The Best Affordable Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Don’t expect to sit down at this cramped French Quarter deli, but for a sandwich on the go, piled high with deli meats or if a po’ boy, fried shrimp and oysters, this is a hidden gem. There’s also breakfast, barbecue plates, and late-night bites like jalapeno poppers, wings, and a cheap as hell corn dog. Other favorites include the mac and cheese, burgers, and meatloaf. Bring cash. Did we mention it’s 24/7?" - Beth D’Addono

We really like the Quartermaster Deli on Bourbon Street. This is a neighborhood store, well stocked with things the local people need. They also have a great kitchen with hot meals and sandwiches. The decor is very casual and the service is great. A really good spot to have something to eat or pickup groceries.

Let me let you in on a New Orleans favorite that flies under the radar unless you’re in the know: The Quarter Master, or as the locals lovingly call it, the Nellie Deli. This joint has been slinging straight-up Southern comfort for 30 years, and buddy, they do not miss. I’m talking food so good, it’ll make you question everything you thought you knew about late-night eats. And here’s the kicker—these saints will deliver it to your doorstep 24 hours a day. That’s right, anytime. Rain, shine, Mardi Gras madness—they’re coming through. Or you can do like I did: call ahead, place your order, and pick it up yourself, which is honestly part of the charm. Their menu? Absolutely stacked. You want hearty? How about daily specials that taste like your grandma’s best Sunday dinner? Hungry? They’ve got half-pound burgers that’ll put your whole week’s calorie count in jeopardy. Feeling classic? Their po’boys are so loaded, you’ll be wrestling your lunch just to keep it in the bread. And they’re cranking this out every single day of the year—every single day, y’all. So whether it’s 3 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning, The Quarter Master is holding it down. Nellie Deli isn’t just a deli; it’s a New Orleans institution. If you haven’t hit it up yet, go ahead and add that to your list of life mistakes—and then go fix it.

I've been ordering from this location for years and have received exceptional services from the cashier to the cook/delivery person. 1st of all, my order was not correct both times within this past 5 days. I also was missing items from my order. The gentleman that took my order over the phone was rude and didn't care when I called expressing my concerns. As a local, I encourage you not to order here (via delivery). You can easily go one block further to NOLA Poboy's and receive better food and service. The person who exerted that awful customer service was there 10/21 at 3:39PM. Guest, terrible customer service is not a part of our ambiance here in the French Quarter. Places lacking communication skills should be avoided.

I visited around 5am looking for a late night bite, and these guys did not disappoint. The guy @ the counter was very patient while I was deliberating over their extensive menu. I ended up ordering the triple decker club with a side of jambalaya. My food was done in like 5 mins, & he even brought it out to my car. They also had a variety of convenience items for purchase, like the Chesapeake Crab Chips that paired well with my club. This was one of the best meals I’ve had visiting NOLA. 11/10 spot, must try!

I'm actually really impressed with the customer service in here, given that l know it's in a very busy location with lots of obnoxious people. Nothing fancy, just a hello and thank you, which is all one needs to have a pleasant shopping experience. Goes to show you it CAN be done, even in New Orleans. Thanks guys!
