"Quiero Arepas already has a home inside Avanti Food & Beverage along with a food truck. Now the Venezuelan sandwich shop opens a new location at 1859 S. Pearl St. from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 20. It takes over the former Makan space. The menu includes a roster of arepas with bread made from ground maize dough, sides, salads, and desserts along with a full liquor license. The reina arepa features zesty chicken salad with avocado mayonnaise, named in honor of Susana Duijm, Miss World in 1955 and a popular Venezuelan celebrity. The arepa pabellón features shredded beef, sweet plantains, black beans, and crumbled cheese, the same ingredients as the national dish of Venezuela, the pabellón criollo. El caribe features salmon, while queso and plantains each find a home nestled in separate cornmeal sandwiches. Quiero Arepas features all gluten-free dishes. The grand opening happens to coincide with the restaurant’s ninth year in business; already the truck plans to hit the streets this summer and the couple signed on for a third year at Avanti." - Susan Stapleton

"The latest of the bunch is Quiero Arepas, an 8-year-old food truck and Avanti counter that’s finally moving into its own space in the current home of Makan Malaysian Cafe on Old South Pearl Street. With Makan closing on December 22, Quiero Arepas will take over the lease January 1 and open sometime in early 2019, Westword reports. For now, Arepas owners Igor and Beckie Panasewicz are also planning on keeping their Avanti stall open. But the new restaurant will allow them some more kitchen space and an expanded, all gluten-free menu. From the current stall and food truck, the couple serves corn-flour sandwich pockets stuffed to the brim with hit combinations like El Caribe — avocado, smoked salmon, fried plantains, guasacaca (avocado salsa), capers, and shredded cheese." - Josie Sexton

Google
Great tasting food, friendly service, and a nice location. Also bonus points for being celiac/GF friendly! Both Arepas we tried were delicious!

Katherine Crites

Google
These are my favorite arepas in town! The crew is friendly, the ingredients are incredibly fresh, and you can watch them make your food right there. I thought it wouldn’t be enough food at first, but these arepas are very filling!

Google
Nice, clean and colorful vibe inside. So glad they have built the business to include this location too. The arepas were on point as usual, with fresh ingredients that leave you feeling satisfied. I wish the portions were a bit bigger for what you pay, or the hot sauce wasn’t an extra charge but it makes sense for this part of town. Will be back to get my fix!

Google
One of the best Denver eats out there! El Caribe (smoked salmon) is my fave but the S Pearl St location serves amazing breakfast arepas on Sundays, which aren’t on the menu! Great stop before or after the Pearl Street Farmers Market

Google
Absolutely amazing food. Great portions for the price! Definitely will be coming back.

Google
Amazing food and great location in a nice neighborhood. This was our first time at this location and we couldn't have been happier. Everything was cooked so perfect! We had the Queso and Pabellon Arepa, which both were amazing bursting with flavor! The beef in the Pabellon was amazing! I couldn't be happier. They even spice up their plantains which was a nice change! The crew working in here definitely know what they are doing and are doing it so well. We will totally be back again!

Google
Stepping out in search for different than my ordinary and am pleased to say this one paid off. The food was flavorful, beautifully presented and there was quite a healthy amount. The staff was welcoming and most accommodating with explanations of their dishes and bits of the backgrounds behind them. Wasn't able to have more than one item at once, portions and my guest wouldn't share 😅😅, but absolutely plan to visit again in order to try more.

Google
Quiero arepas became a regular for us when two in my family were diagnosed with celiac. But I wish we had been coming here much sooner! Everything is so delicious and fresh. And the service is top notch.

Yelp
I don't know where to start, this restaurant is spectacular. From its authenticity, to the fresh ingredients being used, these arepas are hard to beat. Each arepa is made from scratch (including the bread), served with a friendly smile, and the quality has been consistent across many visits. Would not recommend going here expecting a quick Americanized meal. This food is handmade from raw ingredients and is top notch quality, something of which takes time to perfect!

Grace M.

Yelp
Mmmm if you love arepas and want variety this is the spot! Stop in for a quick lunch and prepare to get messy after walking on south pearl! The team was kind, and the food delicious!

Sarah F.

Yelp
Good prices! Quick service! Nice, neat space! Overall.... Pretty good! The arepa was crispy and chewy and perfectly done. The Reina Pepiada has a lot of promise in the description. There was almost a beautiful seductive dance of flavors. However, mayo came in and threw every other ingredient off the dance floor and gyrated awkwardly in the center while onlookers were just hoping it was over soon. I'd definitely go again if I was in the area, but I wouldn't get that dish again. Unless there is a state wide mayo shortage that allowed the citrus and avocado to shine.

Yelp
I tried Quiero Arepas today with my family. It is a small restaurant with 4 tables with 4 seats each, a high table by the front window & entrance with 4? bar stools and a picnic style table which I was fortunate to get while waiting for my family to arrive & park. While not terribly busy when I arrived this Saturday at 1:30; they quickly became very busy. I selected the Pabellon Arepa. It was a good sized arepa - typical I'd say - with Stewed beef, black beans, sweet plantains and cheese. It was well portioned and tasty. My favorite Pabellon Arepa is still the ones I enjoyed from Cumaco Arepa House in Indianapolis IN - the shredded beef has the most delicious flavor! If you're on a mission to try Arepas & you're in Indianapolis, make sure to try Cumaco and try Quiero Arepas on Pearl St too!

Gary M.

Yelp
Live this place. Always ready for takeout. We go here about 1x per month. Food is consistently great.

Simon H.

Yelp
One of our favorite meals in Denver, it's a nice but casual spot and these Venezuelan arepas are delicious. Similar to a pita or torta, the breading is crispy and the fillings are plentiful. We shared the pabellon (beef), reina pepiada (chicken & avocado) and queso arepas.

Ken D.

Yelp
What can I say, I love arepas and they're not easy to find. Came in after a long run on a hot day. The staff was working hard but I was greeted with a friendly hello. Ordering is at the counter and they understand that a good portion of the local population are probably new to Arepas. I ordered the pabellon which comes with juicy marinated shredded beef, plantains, black beans, and shredded cheese. Topped with their house sauce. What I love is how the outside is hot and crispy while the inside is soft and juicy. The savory flavors gush into your mouth. They served it with a fork, which didn't make sense to me.... Until I was finished and had a nice amount of scraps to feast on. I wouldn't come here to cool down from the heat of the summer as the AC was not on high. Not uncomfortable, but not a sense of refresh from the 95° day.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The food is great. I love that it is GF and the plantains are delicious. However, every time I order for pickup it is never ready on time.

Brenden R.

Yelp
Bad food bad service. I was rushed as soon as I walked in with no one else behind me system was down and they gave me the wrong order

Jill H.

Yelp
Super clean restaurant, friendly service, and fantastic food. Try the Pabellón! There are gluten free options as well.

Rahwa Y.

Yelp
The best arepas I've ever had!! They are flavorful and stuffed with tender, juicy meat. And sweet tender plantains, topped with the perfect guacsalsa and FRESH JUICE !! The owner is the sweetest person, very welcoming. I love to sit at the high top facing out the window enjoying the view while I eat. This is my favorite place for yummy food and cozy vibes.

Kimberly H.

Yelp
This was on our food bucket list and did not disappoint! We got the chicken avocado option and was refreshing on a HOT Denver summer day!!! Everything was quality and the staff was nice. I'd eagerly go back and try a different flavor. The worst part of my experience was not having stomach space to try out all the options #FirstWorldProblems

Savannah K.

Yelp
Delicious arepas !! I always got their food truck arepas and when I found the actual restaurant, I was thrilled! The arepas have so much flavor and are filling. Staff was extremely friendly! Not a ton of indoor seating. They offer takeout.

Regan K.

Yelp
My Venezuelan boyfriend gives this place the stamp of approval, which makes it legit! We were craving arepas and found this spot online. We tried two different kinds of arepas, both were delicious! However, the Reina Pepiada is both of our favorites. It isn't named the Queen for no reason. The service was great and they were so friendly. They brought the food out to where we were sitting, welcomed us and said goodbye. I have to say, the plantains were SO delicious, I highly recommend you try. Even on a snowy Spring day, the restaurant was buzzing with people. It was clean, had good vibes and great food!

Lizi S.

Yelp
The arepas here are amazing and the different types means there's something for everyone! The outside is the perfect blend of chewy and crispy. My favorite is the Reina Pepiada with a side of plantains. Definitely try the juice if you get a chance!

Tarrah T.

Yelp
I've been a fan of Quiero Arepas since they opened in Avanti years ago, but this was my first time at their Pearl Street location. We got the Pabellon and the El Caribe, and it would be a hard task to pick which one was better! Both were delicious, with totally different flavor profiles. Sweet gal working the front counter, simple, yet nice decor, and very fresh ingredients! And everything is GF - a huge bonus for me!

Mark M.

Yelp
Simply fresh, authentic and delicious. We had the Pabellon, Reina Pepiada, and Pollo Guisado arepas with a side of platenos. The portions are generous and the people are super friendly. The establishment is clean, contemporary. We'll definitely be back.

Nick K.

Yelp
A friend and I got supper here and had the most delicious arepas and a craft beer. Great quality, service and experience overall

Brandon J.

Yelp
**CELIAC SAFE** Decent sandwich but only recommend dining in because they will get your order wrong. "Kitchen" doesn't care or pay attention. Every couple months I'll stop by and get my hopes up and they let me down. Don't recommend any menu modifications. Check your takeout bags they consistently forget items or serve the wrong food. Sucks because it's actually tasty. Just not $25 after tip for the wrong order tasty.

Alex B.

Yelp
Delicious complex flavors in a hand held bite. This place is pretty damn amazing. Good beer selection too.

Jaimielyn B.

Yelp
Very happy to have Quiero Arepas in the Platt Park area! The location is the perfect size with a few tables as well as bar-level seating at the window. The menu has options that should suit all appetites and you can't go wrong with any of them. I've enjoyed both the Pabellon and Pollo Guisado. The ratio of filling to arepa is perfect, with the arepa not too thick or too thin. I also encourage partaking in their beverages; there are a couple in a coconut, and the passionfruit juice is delicious. I really enjoy coming here and having a great option for arepas in the neighborhood

Abby L.

Yelp
Great service from when you walk in the door! Greeted with a smile. Delicious food! I followed them from Avanti to their own location here. Absolutely in love with this place. Especially with being gluten free. Everything is gf! The whole kitchen! It's amazing. Thanks Quiero!

Tara B.

Yelp
If you don't think healthy can taste good, you haven't eaten here yet! It is an amazing and unique meal that I highly recommend. You will leave feeling full, but not heavy. It's a delightful feeling if satisfaction! My favorite is the Domino with Avocado. Whether you eat there or get it to go, you will be excited to come back again!

Doug M.

Yelp
Delicious. Reasonably priced. Always super friendly. Sorry, need I say more? Apparently I do because there's a character minimum. So I'll tell you the Reine Pepiada is my favorite, but you can't not get some plantains, so add plantains. It's a good plan-tain.

Kathy S.

Yelp
I order pick up from here once a week and am truly obsessed. The ingredients are always fresh, the flavours are incredible and the staff is kind and courteous. I crave this place more than anywhere else.

Holly H.

Yelp
Don't expect to walk in, order and walk out with your food in 5 or 10 minutes. They are literally making the bread for your sandwich after you order. It is a multi- step process of making the masa, forming it, grilling it and then baking it. If you have time for a leisurely lunch, it's great. Otherwise, pass. A take-out order can be 15 or 20 minutes, and they weren't answering the phone for call-in orders. This may be a very casual restaurant, but it is not fast food.

Angelo W.

Yelp
Fried plantains and Pollo Guisado with fresh coconut water. Everything about this place can be summed up in one word... perfection. The white corn meal has a light textured crunch to it. The chicken is moist and along with the black beans and melted cheese is to die for. The fried plantains are like eating fried pork belly. The fresh coconut water is tapped after you order and is sooo good. If you have not tried this place you need to go. The pearl St. Location is where we ate and the owners were working out of that location today. He is from Caracas and it shows. Very nice, very humble people making some unbelievable food.

Jen P.

Yelp
Best GF sandwich I've ever had. If I lived closer to this place, I'd eat here weekly. Yum!!!

Marilyn B.

Yelp
These Arepas are really great, freshly made with delicious fillings. Crunchy, crusty and yummy.

Carolina M.

Yelp
The best arepas in town. I tried them all so you don't have to lol but seriously these are the best. Big portions, the sauces are delicious. They always have gear natural juices ( passion fruit) , Venezuelan sodas and coconut water.

Deidre F.

Yelp
I have never tasted anything like this and it was delicious! This was my first "real" arepa. I highly recommend the Reina Pepiada. It has the amazing guasacaca and avocado mixed with citrus mayo dressing. It is a beautiful light green color. I love chicken salad. It reminded me of chicken salad in an arepa but 1000% better. The actual arepa bread was baked to perfection. The size is not small. I recommend coming hungry because the arepas are packed full of amazingness and you don't want it to go to waste! Everything here is made to order. Your food may take longer than you expect. But you cannot rush perfection. The plantain chips are cooked and made to order. They are always fresh. The only thing that would have made my experience better was if I liked coconut. There are so many amazing coconut drinks on the menu. I understand why this establishment is rated in the top 20 and 100 food trucks in the United States! So glad they have a brick and mortar location you can always go to. I look forward coming back here with my sister (she is gluten free) when she comes to visit Denver!

Rika M.

Yelp
I had my very first sandwich (precisely, arepa) today. I ordered from the Pearl St location as this is the closest from my house. The arepa (La Original - vegan one with plantain, avocado, and black beans) was absolutely amazing. However, they forgot to include the two additions I had specified when I ordered it: side extra sauce (Guasacaca) and Capers. I quickly noticed that the sauce was not in the bag (so I, of course, went back inside and asked for it; the guy there was polite and apologized for it.) I really couldn't tell if the Capers were included in my sandwich as this was added not as "on the side". Since I was pretty hungry by the time I picked it up, I rushed home. As I started taking a bite into it I realized that there were no Capers inside the sandwich. I paid extra for this so I was pretty bummed about it. I thus wrote to the restaurant wondering if they could send me a discount code for next time. I hope they do. Other than that, the sandwich was pretty darn tasty (I have no doubt other kinds are too!) I will go back for sure as I want to taste them all.

Sam S.

Yelp
Simply amazing. This spot lived up to the hype and then some. Such a lovely establishment, kind staff & magnificent food. Had the stewed beef & pollo guisado arepas & I couldn't have been more pleased !! Had a fresh coconut and got settled in the wonderful ambiance that is Quiero. Thanks for having me ! I'll be back

Holly H.

Yelp
Best arepas ever!!! This is always our first stop when we fly into Denver! I love this food so much!

Jen N.

Yelp
This place smelled wonderful when we walked in. The owner greeted us, and after we said that it was our first visit, he explained the menu as well as his suggestions. Decided on the Pollo Guisado and Side of Plantains, and Passion Fruit Juice. They were hand forming the Arepas as we watched. Fresh! I like that they use metal trays, silverware and no straws. The Arepa was so flavorful with black beans and seasoned meat. The plantains were excellent. The sauce had a vinegar taste to it which really complimented the mild sweetness of the plantains. Everything was hot, which I love. The juice was ice cold. The atmosphere here was warm and inviting. What a great find.

Justin S.

Yelp
Can honestly say I've never had a better Arepa in my life. It was fantastic, would highly recommend. A highlight on vacation. And very friendly and nice staff. And the passion fruit juice was also top notch.

Tak L.

Yelp
This is a wonderful addition to the Platt Park neighborhood. I have eaten Arepas in other cities I was super excited when Quiero Arepas expanded from a food truck to sit down restaurant. If you've never had an arepas, this is Venezuela's version of a stuffed sandwich. Whether they're filled with juicy strands of Venezuelan-style shredded beef or with Guyanese cheese, sweet plantains and avocado, the stuffed corn pastries at this cheery, no-frills eatery make for a satisfying meal all on their own.

Kathleen G.

Yelp
Best arepas eva! I love these because they offer meat and vegan GF options. The sauce is magical, get extra.

Susan S.

Yelp
Five stars. Absolutely delicious. I had the Domino and my husband had the Reina. All gluten free, which is a delight.

Shelbi B.

Yelp
Had a delicious Reina Pepiada for dinner here. The service was very friendly and efficient. Very authentic arepas and would love to try the others on the menu. Will definitely be back!

Magda C.

Yelp
This location opened recently. I had the original arepa and I really liked the combination of flavor. Crispy corn bread stuffed with avocado, beans and plantains, with green sauce that was fresh and tasty, however too little of it and it felt a bit dry. It's a good size, I would say too big for someone who doesn't eat a lot. The only complaint I have is not enough sauce to blend in with the ingredients. I'll sure be back!

Mark R.

Yelp
Came here for lunch in Valentine's Day 2023. Super amazing yummy lunch! I got the shredded beef pabellon. It was super!! The lady is super nice. Easy parking. Plantains are delicious. Gluten free. Cheese optional. Music was fun and jolly. Come here now!!!

Norm S.

Yelp
Always friendly service and arguably the best arepas and plantains in Denver. Must order- the VERY fresh, in the shell, coconut water. They'll cut the top off the coconut, provide straws to drink directly from the coconut, then, when you're done, will scrape the fresh coconut meat from the inside of the shell as an extra treat.

Melody D.

Yelp
Arepas! I just love saying the word. And I love eating them as well! It's not easy to find a good arepas so when we located this quaint little restaurant, we knew it would be good. They serve up great quality, healthy options. I had the Reina Pepiada. The ingredients were fresh, and the chicken tender. My friend ordered the Pabellon which was also very good. Little pockets of comforting goodness. I will be sure to come back again when in Denver.

Alyse H.

Yelp
I had never had an arepa before I tried one from here, but now, yo las quiero!! It's basically a portable packet of deliciousness. My Denver resident sister brought me here because her best friend has Celiac disease and is gluten free and QA is in their weekly meal rotation. I ordered one with plantains, black beans, shredded beef, cheese and I added avocado which made it even more moist and savory. Although it was technically the first day Denver restaurants could open for on premise dining, QA was still to-go only. We ordered online and it was ready exactly when they said it would be. There is ample parking on the side of the building, which is great in a parallel parking neighborhood.

Pete G.

Yelp
I stopped by this South Pearl Street arepa spot for lunch while enjoying a long walk on a pretty early spring day. The menu has good options for carnivores and vegetarians alike. I really enjoyed my La Original made with fried plantains, black beans, and avocado. The food came out quickly, the arepa was nicely crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the fillings were delicious. The combination of the slightly sweet plantains with the savory beans and avocado works really well. You have the option of adding cheese, and although I can see how that would be good, it was great with the standard preparation. It's nice having places like this in the neighborhood offering perhaps lesser know Latin American cuisine.

Kira R.

Yelp
So delicious!!! I don't live in Denver, but when I come back, I want to go back here. This was the perfect Mother's Day treat!!

Massiel G.

Yelp
These arepas are crispy and delicious!! The carne mechada is super tasty too! The staff is attentive and very nice!

Rach N.

Yelp
Amazing. Love their food. Women, Family owned, and a great addition to the neighborhood. Healthy, delicious and authentic. Highly recommend.
