The 15 Best Nicaraguan Restaurants In Miami

"There’s something to be said about a place that specializes in one thing, And Quesillos Guiliguiste is a perfect example. This place specializes in its namesake, the quesillo. This popular Nicaraguan snack consists of a braid of homemade, squeaky uncultured cheese similar to fresh mozzarella, but a little firmer. It gets wrapped in a thick Nicaraguan-style corn tortilla, loaded up with a tangy onion salsa, placed into a small plastic sandwich bag, and then drowned in a torrent of housemade cultured cream. If you wait a few minutes before digging in, the cream has a chance to meld with the salsa and soften the tortilla, making it easy to eat with a fork. Some may advise you to bite off a corner of the bag and suck out the tangy crema that forms at the bottom. If you’re unsure of how to gracefully eat a quesillo, just ask the owner, who’s more than happy to explain the dish and how to eat it without half of it ending up on your shirt." - carlos c olaechea, virginia otazo

Quesillos Guiliguiste - Review - Sweetwater - Miami - The Infatuation

"There’s something to be said about a place that specializes in one thing, and Quesillos Guiliguiste is a perfect example of this. They specialize in their namesake, the quesillo. Eating this can get a little messy, and many Nicaraguans have their own unique way of enjoying this snack while avoiding spills. If you’re unsure of how to gracefully eat a quesillo—we have some tips below. Or, you could just ask the owner, who’s more than happy to explain the dish and how to eat it without half of it ending up on your shirt. Food Rundown photo credit: Tasty Planet Quesillo Let us explain how the wonderfully messy quesillo works, in case it’s your first time: A warm, thick Nicaraguan-style corn tortilla gets a spoonful of tart onion relish. Then the quesillo slinger (who you get to watch in action) lays down a braid of fresh cheese that tastes like a denser mozzarella. It gets a sprinkle of salt before getting rolled up and put into a baggy. The final touch is a ladle of cultured cream that completely drenches everything. Finally, the baggy gets tied up and you’re sent on your merry way. Give it a few minutes before enjoying it so that the crema has time to soften the tortilla. Now, tear open a hole in the corner of the baggy with your teeth and suck out all the cream—there are few things that feel as sinfully satisfying in Miami (at least involving food). photo credit: Tasty Planet Tiste This is the traditional beverage accompaniment to a quesillo, and (if it’s your first time trying this) it’s worth a taste (just order a small cup). This drink is made with cacao but uses water instead of milk along with fine cornmeal as a thickener. It has a deep cocoa taste with a bit of toasty corn flavor. It can be an acquired taste, but we it's a refreshing contrast to the creamy quesillo and not as filling as the milk-based cacao drink (which is also a great option)." - Carlos C Olaechea

1st time there but it was pretty good. Good customer service

Google
It's a small and humble establishment, but the food and the people are great! The quesillos are as good as can be! Taste just like I remember them back in Nicaragua!

Google
I've been going to Quesillos Guiliguiste since 2020. They have delicious Nicaraguan food with great service. If you haven't tried Nicaraguan food then I suggest you stop by and try Quesillos Guiliguiste.

Google
Wow que rico DELICIOUS!!!! .....quesillo nicaraguense. Made from a thick corn tortilla wrapped around soft cheese (with the same name and of consistency similar to mozzarella cheese), pickled onions, and a sauce of sour cream or liquid cheese. If ur a cheese lover then this is a must try.

Google
Authentic Nicaraguan Food. Must try their quesillos with cebolla 🔥

Google
Wow! I don’t know how this place has so many good reviews, I guess I was the unlucky one, we drove a long distance to go and try the “best quesillos” there, but instead we were very disappointed. Beside the taste, the quesillos had no flavor, they were super dry, barely had sour cream and only a few chunks of onions, the customer service was horrible, the worst attitude from the owner and his employees. If you don’t like dealing with people, just close your business and retire already! Very, very dissatisfied with this place.

Google
Back when I was younger, the quesillos used to be $2.50, now the price is at $6.50. A tortilla with cheese and minimal amount of crema (because they don’t add enough) is not worth the price and awful atmosphere that place has. They’re stealing from you. Go to El Madroño instead.

Yelp
If you wanna try the best Quesillo of your life, this is the perfect spot. A true Nicaragüense hole in the wall. I will never go anywhere else for a Quesillo. I literally drive from Homestead to Flagler just to get this tortilla, string cheese and Central American cream in a bag. It may seem like just 3 simple ingredients but wow they're just amazing. I usually slurp the rest of the Central American cream from the baggie it comes in once I'm done with my Quesillo. (Please refer to the pic attached) You can also add onions or hot sauce to it. I brought two of my close friends to show them what the hype was about. We're all Nicaraguan and love some food that really embrace out culture. The service is always quick and the owner is nice. There's lots of parking, it's a spot where you really just grab your food and go. There's no tables to sit and eat. You either sit on the benches or lean up against the counter. It's very worth it regardless. PS: they are closed on Monday's

Yelp
Have been to Don Mario's place for around 30 years, always the best tasting nica food in Sweetwater, those trenzas quesillos are to die for. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I have been coming here ever since I was a little girl and I lived down the street. Don Mario y Dona Maria are basically family and will treat you like family the moment you walk in. It's truly a hidden gem! The food is amazing every single time and these are the best quesillos in all of Miami! The place hasn't changed at all but it reminds me of the fritangas back in Nicaragua!

Yelp
Vivo en California pero siempre que vamos con la familia a Miami lo primero que hacemos después de bajar del avión vamos directo a comer Quesillos son los mejores en todo Miami y la comida muy sabrosa y el Baho está riquísimo lo recomiendo mucho.

Yelp
This is one of the hidden gems in Miami-Dade County, Don Mario treats you like family as soon as you walk in, very welcoming environment, and the food is absolutely amazing, the best thing there with such a simple concept is the Quesillo, it was absolutely delicious, I can't wait to come here again and keep supporting this business.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years! But like everyone else has said in the comments, it's hard to find a place in Miami with this typical dish. Cheese lovers this is for you. Tortilla, quesillo de trenza, cebollitas, and drowned in crema Nica. Soooooooo good! Prices have gone up a bit since the menu pic was posted by someone else in the comments but it's like everything. They no longer close at 9 PM but at 8 PM. By 7:30 PM there's just a few fritanga options left. Ordered some nacatamales too. They have with or without Chile. Excited to try them!

Yelp
Super home made, good for the soul food! These Quesillos are Nicaraguan certified! Super authentic and yummie! My husband is 100% Nicaraguan and he approves. Every time we are in Miami we always make sure we stop here. But don't get me wrong, there is nothing fancy about this spot. It is super casual mom and pop type. They feed you Quesillos straight up out of a bag! the Cacao is amazing also! and the gallo pinto too! It has been our tradition to come here. We love it. The only negative thing I have to say is I wish it was in my town!!!!
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Great place. Small place but amazing taste. The best quesillos in town!!!! Great selection! Great service!

Yelp
I've been going to Quesillos Guiliguiste since the early 90s and thankfully, it hasn't changed a bit! The look of the place isn't anything to write home about, but who needs that when their Quesillos are off the chain! Don Mario, the owner is always there, sitting quietly and sweetly behind the register, always happy to see you.

Yelp
the person that is making the quesillo is with dirty hands also they never cover his hands while is touching the food. costumer service is the worst.

Yelp
We found this place last year. They serve Nicaraguan food specializing in the quesillos. These resemble braided mozzarella cheese ( more like the mexican type- the texture) and served with crema (cream) and onions. When freshly made, these treats are delicious. We tried the typical drinks like pinolillo, Jamaica and took some nacatamales to bring back to NY. Overall, it's a good place for home style cooking, no frills and only a counter with no chairs. Best to order as take out or eat standing if in a hurry. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Good Quesillos (hot tortillas with cheese, sour cream and onions). I have been coming here for years and the food is always good. There is no tables so all is basically to go but we'll worth it.

Yelp
Its hard to find a place that makes authentic Nicaraguan quesillos - you know, the ones you eat out of a bag? Well, this place does...and it does a pretty good job at it. Quesillos Guiliguistes is a small, hole in the wall kind of spot. There are no tables, so you must pick up and take it somewhere else to eat. Not only do they offer quesillos, but they have a fritanga style menu with all different types of Nicaraguan meals. However, If you are ever at quesillos guiliguistes, make sure to order a quesillo (which is basically a tortilla, with quesillo cheese, nicaraguan cream, onions and vinager) and no, you are not supposed to get it out of the bag and put it in a plate...you're supposed to eat it out of the bag - true Nicaraguan style.

Yelp
Used to go here as a kid, this place is just as DELICIOUS as the first day they opened. Their cacao is mana of the gods, if you like cacao, try theirs and you'll want to buy it in gallons like I do!!

Yelp
This place has the best traditional Nicaraguan quesillos I have ever tasted in Miami, sweet pico, and subpar chicha. But let me warn you, the insides of this place are not like a five-star restaurant. However, it will make you feel like you are back at any traditional food place in Nicaragua. First off, I was a bit surprised because when I went to eat a quesillo previously, I ate it on a plate, so when they handed me the quesillo in the bag, I thought they confused my order for to-go. But my friend assured me that this is how they traditionally serve it. The cheese in this quesillo was chewy and delicious. The cream was sweet. It just had the perfect portion of ingredients. When you finish your quesillo, there is a lot of fluid left over, so I recommend to just drink it from the bag. It does taste good after all! With the pico, it was the first I ever had, and I enjoyed the crunch and sweetness of my Nicaraguan dessert. I would order it again. The chicha was also good, but I need to point out that I have had better at different fritangas and at Yambo. It was sweet, but it was missing all the maize extract pieces I enjoy in this drink. I think they just did not mix it better than they should have. It was also a bit sweeter than all the other ones I have ever had-- somewhat overpowering. Overall, my meal cost me $9. It made me reminisce about my vacation last December to Nicaragua. I will definitely come here again to grab another quesillo or pico if I ever feel the urge. They were just delicious and tasted as authentic as possible. HUGE PLUSSES: The owner speaks English, so you don't have to struggle if you don't know Spanish. RANDOMNESS: They have a vending machine that sells miniature cans of nuts. Very interesting.

Yelp
Best authentic Nica food in Miami by far. Hard to find somewhere in Miami with great quesillos like these. They're really friendly there as well.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
If you are craving a hot tortilla with gooey melted cheese, sour cream, and some picked onion (optional), then Quesillos Guiliguiste is the place to be. Delicioso! The man knows me by name, but not by my real name. He calls me, "Chica!", and I call him "Don Mario!" But his name should be "Don Quesillo"-- he is going to make you an offer you can't refuse because he is the godfather of Nicaraguan quesillos. One bite of his quesillo will leave you breathless and wanting more. They are also okay for a Nicaraguan fritanga. And the adventure continues...

Catherine M.

Yelp
Best fresh quesillos I've tasted everything to the crema is delicious ! They're delicious !the food is also very homemade tasting which is good.
