Quebrada de Humahuaca is a narrow mountain valley that is known for its dramatic and sometimes colorful rock formations and hills, along with various indigenous villages and isolated homes. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Gayle and I were here last month and visited the villages of Purmamarca, Tilcara, Uquia, and Humahuaca. Our guide also led us to the Salinas Grande salt flats (on the other side), the Cerro de Los Siete(7) Colores at Purmamarca and the Cerro de Los Catorce (14) up the hill from Humahuaca. We reached altitudes of up to 4500 meters and observed sheppards and their flocks and a window into local indigenous life. It was quite and experience, and for me a major highlight of our trip to Argentina.
