A North Beach go-to for North Indian and Pakistani dishes, Raavi grills over mesquite for deep tandoori flavor. Frequently cited by local roundups, it’s independently owned and known for generous curries and halal options.

Happened upon this spot after leaving the parking garage next door. Vegetarian options such as samosas and garlic naan. Very clean inside with outdoor seating available, pleasant atmosphere.

Google
This is my favorite Indian restaurant in SF. I've had both dine-ins and take outs, and I've found that Raavi's quality to be consistently superior to other Indian restaurants I tried, especially for the price. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, but I respect how good they are. Ignore the bad reviews and give it a try!

L

Google
Chicken Tikka masala didn't have a lot of flavor but I liked the mint & cilantro sauce. Garlic naan was more crispy than fluffy. Okay for price

Jan Matusiewicz

Google
Tasty food, a lot of vegetarian option, not expensive. The food is pretty spicy by default unless you ask for no spicy

Anton Kuznetsov

Google
Huge portions and super affordable prices. Highly recommended place in North Beach area in San Francisco 👍

Google
We ordered take out of the most popular items, chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, palak paneer, garlic naan and somosas. The somosas tasted average similar to other restaurants, although we did not receive any mint chutney or tamarind sauce. Mango lassi is typical and average. The prices for san francisco are relatively cheap The palak paneer is heavy on the spinach flavor if that is your liking. The tikka masala was not good at all. It tasted like tomato paste and cream, it was totally absent of spice. Tikka masala is a staple at any Indian restaurant and it is hard to mess this up.

Google
I’m shocked to see this restaurant being rated so highly. Their item descriptions are completely incorrect, and when I called them about it, they blatantly accepted it but didn’t even offer any resolution. I would have given 0 stars if i could. The paneer naan is basically a cheddar naan, there’s no paneer in it. The onion naan on doordash says onions stuff inside, but it was a regular naan with onions sprinkled on it. When i asked, i was told that that’s how it is and I should have have ordered onion kulcha. But on doordash they only have onion naan and the description clearly said onions stuffed inside. Rude staff, wrong food description. Even the curries were average. The prices of items is definitely good, but it’s still not worth it

Google
A perfect spot for a super casual but utterly delicious meal. I’ve never had a bad meal here. You order at the counter, they bring the food, you eat, you pat your tummy with satisfaction!

Yelp
Food is absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was full of flavor and the prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality. Great value across the board. I'd definitely order from here again. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I ordered delivery and am leaving this as much for me to remember it as to let everyone else know about it! This place is almost perfect for Indian delivery (have not been inside). I'm only sad about two things, and those are a preference thing. I love my papadum to be fried (like at Dosa/Amber India) and I absolutely looooove mint chutney and they don't offer that or the red/brown sweet sauce. If you need to adjust spice, there is no option on DoorDash. Otherwise, I was very happy with my order. Here's what I received: + Appetizer chicken momos - these were unexpectedly good. I don't remember the last time I had them so I can't compare. I do wish the hot sauce was on the side so I could opt in/out. It's definitely the hottest thing I ordered. They have a few other Nepalese-ish dishes but not many. + Chicken tikka masala + rice + naan - this is a very good deal for appx $16 w/o tax, tip, etc. I've seen people say the tikka masala is sweet and it is, which is why I like it. I mix it with other dishes (and mint chutney usually) and it makes everything perfect. :) + Okra veg dish - loved this. If you're a spice person, it wasn't as spicy as any others I've had. + Yellow daal dish - very very mild. Tasted basically like split pea soup which I like so I didn't mind. Next time I'll skip it and go for goat or something. Probably good to order for kids or picky eaters. Looking forward to ordering from here again. I hope you enjoy it too!

Yelp
Finally, a go-to Indian spot that is super affordable and also super delicious in North Beach. It's self serve so you order at the counter, grab your plates, utensils & there's even free chai take a seat and then they bring your food out to you! So easy and quick. It's not full service so don't expect Copra status or any heavily decorated tables, very casual and gets the job done!
google avatar

Yelp
The momos are killer. The Tandoori chicken was fantastic, the achaar chicken was amazing and naan! yumz. The meals here are all so delicious and for the price it's outstanding good food. Well worth the effort to go out. They give free chi tea too which is absolutely a treat to have love that part. I'd go back again. Great experience overall
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
10/10 naan 10/10 prices Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken with garlic naan is always a good vibe. Coming back to try the other dishes for sure.

Yelp
To step into the shoes of Peewee for a moment, if there was a food I'd want to marry, it would be Raavi's. How long I've lived in the neighborhood literally steps away and absently overlooked this place is beyond me!! Every single thing I've had is delectable. Including their masala tea (which apparently is one drink free with meal if you dine here). My favorite is the daal and chicken tikka, it's a must to get the garlic naan! Their prices are extremely affordable for an Indian place and they even have chicken momos here, I can die happy. (Must be some nepalese influence, love it) Another favorite is the saag paneer and can't forget the butter chicken. The seating is quaint but aplenty and they have restrooms here with a door code. The service is wonderful and they are always prompt and on the go...like literally, so many couriers coming into the place to swathe away some of the finest indian food for the take out peeps.

Yelp
If you, like me, lament current restaurant prices but also don't wish to sacrifice great taste as the trade-off I'd like to introduce you to Raavi. Numerous placards inside the sparsely furnished interior attest to the fact that "people love us on yelp" and now I can get in that line. With a location that straddles North Beach, Jackson Square, and Chinatown, Inidan fare might not be what you thought you sought and peering inside might confirm that. Step up to the register, order, and pay. Food will be brought to your table but not before you help yourself to utensils, a plate, napkins, and a self-serve, free, unsweetened chai. The place lacks charm or, really a cohesive decor, but the food and prices make up for that. The prices here are so reasonable that I was downright joyful to see the portion sizes. Both Basmati Rice ($3) and Baingan Bharta ($9; an eggplant dish) were ample enough in size to fully satisfy me and the remainders proved good for a whole second meal at home. None of this meal - which ran a total of $13 - would matter if the food weren't good but it is actually so good, so delicious, that I am already planning a return visit. The menu is large and even dishes containing seafood seem to top out at around $12. Thank you, Raavi, for helping me again find the joy in dining out.

Yelp
I've had take out from here twice now, and both times were a great experience. The most recent time I ordered through Uber Eats to my hotel and the food was delivered 5 min before the estimated arrival. The entrees are huge and could probably even feed 2 people. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and it arrived steaming hot in a large container. It came with a large side of basmati rice, as well as a large side of garlic naan. I also ordered the samosas which came with two large samosas and two dipping sauces. Overall the food itself is so flavorful and tasty. It's good quality and it travels well for takeout. I'll definitely keep ordering from here when I'm in town!
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
Great place for indian food thats close to office around Embarcadero. Tikka masala - 3.8/5, basic but delicious. I think there was a fried cheese or something in one of the containers though, which was weird. It didn't seem like there was any other meat or protein either.. I didn't open the other tikka masala containers but I hope they weren't like this one. Butter chicken - 4/5, great flavor with lots of little bits of tender chicken. Baingan bhartha - alright, I personally don't prefer eggplant this way but others liked it! Flavor was decent. Chana masala - garbanzo beans with spices. If you like beans, this seemed pretty good. Lots of people liked it. Palak paneer - paneer with spinach curry. It was good at first bite, but for some reason it was too salty after eating everything else. Samosas - people seemed to like this too!

Yelp
tldr: the most worth it Indian food around the city! My partner and I were wandering around FiDi when we saw this North Indian place and decided to check out the menu. To our disbelief, almost all the menu items were under $15 including our favorites lamb saag and lamb korma that were just $11 each! We had to try it. Walking in, we realized that everything was self service and to pay/order up front (although they still bring you your food and clean up for you). There is a self service station with water, utensils, and chai (!). The food got to us pretty quickly and sizzling hot (literally since the kebabs were on a steaming cast iron). The naan was fresh and fluffy, the saag was rich in flavor, the mango lassi as so deliciously sweet and creamy, and the lamb biryani was fragrant and massive in portion. This place is no frills yet clean and cheap yet super tasty. We spent $51 and had enough leftover for another meal for the two of us!

Yelp
One of my places whenever I'm in town! Little, unpretentious hole-in-the-wall take out and eat-in Indian place offering all the staple dishes we know and love. Food is delicious and fresh, got not complains there. A great option for a casual office lunch. Won't break the bank either. One thing, though, is that at lunch time it can get really busy, between people picking up orders, food delivery services, and people placing orders at the order. The line can stretch out. Go a bit early or a bit late.
google avatar

Irina N.

Yelp
I ordered on seamless because they have great deals. Delicious food! The driver was a little late but he apologized and was super nice. The food was still nice and warm. I got the aloo gobhi and the palak paneer. Heavenly for a vegetarian. Looking forward to trying more dishes!
google avatar

Uaena I.

Yelp
I love this place, it's absolutely the best. The food is affordable with a big portion size. One lamb biryani feeds 3 people (imo) and the taste is amazing. They are quick with their food (takeout) and I ordered so much (~10 things) for ~$60 (in this economy?? Hellooo?? So worthy) please give a try if you are into this cuisine!
google avatar

Leticia S.

Yelp
The food was good and well seasoned. They have a lot of vegan and vegetarian opinion. The service was ok. They were very busy with doordash and ubereats orders but he did answer a few of my questions. The ambiance was cold. There was just tables and chairs with music playing in the background.

Yelp
This review is for two more recent visits to Raavi. On one of the occasions I didn't take photos, but got palak paneer, which was a lot saltier than I expected. The second time, I got paneer korma, plain naan, and rose lassi, and also some of the free chai they provide. (You can add sugar to it; mine was not sweet at all since I didn't add sugar) The paneer korma was a lot spicier than I remembered it being the last time I had it. It was good, I just wish there were fewer chilies since I can't handle a high level of spice and this interfered with me being able to enjoy it as much. The naan was pretty good, it's more on the light side. The rose lassi was also nice, but if anything I wish the rose flavor was even stronger. Overall, food was good, and pretty much unbeatable prices since a lot of their entrees are still $10. The food came out really fast as well, probably not more than 5 minutes or so even though we ordered when we got there and it was around 12pm on a Saturday. They have bathrooms but it's tucked away in a basement down a flight of stairs, you can ask the staff for the door code.
google avatar

Yana I.

Yelp
The second and last time I am getting my food at Raavi. The last quality is descending. For example, paneers and daals are becoming so liquid, that you can hardly find cheese there. The same relates to Chicken Tikka Masala, almost no chicken, only sauce. Samosas are still edible. Also, aftertaste feeling is very heavy and not pleasant. I heard that this place used to be very good, niche and popular among fellow Indian food lovers. But now I would not recommend it.

Zill K.

Yelp
The goat curry is so salty that will make your kidney fail. Please take it out on your menu, it's so bad that your restaurant supposed to have a 5stars review if I just had your Butter chicken.
google avatar

Cary G.

Yelp
I order from here all the time on delivery apps. The food you get for the price is unbeatable in down town SF. My only qualm with this place is they won't let me ask for spicy masala on the app. I had it delivered to me one time by accident and it was 10x better than the regular. CONSIDER SPICY AS AN OPTION PLEASE!!!
google avatar

Trinity T.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for lunch! Their lunch thali includes 1-2 daal or one shaak, rice, naan, salad, and either the veggie or chicken entree. Bonus for having free chai!! Sometimes I order the chicken tikka masala or butter chicken to go because it's one of my favorite foods. It's a hole in the wall, but it's packed every weekday for its home-cooked food!
google avatar

Ananya M.

Yelp
okay loved this place! got take out from here and ordered a bunch of food -- garlic naan/ aloo stuffed paratha/daal and samosas! everything was so good and comforting! i'll definitely be ordering from here again! also portion sized are good
google avatar

Eric V.

Yelp
Great food and really affordable. Their lunch specials and daily specials especially!
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
I ordered a number of dishes via Uber Eats including four vegetarian dishes, okra, eggplant, Chana masala, and vegetarian biriani. They were all inedibly greasy, like all oil and spice no vegetables. I've never seen a biriani before that was swimming in oil. Just awful.
google avatar

Sriteja C.

Yelp
5 stars solely based on price. Don't expect top notch service and fine dining, but this was a really great experience considering the price. I believe this might be the cheapest Indian food in California (aside from mehfil potentially but Raavi is superior). The only complaint I have is all the tomato based curry's taste the same. Paneer tikka, paneer makhanwala, or matter paneer.... these all taste the same (ya I've been here 3 times and tried each!), so don't bother getting multiple curry's with the same base. But if you're on a budget and want Indian, Raavis is top notch.

Michael C.

Yelp
Ordered takeout. Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala tasted almost identical. Both were bland with and flavors more like an italian vodka sauce. The Chicken Vindaloo was incredibly bland and mild. There was very little spice compared to what was in expected for a vindaloo.
google avatar

Linda T.

Yelp
I learned about Raavi from a delivery service we use at work (Forkable). I ordered the lamb saag and didn't expect much because it's a work lunch. When I took a bite, I was instantly blown away by the spices and the tenderness of the lamb. I saved half of my work lunch to bring home to my husband knowing how much he loves a good lamb dish. He was equally impressed by the food. Since then I've order from them through delivery apps and then finally this past weekend we were able to visit the restaurant in person. I was thrilled! In addition to the lamb saag, we ordered the yellow daal, aloo tikki chaat, lamb biryani, garlic naan. Everything was top notch, delicious, yummy all the things! The restaurant was clean and offers free refillable chai. You order your food at the register and grab your own seat and utensils. It's no nonsense and everyone that works there is nice and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Raavi. Many of the Indian/Pakistani places in the TL have closed and Raavi's flavor holds up as one of my top picks in the city.
google avatar

Vivek S.

Yelp
This is a counter service restaurant. 70% dishes are non-vegetarian but they have good enough vegetarian selection. Food is more on the Nepalese Indian side. Prices are competitive and normal entrée is less than $15 and some of the veggie ones touch $10. Grab your own cutlery And food will be brought to your table. It's not a big place. Only 40 to 50 people can be accommodated. Must get real busy during lunch hour.
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Chai milk tea is complimentary and we sipped on a cup while waiting for our takeout order. Self-service and staff seems friendly. Dining is casual. They have the green sauce and provide it in your takeout order without me asking for it! Adorned! Goat curry was flavorful and tender! Chicken Tikka Masala was a bit dry on the chicken, but the curry made up for it. Lamb kebab - they sauced it up and was in pieces. I was expecting it with no sauce and more kebab form. It was ok. I would rather have opted for a lamb curry dish instead of the kebab if I knew that sauce was with the kebab. Goat curry was yummy! The meat was tender the curry was flavorful. Samosas were good. Naan and Basmati rice, complimented well with the curry. Reasonable prices and comfort food - especially when if it is a rainy or cloudy day!
google avatar

Hope D.

Yelp
It's a little hidden spot on Jackson with so much business. The lunch plates are super affordable! It's fast casual so you order and then find a seat. Their chai is the perfect beverage to pair with your meal. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. Both did not disappoint and they were even better mixed together. The bold flavors from the dishes were best eaten with the basmati rice and the cheese naan.
google avatar

Boyee C.

Yelp
I placed a big order online for pickup, then realized i needed more food. I called the restaurant and they were very helpful and were able to help add onto my order and i just paid for the rest of the food in person. Inside they also have free chai. :)
google avatar

Mansi A.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this place. I am their number one fan. The food quality for the price?? Honestly unbeatable in this city. I definitely order here almost once a week and it tastes great every time. One of the most affordable places to eat in SF!
google avatar

Priscilla L.

Yelp
Who knew Chinatown had an Indian restaurant here was a nice surprise. Free hot Indian chai tea was quite comforting and yummy. Appetizer Himalayan style chicken dumplings was quite yummy with the mild red spicy sauce. Our table- family style, butter chicken, Chana Masala Garbanzo beans cooked with spices was excellent, ALOO GOBHI Cauliflower and potatoes, garlic naan, rice and a shrimp dish. Great way to try different dishes. I like this Indian restaurant and will return when in the area to try a tandoori chicken.
google avatar

Yuki T.

Yelp
Good food and very chill place to hang with friends. I really enjoy eating the paneer makhanwala.
google avatar

Irvin B.

Yelp
The best and most authentic North Indian food. The restaurant itself is a little worn down but the focus is on the food. Service is always good. It's a real, traditional Indian restaurant.
google avatar

Charlie B.

Yelp
This place is a blessing. Inexpensive and delicious. Quick service. You order at a counter and don't have to tip but they serve the food to you sitting down. Restaurant is bright. It's not intimate and the walls are adorned with pictures of the food.

Taan S.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious! I highly Recommend this place. As someone with a lot of food sensitives, I felt great after eating here!
google avatar

remy m.

Yelp
The owner is welcoming and the food is consistently delicious. The tea is free and is great on these cold days.
google avatar

Agni A.

Yelp
Got takeout. Food was average and greasy. The food was coated in a layer oil. Could be tastier. It wasn't horrible but if you eat a lot of Indian food, you won't be satisfied. Will I order from here again ??? No
google avatar

Chloe S.

Yelp
YUMMMY!! Full of flavor and all the styles of Naan you could think of! However beware each entree doesn't come with an side of rice so make sure to order some if thats how you want to enjoy your curry! To start the samosas were some of the most flavorful ones I've tried. Curry and a bit spicy and packed with potatoes the filling was creamy and smooth while the exterior had a golden crisp. The highlight of our meal were the entrees, I ordered the fish curry while rest of the table tried the Butter Chicken. Everyone loved their dish and even took the leftovers togo! We tried the garlic and meat Naan which was crispy and fluffy making for a perfect vessel to hold and dip our curries. Will be back for more good eats!
google avatar

Rita A.

Yelp
I've never dined in here but I always get Uber eats from Thai place. The food is fantastic, the service is great, food is packed well and always steaming hot when it arrives. We are always happy and full. We love Indian food and this is definitely our to go place in sf. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Chanel D.

Yelp
My review from trying this place was operated by DoorDash. Let me start off by saying the service was such a quick delivery. The food was piping hot and tasted pretty good. The Butter chicken has a piece of grissle but overall the taste and texture was good. Ordered the plain rice, along with garlic naan. The garlic naan was a bit too burnt to my liking and it didn't even have a HINT of garlic but it was fresh and still edible. It was also my first time trying the mango lassi which was decent as well. Nothing to compare that to but I'd ordered it again probably just get plain naan the next time though. The upgrade was pointless. I would totally order here again and especially to my job via DoorDash.

Yelp
Food (5/5 stars): This hole in the wall Indian spot in SF is a hidden gem! Very reasonably priced, too Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: definitely more affordable than most Indian restaurants * Wait Time: no wait on a weeknight * Service: great and friendly * Ambiance: it's a standard spot with indoor seating
google avatar

Yelp
The food was great and all went well it was great awesome amazing nice love heart definitely come their
google avatar

Nevaeh S.

Yelp
So happy I got to try Raavi's. I've been craving Indian food all week and this fulfilled my craving. I got Chicken Tikka Masala, Mango Lassi, and Garlic Naan bread. The Chicken Tikka Masala was tender, had big pieces, and was mild not too spicy. The mango lassi is slightly sweet but not overbearing. The garlic naan was soft, warm, and made to perfection. Had a great lunch definitely recommend 5/5
google avatar

Maurice L.

Yelp
Everything was amazing best thing was the sun was also shining so we had enough time there. We would really believe you would like it.
google avatar

Soroosh P.

Yelp
This place is a good hole in the wall with a great lunch special at a reasonable price. The layout of the restaurant is unsuspectingly deep. While not the best Indian Pakistani in the bay that I've tried. It's a great spot for a reliable quick bite. I got the chicken curry lunch set and it hit the spot, with three mini mains, bread and a salad - I was really stuffed for $12- which in these days in sf is a steal. Also, I can really appreciate the complimentary chai- so make sure to take advantage.

Darshan M.

Yelp
One of the employee is very rude. Don't know how to talk with customer. He tried to argue with me for no reason I just asked him how long does it takes for my order.

Shardul M.

Yelp
Ordered chicken biryani and chicken tikka leg..the chicken "biryani" isn't actually biryani. It was chicken pulav. Greasy and extra unnecessary spices. I am an Indian and I know the difference between pulaav and biryani and this wasn't biryani. If this is biryani ,I wonder what pulaav is. I hope if the owner is reading this, please change the recipe or ur cook. Or don't sell pulaav in the name of biryani, because its bait and switch.
google avatar

Julian Y.

Yelp
Raavi has lots of selection, good prices, and they have a tea bar! I got the chicken tiki masala & paneer naan. They were both delicious and paired so well together. The tiki masala was creamy and the chicken was tender. I love how they both came out hot and it kept me really full for the whole day. After I ordered, I saw they had lunch specials Monday-Friday from 11am-2pm with really good prices! I will need to try that next time.
