Quattro Gigli

"This restaurant occupying a 15C palazzo in the centre of a charming village has a warm and welcoming feel. Here, the chef delights his guests with regional meat and fish specialities, which are served in original ceramic dishes. The restaurant also offers a few guestrooms, the best of which boast panoramic views, as does the outdoor terrace used for summer dining." - Michelin Inspector

I chanced upon a card of this hotel where I stayed for two nights some twelve years ago and memories of lovely food, homely surroundings, the beautiful dining area all came flashing in. It is in a quaint little town called Montopoli situated near Pisa.

Authenticity of how Tuscany really is. They are very diligent on keeping the place clean on a daily basis. Secondly, they have an excellent breakfast bar that is well maintained by kind and hard working staff. Finally the reception and friendliness goes beyond comparison of the places I have been in Italy thus far. Not to mention- the view of Montopoli from being on a hill is rather magnificent.

Read a lot about this place, so made reservations for dinner. The service was very good, friendly and helpful. The food however was not as great as expected. Too salty, sometimes even did not taste very fresh. Last thing: I read great things about the amazing view, but that was also dissapointing, see picture.

We were dazzelled by the green Tuscuny view from the panoramic terrase. It was breathtaking by its endless beauty and quiet peacefullness. The hiatoric hotel has tones of character and feels absolutely intriging. The food at the restaurant was amazing! The salads and the Ragu Lasavna were the highlights for us. We were with the kids and they finished all the dish. There was not a crumb left on the plate. The service was extremely kind and generous and the pricing was more than fair. We warmly recommend the fantastic hotel and restaurant of Quatro Gigli and are looking forward to coming back soon.

We came here 5 years ago and wanted to return because the food was absolutely Amazing. It has been sold and now there are new owners. The hotel is Wonderful and the receptionist upgraded our room which was a sweet surprise. The restaurant wasn’t the same, but still very good! Service was wonderful!

Get here quickly before it changes. This is such a wonderful place. I have just stayed in fourteen hotels, one a night as I cycled down through France, across Corsica including, Paris, Lyon, the medieval Rhone valley. I stayed in some great, memorable places. A couple, not so good. This, however, is the first with a unique wow factor. Not particularly luxurious, with the pompous fake international anonymity of some expensive hotels, but genuine regional charm, authenticity, warmth, with the immediate kindness of friendship. It’s not like staying in a hotel, it’s like visiting your long lost (wealthy) great uncle in Tuscany, who has a house full of helpers and an excellent cook. I can not recommend this place enough, but hurry, changes might be at foot.
