How to Eat Your Way Around Rappahannock County in 24 Hours | Eater DC

"One of the standout wineries in the area, this spot delivers not only great wine but also a spectacular setting that makes a tasting feel like a full-fledged outing. The flatbreads on offer are pretty solid too, adding a satisfying food option to the experience." - Lulu Chang

Google
Stopped by on a quiet Saturday afternoon after a recommendation from the staff at Patty O’s Café. The staff were incredibly helpful and loved our golden retriever we brought with us! The wine was excellent and we were guided through building a custom flight for ourselves. We will definitely be returning.

Google
A dream setting and delicious wines. This was my second visit to the pup friendly winery, first time with warm weather. We could drink this view and the wines all day. We also loved flatbreads and service was spectacular.

Carolyn F.

Google
This winery is young and needs some time to bring its wines up to the level of its other amenities. Staff were nice, but maybe too nice, since when we were there, their friends were getting drunkenly chatty at the bar. Didn’t taste a red worth bringing home. Lots of potential; hope they improve the quality over time.

Cherie M.

Google
The BEST service and INCREDIBLE wine. We tasted this at a wine festival and drove 1.5 hrs to have their wine. The views are spectacular and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and I learned a lot more about wine! We loved the Chardonnay and the Rouge De Ferme. Wonderful wines and amazing atmosphere. We will be back!

Stephen J.

Google
We've been here twice and both times were very glad we came. We have been to plenty of wineries and the people here rate at the top! Ciara was so friendly and accommodating. We like reds, so she altered the flight to give us all red wines. She had a cheese plate made up even though the kitchen was closed and there was a food truck on site. That plate was reasonably priced considering all the local cheeses and other snacks. Their flight gives four very large pours for $9. The inside is beautiful with eclectic art pieces collected by the owner. There was live music on the deck on this spring day and the views of the pond and mountains were perfect. Even though some wines were not our favorites, they were good. Overall, I believe most winery visitors are after the experience anyway, and Quievremont delivers in a great way. If you find this helpful when making your trip decisions then give this a "helpful" vote. Thanks. (Photos from 10/21)

Google
Such a lovely winery! We stopped in after a tough hike nearby, and the wine and pizza hit the spot perfectly. I was originally drawn in by their cider (I know — cider at a winery!), and it did not disappoint. The gentleman working was fantastic — after learning that I enjoy sweeter wines, he offered us a taste of their Petite Manseng, and we loved it so much we brought a bottle back with us!

Michael S.

Google
Very nice winery with great views. Pleasant tasting room and back deck. The fellow at the bar, who gave us the wines, was very nice and informative about the winery. We didn't ask specifically but we believe he was of the Quievremont family. We tried their tasting flight plus their Rouge de ferme blend. They whites were average but the reds were above average. The blend was the best at a 7.5 out of 10. The wines needed some aging to fully develop but overall a pleasant experience at a winery that should get better with time.

Google
We magically stumbled upon quievremont looking for a winery near Shenandoah and we are thankful we did! Great scenery and great service! The vibes were there 💯

Yelp
I was excited to try this winery with all the great reviews. My friend and I each got flights. It just wasn't great. There were wines we didn't even want to finish. We did not stay for a glass after. Maybe it was an off day, but we just really didn't get the high reviews. The service was good, but I won't be going back.

Yelp
Such a great little family owned winery. Beautiful views on the back deck with a pond and mountains a stone throw a way. Wines are tasty we enjoyed the 21 and 23 Merlot as well as the late harvest dessert wine and white port
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
The dry reds were good for a small winery. The lake and mountains are more to the left of the property with a field out back but it is still a good review. The service is quick and friendly. There is cheese and meats there that you can buy.
google avatar

Abe K.

Yelp
Beautiful scenic views with a nice deck. Came at opening on a Sunday and was a peaceful afternoon. Enjoyed the dry red blends with a custom tasting and a cheese board. Pricing is pretty fantastic. The man serving us was really delightful and kind to us and the dogs.

Yelp
We had a really great experience at Quievremont while exploring the Shenandoah area during fall foilage. Got their wine flight which comes with five different wines. You can also substitute any wine you don't want with something else. You get a little bit of everything from red, white, and a rose. They also have snacks you can purchase from cheese and crackers. They have a great outdoor seating area with a beautiful view of the mountains. Service was gray and staff were super friendly. A great winery to visit while spending a day in Shenandoah!

Yelp
This has definitely become my go to vineyard in the county. You can always grab a seat on their beautiful patio (which is also dog friendly). They also have snacks to enjoy as well as flights. It's definitely a casual experience so don't expect the full Napa overdone education when you are ordering. Everyone in our group found something they liked. My personal favorite was the Chardonnay. It can be a little tricky to find and it's easy to miss the turn off on 211... but then again I don't think we want too many people learning about this little gem...

Yelp
Beautiful family-run boutique winery and farm tucked away near the Blue Ridge Mountains.... People who stop in are welcomed like family; join their wine club, and you become like family. They have a lovely clean and crisp Chardonnay, and their reds are also quite delicious. There are delicious bites to accompany the wines, and there is a lovely view of vineyards, the farm, and the mountains to enjoy from their beautiful tasting room. They also have a resident artist (Patty Sevre), an expert in glass engraving, who can transform your favorite wine glass into a work of art. (Or you can purchase some of her works at the tasting room....)

Yelp
Great winery with great wine, views and nice artwork with a medieval theme. Speaking of medieval theme, it would be smart for ownership to amplify that some more because it sets them apart from their neighboring businesses. Visiting a winery isn't just about the wine, rather the experience and atmosphere. They also have koi fish in the pond, which I can see families enjoying with their kids. The winery owner's son, Nick, seems to be the manager weathering the storm, no matter how busy the winery gets. He's a joy for customers and the community to deal with. The tasters Joe, Anthony and Matt are excellent. Everybody else on the team needs to look to Nick, Joe, Anthony and Matt for answers, so they can benefit from their expertise, grace, charm and customer service skill. When good people run a winery, the results speak for themselves. All of the wines are great, but Cabernet Franc is my favorite. Enjoy!
google avatar

Tara W.

Yelp
Great views! They also serve fresh cheese made fresh from the dairy you can see across the pond :)) I tried the Cab Franc, and it was delicious. ALSO, the cheese board here is bang for your buck and has A LOT on it for the price, including 3 huge wedges of the fresh cheese I mentioned, salami, dried figs and dates, nuts, crackers, and jam. I definitely recommend getting it to snack on and take in the views and sounds of the environment around! Kind staff, and great patio option!

Yelp
I visited this winery and honestly it was the one of the most underwhelming wineries I've been to (although Blue Quartz was nearly as disappointing). First off, no counter tastings. I had never been to this winery before, I was a solo winery visitor, and all they wanted to do was sell me a flight. I settled for a glass of Petit Manseng which was good. The tasting room is nice but frankly I cannot think of anything memorable about this location. The staff were rather cold. There are better wineries in the area.

Stephen G.

Yelp
Wandered off the highway when we saw a sign after we came off the the Skyline Drive. Nick was great telling us about the place and we had a couple of flights and a charcuterie board which were excellent. It was well worth taking a chance on a sign! (Forget about the internet in this area. It is non-existent).
google avatar

Shayne S.

Yelp
They specialize in the Bordeaux blends, which I really like. They also have an outstanding White, which is refreshing and crisp.
google avatar

Yelp
Virginia wines are more often about the ambiance than the wine. Our visit snd tasting at this winery was the exception. Not only was the venue complete with rustic old beams, spectacular pond and Mountain View's, warm and knowledgeable staff, but the wine was excellent. Good reds are hard to find on this coast and varietals with Franc are almost always earthy and dirty tasting. The cab Franc here was everything you would expect from a French varietal grown in California. So pleasing to the palette! J- a wanna be local.

Yelp
Perfect after hike spot hidden right next to Old Rag neAr Shenandoah National Park. The rose was crispy and hit the right spot after a long hot hike! And the cheese and crackers recommend were a great match. The view overlooking a pond is also beautiful. Would definitely come here again.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is newly constructed and is a clean and large venue. This would be a great wedding venue as the inside is large and spacious. They have an outdoor patio with a beautiful view.

Yelp
I was coming back from Sperryville, VA and a visit to Pen Druid Brewing this past weekend - and I happen to notice the signs for "Quievremont Winery." So I have to check out all wineries at least once - so I turned off of U.S. 211 to check this place out. I did the entire tasting. They have some nice wines with potential. I liked their reds best. I think a couple of extra years in the wine rack will yield some tasty wines! The folks working here were very nice. I was served by Mark - the Winery Tasting Room Manager. Nice guy. If you buy a bottle of wine - they wave the tasting fee. I bought the red that I enjoyed the most - which is the Meritage 2012. The tasting room is spacious - lots of exposed hardwoods and lots of room to spread out. There was a folk artist playing her guitar and selling CD's the day I visited - I believe her artist name is "Peregrine North." I bought one of her CDs. #QuievremontWinery

Yelp
Quievremont has actually been open for a while, but only recently opened a formal tasting room. It's a shame they weren't better known before, because I really enjoyed my visit! This place is kinda out of the way. In fact be careful about using a GPS; the address took me to their old tasting room/farm, which is NOT where you want to go (unless petting goats is your thing; more on that latter). But the new tasting room is very nice, with a wonderful view of the farm and pond. I visited only a week after their formal opening so furniture was sparse, but that should fix itself in another few weeks. Fortunately, the patio is ready. They have 9 or 10 acres of vines, making their wines almost 100% estate (they get some Syrah from elsewhere but that's it). Some vines were planted in 2008, but many are new. In fact the tasting room's front view is full of new plantings. They also have Malbec planted (although I'm not sure if they will bottle it or use it for Bordeaux blends). The later wouldn't surprise me since the owner told me they intend to specialize in Bordeaux styles (the family name is French, after all). My server was wonderful. He talked me through all their wines, and even cleansed my glass with wine between tastings (most places use water, but wine does a better job clearing out the previous flavors). He did an admirable job trying to convince me to join their wine club, but they are a tad bit far away from me! As for the wines: Steel Chardonnay: OK. I like my Chards heavily oaked, so this wasn't my style. 2014 Merlot: The nose had lots of earth and dark cherry. The body was likewise earthy. Pretty good. 2014 Cab Franc: Like the Merlot, earth & dark cherry. Maybe this is a stylistic thing for them? 2014 Cab Sauvignon: The American Oak barrel shined thru, because I got some nice vanilla. It seemed more mellow than the Merlot of Cab Franc. I almost got a bottle, but was interrupted by... 2014 Meritage: If the other wines were earthy & black fruit, this seemed much lighter, like red cherries. Soft, too. I was so impressed I bought a bottle of the 2012 Meritage. Rose: Dry style, not bad but I'm not much of a Rose drinker. Vin de Maison: Table red (Syrah and some others): Not bad, but I was still dreaming about the Meritage so it was hard to pay attention! Quick note; the name "Quievremont" is a bastardization of the French word for "Goat Mountain", hence the pictures of goats on the label. Even better, this is a working farm that has goats! It's not exactly on the agenda, but if you ask politely they may allow you to visit the farm and pet some farm animals.

Yelp
Karl was a friendly and knowledgeable pourer. Fun to learn the history of wine in this area. Only sad thing was after realizing I'm going to be unapologetic about loving new world lush California wine, the wine in VA suffers from the old world problems--so lots of green pepper taste profiles. But still fun!
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
We had a lovely time here! Chris was just wonderful! He introduced the winery to us, gave us healthy pours and great info on each wine. A nice place to come for a glass of wine however they could use a few more tables upstairs and maybe soften the downstairs a bit. In nice weather the outdoor seating will be great. They also gave a discount to us since we had a veteran with us and it was Veterans Day. Will be back for sure!

Yelp
Pleasant visit to Quievremont Winery in Sperryville. Tried all their wines including a few table wines and red blends that were hard to distinguish. Our favorites, oddly enough, were their two wines made from California grapes. Also tried the mulled wine which was good but not memorable. Delightful conversation with their staff. Overall a nice place and we will be sure to visit again when the weather is nice.

Yelp
I wish more wineries in my Northern VA region could takes notes from this place on how it's done. Superior customer service from our pourer, Catherine. Was all smiles from beginning to end. Was thorough with the presentation and was great conversation. So refreshing. Absolutely breathtaking view behind the winery, itself. All of the wines were solid; even the reds on a hot day. Only negative was there was only 1 white, being a delicious Chardonnay. Purchased their off-dry Rose. Newly constructed facility. Live music that day. Can bring your own food or buy cheeses, meats, etc. there. Indoor/outdoor seating. Covered tables outdoors on patio. All of the staff was super friendly and spoke at least once. If it were closer, I'd have definitely joined their wine club!

Maura O.

Yelp
The young woman at the tasting room counter was very helpful in explaining how the wine tasting works (four reds, four whites, or two and two) and the pricing, which was very reasonable. We ordered the set of four tastings in red and another set with a mix. All of my reds were very good, and the standout was the Rouge de Ferme, which had some Malbec mixed with Cabernet and Merlot. My friend really liked one of the whites (sorry can't remember which). We wound up buying three bottles and again---reasonably priced. Do go ahead and get the cheese, dates, figs, olives, crackers, and nuts board. Well worth it. We sat outside on the deck, even though it was in the 40s. So beautiful as all of the reviews here have noted. There is seating inside too. BTW, the lav was spotless.

Matt N.

Yelp
Friendly staff, excellent product, beautiful setting! The rosé and Vin de Maison are personal favorites.

Yelp
So, we've been to ALL wineries in the Northern VA area (yes, this is still part of that area, unfortunately), so in early 2017 when we were seeking a new pace to go, we heard that this place was building their tasting room. They have been making wine for a few years and selling it via distributors, so they know what they're doing. We were anxious to try them out! So, we finally went in August 2017, after they've been open and got their routine. The person who gave us our tasting was VERY knowledgeable in wine and their offerings. He also did a great job explaining the winery and how they make their various wines. We opted for the full tasting, which is $16 per person, but it comp'd when you buy a bottle - this is how ALL winery MUST do this! Folks like us who are there to actually try their wines to know what to buy (which is what a tasting is about, it's NOT about getting drunk with your group of loud friends!) prefer getting a comp'd tasting when we buy. Not only did we buy one, we bought 4 on this trip and we'll be back to buy more! Their wines tasted really well! The other staff in the tasting room was also knowledgeable and very helpful and they're very nicely trained and structured to treat wine and their customer appropriately. My only gripe was that their fridge was not stocked with decent stuff... they should offer more local cheese, meats, etc, not "Lunchables!" The tasting room was BEAUTIFUL! Really loved the timber framing and also the view from their deck was amazing! Definitely will return and encourage all those seeking decent wine and a good, QUIET, relaxing time to do the same!

Grace F.

Yelp
We loved Quievremont! The service was excellent and the wine was good. There was ample outdoor space and they had a fire pit, great for winter COVID-friendly outings. The views were beautiful, we will return!

Yelp
Queivremont was one of three wineries that I went to over the course of two days. Our pourer, Stuart, really stood out to make Quievremont my favorite. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, and offered more information than a memorized script (not to mention a couple of off-menu wines!). I liked that a tasting fee was waived with the purchase of one bottle of wine (as opposed to more than one bottle like some other places). A few other people came in during our time there; the establishment seems to have its "regulars". If I lived closer, I would probably become one, too!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
My middle son set up a wine "tasting" (no tastings are available at this time due to COVID - 19). So we had flights of 8 wines. They were served on the back porch 4 at a time with an explanation of each. I've never heard of this winery but wow! They have some excellent wines. The Chardonnay is more unoaked and has a terrific taste. The Cabernet Franc was excellent. The other six wines were all very good especially the Malbec and Vin de Maison. The table red and table white were surprisingly tasty. Of the eight wines my least favorite was the Rose and then the Merlot. If you are in the area I highly recommend you stop in for a "tasting". And take some home with you! We bought a case!
google avatar

Suha V.

Yelp
Been to a lot of Napa Valley wineries which weren't as pretentious as this one. Maybe the staff , made up of young women , need remedial lessons in manners. Too bad they lost a lot of potential business.

Shane U.

Yelp
The winery is beautiful with excellent quality wine The service has always been excellent as we visit the location regularly

Yelp
My boyfriend and I recently stopped by Quievremont Winery during a "getaway weekend" in Luray, VA. The simplest piece of advice that I can give to others looking at wineries in the area is CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! You will not be disappointed. The wines are the best in the area, the tasting and bottles are affordable, and the tasting room is not overly packed, and has a beautiful view of the vineyard and nearby Reality Farm. Seriously, out of the three other vineyards we visited in the area, and even in comparison to some we have been to in California, this is a lovely place to do a wine tasting and relax outside with a glass/bottle of wine. The wines tend to be a bit on the dryer side and are absolutely excellent! Crisp, flavorable, and unique! At the end of the tasting, we bought glasses of the Chardonnay, and bottles of the Rose (off dry), Merlot, and Mertiage, i.e. Quievremont makes lovely wines across the vino spectrum. Of additional note, we were helped by Karl who was incredibly knowledgeable and affable, and whose jovial demeanor made our experience all the more memorable :)

Yelp
Unfortunately, we were disappointed with this winery. We stumbled upon it yesterday on our way back from a long and strenuous hike, and we're looking forward to relaxing with a nice bottle of wine. Pros: the staff seemed friendly, and were more than willing to allow us to bring our dog into the tasting room, which we appreciated. They also had some live entertainment. Cons: the wine simply was not good (the reds at least). We tried all of the red wines in their a la carte tasting, and we really like big reds/bold reds, but discovered all of theirs to be watered down/lacking in flavor. Even their Malbec didn't taste quite right. We felt bad leaving the tasting without having purchased a bottle.
google avatar

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Best winery in the state!!! Congrats N&M!!! My favorite wine was the Malbec or rose. John and Terri were amazing hosts. Hope to come back soon.
google avatar

Imo P.

Yelp
This is a new winery and they're off to a great start! They have a beautiful new tasting room and deck and their wines are far above what is normally expected from a new winery. The deck is also dog friendly. Best of all the staff is both very friendly and knowledgeable! Make the time to get to know Quievremont!

Deborah W.

Yelp
If you would like to enjoy an afternoon at a Beautiful winery tasting some of the best Virginia wines served by very knowledgeable and friendly staff, then you must visit Quievremont Winery. My wife , Debbie and I we're so impressed we joined as Members on our First Visit. While visiting be sure to check out what Reality Farms has to offer of which the winery is associated with.
google avatar

Ru I.

Yelp
Not wheelchair or handicapped accessible. We really want to like this place but unfortunately cannot get inside bc it is not handicapped accessible. It's a shame, and a violation of ADA requirements , that this place hasn't considered accommodating patrons with accessibility needs.

Yelp
This place was a delight, and one of the best wine tasting experiences I've had anywhere (yes, including California!). The tasting room is a brand-new, Amish-built barn style building situated on a hill overlooking a pond on their estate, and while it still has that "new building smell" and feel, the place has tons of potential and will only get better with age (like wine!). As it is, they have a terrific deck for sipping wine while gazing out on the countryside, a great space indoors for live music (with couches), and a coming-soon loft area. Our tasting server was terrific, knowledgeable and fun, and the wines were great, particularly the Chardonnay and Rose' (not usually our favorites!). Tasting prices were a little high compared to other wineries ($8-9 for 4 wines), but the wine, the service and the setting are worth it. Plus, they waive the tasting fee with the purchase of a bottle. Great to experience a winery that looks to have a very bright future, and we will definitely be back next time we are in the Shenandoah NP/Sperryville area.

Yelp
We loved our experience at this winery. Theresa was the best wine server - such great enthusiasm and energy. We loved it and will be back!!

Beth M.

Yelp
Another rave review for Karl! We stopped randomly here Saturday night and Karl did our tasting. He was knowledgeable and I've never laughed so much at a tasting. Not only was the wine wonderful but Karl made the experience memorable both with his knowledge of the wine making process and his funny quips throughout the tasting. Thank you for a lovely evening!!

Kelly E.

Yelp
Loved this winery! All staff were amazing! Highly recommend this spot when traveling in this area!

Yelp
I currently live in California and love my CA wines, but, I am a strong believer in giving the small guys a try. There are so many wineries out there that you may find only one bottle that you can live with but not love. This was the third winery we tried on our day of wine tasting and by far our favorite. I have to say each and every wine they poured for us I truly enjoyed. I went home with a bottle of 2014 Merlot, which was on sale for $22, and also a bottle of my favorite, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon for $28. The tasting fee is waived with a purchase of a bottle and if you purchase 6 or more bottles, you get a 5% discount. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and I hope to visit again sometime soon!

Yelp
Great atmosphere and staff. Beautiful location. Your manager is a jewel!! Will def consider this place for my birthday in April.

Shawna B.

Yelp
Not to talk more about Karl, but he really made the experience fully wonderful. He was very informative and great to talk to in general. This was also hands down the best wine I've had in Virginia. I would highly recommend this and will be bringing my friends by soon. It's well worth the two hour drive.

Seth W.

Yelp
Yep - came here to say that Karl is incredible. We had the best time when we stopped by randomly last week on our way through the area. We highly recommend this winery. Did a wine tasting and loved the wines. Even better than the wines is conversation with Karl. Super knowledgeable and personable, he really made our trip.

Jeff D.

Yelp
This our favorite winery! The staff is insanely knowledgeable, especially the Manager, Karl. The wine is unbelievably good, and consistently good each year. The winery building is beautiful and overlooks a pond where you can see the abundant wildlife of Virginia......and the deck is a peaceful sanctuary. Definitely recommend this winery as great place to visit for families, friends and couples.

Joe S.

Yelp
The previous reviews are spot-on. Our experience yesterday was delightful and very educational.
