Twitter Resurrected the Quiznos Spongmonkeys Commerical From the 2000s | Eater

"An early-2000s fast-food sandwich chain ran a notorious 2003 TV spot that commissioned the original creator of the rathergood 'Spongmonkeys'—those stretched, rodent-like characters in hats—to produce the ad. The janky, unsettling animation became a proto-meme that lodged in millennial internet memory and later prompted nostalgic, jokingly conspiratorial viral threads claiming it 'put a hex' on a generation. The campaign is remembered as an example of a time when chains occasionally hired original internet artists for marketing instead of simply appropriating meme content." - Jaya Saxena

I was excited to see a Quizno’s upon my arrival to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) because I thought Quizno’s went out of business years ago. I decided to stop by before my departure to grab one of my longtime favorite items to order here: A toasted tuna melt with provolone cheese and a side of red wine vinaigrette. Well, it’s been over a decade since I last had Quizno’s so their menu had changed and they offered cheddar cheese with pickles and tomatoes with their tuna melts. I placed an order for tuna melt but opted out of the tomato and left the pickles and cheddar. The ladies working here were great. I wish I could say the same for the sandwich. It looked a little sad and it didn’t taste the best either - even with the vinaigrette. I probably should have ordered one of their top sandwiches instead but nostalgia took me bag to a time when I enjoyed the tuna sandwich. This Quizno’s is just over in Gate D near D35 & D36. They do have a lot of tables and chairs to eat but the ambiance is loud foot traffic, and it’s near the restrooms.

Really liked this shop, which is in the D Gates area of the airport. Very friendly and helpful staff and the prices, while high compared to Quiznos stores outside the airport, still were reasonable for this size airport. Finally, the sub was okay at best.

December 2023: Tried an ultimate turkey club sandwich 🥪. It's been many years since I have tried a Quiznos. It used to be one of my favs for sandwiches on the go. I found today's sandwich very underwhelming. Bread was a bit thick like Subway's. Not a lot of ingredients. A very small amount of lettuce and a few thin slices of pale tomatoes. Wouldn't come back again in the near future.

Recently ordered their veg sandwich and it was delicious! Initially we had a feeling that it might be small (considering the location and we had never been tto quiznos before), but we still ordered it. We ordered an 8” veggie sub with swiss cheese and it was delicious! The staff was friendly and accomodated our request for changing the type of cheese, the bread and the veggies tasted fresh. And the process was pretty quick! So loved it. One of the nice veggie option at the airport that’s not too expensive!

Updating my 5 star review from 3 years ago. This place really went down the gutter. Person got my our order wrong she was barely audible. The quality is ROugh soggy Bread. Not great at all. I’m now wondering if I was drunk the last time I ate here because this isn’t good.

Google
update 5/4/23: Their service and food quality has definitely gotten better since last year when I first wrote my review. On top of that, I noticed that their overall average rating is 4.0 which is higher than any other restaurant at this airport. --- I've had Quiznos dozens of times in my life and have always enjoyed it. Not this time. I understand this is the airport but these guys could do a much better job with introducing some taste in the sandwich. It was $13 for an 8 inch Angus Steak sandwich. Too much for what I got.

Thomas Williams

Google
Sandwich was good. Bread fresh, lettuce was not. Expensive, even for an airport.

Google
Crappy airport version of Quiznos. Limited selection. Only one size option. Go somewhere else if you actually want Quiznos.

Yelp
I paid $20 for an Italian salad. It was a decent portion. The ingredients were fresh. There was a good variety of toppings. I am very happy that I got a good salad at the airport. Eating vegetables while traveling is important.

Yelp
This is messy With an hour before boarding, I decided to grab something to fill me up. A sandwich is a great choice and I haven't been to Quiznos for about three months. The only one I know left on island is at HNL. I got the chipotle steak sandwich and maybe that's the last time get this. It was messy and the bread was a little tough to chew. And I didn't realize I was getting roast beef. I'm not a big roast beef fan. Overall two stars. Not worth the taste or price, even if you're at the airport. M

Yelp
I usually try to avoid airport food to avoid my wallet being put into a chokehold paying for the hiked-up prices. Not wanting to waste time getting to the airport and having all my belongings on me, I decided I'd just do it this time. Walking around the terminal aimlessly I finally just settled on Quiznos, which was near my section as well as being one of the more cheaper options. I also up to this point haven't seen a Quiznos in years. The last few I'd seen where abandoned shells, but if they're to survive, I suppose it would be in a populated place such as an airport. So what did I get? I wanted a breakfast sandwich but was too late, so I settled on the Mesquite BBQ chicken sandwich. everything was in order, with an ok BBQ flavor. decent amount of chicken, fresh enough lettuce, onion and tomato, warm and crispy as Quiznos is known for. Came to $15.xx, high but low compared to all the other options in the airport. Not great, but a decent enough place with a hot filling sandwich and under $20 (assuming you don't get a soda and chips)

Yelp
Avoiding hangry flying... This is for mom and since we didn't get a chance to purchase food prior to arriving at the airport it was a choice of convenience though I know she was craving a sandwich so this was the perfect win win solution. Located in Gate D area I thought Quiznos would be a nice refreshing meal after the buffet and burgers we've been having, greeting politely with friendly service from a cute kiosk it was an easy choice of "Veggie Guacamole" filled with 10 ingredients (cheddar, provolone, black olives, cucumbers, mushrooms, green peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, red wine vinaigrette) between 8" white or wheat bread is a pricey $12.99 sammy but as we waited to board she wanted to take a bite...to try lol but seem to love it and was the perfect lunch to hold her over. Thank you!

Yelp
Decent sandwich inside the airport. Over priced but everything in an airport is. Almost $5 for a bottle of pop.

Yelp
First time I tried Quiznos. Because I had a headache I wanted to have warm food. I got broccoli soup and it was good! Paying with cash has discount.service was good.

Yelp
I had a flight out of terminal 3, JetBlue. I was craving Quiznos! Quiznos is located next to other carriers, so I walked over from the gate in the Jetblue area to Quiznos. The Quiznos booth is relatively new. The menus are electronic. Ordering from Quiznos was a breeze. You walked up to the register and placed your order. I ended up getting the Baja Chicken Sandwich. Baja Chicken Sandwich: Bacon, Cheddar, BBQ Sauce. (No Onions and Chipotle Mayo). Once you ordered, you were provided a number. When the order was completed, one of the team members at Quiznos would yell out the order number. The bread was relatively fresh, but the chicken was cold and it tasted weird, very rubbery. I think the sandwich ingredients needed to be cooked a little longer. I don't think I'll stop by this Quiznos location again. It's overpriced. The service was quick though!

Yelp
I don't normally review chains but this one left me particularly offended. I have been mourning Quiznos since they skipped town. I wanted a black angus. What do you mean there is no garlic Parmesan bread. Also I don't know how the toast the subs but I also had a bunch of unmelted cheese. I'm not sure how they can call this a Quiznos. I don't know when I'll get my next one:(

Jane C.

Yelp
This was my first and last time ever trying Quiznos. The service was rude & Unaccommodating. They don't have American cheese?? And they don't cut your sandwich. And they skimp on ingredients. No thanks
google avatar

LACIE K.

Yelp
Cisoso is so rude! I asked her if I purchased something from this location If she could warm she Something up in her microwave and she said no which was understandable, however, she Proceeded to tell the whole line what was I requested which embarrassed me tremendously!!! I will tell everyone, my friends and. Family and On social media not to patronize this location.

Yelp
This is a kiosk located in Terminal one in the Delta area of the airport. This seems to have a smaller selection than larger locations. They serve warm sub sandwiches, chips and beverages. They do Ave self serve refills on fountain soda. The food was hot and tasted good. Staff did a good job getting people served quickly.
google avatar

Stan Z.

Yelp
I accidentally grabbed my sandwiches but forgot my soups. The employee at this location searched for me amongst a sea of travelers in the D terminal. I cant imagine how long it took her to locate me. She handed me my soups and wished me a safe flight. That is a level of service I have not experienced in any 5 star restaurant. Quiznos made a customer for life today!
google avatar

Drew O.

Yelp
The customer service was six stars here. Super friendly lady taking orders. It was a busy line but they moved orders quick. She confirmed everything that came on the sandwich and asked if I wanted it that way. Way impressed.

Richard S.

Yelp
I got a sprite here and it came out tasting very strange (too much syrup I think). The lady at the counter offered to take it back and replace it with a bottled one. Amazing service, great job! Thank you.

Yelp
Yuck. Yuck. Yuck. Double Yuck. Remind me to never ever again get a tuna sub from this place. It was like eating slimy cat food on a tasteless roll. Bad on me for even attempting this. As I do not eat red meat anymore I needed something to have for dinner on the long flight back to NYC and tuna seemed like a decent enough choice. Service was pleasant and quick enough. Basic airport prices. I ate basically half of the sandwich and wanted to hurl. Left the other half under my seat on the plane. I bet that was a fun surprise for the cleaning crew! How the heck is Quiznos still a thing anyway? Do your stomach and taste buds a favor and avoid this place.
google avatar

Carlos G.

Yelp
The Bottom Line: It's an airport Quiznos. Be smart about what you pick here, get the chicken, and keep it simple. Pro: It's quick, the service is nice, and it'll keep you going. Con: Quality ranges from "eh" to "dear God", so... choose the safest sandwiches.

Chris D.

Yelp
Thank god they were open at the late hours. I'm was so hungry leaving the hotel that I just wanted to eat something. I ordered the classic club. It was okay. It did the job. Staff were very friendly.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
So many things about this location that are less than desirable. #1 how can you have a cheese (provolone) available when the small selection of sandwiches that you serve come with mozzarella, but you are out of mozzarella and somehow have a cheese available that's not on the menu? #2 how does a Quiznos location not accept gift cards? #3 I guess all the bread is carted in every morning since there are tubs of pre cut 8" loafs but a person cannot order a small or large? #4 in a stand-alone Quiznos location, subs are cut in half but here they are left whole.... Seriously sh***y customer service...
google avatar

Sakena A.

Yelp
Always forced to come here because my flights are always out of D gates. And I must admit, I have been respectfully holding back for some time because I feel like it's one of the only decent food options for the price, but this time, I can't. The workers appear so unhappy. You can barely pry a smile out of any of them. No matter when I come I get skimped on all ingredients except bread. Really? Carbs kill!! And don't ask them to cut the sandwich, they'll instruct you to grab a plastic knife. Which broke the moment I tried to cut the sandwich by the way. Ughh, let's keep it real, Quiznos is a dying brand...bring on a subway, firehouse or jimmy johns and please bring positivity. Some of us frequent fliers live here. A little kindness, and a smile go a long way.

Yelp
Srisi is a amazing customer service agent. I love her positive attitude. I stop here hungry at 5am and she assist me with my order with a great early morning attitude. That is the best way to start a fly. Thanks Srisi

Yelp
This place is a sad excuse for a place to eat. Because everyone is forced to choose to eat here or at a few other over priced eateries at the airport, the customer service doesn't have to be up to par. I mean I wasn't expecting much especially for an 11$ sandwich. I'm so used to eating at subway where u get a whole footlong for 8-9$. Instead here u get an 8 inch. Plus there is NO- Make it your way. All is preset. We ordered the Italian on Parmesan bread. Combo of what I would similarly order at subway aka the BMT. When we got our sandwich, the bread was all burnt(see picture), there was way too much Italian dressing so the bread was all soggy and as we ate it, it was dripping a combo of the dressing/oil from the oily/fatty meats all down my arm. I mean I don't blame them for bad customer service, why provide good service if you don't have to?? Most places to eat at the airport have a monopoly so yea. Not bad, not good. Hard to compare when all you have else to eat is cookies, ice cream and Baha fresh express.

Yelp
As a company Quiznos in McCarran airport will strive to be the greatest company we can be. Welcome all!
google avatar

Arch M.

Yelp
Just avoid this place. I don't know where they take their expired ingredients, but looks and tastes horrible. I know the airport food is always on a bad side, but this one is the worst. If there is an Olympics of the worst food, this Quiznos location will win the first place.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
I needed something quick to eat before I boarded my flight back to NY and there was slim picking at this terminal. I haven't had Quiznos in years and probably for good reason. I had the chicken carbonara. It was pretty much exactly what I expected from a Quiznos located in the airport. The bread was mediocre and everything was overly salty. Good thing I had lots of water for the flight home.
google avatar

Bobby Y.

Yelp
As of Feb 2014, all prices at this airport location have gone up by at least 30% across the board. $11 for a dinky 7.5 inch Quiznos sub? No thanks. Very disappointing! I used to always grab a chili and a sandwich from here for non meal service flights, but I refuse to support the new price gouging going on here. There's even a new handwritten sign above the soda fountain that reads "Refills are 85 cents". Come on, man!
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
I wouldn't normally consider Quizno's to be comfort food, but there's something comforting about having a sandwich here before boarding my flight home to Atlanta. There are lots of other options for food on this concourse and I always bypass them all for a sub. It's unfortunate that you pay a premium for eating in the airport. A regular combo costs more than $10. Sometimes I guess it's worth it, though. Especially when it makes you feel sooo good inside.

Yelp
My friends and I all got food poisoning after eating here. One threw up and the other is at the hospital right now. Disgusting.

Yelp
My husband arrived at the D gates of Terminal 1 at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas with not much time prior to boarding and STARV-ING. There is a serious lack of decent food options that are quick at this terminal. One pizza place, a place to by box sandwiches, chili's too with a 40 minute wait and Quizno's. We avoid fast food like a plague for its general low quality, high fat/calorie counts and poor nutrition. We figured a sandwich would be better than pizza, I mean how can you mess up such a simple thing as a sandwich? Ha...ha! Now I will say this, my husband ordered some sort of cold cut variety on whole wheat that had a lot of ranch dressing on it and he said it tasted pretty good. He was so hungry I think he downed it in 4 bites. I tried to go a healthier route with their veggie guacamole and had it grilled, or was that toasted - I'm not sure - on parmesan bread. Here's my review: Service: friendly and quick. No complaints here. Food: Ugh. My bread was spongy, tasteless, really gross. The veggies on this veggie sandwich were black olives, TONS of diced purple onions, mushrooms and shredded iceberg lettuce. Does that sound like a veggie sandwich to you?? Does that even come close to sounding appetizing?? Where are the peppers, spinach, tomatoes?? Two layers of cheese, swiss and cheddar with a little squirt of what I think was Italian dressing and barely detectable guacamole all mushed into the lettuce. It just had no taste. A pile of tasteless unappetizing vegetables on spongy, tasteless bread. Odd thing is the sandwich looked great but did not match the flavor. I ate less than a quarter of it just to tame down the hunger pangs and the rest went in the garbage. Two stars is for the quick friendly service, I would give zero for the food if I could. Believe me, I am one on yelp who consistently gives the benefit of the doubt to places but I advise you to go elsewhere for food.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
The worst 10 dollar sandwich I ever did eat. The lady working the counter was nice. The bread tastes like subway (before they took out all of the chemicals) and the meat is just not right.
google avatar

Mia A.

Yelp
The ladies working here were lovely. They made me a mean turkey sandwich. It's an airport so the prices are high but other than the price which was expected... this place has great service.

Kayla R.

Yelp
my sandwich was loose and couldn't hold in the inners. maybe wrap better next time. this LOOSE sandwich was not worth 12 i'm gonna stick with jersey mikes
google avatar

Proteus D.

Yelp
Yuck. Ordered a tuna sandwich. Pure slop and didn't even taste great. Everything fell out the edges. I found bits of bacon in with the tuna. I heard this company is going down the pan .... hardly surprising. I ate half on my flight and threw the rest in the trash.
google avatar

Sasha W.

Yelp
This was a Quizno's @ the McCarren International airport in Las Vegas. Extremely nasty place...I could not even eat half of my sandwich. Everything was falling out of it. Also, they didn't have everything on the menu that Quiznos usually has to offer. Waste of money and stomach space for food!!!!
google avatar

Lori H.

Yelp
This place is great for a quick meal before boarding to leave Vegas. They have a tuna sub, which I appreciated since I don't eat meat, only seafood. Service was quick, they got my order right. Downgrade one star is for inflated airport prices. Highly recommend.

M. S.

Yelp
I only ate here for breakfast so I can't speak to the quality of their lunch/dinner food, but the breakfast sandwich was good. Egg and cheese, with generous quantities of both, and it tasted good. At $5.49, though more expensive than non-airport food and/or airport food in other locations, it was still a much better value and better flavor/quantity than comparable food in the same terminal. And they actually had a breakfast option without meat! All in all, I was satisfied.

Scott P.

Yelp
Awful!!! Prices are more than normal Quiznos and taste awful. No where near the taste of a normal Quiznos. Do NOT go here.
