. The day has arrived and I'm pretty excited to check this place out with great company. Upon arrival, a nice worker directs you up the elevator with good day wishes. Arrived. Really nice restaurant! My date set up a reservation at the rooftop. Very nice! Tables set up there with cactus everywhere. They only serve brunch foods until the dinner menu at 5pm. Waters brought to start. From there, drinks offered. My date ordered the bottomless Mimosa and the waitress offered me to try to sample. Happily did and it was great. Ordered it. From there, my date ordered the Cheese Board and chicken Caprese Sandwich. Out on the rooftop is very nice. You hear trains and it's quaint. The waitress was great! Checked on us frequently. The cheese board was absolutely delicious. From the cheese to bread and honey! Fantastic! We split that. Then we split the Caprese sandwich and it was fantastic! Deliciousness! Red wine with refill was really fantastic too! Great service and delicious food! Highly recommended

Yelp
Quail State is a joke. No food or appetizers, and happy hour is from 12:00 noon till 4:00. It use to go until 7:00. Who are they kidding, they don't even open until 5:00. And the rooftop lounge, you are on the second floor, the roof is over the parking garage, not exactly the the 14th floor.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
The bar staff was so helpful navigating the new menu and talking about the bar bites. Felicia Taylor and Jess were very enthusiastic and upbeat. The music and ambiance was nice and clean inside. Perfect weather for an outside patio visit to catch up with friends

Yelp
"Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave, and grow old wanting to get back to." The Central Valley is rich with culture, linguistically diverse and boasts a plethora of incredible produce and game. At Quail State, they utilize all of this beautiful bounty to create fresh, handcrafted cocktails and delicious food. They also serve beer brewed from all over California and have an exceptional selection of natural wines (farmed organically w/ no additives). Having been raised in a small town, it was always my ambition to get away and move to a big city. Quail State is a reminder that the grass is greener where you water it. Big thanks to Josh & Hayley for executing their vision faithfully and putting Fresno on the map.

Yelp
Some friends and I came here for Sunday brunch, we really wanted bottomless mimosas. We made the reservation the night before but the only reservation they had left were all after 2:00. So we picked a 2:15 which is rather late for a brunch but we didn't mind because we did make a reservation rather late. We get there and get seated and they let us know that last call was 2:45. If we had known last call was that close we would have never went. Despite this we proceeded to order bottomless mimosas $20 per person. That's fine. It was already 2:20 I already decided we're gunna smash these mimosas to get at least 3 glasses worth before 2:45. Then second pour comes and our waitress tells us they're out of champagne and that they're only charging us for one round. I was super disappointed. Sunday brunch was looking pretty gloomy. It was a very small menu, limited items, limited drinks but We ordered the pancakes, lox bagels, and the cubano. They were all very tasty. But a tad bit pricey. My cubano sandwich was $18. For some reason I was expecting a actual Cuban sandwich, so I didn't care if it was $18 because we don't have Cubans in Fresno but then I get this pulled pork sandwich with ham--delicious but not what I was expecting. We ended up at another place for lunch because we were still hungry and wanted more drinks. I'm not sure if I'd do brunch here again. The overall experience was disappointing. Despite this, I will definitely come back to try their dinner menu because I heard that is amazing.

Yelp
Giving this place 4 stars overall! Reservations are needed if you want to sit in the rooftop area! The rooftop is cutely decorated and is great for pictures. Service was good, and the gal who took our order gave us good recommendations. I got the secret garden drink (non-alcoholic) because I had work the next day, and it was delicious! My friend and I both ordered the halibut. It had good flavor, but was a bit dry. The menu had just a few options. They specify that it is because they a bar - not a restaurant. We also split the vegan creme brûlée for dessert. It was yummy, not too heavy and had a nice sugar crust. Would visit this place again with friends.

Yelp
We went for it! After what seemed to be an exclusive, always booked, VIP dining experience, we decided to book an early dinner at Quail State and see what all theQ1 fuss is about... After the 4 hour phone ahead confirmation by a friendly lovely host, I confirmed. Excitement had increased by the professionalism of the treatment without having tasted a bite. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly door man who escorted us to the elevators. The experience of traveling via elevator up to a restaurant in Fresno for me was a first. When we entered, once again we were greeted by a friendly host who set the vibe for the remainder of our evening. Food - Drinks- Service - Jesse waitress - Our experience felt like a change of pace from our routine Northern Fresno favorites. In fact, who knows Fresno?? Maybe the Downtown Dining District is the proverbial 'sleeping giant', waking and rising, in the wake of the night's air epicurean symphonies on Fulton.

Yelp
Quail State effortlessly lands at 5 stars for the outstanding food and great service I had as this is where this weeks travels took me. Looked up some food spots and wound up coming here for dinner on a beautiful, sunny not Cali hot AF day and walked away mind blown and full as can be. I was seated at the bar which is the place I love to sit especially when travelling alone. I feel you get a real feel for the service and get to see the various drinks being made right in front of you. Quail State is cocktail heaven, and they handcraft them using some very special ingredients and a dash of love. I went right for the Big Easy and found myself thinking of a Wisconsin Old Fashioned only way more souped up. I would never imagine pairing bourbon, rum, coffee syrup and a few other accompaniments all together over a big ice cube making for one hell of a sipper! I had 3 to be exact and everyone of them was delicious! For the eats I ordered the pan seared salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was as tender as can be, literally melting in my mouth. What made the dish though was the cauliflower puree with pickled pear onions and broccolini. The puree was whipped so smooth it tasted as though they were the most delicate blend of mashed potatoes but had all the cauliflower flavor. Bite into that with a chunk of salmon and my mouth was signing to me! If ever back in Fresno I would come back to Quail State in a heartbeat. They serve up the goods correct! Keep it up and can't wait to see what's on the menu next!

Yelp
"Terrible service. Called ahead, they lied about having a specific liquor. Blamed the "new guy" . Very unprofessional. Drinks took forever. Weren't even offered water. Left before our drinks came. Will never return. View is 90% abandoned vacant hotel. Walked thru a dark alley and over a construction site to get there and back, wouldn't recommend unfortunately.

Yelp
My boyfriend is shy so I gotta do this one. So the environment is cute, really recommend it! If you order an old fashioned or any cocktail that usually requires a molded ice cube or sphere then make sure you ask if they have them available prior to ordering the drink to ensure you are not disappointed. I myself was disappointed, but shit happens I'll get over it lol Overall it's a nice aesthetic place here in Fresno for a quick cute drink, or two. Reasonably priced. Great social interaction with the bartenders also, always a plus. Their food could be better but I come for the refreshments, obviously.

Yelp
We visited Quail State mid April 2021, soon after they opened for socially distanced indoor dining. I love the space! The ambiance, vibe and decor are warm and inviting with plants and books around. Such a great vibe. We love to sit at the bar eating and enjoying drinks while we watch the bartenders at work. This is such an awesome place for that. This visit we had a table for two near the entrance. We enjoyed our food very much and the drinks equally! Our server was great, she was training another server and we didn't really mind because she was just as great and meant a second person attending us - win :) The rooftop space looks like another cool space, looking forward to dining there once it warms up! Thank you for bringing your spirits, fine dining, and good times to downtown Fresno, Quail State, cheers!

Yelp
The elevator entrance gives this place anticipation to an exclusive experience. Once inside, you realize this has become an attractive place solely for their aesthetic and being deemed a "rooftop bar", the only one in Fresno. However, being that this is on the second floor and there being no view, rooftop isn't an accurate description. Maybe garage roof would be more accurate since they are relying on technicalities . Especially since you see the building tower over you at your table (if you made the reservation for roof top seating). Not only are there no misters to combat the heat, but the anticipation of the ambience is dismissed with the realization, this place is only gate kept because it is for those who will not leave Fresno to experience a true rooftop bar. This is a place for people who like to take picture of their food and build up a life for themselves in images than experience something incredible. No one at the tables is truly talking rather than telling their party to pose for a picture or "influencer" post. If I were to ever return, I think the indoor bar might be a better option. Presentation is what they rely on (aesthetics). The drinks are beautiful but oh so small. The food was decent but again for the price, at least be mind blowing in flavor or better presentation. The lack of flavor added to a full evening and made me wrap up after 51 minutes of seating on a garage building.m

Yelp
So excited to finally try this place out. I called ahead and the person on the phone was very informative and recommended making a reservation because first come first serve time can be unpredictable. We made a reservation and we're a little early but they were able to seat us. There is a 90min seating window. They make it a point to mention they are a bar and not a restaurant, so the food menu is not huge. We tried the hummus, truffle purple potato, black garlic Cesar salad & the spiced chicken. Loved them all! The drinks we ordered were Gilbert's grape & Humble pie. Very aesthetic in the glasses and garnishes, strong and I love how the menu details everything that is in each drink. Great spot for drinks and some light bites. The vibe is very intimate with low lighting so perfect for girls night or date night. Can't wait to come back and try out the rooftop on a warmer night!

Yelp
FYI: To get a spot on the rooftop for 6:30, I had to make a reservation about three weeks before. I love supporting a downtown restaurant! First of all, all the people that worked there were awesome- there's a great vibe at this place. The drinks sound and looked pretty good, but I don't drink. I did order a very nice non-alcoholic drink (7 bucks though??) The food....well, it was good, but it is definitely a little too pricey for what you get. For the small plates, we ordered the hummus, which was fine, the beet tartar, which was also good, but very small, and the cauliflower, which was tasty but way overpriced. We also ordered the burger, which was....a burger, and the special that night was a quail (I didn't realize how tiny quail is!). All in all, we enjoyed the evening and the restaurant. I would definitely recommend checking it out at least once, but we probably won't go back until they expand their menu and maybe make the portions a bit larger.

Yelp
Quail State is a super unique (especially for Fresno) cocktail bar and eatery located in the historic Pacific Southwest building in Downtown Fresno. The ambiance, service, and food are all great, and the cocktails are pretty good. Let's break it down: Ambiance: A BEAUTIFUL rooftop. While the patio is just two stories up, I actually think that makes it a better ambiance than if it was at the top of the building. Here, you are both above and surrounded by downtown Fresno buildings, making it really feel like you are in the middle of a big city. The actual seating, lighting, and aesthetics are wonderful. All in all, this is probably the best dining/drinking ambiance in Fresno. Service: Wonderful. Super friendly and knowledgeable server and host. Food and drinks came out extremely quickly and exactly as ordered. All in all, top notch! Food: Really, really good, I just want to see more of it. The burger was delicious, and the accompanying potatoes and spicy ketchup were super yummy. The summer squash appetizer was maybe a bit small but otherwise really tasty. I'm surprised they make a point of saying "we have a small menu because we aren't a restaurant," because I really think their food is a huge strength they should play up more! Cocktails: Good, but just good. We came directly from that other fancy downtown cocktail bar where we had a few drinks first, and the cocktails at Quail State were noticeably less tasty (mostly because the ingredients seemed to not balance as well or harmonize as well). We loved the nod to local ingredients, the map concept is cool, and be assured that the cocktails here are better than in 95% of other Fresno bars, but they aren't quite at that highest level that one would expect based on the ambiance and the prices. Odds and ends: the bathrooms are in huge need of updating, they were pretty dirty and run down. For such a nice cocktail bar, we were surprised. The online reservation system is easy and super nice! All in all, a great spot for a "night out!"

Yelp
Excellent drinks. Please don't ever do away with the 'Aloe you alot' what an exquisite drink with a wonderful flavor profile. The quail egg burger medium rare was melt-in-your-mouth tasty with both flavor and texture. I really enjoyed it! The olive oil Choco cake was not overly sweet, it was just a tad small of a portion but I loved the glaze on it- had an espresso note to it. The owners are just absolute sweethearts, very genuine and I can tell they really care about your experience and open to any feedback. Our server was very bubbly and friendly. Looking forward to the rooftop opening which will really heighten the experience (no pun intended ).

Yelp
I've been eyeing this place for a while on Yelp. Thanks Covid for the delay. I will say they are doing a wonderful job adapting to the Covid craziness. We sat on their street level patio. The rooftop bar it typically is, although it's only the 2nd level of a 14 story building ‍, is not open at the moment. Hopefully that changes because the pictures look beautiful! Our service was great. The cocktails are very pretty. They are also very strong. I was a bit disappointed in the cocktail selection since this is supposed to be their specialty. I'm a rum and Tequila girl but there's not enough to select from. The lack of options also runs into their food selection as well. I had actually just came from appetizers and drinks and a different place and was a little put off by the limited selections. This may be due to the pandemic but if so I don't understand why. On to the food! Our table had a Quail egg Burger, Salmon, The Citrus Chicken, and I opted for the Cauliflower appetizer and added the Salmon. I was told the burger was good as well as the salmon. Good but not knock your socks off. The cauliflower was delicious. It's a steak so cut it up and mix it with the sauce and crispy herbs it comes with.... YUM!! The undeniable star of the show was the chicken. My husband ordered it and I literally wanted to steal it. For the price the plate was worth the cost. I think it's the best chicken I've ever had in my entire life. SO tender and flavorful! I don't know how they pack all that flavor into the chicken but it's and hands down MUST TRY! Our service was great. Our servers were attentive and prompt. They bring food from across the street and drinks from the bar on the second floor but the wait was tolerable and understandable. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I loved the blankets. They have a 90 minute table time so at the 90 minute mark you're told your reservation is coming to an end. I understand they're trying to make the most of the limited table situation but it also kept us from ordering more drinks or dessert. They do have security there which was nice and parking was easy to find near by. It's Downtown so just expect that.

Yelp
Small restaurant makes this place sound loud but the outside is larger and only on 2nd floor rooftop. We did spot a pest which made us second guess about ordering food but their kitchen is closed for 6-8 months for remodeling we were told... You can bring outside food in but I wish they would display this info when this place is reservations only. As for drinks it was just ok they ran out of cocktail glasses and gave us beer glasses. For the price I would think they drink would look delicious. One thing I hate is a dirty restroom and this place had it. The service was really slow but we got to chat.

Yelp
Was so excited to finally try this place, it's been so long anticipated. While they're only seating on the patio it's so well done with complimentary blankets, lights and security to make sure it's an enjoyable experience. The reservation system was easy to use and I love the text reminders. We were promptly seated and provided menus and water. They were short on menus so we shared but the server was great at explaining their options and was very friendly. We ordered the adventure drink which is such a cool experience, pick your liquor and roll the dice! I ordered the short ribs and I tried their salmon and chicken. All delicious but my favorite was the short rib. They have a very limited menu, think wedding style when you have a few protein choices. I hope it's expanded in the future. We also had a a few other drinks I tried the Aloe Cucumber drink and it was excellent! Would definitely order again. I only wish we could've stayed longer they have a 90 minute limit that I wasn't aware prior to arriving. We were enjoying ourselves so much we didn't have time for dessert and it felt a bit rushed, only reason I would give it less than 5 stars. I can't wait to go back once it has more seating and opens up on the rooftop!

Yelp
Worst service. If I could give negative stars, I would. Now anyone that asks about quail state, I say absolutely not!
