Quality Meat Market

This is a wonderful local meat market -- the owners are so friendly, and they have visited the small farms that they buy from to ensure the quality of the meat they sell. We have bought poultry here -- which is organic, free-range, and not frozen -- at amazingly reasonable prices. Less than half of what we might pay at an overpriced chain market for similar products. Also glad to support a small, family-owned business -- and we always pay in cash since those extra fees add up.

A small market where a respectable Algerian Muslim sells, we were late but he served us before the shop closed, he has halal meat, you can be sure of that. We will return back again.

Great neighborhood meat market! The owners were so kind and helped me find exactly what cut of meat I needed. They physically showed me the options and offered recommendations with pricing. There is also a diverse selection of spices to dress up your cuts. 100% will go back!

I always buy meat from them and they never disappoint! Their meat quality is great and so is their service! I usually place my order over the phone and they have it ready for pick up at the promised time. The people running the business are really nice and the store is always clean! Highly recommend!!

Very cordial, friendly, clean and professional butcher. He runs the shop with his wife. He enjoys interacting with customers (better than watching TV at home as he says). You can know how the animals were raised, where (in a farm in MA), and how they are slaughtered as he is involved in the process. He is also knowledgeable about different kinds of beef cuts and how grill them. You can get a fine piece of flank beef for your steak. He always has chicken and beef, but lamb comes only Wednesday or Thursday (i am not sure). Highly recommended

Since we found about this place we started to consume more beef, chicken and lamb. Great quality and fresh meats and the taste is something else. I drive a half hour each way every couple of weeks just to get to this place. Its worth it and we feel happy to feed our kids good food. Just call before you go because sometimes they run out of what you want.

Just found Quality Meat. The best steak we've had at a very reasonable price. The owners are very friendly running a tiny shop on their own and delivering great quality. Will buy all our chicken and other meat only from this tiny, friendly shop.

I love this place! The couple who run it are really sweet, and the meat is FANTASTIC! I always get compliments on it! Often times the ground beef is ground right on the spot.

I found this butcher through a good friend. The owner and his wife are the most wonderful people. I have never been happier. Everything Is fresh and the butcher is very knowledgeable, giving advice when needed. Highly recommend to anyone. I now call ahead with my order and it ready to do when I arrive.

Such a gem of a butcher shop! Picked up some short ribs that were exactly what we needed. Had a lot of unique spices and other grocery options, too.

So I had a hankering for some roast beef. Didn't get the name yet the man was great; so helpful. Cooked the beef and the quality is what gives a five star rating! I'll be back!!!!!

Abu-Raheemeh and his wife Sara are the best ! Halal, tender , clean meat with an excellent customer service. I drive from Newton every week to this place , one of the best in Massachusetts . Highly recommended.

Went in on a mission seeking ground lamb for a recipe one afternoon and the owner told me that he was all out. I left the store and walked around the village a bit and found that Tony's had already closed. I can't remember why I walked back into this store, probably to ask another question but I'm glad I did. Just as I walked back in the guy behind the counter waved me over and said that his delivery people had just arrived. He dips out back and comes back in with an entire lamb slung over his shoulder and asks me what I need. Not sure about the other meats but for lamb they sell by the part so rather than ask for "2lbs ground" I ended up purchasing a lamb shoulder because he told me that he could get good ground meat and a few chops out of it. A few minutes later I walk out of the store with fresh ground meat and a couple of chops, all wrapped up nice and tight. Meat was fantastic both for the meal we had been planning but also for the chops we put on the grill. I'm not a huge meat purchaser but I like small businesses and it's particularly nice to see places like this (and Tonys) in Roslindale Village where the guy behind the counter is an expert butcher who does the cutting and selection onsite and in front of you. We'll be back, can't wait to try the chicken.

Try the chicken. No, really. We moved to Roslindale a month or so ago, and after going to the Village Market a few times, realized why so many meat markets and bakeries were around the Village... Anyway, I went into QMM one Saturday afternoon, and was greeted by a super nice guy behind the counter. I ask how much for a whole chicken. "Seven, seven-fifty," he replies. Sounds good, so I order one. He goes out back, and comes back holding a fresh chicken. He holds it up for me to review. It was smaller than what you'd get in the Village Market or Stop & Shop, but that's because this was a local, all-natural bird. I nodded in acceptance. He offered to quarter the chicken, but i declined. I payed the man and walked out. My fiancée roasted the hen that night, and it was fantastic. This is totally my go-to meat market now.

Such an amazing find of a place. Local shop, with extremely, and we mean extremely fresh meats. The owner is so nice and helpful. Highly recommend this local place in Roslindale.

So I've gone here about a dozen times, usually when the Village Market's meat selection is for lack of a better word, lacking and every time I've come here I've never gotten a bad piece of meat. The owner and his wife are always behind the counter and he is very knowledgeable about the different cuts of meat. He will butcher the meat for you to order, so don't expect to grab a steak off the rack and pay. He also has a little middle eastern grocery section in the front of the store with spices, oils and rice if you need any of that before you go home. I'm 90% sure that all the meat he carries is halal if you care about that kind of thing one way or the other. Personally, as a ...large... Christian Carnivore I don't care one way or the other, as long as it comes out good, and it always does!

This place is awesome - they're courteous and have quality meat. Thank goodness they're local to me!

The chicken is pretty fantastic here, but I've had great experiences with the lamb and beef too. It's great to have a place that will cut to order; I've gotten whole chickens, had them cut up for frying as well as butterflied for grilling. They have a small grocery type area in the front in case you were in need of spices, oils, or giant bags of rice. One of the best things is the service; Mel is SO nice and willing to explain what he's doing (I had endless questions the day I went in for short ribs). All in all, a great neighborhood halal butcher.

I'm now getting all my meat (except pork--not halal!) at Quality Meats. The lamb, beef and goat is locally raised (from a farm in Athol, MA) and slaughtered. The meat is excellent. Best to call ahead to let Mel know what you need, especially if you are looking for lamb. Wednesday is lamb day!

Amazingly nice gentleman. He cut the meat off of the gigantic piece of animal (that's where meat comes from, I learned) and it was fresh and delicious. I asked him for something that I could cook easily and he was sweet.

Amazing selection of Halal meat (you'll need to stick with Tony's for your pig-based needs) at great prices. Mel will custom cut anything you ask, and he's happy to order larger roasts and lesser known items if he's got a couple days notice. Some of the best chicken money can buy - also carries beef, lamb and goat. Stop by and see Mel, you won't be disappointed.

We absolutely love Quality Meat Market and make a monthly pilgrimage to stock up on all of our faves. We regularly purchase lamb chops, steaks, and ground meat (all halal). We also purchase chicken, which is organic and out of this world. We truly only buy our meat and poultry here, totally worth the trip. You will taste the difference from the usual grocery store stuff. There is also a small grocery with tons of ethnic goods, lots of spices, couscous, etc. And the most important thing is that Mo the butcher is an incredibly nice guy and always very helpful! If you have a large order, it helps to call ahead so he can have it ready, otherwise there may be a small wait, he cuts your meat to order. All this to say... I highly recommend you visit Mo if you are looking for great meat and delicious poultry!

Mel is the best in the area. The only thing better than the quality and the price of the meat is the service. Mel will cut to order and chat you up while he's doing it. Mel is as big a neighborhood asset as one could hope for. And the chicken really does taste better than words can describe - young, fresh, organic - what more could you want?

I can't speak highly enough of Mel and Quality Meat Market! His meats are all fresh, local, and at least the chicken is organic (but possibly more is, too). He can do just about any cut you need, and is very helpful when answering my novice questions. The prices are also extremely reasonable, and you know you're getting your meats from a good place. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

I moved to Roslindale in January and only went into this store for the first time yesterday, but now I'm kicking myself for having waited so long. I went in looking for goat meat, which is generally a bit harder to find than many other meats. I was a bit surprised when Mel pulled out a whole quarter of a goat (I'm not used to seeing my meat look so much like the animal it comes from), but I must say it looked beautiful. The color and texture looked so much more rich than anything I've ever seen at the grocery store, or even the farmer's markets, where the meat is generally frozen. The meat was so fresh (Mel told me this goat had been alive just the day before!), comes from right down the road in Athol, MA, and the animals are grass fed. And the prices are very reasonable. Last night I cooked up the goat in the slow cooker, and it tastes incredible. I don't know if I'll ever buy meat anywhere else again, seriously. Plus Sarah and Mel are so kind and helpful and clearly put love into what they are doing-- a secret ingredient that must contribute to the tastiness of the meat they sell. The store is so humble and unassuming, but don't let that cause you to pass it by. This place is a gem!

The owner is the tops - have him mix you up some kefta from fresh ground beef. The lamb and chicken are also terrific at this little gem.

Love this market! Although not many products, the customer service is great and very respectful. Prices were actually a little cheaper then those at store chains around the area. The meat is very fresh and tastes great. We just moved to a new area and drove about 30 min to try this shop. If your in a rush you can call ahead to make an order. Very surprised to find halal Salami! Just wish they had more products in the store.

Echoing most other reviewers, I am giving a "what-what" to the Quality Market. One of the most pleasant shopping experiences. We have been going here for three years since moving to Roslindale. At first, we just went for chicken. Which lives up to folks words-tasty, great price,etc. We've tried a lot of things he has to offer since then, and every time he trims it up right in front of us, answers any questions we might have, and offers up some quality advice to prepare it. All in all, a great spot.
