Superlative Independent, local book shop. It is so inviting here... Well lit and equally well curated. The recommendations are unique and thoughtful and run through each section, so that whatever your taste, there's something to try. The children's section is large - well balanced between picture books and readers. There's an excellent variety of interesting graphic novels. The summer offering of Reader's Bingo is a good example of the store's ingeniousness, offering fresh and inviting ways to expand one's reading diet, encouraging many genres and formats. The employees extend this aesthetic with engaging conversation and kind assistance. One senses their love of reading and interests and I left inspired to read more. A lovely visit.

I love this place! The staff is really friendly (I am a regular.. they even know what kind of books I like now haha; mostly spooky stuff and horror) and it's so cute inside! They are always rotating themes around the store, carry stationary and other things, plus they have a great kid's section. Such a cute neighborhood too to explore if you're in the area! Love! <3

Google
One of our favorite bookstores in the city! All of the employees are so helpful with recommendations, and will happily order any books you want that aren't currently in stock. They also have a great reward program for those who buy a lot of books. Always happy to support this small business instead of the unethical billion dollar corporations.

Google
Beautiful secret bookstore at the heart of Queen Anne! Next to several cute coffee shops and bakeries, it’s a beautiful place to go explore some interesting books! This place offers pretty rich selection of books from novels to classics, from humor books to psychology. If you are a tourist in Seattle, this is a great cute spot to stop by.

Did the Seattle Indie Bookstore crawl and visited QABC. The friendliest staff/owner ever! So glad to have visited, Thank you, Queen Anne Book Company!

Google
Very cute shop with a very lovely thoughtful selection. I was able to easily find new (to me) books for my 11 yr old, 6 yr old, and 3 yr old.

Google
I've been going here a while and it's just such a great bookstore; the staff is always super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. It's also just a great store in general. In addition to books, they have a lot of fun novelty items as well, I really love the pencils they have. Today I went in and they were giving away free arc books wrapped in paper for a blind date with a book, which is super awesome. I'm super happy with my book. It was such a nice surprise to get a free mystery book with my purchase.

Google
A cute neighborhood bookstore, nestled at the end of of the Queen Anne coffee co. A nice selection of books of all genres, magazines, postcards, greeting cards, and some gifts.

Yelp
This is a great bookstore! I was visiting a friend who lives nearby and she recommended this place. Its small but they have a great selection! The staff was super friendly and knowledgable about everything it seems! Best part is its next the the Queen Anne coffee shop and thsoe 2 go together so well! I'd say this is a place you should take your time to find if you are in the Seatlle area!

Bill L.

Yelp
Phenomenal selection of books and book loving staff. There are book groups, staff posted reviews of books recommended and really helpful bibliophiles (if that's a word).
google avatar

Britnee C.

Yelp
More modern selection of books, and a little less to choose from. Prices are pretty much MSRP. Lots of gifts and trinkets to shop through as well. The staff is super friendly.

Lindsey S.

Yelp
There's a reason this bookstore is considered one of the best in the PNW! Anytime I hit a reading slump I can come here and pick 2-3 solid reads (mainly from the staff recommendations, I gravitate towards Torrin's picks!) All staff is helpful, kind & it's a great little atmosphere for a read on any type of day

Yelp
Support local book stores!!! They were very good with social distancing policies. All guests have to wait by the door for an employee to check the head count before letting you in. There was hand sanitizer at the entrance which was convenient. This is a good place to get a gift. I was tempted to purchase candles that were inspired by authors. There are a lot of cool children's books here and I would definitely return! I bought a cook book here and signed up for the loyalty program which is free! The cashier was very nice and patient.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood bookstore. Here's a tip to support local: Use your Amazon wishlist to remember what you want, then order it from QA Book Co. Support local, ya'll!
google avatar

Yelp
Quality neighborhood bookstore with great recommendations and sweet service. Nice magazine selection and especially good mystery section. The organization of the bookstore is a bit quirky (e.g. Ferrante is in the Fiction section, not the Translations section; a piddly little Classics section would probably be better integrated into the Fiction section), but whatever. I support small businesses and especially small bookstores.

Yelp
What a delightful little bookstore! Warm, bright, and organized. The friendly employee Kaye gave me a nice tour of the shop and I enjoyed the suggestion cards of books that employees recommend. I'll be back!

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite bookstore in Seattle! They have a wide variety of my go-to genres -- health and wellness, fantasy, as well as new release/best sellers. One of my treasured weekend activities is to get a warm beverage from El Diablo and then go browse the bookstore. I've found so many winners there throughout the years, especially with their staff recommendations. They've never steered me wrong. ;) They are a small boutique shop though, so they don't carry a huge selection in comparison to the big box stores. Any time I've gone in looking for a title they are more than happy to check their system. If they don't have it in stock they can special order at no additional charge. This comes in so handy for all the health and wellness books I order for my practice (I'm a massage therapist and nutritionist). I've also ordered medical textbooks and orthopedic texts as well with no problem. So seriously, what are you waiting for? This is the BEST bookstore in Seattle. Get your butt over there. :)

Yelp
This is such a beautiful book store. I am not one to frequent bookstores. If I want to buy a book I get it on Amazon. But until I walked in to explore this shop for the first time I had no idea how much I had missed actually touching the books and browsing through all the possible stories that I could read. The store is light and surprisingly large with many different sections. There's even a small private patio in back of the store where you can sip a coffee and read in peace. I highly recommend this shop, it's also a great place for gifts.

Yelp
This bookstore is truly a hidden gem in a world being taken over by online shopping. Come here if you're looking for an immersive experience, and or just want to benefit from a selection that's already been meticulously curated. The store was inviting, and the cashier made us feel welcome without being overbearing as we browsed. I can just imagine myself losing an entire afternoon in here. Definitely drop by if you're in the area, or go out of your way to check it out if you're on a mission for the perfect book.

Yelp
Eclectic collection of books. Grab a coffee from the near by coffee shop, a book from here and enjoy the day.

Yelp
After taking donations from customers, Queen Anne Book Co sent a gift card to Seattle Children's hospital so we could get books to our patients. How generous and lovely is that? I had to privilege to work with Ellen and Wendee on a large order of inclusive books. They arrived quickly and when I went to pick them up we still had a balance of the card I wanted to spend. I was impressed with how many inclusive Childrens books were featured and already in stock. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The store is wonderful, I highly recommend getting your books here! Thank you Queen Anne Book Co for supporting the patients at Children's and being a wonderful store in the community.

Yelp
Love having an actual bookstore where you can browse and talk to people. I'm buying all my books there, no more from that online one.

Yelp
I really like that I have a great bookstore like Queen Anne Books in my neighborhood! The people that work here are passionate about books and will bend over backwards to see that you get what you want. How cool is that? To the buyer that buys books for the store - you are totally awesome! I find it refreshing that every time I come in, I always find something interesting on the shelves and end up spending a lot of time browsing. On my last visit I found a book that I will buy for my niece - Star Wars Pop-Up Book. Hell, I think I'll have to pick one up for myself! Come on, who doesn't like pop-up books? I also liked the fact that they had complimentary gift wrapping during the holidays - absolute time saver! Support your local independent bookstore! _____________________________ I I I FICTION I I_____________________________I _____________________________________ I I I STAR WARS POP-UP BOOK I I____________________________________I ____________________________________________________ I I I IDIOT'S GUIDE TO THE KAMA SUTRA: ILLUSTRATED I I____________________________________________________I

Yelp
What a great local bookstore. QA is lucky to have it. I like their frequent buyer plan, and the workers are so helpful (except for grumpy Patti who owns the place - why so grumpy?) - and full of ideas. I don't do their book group, but a lot of my friends do - I'm too cheap so we do the QALibrary book group. But QA Books does wonderful things for big book events like whenever Harry Potter books came out. The book is alive and well on Queen Anne!
google avatar

Jen M.

Yelp
A really nice and friendly independent bookstore. I was staying at a friends house a few blocks away and spent a delightful afternoon pursuing their books and other little gifts.
google avatar

Alexandra L.

Yelp
Great little bookstore. They have a frequent buyers program, and even wrap presents for free.
google avatar

Yelp
Loooove this book shop. It's privately owned. They didn't have the book that my boyfriend wanted so they helped us out & ordered it for us. It was here in less than two days. They called when it arrived and it was super simple.

Yelp
This is such a great neighborhood bookstore in Queen Anne. It's not the largest place, but has such a great selection of books and small gifts. I especially love that the booksellers are knowledgeable about many books, and it's obvious that they love reading as anyone who steps foot into this store! Just ask them for recommendations based on your favorite books and authors and they will be sure to strike up a conversation with you on the different stories they recommend you read. This is exactly what I love about independent bookstores! It's also located by a quaint cafe and coffeehouse, so what better way to spend your day than browse books and read them with a cup of coffee?
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Because I think it's a good idea to do my shopping near home, and because this is an independent store, I frequently come here and attempt to buy books. I did once succeed in picking up a Lonely Planet travel guide my mom needed, and I'm pretty sure I would have been able to get the new Lemony Snicket here, but unless you're looking for an item like this, for which there is high popular demand, Queen Anne Books is highly unlikely to have it. They didn't even have the Chicago Manual of Style, which I thought would be pretty universally desired, if only for sending along with your kid to college for them to prop their dorm room door open with or whatever. The store does have a pleasant selection of cards, but so do several other gift shops of light, airy atmosphere along Queen Anne Avenue. This one is supposed to be a bookstore.

Yelp
This place is tiny! But they make every inch count! I stopped in here before christmas to pick up some books for my family and friends and walked out smiling. The lady was UBER helpfull and crazy knowledgeable about books ranging from fiction, childrens chapter books and specialty cook books. I was perfectly happy wandering the stacks and found myself coming back to the cooking section more than once, they had some great titles that are a little hard to find "Tartine" is a great book but not always findeable in some of the more chain-ish book stores. I'll put a sub note to this review and say that I hate buying books online. I love to flip through a book and figure out if it really is what I want or if it's a book with a bunch of fancy photos and not much else. I was impressed with their selection of kid's books especially, my sister asked me to pick up some advanced books for her 5 year old for christmas and I found everything from starter graphic novels to some sweet stories from my childhood I will never forget and even a few that were just very unique in their own right. Will definitely come here the next time I need to pick up something trully special for anyone on my list.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bookstore that I'm so lucky to happen upon. Needed to pick up a book for my book club and noticed this store on my walk. I only had "Apple Pay" with me and when asked if they accepted that form of payment, the nice lady at the counter said they didn't but she could sign me up for a neighborhood loyalty card so that I could leave with the book and call her later with payment information when I got home. Wow!! Who does that anymore but "Queen Anne Book Company!" Thank you Teagan, you've earned a loyal customer for life. Great customer service, greeted me with a smile and found my book.. "The Hate U Give!" Can't wait to read it...

Yelp
Treats for my puppy (puppies welcome!). Board books for my baby (babies welcome!). But what's the deal with the security cameras only in the kids section? Have they had a rash of klepto kids? Are rogue elements of anarchist librarian terrorist movements desecrating "Hop On Pop"? Did those naughty teenagers get caught "heavy petting" back there again? I don't think I've been in a bookstore since the advent of Amazon, mostly because the oppressive size of the mega chains makes me itchy and nauseous, the harsh light baring down on me until I'm forced into hiding under a makeshift fort of bargain bin cookbooks. But I find myself making excuses to go into Queen Anne Books. It's pleasant. It's quiet. The employees have more qualified opinions than your mega chain employee has piercings. I buy books I've never heard of simply because the employee suggestion cards are so compelling. Diablo & QA Books; Saturday morning bliss.
google avatar

Becky W.

Yelp
You have 10 minutes to make an impression, or reverse one, when I walk in the door: 1) no music playing 2) no one greeted me, the entire time I was there 3) chatty baby-boomers and QA moms at the counter talking about War & Peace and Anna Karenina (book club must be going classics) 4) not one of my favorite authors or any of my favorite publishing houses were on the shelf 5) the F's and G's in Fiction were not alphabetized correctly at all. Searching for Galloway, and not finding it if it was there amid the ABC-mix-up, sent me right out the door. I'll stick to Fremont where you don't have to be in their club to deserve a modest acknowledgement of existence.

Yelp
This is where I go when I know I want to find a new book to lose myself in but have no idea what I want. It's relatively small so it is easy to browse. The sections are well labeled, staff is highly accessible and very helpful, and their are great little notes tagged all along the store with little mini-reviews on them. I love this place and if it weren't so pricey I would have gladly given it 5 stars. (no used books makes me a sad girly)
google avatar

Alaina S.

Yelp
I don't know. I've been in here a couple of times, and I always fel like I'm in the restricted section of a library. I find the layout awkward and uncomfortable and I wish they'd get rid of the crappy cards and card-carrying spindler's. It's small and independent and that's great. Support the little guy's, but the last time I was in here, the older woman behind the counter was just so damn rude I put my book's back and walked out the door. I'm not a transient and I'm not going to steal. My phone is off and my hand's are sugar-free. I have money to spend and I enjoy spending it in my neighborhood. So why-oh-why do older women and women of my age, who work in the service industry, feel the need to belittle their customer's? Won't ever be back. Which is just fine, because Elliott Bay Book's is just the best place ever.
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Queen Anne books is a fantastic book store, with a very knowledgeable staff. They can order ANY book you wish, however are very selective on which books to stock. So no...they are not Barnes and Noble, or Amazon.com...so they may not have the Chicago guide to style or something obscure like that...but they COULD get it if you asked. This book store is for readers who like a good selection, and don't mind taking advice from READERS who work there.
google avatar

Yen D.

Yelp
What a lovely independent bookstore! There are tons of staff recommendation cards and the two people I saw were passionate about books and quite friendly. They host monthly book discussions which just adds to the community feel. I hope they do well! Also conveniently located by a nice coffeeshop.
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
Wonderful that there are still independent bookstores. Just moved here from NYC and I stumbled upon this store and was totally delighted. Love that there are still neighborhood places alive! The women there were so wonderful to me and when they heard I was new to the area, were giving me all sorts of suggestions. They told me that I would have such a good time at their free book club and that I could meet people. What a breath of fresh area this place is!
google avatar

Rohit K.

Yelp
A nice book store to go into on a rainy day or any other day. It's well located in upper queen anne, so that you can grab a book and go to any of the nearby coffee shops (I personally recommend Ladro or Storyville. Diablo which is right outside the book store wasn't that good when I last went. So take the 6 block walk to Boston St and go to the better coffee shops instead). Major digression. Sorry. Good book shop. Friendly staff. Nice location. Recommended.
google avatar

Megan H.

Yelp
I haven't been here since they re-opened under new ownership in March, but it feels much the same as before. The fantastic and knowledgable staff are still around. The selection is great, and I appreciate their extensive book review notes. They have re-arranged the store a bit, and my impression is that their fiction section is much larger. I usually buy books on Amazon, but I do love to support local bookstores, and occasionally I find a great deal here that Amazon can't beat. Plus, the personal service is unmatched. The staff are clearly well-read, and there's just something to an in-person recommendation, rather than an Amazon review. The staff really make the store, and I cannot wait to go back.

Zoe B.

Yelp
Queen Anne Book Company donated 5 books to our non-profit, the Freedom Education Project Puget Sound! Thank you QABC for supporting higher education in prison!
google avatar

Susie I.

Yelp
This store is very welcoming. Their book selection is just fair (no graphic novels), but I can easily find a book to give as a gift. I like the physical set up of the store, it is easy to browse and the sections are well labelled. I really like the Bookclub idea (saves $!) and, as some other reviewers mentioned, the staff picks are excellent. They also carry Xeko cards (Xeko = Seattle based educational card game about plants and animals in conservation hotspots). I first went because of the Xeko, but I returned because of the store. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they don't carry used books.
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
This is an incredible local book store. The staff is knowledgable and incredibly friendly, willing to really spend some time and help you either find something or look up reviews if you're not certain before buying a book. I've been coming to these folks for several years now, and I plan to keep on. I even order most of my tech books through them (they don't have a technology section per se) - which they get in quickly. I've had a few books that were messed up from the publisher, and they've always made it right - getting a new one for me or just taking it back.
google avatar

Ellie G.

Yelp
Great selection. They make it easy to browse, and their best sellers and staff picks sections are wonderful. I always buy something exciting when I go in.

Kitty G.

Yelp
When I moved to Queen Anne 1.5 years ago, I was delighted to be so close to this wonderful book store! Anytime I want a new book, I always make my orders through them, and if they can't locate a book I want, due to it being out of print, they are always happy to help me find a source. Recently I made an order, and there was a small snafu, but their professionalism over the matter was impressive. I love this store, and the staff, and will be very sad if they were to leave the neighborhood.
google avatar

Kalani F.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for a book store. This one is small and compact, and next to El Diablo coffee. Sneaky. Staff is helpful. I have problems buying books; I read too many and it would be an expensive hobby for not the library. But this little nook is important for us out there who sometimes want a little more than a tablet to hang onto when we read. It gives a sense of relaxation and tangible ideas for us to review before we let the words turn over in our hands.
google avatar

Krissi P.

Yelp
Great bookstore, and independent (always a plus for me). The staff is very friendly and helpful. They've helped me through those lovely "I saw this book at another store about Russia that I wanted to get, but I don't remember what it was called or who wrote it, but the cover was gold" situations, and actually found the book for me!!
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
Queen Anne Book Company is small, but makes up for it with a friendly and knowledgable staff that's always happy to talk books and make recommendations. They're a great asset to the Queen Anne neighborhood. They maintain good selections for kids, sci-fi and literary fiction. And what's not in stock, they can usually order within a day or two.
google avatar

S V.

Yelp
They are so friendly here and helpful it makes it easy to go back time and time again. If they don't have a book your looking for they will order it no problem. I know you may not instant gratification that way but it is worth the wait to support a really great local shop.

Jessica K.

Yelp
There's a ton of books and a healthy amount of variety in a great location. It's pretty spacious and has always been quiet every time I've been in, but every one of those times I've been ignored by the people working there, even though I was one of 2-3 people there. They didn't acknowledge me when I walked in and avoided eye contact when I got near them and smiled. I never expect any grand gestures of customer service, but it felt like I was actively being avoided every time, which I think is both rude and a little odd.
google avatar

Yeah R.

Yelp
These ladies are swell and you don't see such unabashed enthusiasm for novels outside of the public library system. They have a small operation and so can't keep a huge catalog, but will special order anything and make sure you get the best price. They also have a nice incentive where they give you a credit for a book for every so many you buy, which is quite nice. Another bonus is that they are attached to Cafe Diablo's outside deck and so you can go get a book and joe and sit out under the trellis on nicer days and relax for a bit.

Patti B.

Yelp
I am a great supporter of independent bookstores everywhere but I am so delighted to actually have the Queen Anne Book Company within walking distance of my business and home. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about various authors and genres. The selection is always up to date and if there is a title that isn't available in the store I can order it and usually get it in a very short amount of time. I am so lucky to have them near.
google avatar

Marie L.

Yelp
Great independent book store. Visited multiple times. Had a wonderful selection of cookbooks. Knowledgeable staff was great with children's books. Would buy all my books here if we were locals.
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
This bookstore is not afraid of being local, friendly, warm, and inviting. They want you in and they want you to stay awhile. It's well stocked and well staffed. They are experts at recommending books and remembering what I have liked in the past. The women behind the counter often have their own expertise. One knows childrens, another bios, another cooking, etc.. Personal service better than N'stroms could ever deliver.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Queen Anne Books is great! My favorite experience here was waiting for the doors to open so that I could by the last Harry Potter book. They had a great set up for all the kids (which I also participated in). The staff are always very nice and very helpful and seem interested in helping you find or get what you want. But because it is a fairly small book store I have had some trouble locating a few titles here. They don't have much of a science fiction section but the always offer to order the book for you. Yay for books!
google avatar

Donna D.

Yelp
I like this bookstore--a good selection of fiction and non-fiction. They always have great suggestions for me and my daughter. They keep your puchases on file so you can get your discount without having to find the little card so many stores give you and I always lose. MUCh better than going to the big chains....

Yelp
Queen Anne Books and El Diablo are a great place to explore on the weekend.... lovely neighborhood hangout.
