Love this little seaside hole in the wall that has some of the best seafood in the state! Being off season, we found great parking and we were seated right away and offered the choice of inside or outdoor seating. It was a beautiful day, so we opted to sit on the deck, which had been closed in with portable vinyl windows.
Being a seafood junkie, the menu is among my favorite anywhere. So. Many. Choices. October calls for chowder and that decision was easy, since they offer a sampling of all three! I first ate the Rhode Island chowder, which is clear. Absolutely heavenly with tender, sweet bits of clam and just enough of an unidentified spice. Next up was the Manhattan, or red. I don't like mine too tomatoey and this was perfect, again with just enough herbs and spices. Lastly came the New England style, or white. It was thick, creamy and oh so delicious. Each 4 ounce serving came in a glass bowl that resembled a short drinking glass - perfect for sipping the last few drops.
To follow my chowder experience, I ordered the crab cakes, intrigued by the honey ginger sauce. Again, they hit the nail on the head. They were amazing and the sauce had just a hint of both ingredients so that it paired nicely with the crab and did not overwhelm.
My date, on the other hand, being a very sheltered consumer of all foods that are not meat & potatoes, ordered the cheese burger. Normally, I'd scoff at such a culinary blunder (okay, there may have been some minor sarcasm involved), but knowing him, I couldn't argue. The menu described it as charbroiled Angus beef, so at least it was a real burger and not a frozen substitute to appease the non-seafood eaters. He enjoyed it and even shared his fries.
Before departing, I went I side to use the restroom - Holy coziness! The fireplace was going and it was so nice! Perfect for an October day!!
