The First Day We Got Our Stars: Richie Lin

"The place he stayed the longest was Peter Gilmore’s Quay. Lin knew he was a latecomer. In addition to the lack in stamina, he would have to also make up the lost time to improve his technique." - MICHELIN Guide Taipei Editorial Team

Google
Great and convienant place to meet up with people for drinks or a quick bit to eat. Close to Circular Quay, the opera house, the rocks and the train. Food is ok and reasonably priced. Great to sit outside in the sun, and enjoy a nice cold beer. Friendly and well trained staff.

Google
Good place for lunch. However not quite well staffed for Friday night service. Have been waiting for 15 min In a queue at the bar to get 2 drinks.

I haven't had the food, but the drinks are fantastic

Google
A nice spot for hanging out on a Saturday morning. The rainbow lorikeets are a treat. Coffee is overpriced for the size and the service is a little surly. Breakfast was nice, poached eggs on sour dough.

I had such a nice experience at Quay Bar. I had a large booking of 18 people and all orders came out promptly and close together, and even though it was a chilly night the staff made sure we were comfortable. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and we had a great view of a few Vivid attractions which was lovely. I would definitely go here again!

Yelp
It's in the heart of tourist spot - Circular Quay. Across the station, there is a historical building of the Custom House. The bar is located right hand side of the 1st floor. There is a small square in front and they have set up outdoor seating with fully equipped bar. They have some craft beers on tap which delighted ale/ipa lovers like myself. It was a bit chilly this night but I can imagine that this would be such a pleasant venue for Sydney Summer nights. I didn't get to try any of their food. But one thing for sure is.... do not leave your food unattended even for a few seconds! Seagulls will steal them!

Yelp
This is basically an open air bar on the southern side of the Circular Quay railway station. It basically occupies about a third of the pedestrian area in front of the Old Customs House. It is okay, but wasn't really one of those places that really inspired me a huge amount (probably because it is a little too touristy for my tastes). Everytime I walk past it though it seems to be open (though I suspect that it closes in line with Sydney's lockout laws) which includes first thing in the morning. While I didn't take the opportunity to grab a coffee here, I'm sure it is one of the things that you take advantage of here. Oh, despite it being open to the air it is basically a non-smoking venue.

Yelp
Went here last night for a few after work drinks, and when I say a few I mean many... Many many! The location is quite nice, you get a nice breeze off the water and the outdoor area is buzzing. It is rather pricey. $16 for a couple of beers is steepish. Anything above that and you're into the $40 shouts. I won't fault them on this though, as you are in a hot spot in the city, and that's what places charge. Just wanted to point it out, so people looking for a cheap night can realise the spend. The service was so-so. Some staff are good whilst others weren't speedy and you are only as good as your weakest link when it gets busy. So you could be waiting a while to get served at bar. The men's toilet is dreadful. Tucked down a dank hallway - it is both tiny, and smelly. Overall it's a pretty good place to chill out, especially after work as it is nearby, and the place draws a good crowd. However, as noted, they have some areas to improve on in service and facilities.

Yelp
This place is either fabulous or terrible, and there is not much in-between those extremes! It becomes ridiculously crowded and meat market like some days, or, late on a Sunday night, in summer, it is lovely, with the sea breezes, and few people. Just enough to keep it interesting. Or as last Sunday, when it was cool, we snuggled twixt two heaters and allowed the chill to thaw from our bones as we sipped on a wonderful passionfruit and rum concoction, delicious! I have no clue about what else was in it, as it was dark at the bar where I ordered, and I had left my reading glasses on the table, but I think there was some lime, and it was not too sweet. It was recommended by the waitress, and she was bang on. Amusement can be found in the ladies toilets, with gaggles of well rounded young women squeezed into various skimpy pieces of "Oh MY!" preening and fixing their faces. How they did not die of hypothermia is beyond me, but I am an old fart these days, and sensible took over long ago!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch the other day and finally found someone who could make a proper martini in Sydney. I got the Quay burger which came cooked perfectly and stuffed with vegetables on a nice bun with fries. Very tasty indeed. Great location right by Circle Quay.

Yelp
Good for drinks but terrible for food service. We had a work lunch there two weeks ago and when I asked for no mayonnaise on my burger they said they couldn't make any modifications. What the heck? It's not like I was asking for a massive change or new ingredients. I just wanted them to omit something. They flat out refused, evidently the chef had let them know that he wasn't doing any modifications that day. The burger was good after I scraped off all the mayo. Luckily I didn't have any food allergies though- you just wouldn't be able to eat there if so. I'll still go for an after work drink but would never eat there again. Worse than the usual mediocre Australian service if you ask me.

Yelp
Caught up with a couple of friends here a few days ago for drinks and a bite to eat. Was nice to sit out in the sunny courtyard and have a few drinks. Food was typical bar type fare.. Nothing overly spectacular but nothing to complain about either. Felt like it might be a bit of a tourist trap being so close to Circular Quay but seemed like there was a fair few "locals" there grabbing lunch. Not a bad place to go if you're in the area.

Yelp
Quay Bar is a great place to meet after work or pre-night out for a few drinks. There's no denying the location is awesome - a bustling little bar, smack bang in the middle of the street outside (& inside) Customs House. Drinks and food are pretty average though. It's easy to have a good time but don't expect anything special beyond the actual location.

Yelp
The Quay Bar at Customs House at Circular Quay is a great place for a drink or bite especially on a nice sunny day. Inside is nice enough but when you have the opportunity to sit out in the sun with a meal or a drink then for me, that will always win over. Happy with our decision my companion and I grab a high table and over a drink have a quick squiz over the menu. There's enough options to choose from and I can't go past trying the arancini balls, my fellow dinner the salt and pepper squid. It's in a busy area just across from the train and ferry stations at Circular Quay and the constantly over populated McDonalds near by but it's pleasantly a lot quieter in this pathed courtyard than you might think. With a spring in my step and the sun shining I decide this might be a good spot to start a walk (crawl even!) around the Rocks. I may even do the full circle and come back to The Quay Bar. If not today, then certainly another day.

Yelp
I visited this bar yesterday and encountered the rudest waiter I have encountered in my entire life. Bars are a social place and it is normal for friendly strangers to be social and interact at a bar. So often when I go to a bar if I am waiting for friends to arrive I find some friendly looking strangers to talk to before settling in to buy some drinks. When I sat down at a table and was having a pleasant conversation with some strangers a waiter rudely came up to our table me asked me if I don't know these people to order a drink or leave. This is the first time in my entire life I have ever been asked to leave a bar. If I was the manager of such a bar and had such a rude employee I would immediately sack him. I will certainly never go back and they have lost a customer for good. I implore everyone to stay away from this bar. RUDEST STAFF EVER!!

Yelp
Quay bar is a charming place to just chill out and have fun with friends. It's allure comes from it's open and friendly atmosphere, so if you enjoy a hearty get together then this might just be the perfect place for you. Their food and wine is sumptuous. There is also no lack of options to choose from since they provide a sweeping assortment of various food and beverage options. To top it all off, their accommodating staff make you feel like a truly valued customer even if it's your first time there. Happy Hour is between 4pm and 6pm (Yay! $5 beers) Monday to Thursday.
