Best Restaurants and Bars in Collingswood, New Jersey, Near Philly | Eater Philly

"Sahar Soleymani’s bright and casual Venezuleun restaurant pays homage to her family roots, serving dishes like fluffy corn arepas stuffed with shredded chicken and empanadas with cilantro mojo. Try the loaded yuca fries and specials like the Mexican street corn, and make sure to save room for a homemade churro. Order online for a speedy pickup." - Ernest Owens

Google
Absolutely delicious place with several gluten free options. Tried this while in town and got a rica arepa and yuca fries and HOOOOOOOO BUDDY this is so good! Whatever the green creamy sauce is, it's fantastic. Very happy we stopped.

Natalia Spinelli

Google
Authentic & homemade! Delicious! Get the mozzarella cheese stick (forgot what they are called!) YUM! 95%of their menu is gluten free (authentically not intentionally). The empanadas are Devine! Flavorful! The portions are lasted! The meat empanadas are soooo good! Very affordable as well. Which is rare in this part of town....

Google
I had never tried Venezuelan food before but I got so excited to see gluten free Latin American food and I ordered several things. Everything is SO GOOD. The Rica Arepa, the beef empanadas, the besito empanadas the jawn empanadas (Philly cheesesteak filling), the cachapa, the tajadas. Everything was delicious. I’m so glad I have leftovers to last two more nights. Everything is seasoned well. The shredded beef is flavorful and tender. The plantains in the arepa and the tajadas were perfectly sweet and browned. The empanadas are a good size and they don’t skimp on the filling at all. I was a little disappointed the toppings I selected on my arepa were all completely left out. But the food was still very good. I’ll definitely be making this trip again.

Google
Had a very good dinner here. Food was very good with fresh ingredients and the Arepas were authentic. We ordered the Shaggy and the Westmont and were very happy with them. The sauces were also very good, especially the Guasacaca. I will return for sure.

Google
Yes! Food is always so flavorful, never overly spicey. Can't go wrong with Que Ricas! We ordered for a family dinner, Carne empanadas, pollo empanadas, harvest empanadas (sweet potato, beans & kale), sides of beans, Fried yuca/casava, plain rice and rica rice. Would have taken more pictures, but the food got devoured. Everyone enjoyed it, even the kids! There is a dipping sauce that comes with empanadas- It smells like tomatillo and adds flavor. Personally we love the sauce that comes with the yuca, it is a garlic packed creamy sauce- get extra! They do larger orders for events too. Staff is always kind and helpful.

Google
Que Ricas is a wonderful family-run place. The food is amazing - best empanadas and patacón you'll find north of Venezuela, and if the special of the day is cachapa, get it! Everyone is friendly and they're happy to tell you about the menu if you have questions. Lots of items are gluten free (even the empanadas!) so your celiac tummy is safe here. Bring an empty stomach because the portions are big and you will not want to put your fork down.

Google
Loved the food. So many gluten free options and served hot. The person taking my order at the counter definitely knew his stuff. Kitchen staff was friendly.

Google
They make some pretty killer sauces that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Might be original recipes or they might be a regional thing, idk. But they’re really good. The bread and crusts and stuff like that are also pretty unique. Definitely the crispiest empanada crust I’ve ever had. Totally different texture from the Mexican version we’ve all had before. Texture is super light, super crisp, really good. The sandwich bread is another one I’ve never had. Also good. And the mozz sticks have some kind of puff pastry or croissant dough or something that’s really good. Support small businesses people. McDonald’s has already taken enough of your money as it is.

Yelp
Mexican food is my favorite cuisine. I have a tried and true restaurant but I'm always on the look out for local places. We were greeted immediately by a very nice young man who answered our questions. There is inside seating. We ordered Chicken tinga tacos, a Jawn empanada and churros with chocolate sauce. The Jawn empanada was delicious. 100/10 (a bit biased because I'm a Philly Jawn IYKYK) The Chicken tinga tacos were excellent as well. 10/10 The churros were very tasty and I should add, not terribly sweet. 9/10 Overall, a good first impression and I will be sure to return.

Yelp
I came before I'm not sure what food they serve. I found what I want to eat. But I just read all the menu. But food catch my eye was only potocones plantain sandwich. Sounds like jibarito my favorite sandwich!! I asked what inside of sandwich. I feel I will order Veg but OMG is sound more delicious so I order OMG... wait few minutes more than my partner but I can wait for what I want to eat . Just make me more smile to wait. Few minutes later Came food and I bite OMG potocones. it is heaven. I was thinking about this long time. Inside of meet is very juicy tender shred beef and cheese melting in my mouth . yes again OMG! I finished very happy feeling. I will definitely come back when I will be near by !! Thanks good food!

Yelp
I haven't had too much Venezuelan food so I cannot attest to its authenticity but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the Curvy Queen arepa. It had chicken with avocado and plantains. The flavors were on point. The dough was light and on the thinner side so it didn't stand up to the fillings. Overall, I would get it again. It was super filling - the size is deceiving. The tequenos appetizer was their version of a mozzarella stick. It was definitely a different take on one of my favorites but the cheese wasn't melted due to ordering take out. That happens. Next time I would heat them up. The sauce that came with it was absolutely delicious. I tried a bite of the guava and mozzarella empanada. It was crunchy and the guava was good. Again, the cheese wasn't melty but it's a take out time delay issue.

Yelp
First time here and I was not disappointed! The arepas are soooo good plus the yuca fries! The best yuca fries I've ever eaten in my life
google avatar

Yelp
Beef Empanadas were great, so I will definitely continue ordering from this place. I didn't care for the chicken empanadas, the seasoning was weird.
google avatar

Yelp
some of the best fucking food I've ever had in my life. The staff is really kind and helpful, and I cannot get over the empanadas. I plan to have them cater my wedding one day.

Yelp
Easiest five star review I've ever written. This place is incredible! I live close by and have eaten here several times over the years, and the food is always superb. It's Venezuelan comfort food - so filling, so delicious, so satisfying. Last night we ordered the shredded beef cozy style, the shredded beef hangover style, and several different empanadas. The quality of the food is no joke! The beef was juicy and flavorful, the sides were abundant, and the empanadas were absolute perfection. Soft yet firm and crusty with inventive fillings. So much amazing food and all for a reasonable price! I ordered the food on a Saturday night and it was ready inside of 15 minutes. I picked it up at about 6:30 and the place was completely empty, so definitely more of a take out place. Regardless, the food is incredible, and I will be back again and again in the future. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Really bummed because I've wanted to try this place for a while, but waited til I was finally in the area. Thank goodness, bc if I drove an hour to get here for this, it wouldn't have been worth it. The shredded chicken was so dry, I didn't even eat it after the first bite. Salsa couldn't even save it. I ordered double plantains on the side....and they were the most flavorless and overcooked plantains I've ever had. The rubbery texture was like they've been cooked more than once, or old from the day before. Even the rice was mooshy from sitting / being overdone. Literally threw it out, it was so bad. Really Disappointed. Wish I checked the food, before I got home with it, bc I would've went back to ask for a fresh batch or refund. Won't come out here again for it.

Yelp
Amazing food. I was just passing though and stopped by. The best empanadas and yuca fries. I will be back sooner than I thought.

Yelp
Every time I have ordered food it has been ready on time and exceeds my expectations with taste! Delicious food! Such a great spot with amazing vibes!

Yelp
Great food and service. My absolute favorite was the Flower Power platter with the black bean burger. A great vegan and healthy option. Please bring it back.

Yelp
Que Ricas Been wanting to go here for the longest time Yum So good for Venezuelan Food in New Jersey. Shaggy Arepa & 5 Different Empanadas Definitely going back too
google avatar

Amit M.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times. Food is pretty good. Really good, and also great spot to check out if you're looking for a different cuisine. I went with the cozy platter. Fried rice is on point. Only suggestion I have to is to order a side of sauce cause the meat is a tad dry without it
google avatar

Carlie A.

Yelp
Excellent food and almost everything is gluten free! Definitely more of a take out spot, but there are a few small tables if you want to eat in. Empanadas and yucca fries are delicious! Have eaten here several times and it has been a good experience every time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
3.5 really. During the pandemic, we've tried really hard to support local restaurants, so once a week, we usually pick a small place to order out from. They were very helpful when I called a few hours before I wanted to do the actual pick up. They have a deal for $30, you can order the plantains, 2 empanadas, 2 arepas and churros. Lots of food for 2 people. As for the food itself, for me, the high point were the empanadas and the plantains. Mmmmmmm. And that side cilantro sauce that came with the empanadas? I could eat a gallon of that. We ordered two different arepas, which I normally enjoy, but this time I felt the different meats (a chicken and beef) tasted pretty dry. Overall, pretty good. Next time I'd still order an arepa, but perhaps add an extra bit of that cilantro sauce.

Yelp
Here's my best tip: Go and experiment with the menu if you're 1st time visiting. It's reasonable priced so that you can try a bit of this or that. I went with 2 meat empanadas and shared a Shaggy arepa (arepa is kinda of like a thick soft taco). Next time I'll order 2 arepas & my own because they were small and really tasty. The Shaggy was great. The sweet plantain was what brought all of the flavor together in one bite. Their chicken has the fresh seasoned taste that I really love. I'd have to say that was my favorite part of my order. The empanadas good as well and at $3 a price---why not get a few. At least that's my plan next time. I believe they have a deal now that is buy 6 for $15. The outer shell is definitely heavy corn taste , inside is stuffed with whichever varieties they have. I really need to go back because the chicken in my one came out in one bite. The location has great front door parking so that during COVID-19 you can order ahead and they will run it out to you. They were pretty busy the day I went for pick up but no issues and hot when I got home. I ordered on the phone when I got there and it was ready in about 15 minutes without me leaving my car. Returnable? Yes...a few times!

Andrea C.

Yelp
Great GLUTEN FREE options! The empanadas are phenomenal, great deal on Tuesdays 6/$15x restaurant is small and quant, not too many seats but we always take to go.

Yelp
First time having Venezuelan food and OMG was it good. This place has me craving for more. I had one of the platters and it was delicious. Highly recommend.

Paige G.

Yelp
Delish food with great gluten free options! The staff is super friendly and you can tell the food is personal to them, with the care they give to making it.
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
We went back and I would maybe update the review to 3.5 but unfortunately yelp only allowed full stars. The caracas platter with shredded beef was pretty good, lots of food. The beef really shined and was super flavorful as were the plantains but the rice and beans were just alright. My boyfriend got two empanadas which seemed to be more doughy than when we got them the first time. I still think the loaded yucca fries are the best item we've had and would return for the fries and maybe try them with the shredded beef next time.

Niki M.

Yelp
Based on all of the awesome reviews, maybe it was just an off day. The vegetarian platter tasted and smelled off, to the point that I could only eat a few bites. I couldn't tell if it had all been made with the meats or just wasn't fresh, as the rice was dry and hard. The starter coming out significantly after one of the two entrees was annoying, but oh well. The special churros were good! Unfortunately, dead flies were on the window sill next to the table so all in all really was a disappointing experience. Maybe the owners could have a menu available in Spanish? The menu was in English, and some patrons were expressing frustration that there was no Spanish option and the cashier didn't speak any Spanish.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall place with amazing food. It's more of a takeout place than a sit in
google avatar

Matthew G.

Yelp
Uhhhhh fantastic? Amazing food and easy in and out. The coffee is delicious - not too bitter. Reeasomable prices too. Easy to pick up or sit and order. A ton of Options on the menu from apps to snacks to bigger meals. Near planet fitness!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Pretty good food for this area. My only real complaint is that the meat to rice ratio is a bit off but definitely will be back. I tried the shredded beef and chorizo but would recommend the chorizo over the 2.

De S.

Yelp
I've ordered twice and I was very happy the first time and very disappointing the second time. I ordered a meal yesterday and when I got home it looked like it was sitting under a heat lamp all day long. The fried plantains look dry and unedible and the steak looked extra crispy and burnt. I was very surprised because the first time I ordered food, everything seemed freshly made which is why I went back a second time.
google avatar

Fran H.

Yelp
I wanted so bad to love this small little neighborhood place . We had a myriad of different things . We tried 4 different arepas two were chicken and two were beef . The beef and chicken arepas that were shredded were good each came with a grilled plantain. We also had the empanadas we ordered the beef and chicken. The empanadas has a sweet corn flavor and the sheep was good. The wait was 35 to 40 minutes. When I arrived the food was not ready after 45 minutes . I patiently waited until the food was done. Unfortunately the arepas were not prepared when I arrived but the empanadas were ready which means they will be cold . Just as expected the food was cold , the other disappointing part was the empanadas didn't have any of the dipping sauces . We wanted the experience to be so much better. The details are sometimes everything or nothing .

Yelp
Visited que Rica's around the time they first opened. Everything I had was really delicious! Lately I have found myself really craving their food. The loaded yuca and philly empanada are wonderful. Next time I go I would love to try one of the platters! Follow them on Instagram if you wish to tempt your taste buds.

Crystal E.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this goldmine when I found out my bagel place was closing early. Soooo good. The empanadas, the arupas... the platters!!!!! $50 well spent on trying a smorgasbord to stuff my face. I loved my bagel place, but this will be my new habit when I cross the bridge into Jersey. Sooo good! Perked my day right up. Delicious, fresh and hot! And the passionfruit juice made me feel I was back on the beach.

Yelp
First time eating at Que Rica's and I will definitely be back!! Everything was absolutely delicious. So much fresh, homemade goodness. Highly recommend.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Ordered takeout for the first time today. I added this to my list because of their gluten free menu (and the fact that it's Latin American cuisine!) My daughter has celiac and she had the pollo empanadas. It comes with a side of dipping sauce (I forgot the name), the taste was light - a different taste with the regular discs I've tasted in empanadas. My husband ordered the "Shaggy" arepa - and that did not disappoint either. For dessert, I ordered the apple pie empanadas and the churros con chocolate. The order was ready in 10 minutes and the place was neat and clean.
google avatar

Eddie G.

Yelp
Fresh, authentic ingredients and super friendly staff. They just opened and I was excited to try it--as I guess a lot of people were because they were pretty busy at lunch time. I got the "Curvy Queen" arepa : Shredded chicken and avocado SALAD (not pulled chicken with avocado slices), plantains and smoked gouda. My overall take-away was that it was pretty dry. I think I was expecting the chicken to have some sort of juices or mole-like sauce or at least some kind of mayo. But I guess the avocado was used as the "mayo" in traditional chicken salad. Also the shredded gouda was not melted and made it a little messy to eat as it kept falling out. For a $10 sandwich, it should have come with a side of something (plantain or yucca chips??) and a beverage as it was really no bigger than a large fast food sandwich. They may want to consider a budget-friendly lunch/combo menu. At these prices, it is a little prohibitive to make this your daily lunch spot. I'm sure they're still learning and I expect to try it again once they've "gotten in their groove". They seem like very friendly, down to earth people who want to make sure their food is perfect and well-loved. Good luck to them!

James C.

Yelp
Takeout is popular here. I have tried most things on the menu and I have never been disappointed. It's sooooo good.
google avatar

Vincent D.

Yelp
Very clean, and DELICIOUS!! It's not much for atmosphere (in a strip mall with fluorescent lighting) but I have to say the food travels well in to-go containers. Honestly- the apps and empanadas were better than the wrap sandwich but it was all good. The loaded yucca fries were AMAZING! As was this special pancake app with cheese. OMG. We will be ordering here again no doubt!
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
I'm always on alert for South American food, and this new Venezuelan restaurant did not disappoint! Great variety from basics (empanadas and arepas) to full meals, including gluten-free and vegan options! Easy for a sit-down meal or a quick grab and go. Family friendly, reasonably priced, and the kids loved the food. Very clean and welcoming too. There's a lot to explore on the menu and I'll definitely be back! Buen provecho!
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
Yesterday was our first time going, and won't be our last. We went to the restaurant and ordered on sight. It was hard to choose since everything sounded delicious! We ordered loaded yuca fries, a Curvy Queen and Sombrero Arepa, and churros. Oh! We also tried the fresh tamarind juice and it was so good! Our order came out quick and hot, and the staff was delightful. We took our food and ate at Cooper River Park close by and had a lovely picnic. Food was GREAT! Highly recommend for everyone.

Sara R.

Yelp
Food was AMAZING! I've never eaten anything like this before, my whole family enjoyed the food! The options are similar to other Spanish cuisines but has such an authentic taste to it. Not overly seasoned or salty, your palette will thank you! I will be adding this to my regular take out nights!
google avatar

Susie R.

Yelp
Wish we tried it sooner. We ordered for the first time 2 weeks ago and have ordered twice again since. We've had most of the empanadas, the churros, and 2 of the arepas. All so good! Even the 3 year old was a fan.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Great food. I ordered pick up for the following items: tostones, yucca fries, jawn empanada, harvest empanada, Irish banger empanada, Dario arepa, cozy milanesa platter, vegan crabcake patacon, and Irish churros. They were all delicious. The shell on the empanadas was so crunchy but tender at the same time. The tostones and yucca fries were not greasy. Everything was good. I am definitely coming back again.
google avatar

Michele O.

Yelp
Food is absolutely delicious- we had the Curvy, the Shaggy and the Rica -all were tasty but the Shaggy ruled. Food taste fresh and you feel healthy eating it - also, the prices are great!! So happy that we came here -new favorite spot! ...and they have a Jawn!!

Myfirstdoll M.

Yelp
love the food... unique and delicious... and girl behind the counter is exceptional nice! good job!

Yelp
YOU NEED TO EAT HERE! I am a gluten free vegetarian, my husband a carnivore, and we both loved our food. Full of flavor and reasonably priced. Nom nom.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
I'm so disappointed I just discovered Que Rica's - the food was fantastic! Was looking to get takeout and found Que Rica's in an article online and decided to try an arepa, an empanada, and the tostones. It was all delicious and I will definitely make another visit soon.

Lo M.

Yelp
Easy 5 stars! I've been twice, I've tried the carnitas and pollo empanadas and the Westmont, Cartel and Curvy Queen arepas - AH - MAZING. Nice staff, pretty/clean area to sit in and dine. Love their plants inside. Consistent, fresh, empanadas cooked to perfection!
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing! I'm so happy to have Venezuelan food in my home town! I didn't take pictures before eating, but my family shared 3 arepas and a beef platter - everything was delicious. The Curvy Queen Arepa was our favorite!! We will be back for more take out next week
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Delicious food and the people were very nice! I hope it stays because our area needs good Venezuelan
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Que Rica's catered my wife's 40th birthday party with an Arepa Lab package. It was delicious! All the guests praised the food and enjoyed building their own arepas. The empanadas were especially good and were eaten the quickest. I appreciated how everything was neatly packed and labeled and how kind and helpful Sahar and her staff were.

Jenny D.

Yelp
This place has the best food I've had in a long time! I got the shaggy arepa for dinner and a few empanadas for lunch the next day. The food was ready super quick. The meat was very tender and juicy and the sauces were delicious. The sweet fried plantain mixed with the fried cheese on the arepa was the perfect sweet and salty combo. I will definitely be back here often!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Very good arepa. Got the curvy queen liked it a lot. Especially the bun. Very filling but not greasy. Friendly staff.

Dayana C.

Yelp
Husband and I decided to try this place. Finally a Venezuelan spot around us. Nice place, clean and very spacious, went around lunch time, only a 5 minute wait for our order. I ordered a Curvy Queen Arepa and husband ordered Rica Arepa. Actual arepa dough was nice and soft but the filling inside was ok. I feel like the meat flavor was not there. Probably a pinch more of salt, just a pinch. My husband wasn't wow with his arepa neither. Now let's talk about the price and reason I gave it a 3. We ordered 2 arepas, and 2 sodas, 12oz glass sodas, Coca-Cola and Jarito. We paid $25!!!! Now I get the location but I don't want to pay for location only. The arepa were big enough to fill you up but not to spend that much. I know Venezuelan food, my uncles and grandfather all lived in Venezuela. I can make you a mean Arepa And also I know how much it can cost you to make it. I love to try out my Latin American cuisine whenever there's a new spot around but the price doesn't make me want to come back to this place. Keep in mind Location is nice, place is pretty and employees are nice and the actual arepa dough was nice and soft.
