The 8 Best Ethiopian Restaurants In Chicago

"With an exterior covered in signage for all of the other businesses in Uptown’s Sun Plaza Strip Mall, Queen Sheba’s storefront isn’t easy to spot. But if you look closely you’ll find this cozy Ethiopian cafe just below the signs for a bank and nail salon. The space is tiny, with only four tables, but when you can snag a seat it’s great for a low-key breakfast of ful with scrambled eggs and French bread. And coming in for a cup of coffee along with spiced mashed chickpeas complemented by peppers, onions, and tomatoes is always a good life choice. " - john ringor

19 Black-Owned Coffee Shops In Chicago

"Queen Sheba is easy to miss since the cafe’s exterior is covered by signage for the other businesses in Uptown’s Sun Plaza Strip Mall. But hiding under the signs for the bank and nail salon is this cozy Ethiopian cafe. There are only a handful of small tables, but you can stop by for some coffee and snacks like injera with eggs, onions, and jalapeños." - john ringor

Amazing little Coffee shop owned by the Queen Sheba herself, very friendly and kind owner. We got to the shop at 8 am when the shop just opened so the owner had to prepare the coffee machine and set up the shop, had an awesome conversation about the name of the shop and its history while she was getting things ready. The owner recommended us the cappuccino. It was very delicious and strong 💪….definitely coming back to try the baked goods. The Coffee shop is small, cozy, and clean. Very unique essence smell!

An extremely cute and quaint breakfast and brunch spot offering authentic Ethiopian food. The food and drinks are amazing and the owner is extremely courteous and friendly! We complimented her on some of her spices used in the food and she brought us a small baggy of the spices which she blended herself. Highly recommend stopping by this amazing spot

Love this place! I got the foul and Ethiopian coffee for breakfast. The foul was filling and flavorful and came with a basket of fluffy bread. The Ethiopian coffee was STRONG. The owner showed me how to pour it the correct way. Everything tastes home-cooked and delicious.

Friendly owner, affordable food, local flavor. Came in at 2.30pm - a quiet afternoon. Had the Foul (pronounced "fool") and it was a delicious mix of chickpeas and several ingredients. The bread was warm and slightly crispy on the outside, perfect for the windy fall afternoon. Loved it!

Wonderful place right on Broadway that I wish I'd found sooner. The owner, Brook, is very nice and friendly and she makes a killer breakfast. The breakfast pictured (with the bread included) was very generously portioned (it is bigger than it seems here, I could barely finish it) and was only $8. I got tea this time around so I can't speak to the coffee quite yet, but this place is lovely and deserves your business.

If it was possible to give 6 starts out of 5 for service and hospitality then I would give them 6 stars. They are hands down the best service we have ever recieved. The host Brook was the sweetest. She made sure that we are having a good time. I would come again just to meet her!
