The 25 Best Restaurants In San Sebastián - San Sebastián - The Infatuation

"The flavor of the flame is a perennial favorite in this part of the world (see: Basque burnt cheesecake). It’s the driving force behind this impressive new restaurant in Gros, opened by a Basque-Mexican couple who each brings the flavors of their native cuisine to a cozy, low-lit dining room. The menu is laser-focused on in-season produce (when you catch a glimpse of the tiny kitchen on the way to the dining room, you’ll see why), starting with a few dishes based on the vegetable pull of the week, like a white bean purée with shaved cauliflower or a five(!)-mushroom risotto topped with a lovely steak-like slice of porcini. You can order a la carte, but we recommend the tasting menu for a bit of everything, including fresh fish ceviche, chargrilled steak, and meltingly tender pluma pork. A fab wine list, broken down into light, powerful, and special occasion wines, cements R as a destination for diners who demand more than traditional Spanish wines to pair." - marti buckley

What an amazing culinary experience! Everything about it went above and beyond our expectations. The food was beyond delectable, the service was very friendly and attentive and the space was very cozy with just a few tables. Making the experience more personal. I was also very grateful that they accommodated my dietary restrictions. A MUST try hidden gem! Make sure to make reservations ahead of time. You won’t regret it! The best meal hands down during our 3 week stay throughout Spain!

We had a wonderful meal here probably our best in San Sebastián. Everything was beautifully presented and the flavour combinations were really fresh and delicious without being creative for the sake of it. I would take this over a Michelin starred meal any day. My favourite was the tuna ceviche which melted in the mouth followed by the white beans with clams. The iberico pork tacos were also scrumptious, I’ve never had pork cooked medium rare like that before but it was so tender and tasty. The sauces were also excellent - one for flavour and the other for heat. We enjoyed the Paloma and margerita, both were tasty and well made, especially appreciated the table side pour of the icy fresh margerita. What made this meal standout though was the service — super kind, well timed and warm. Wish we’d had more space to try more! You can reserve online, highly recommend booking.

The service, food, staff at this little restaurant should make Michelin starred restaurants quake in their aprons. Hands down the best ceviche, basque interpretation of tacos, truly wonderful dessert flambeed with mezcal, all with a smiling patient staff and really good wine pairings at almost half the cost of Michelin starred restaurants. I’m a little bit prejudiced but the music was phenomenal, clapton, prince, raspberries, troggs, ccr, beach boys, stones, Lou Reed, it just kept me there. They offered me an umbrella because it started raining cats and dogs, and I told them I was leaving early morning and probably wouldn’t get it back to them. They didn’t care.

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on our vacation to San Sebastián based on the amazing reviews we read. We got the tasting menu and a wonderful white wine (St. Romain Perriere 2021). Each dish was carefully crafted and truly outstanding. Having been to a number of Michelin star restaurants in the area and throughout Europe, we can say hands down this was the best meal we’ve ever had!! Worth every penny and some - the price is very reasonable. The service was also excellent, you can tell they take pride in their work. I’ll be dreaming about the cherry dessert.

Our favourite restaurant in San Sebastián We found this place entirely by accident and booked dinner for one of the evenings. We had a fabulous time, the food is amazing, the flavours and the execution is outstanding, the wine selection was equally fantastic. We tried 4 different dishes and enjoyed them all, we are both sourdough people and their sourdough bread with olive oil is so delicious. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable and the prices more than reasonable given the quality and how lively every dish was. We will be coming back as everything was above expectations.

One of the best parts of our trip!! Donostia is known for its culinary excellence but this place took it to another level! Highly recommend doing their tasting menu! The passion, kindness, and genuine love for food shines through here. A MUST if you visit the Donostia/San Sebastian area!

The restaurant kind of gives you speakeasy vibe, as the dining room is located in the back room without windows. Decoration is cute but there is not enough aeration, fans would be welcome. Food wise, we took the tasting menu, that was superb! Innovative & super tasty, a blend of Spanish & Mexican flavours. We enjoyed everything from the starters to the desserts. Service was professional & friendly, except for the sommelier, who clearly lack of experience & knowledge. To be fair we only put 4 starts because of the wine list & wine service. Wine list itself should be improved by mentioning the grape varieties & region, as well as offering more premium options. The somm should get some extra training in order to be able to pair wine with the high quality level of the food!

What a wonderful restaurant. We tried the a la carte menu. We had 3 dishes which was plenty for 2 and a chocolate desert which was amazing. The Tuna tartare was my favourite dish. We also had a lovely bottle of white wine. Alvaro served us, he was great and explained each dish to us. What a lovely place would love to go back again
