We ordered two Italian paninis for 36$ total. Opened them 5 minutes later to find the sandwich ice cold. It was thrown on a grill top for maybe 30 seconds each site (as shown by the grill marks and grill spot on the sandwich). One sandwich had a hole in the bread and was soggy. Will definitely not be back here.

I'm really curious where all these good reviews are coming from, because I feel absolutely ripped off. No wonder this place is empty and closed half the time. I don't even understand how it's open. The curb appeal is excellent, and was part of the draw for me, but anything even remotely excellent stops as soon as you enter the place. Worst panini I've ever had. It was hardly toasted at all, the meat was cheap deli meat and was extremely small portion. And I don't expect a heaping serving of meat, but this was a joke. It was overloaded with lettuce. They have pasta dishes and chicken parmesan but there's no way they aren't making that stuff from frozen if you take a look at the place it's dead in there, it is very obvious they get little business and that is for a good reason. I should have known better than to try this place but I wanted something I haven't tried before in the neighborhood. I'm actually a bit upset about wasting a meal on this disaster of a place. They clearly don't give a slightest of a care about their product or customers. This place deserves to go out of business.

Was in town today & we stopped in for a sandwich. It was excellent! The guys here were very friendly & very knowledgeable about the neighborhood. We had a great conversation with them. Highly recommended if you are in the neighborhood. I marked it in my Google Maps because i plan on returning next time im close by.

Just ordered through Uber Eats. The sandwiches were fine, bread waa a little stale but its the end of the day so I can forgive that. The pizza was inedible. Now, Im not being cute and exaggerating; it was burnt top to bottom. Me and my wife each took one bite and spat it out, we're not breaking our teeth to eat this "pizza". Pics for posterity. Such a bad first experience.

Google
Wonderful tasting food. Ordered the Italian sandwich, veggie thin pizza and rice ball with meat. I would highly recommend all three items. I would have given 5 stars if it was a nice place to eat in. The food was definitely 5-stars. The eat in area could be improved. Very friendly staff and owners. We will pick up food more often!

Google
Went here for lunch and order a House salad which I’ve ordered before and this is what was given to me. Very unacceptable

Google
The atmosphere is like a pub where you run into old friends! The pizza itself is tasty and the folks behind the counter are very knowledgeable about it.

Google
They got a 💣 on the sub sandwichies . I been living in the area for about 4 years and finally check them out . I got a American Sub with Hot peppers , Oil & Vinegar and it was delicious 😋

Tanya K.

Yelp
Expensive! This is a very pricey deli. Cute atmosphere but too expensive for me. Recommend Alpine just a few minutes away for sandwiches that are about 40% cheaper.

Aubrey W.

Yelp
Something changed after the last 5 months. Not what it use to be. Sandwiches not as generous and lacking flavor.

Yelp
Came in today for lunch while nannying. I had chicken soup and a delicious turkey sub. The portions were huge and I had to take home left overs. The boy I nanny for had pizza and so many pieces came with one order. Everything was delicious and the owner was so attentive and kind. The ambiance is so cute and homey. I nanny in this neighborhood every Thursday and can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Ordered for uber eats delivery. Received only part of my order, with some things that seemed like incomplete sandwiches-a piece of cold sausage on bread, and bread with slices of cheese (which we did not order). The order was missing 2 sandwiches, pasta and pizza. I contacted the delivery driver and they said they were only given the one bag. I tried to call the restaurant, but they don't answer the phone. I left a message but haven't heard from anyone.

Yelp
I cannot stress the importance of making sure that your employees wash their hands before they begin to make your sandwiches. Kid was friendly but proceeded to blow into the glove in order to get his hand in it. Come on! We had a better experience when the owner made the sandwiches for us a few months prior, he actually came in and proceeded to wash his hands before he started on our sandwiches. It's a matter of visual and wanting to eat the food after its prepared. Overall, the food is good, but please make sure the young employees understand that washing their hands is a must.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood spot, love their Italian sub and my sandwich was ready super fast! Friendly staff too

Tishawn W.

Yelp
I had the Vinny's special light sauce light dipped hot peppers it's homemade & the meatballs are just rite. It's not your Portillo's commercial style Italian beef... this authentic I give it a 8 1/2 - 9

Joshua N.

Yelp
Took quite a while for Rachel's to open, and so far the wait seems to be worth it. The sandwiches are authentic Italian through and through and I like the side dishes as well. I wish the menu was a bit broader though. And the pizza slices are really nothing special. I appreciate that Rachel's is a new business without video gaming - a real problem in Berwyn these days. If they make it, I predict Rachel's will have a bright future keeping the Italian tradition alive on Roosevelt Road. But some menu innovation will be needed.

Dino D.

Yelp
Went in about 3pm the place was not busy at the time. I ordered a 9in Italian Sub because what else do you order at a Italian deli? Bread had a soft crunch and the ingredients were fresh and plentiful. This place gives you that Little Italy/Taylor Street feel with a food quality to match. I attached photos of the sandwich and menu

Peter E.

Yelp
Recently tried Rachel's and we loved it so much we ordered from them again the following day. Honestly hands down one of the best! We usually drive to the city or other suburbs for something good. I'm so glad we now have somewhere local to go.

Jay F.

Yelp
Originally, a few months ago, all was well. Today, the 9 inch vegetable sandwich came without 2 of the 5 ingredients, so I phoned, and was told the shop was out of the ingredients. Someone may want to run over to Jewel.... AND the sandwich came as a panini, not on 9 inch sub bread...also the advertised ham off the bone for the 2nd sandwich order placed, is lunchmeat, clearly packaged lunchmeat. No one is cooking a ham over there and slicing meat for a sandwich. False advertising. If you are serving ham off the bone LUNCHMEAT, YOU SHOULD ADVERTISE AS SUCH. When you are out of an ingredient, phone the person who placed the order and explain you cannot make that sandwich. Do not surprise people and throw what you have in the sandwich and hope they don't notice. Very poor customer service. Will not order again!

Ruben B.

Yelp
This is a very interesting place. Very Chicago, very local. Me and my family stoped here for a bite before a city tour. Pizza and subs, what else do you need? haha. The service is fast so you better have your order ready. I get a meatball sub and it was amazing. My girls order pizza and they love it. If you are in this area and want a fast but great bite stop here. Im sure you will love it.

Sunshine N.

Yelp
SUPER GOOD. Tiramisu is the absolute show stopper I have not had tiramisu like that in a very long time. Man gave us a discount for being in uniform which was very nice of him. And meatball sandwich oh my god so good

Caroline W.

Yelp
After watching this place sit there on Roosevelt forever with a 'opening soon' sign, this place is FINALLY open. Today I ordered a slice of sausage pizza, which also comes with a pop $5.50. Good deal. The pizza was very flavorful and the crust is quite thin, flatbread like, with a good crunch. The lady who took my order was pleasant and I think the owner was there, he thanked me for my business. I will definitely be back to try a sandwich.

John R.

Yelp
Ate here a couple of days ago with my girlfriend. I had a turkey sub which was great and she had a veggie sub. Bread was fresh as well as the ingredients on the sandwich! I got a slice of sausage pizza to go because it looked so good and it did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This restaurant charges a checkout fee! I have never paid a fee to buy lunch in person. I could understand a delivery fee but to charge a fee to make a purchase is not a good business practice. If they are charging a fee in addition to their menu prices, they should definitely disclose the charge. Turkey panini was ok. I expected the meat to be better from a deli.

Dina D.

Yelp
Best veggie sandwich around!!!! Hands down! I struggled to find a good veggie sandwich let alone a fantastic one! Rachel's knows how to get it done. The veggies are not your typical veggies to start. We're talking marinated eggplant, artichoke hearts and roasted red peppers in addition to mozzarella cheese. WOW!!! Now, that's a veggie sandwich! On the best Italian bread around !!! Yum. They also do a panini sandwich which is served hot and gooey (if that is a word). Pizza is no joke. My BF can't get enough of the pizza and it's a sweet deal. Two nice "slices" and a can of Coke or a drink of your choice for $5 is their lunch special currently. Right now due to Covid-19, there are restrictions, outside patio dining only. Great neighborhood gem! Check it out even if you're not in the neighborhood. Make it a priority! Rachel's is worth it!!!

Robert S.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches. Great staff. I will recommend the spot to anyone who lives in the area. I can't wait to try more of their food. Thank you very much guys, you've got a customer for life!

oscar r.

Yelp
Top notch place with old school neighborhood joint feeling and customer service. Subs, pizza, and pasta salads are great! Also reasonable prices. Highly recommend

Daniela R.

Yelp
Rachel's Cafe and Deli has friendly service and an atmosphere of authenticity. Their food is fresh and really good. I had the pasta salad and eggplant sub and was satisfied with both. My husband had the chicken panini and said the chicken was dry.

Yesenia S.

Yelp
Delicious, hearty sandwiches. Fresh and crispy fixings. Very clean kitchen, clean space, friendly staff. Great place to catch up with friends or chill with the family. Order the sandwich meal and the tiramisu.

Alan N.

Yelp
Rachel's is new to the neighborhood Pretty good for my first visit Good food nice staff awesome prices

Eater C.

Yelp
Seems like a few made men where enjoying a meal when I entered Sandwiches not very good at all I tired the veggie hated it turkey hated it and the tuna was only ok maybe I expected to much from this place

Jon H.

Yelp
I had a chance to go here while doing laundry down the street with my girl. We had ordered the square slice pan pizza with a can of pop and a 6-inch Italian beef. Sadly, to say the only thing I liked was the soda. The pan slice pizza was most the disappointing. It literally tastes like old cafeteria pizza at your high school. The pizza itself was cold and stale. They don't reheat it for you in the oven. It's just dumped under a heat lamp for god knows how long. The Italian beef was okay, but bread was also stale. I'll just be heading back to Freddy's for a slice of pizza or Portillos for a beef for now on.

Yelp
Meh, nothing spectacular. After months of waiting for it to open, then finally finding a parking spot, today was the day. Ordered the "Italian" sub. If this place can't get this sandwhich right then they should be forced to strip the little tables of the little Italian flags. The dressing, tomatoes, lettuce, giardiniera, meats and cheese were great. I have one gripe about the sandwich. It was difficult to eat magnified by stale bread. With Turanos up the street and Damatos delivering every morning to every other restaurant in the county, the bread should be the highlight. This was likely day old bread, maybe day and a half old bread. Too tough, too dry, and with each bite it broke dropping the middle contents. Dousing it in dressing helped, but a clear mask on their part to hide crappy product. If they are already cutting corners with the bread they won't be open long. Since I was the only one there at lunch-time, aside for the guys that seem to be "on the payroll", it looks like the end is near. This place won't see 2020. The non-food gripe is the "tipping" at the cash register. Maybe it is a standard feature built into POS systems and the card reader, but this isn't a tipping position. The cashier isn't renting the cashier and working for tips. They are not making drinks like a bartender and keeping you in the bar stool with their whitty personality. I don't tip the cashier at Kohls, or Subway, or MCDonalds, so why here? She didn't even make the sandwich. If you want a GREAT Italian sub go to Alpine on North Ave.

Danee M.

Yelp
I thought this was a great place Nice deli and really good food . The Italian sub was great bread was really good maybe I'd order extra sauce next time and my husband liked the turkey sub as well but was a bit dry so extra condiments next time The bakery pizza was perfect as were the rice balls . This was my first time ordering from them and definitely will again soon! Nice to have a "old time" deli around

Amy G.

Yelp
Great find! Had a sausage pizza slice which came w/a soda for $5 - slice was delicious- much better than Salerno's or DeNico's = crispy crust; boyfriend had the meatball/beef sandwich- lots of food and delicious all the way around- we will be back! Everything looked good on the menu! Service was personable and great prices ... We've been back three more times ... food is consistent and service is friendly

Mark O.

Yelp
Had the focaccia sub. A little different from what you get everywhere else. Very tasty. Great add to the neighborhood.

Andrea W.

Yelp
I loveeeee their sandwiches! Always so nice and smiling when I come in! The American is my favorite but the Italian is just as good. Great place for lunch

Jenny P.

Yelp
Good stuff here. Everything was delicious. A definite must try. I know I'll be craving that soup next chilly day.

Kathy G.

Yelp
This place started out ok, but has, in my opinion, gone downhill quickly. My first order from there about 6 months ago was great, although at the time the delivery fee was way high. Second time I ordered, sandwich was a mess and took forever to get delivered (seemed like they didn't care) So, I thought last friday that I would give them another chance and boy, this is the last time I will order from here. The bread was so hard and stale that I could cut meat with it, dry even tho I asked for extra mayo and overall just a mess. Not sure what's going on there, but never again

SandWill S.

Yelp
The food here is good and so are the prices. I had a turkey sub and a chicken panini it was very good. Service is fast, but the girl cashier in the evenings is IFFY with her customer service sometimes, not the best. The place is always nice and clean. But if you eat outside by the patio tables OMG! people who pass by having a freakin staring problem and are so freakin nosy WOW!! Bunch of WEIRDOS!! LOL other than that its a cool place.

Claudia D.

Yelp
Great Italian sandwiches! I have been waiting on a place like this nearby. Vinny the owner is so friendly! I definitely recommend this place.

Ingo S.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this place. I wanted to get a gift certificate for a friend who goes here often. After receiving a run around and going back 5 times to get it, I was finally told that they didn't care about issuing a gift certificate. If they don't care about new customers, they probably won't care much about any other concerns. I will avoid this place in the future. Too bad.

Denise M.

Yelp
Last night, I was unfortunately quite disappointed as a Rachel's Cafe and Deli Customer. Despite excitedly looking forward to the opening of this new restaurant, sadly I did not feel welcomed. Instead, I was made to feel quite uncomfortable. What appeared to be 5-6 staff members sitting at two tables engaged in a robust conversation (dressed in uniformed black shirts) simultaneously ceased in their conversation and in unison turned around and looked at me upon entry as if they had seen a ghost. I gave a strong, confident, friendly, "Hello." No response from said group. Not even a smize or fake, "Hi! Can we help you?" The woman staff (who was sitting at one of the tables) even had the audacity to assume that I was pregnant and experiencing a craving as justification of why I was making a food purchase. SMH. Not sure what the response towards me was about, but surely as a non-threatening African-American woman walking in alone as a new customer to patronize a business after a long hard day of working could not have provoked such a response.....right? I hope not, but no worries I will not be returning.

Phillip R.

Yelp
Not exaggerating when I say, best sub I've had in a while. The people who work there are great and welcoming too.

Joe A.

Yelp
I go to Rachel's at least once a week, great place, great staff and awesome sandwiches, last night it was pouring rain when I got there there was a gentleman walked in he was soaked from head to toe. His order was like $7.70. He only had $7.00, the girl behind the counter told him don't worry about it, I will cover you. Most places won't do it, but they did

Mary C.

Yelp
Classic Italian deli fare that's tasty and reasonably priced. So far we've tried the Italian and veggie subs, cheese pizza, and pasta salad. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. It's great to have this business in the neighborhood.

Emile W.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to eat lunch during the work week. The food is great, the people are great, the conversation is great.. The meatball sub with hot giardiniera!!! No words to describe.

Janet K.

Yelp
The best Italian authentic Cafe and Deli in Berwyn. I think I have tried just about everything .I definitely have no complaints. And they also keep trying new stuff. Ever since they open I really do eat a lot from there the prices are great here you get a lot for your money the boy that makes the sandwiches is great. The hostess that works during the day. Very nice person .it's just what we need in Berwyn

Lawrence J.

Yelp
Order a Italian beef dip with hot pepper it was very tasteful and my friend had a slice of pizza i will be back.

Coley O.

Yelp
Very nice staff, big portions! Minestrone, pasta salad and Italian beef were all delicious!
