Portland’s Exciting New Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants | Eater Portland

"Last fall, Rad Burger announced its launch on Instagram with ‘90s throwbacks and hefty burgers superimposed on neon backdrops. This burger concept comes from Aviv’s Tal Caspi and operates out of the vegan Middle Eastern restaurant’s Pearl and Killingsworth locations. Available as a single or double, the juicy Impossible burger patties, sandwiched between vegan cheese slices and served with classic toppings, come shockingly close its animal-based counterparts. For over-the-top specials like the Pizza Boiga, keep an eye on Instagram. Rad Burger is open for pickup, delivery, and outdoor seating." - Waz Wu

Google
Solid 3/5 stars! I ordered from RAD Burger through Uber Eats, and the pickup process was smooth and on time—no complaints there. As for the food, I tried the Bacon Truffle Burger, and while it was decent, it wasn’t exactly "RAD." The burger itself reminded me a lot of Wendy’s Baconator, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I was expecting something more unique. The truffle sauce was very subtle—almost to the point where it barely made a difference in the flavor. The bacon was very thin and not crispy, and the patty was well-cooked, but overall, it didn’t stand out as anything special. As for the fries, they tasted just like your standard fast-food fries—nothing special. If you’re looking for a solid, no-frills burger and fries, this might work for you. But if you’re expecting a bold truffle experience, you might be left wanting more.

Google
Burgers are tasty- try a lettuce wrapped. Don’t miss out on the crispy onion rings.

Google
Best burgers around. The meat is super juicy. Fries are awesome. We have to split one every time we go. If you’re hungry, you can finish the whole thing. We’ve been to most places in Liberty Station, and this place, and the empanada place Paraná are the best.

Google
Best burger in town!! Or at least needs to be in that conversation! Had the Bacon Truffle Burger, 1/2 fries 1/2 onion rings with an Orangesicle Ice Cream Shake! Burger was amazing and that shake was unbelievable! It’s weird how much it tastes like the Ice cream and will definitely go back again. Would recommend to friends and family. Only problem is deciding to try the Dr. Pepper shake or Orangesicle again.

Google
Bacon Truffle Burger was worth it. You can tell they have a niche. Fry’s were good but nothing to write mom about. Our order took about 15 minutes and it did not disappoint. I would take friends and family there again.👍🏽

Google
As a vegetarian and recent keto it is getting harder to find tasty and healthy food outside. Luckily you can get plant-based burger here and substitute buns with lettuce. It tastes delicious 😋😋😋. They flatten the patty so when it is cooked it is slightly crunchy. This would be my go-to veggie burger if I am in the area.

Google
Decent smash burger! Yummy fries and onion rings. Got the truffle burger but couldn’t taste the truffle at all, burger was still good though!

Google
Crowded and difficult to find seating. They forgot the root beer float we ordered, but the food was pretty good and came out sooner than they said it would.

Yelp
Went here on a busy Saturday and ordered a truffle bacon burger with rad sauce. I ordered this on door dash and went to pick it up. Door dash said it would be about 20min to be ready but it actually took almost 30min. The burger was super good. It was delicious. The bun was very soft and fluffy, it came with 2 smashed patties, lettuce, tomato, rad sauce which tasted like a garlic sauce and grilled onions. It was about $13 without any sides. Great spot and I'll definitely come back for another burger.

Yelp
My boyfriend got the classic burger and was really impressed with it! He loved the bun, flavor of the meat, and portion size. For liberty station this is definitely on the more affordable side too! Service was good and food came out quick. It's a quick place to grab a bite and find a table at the market to sit and eat at.

Yelp
This is the one place I go when I'm at liberty station. There are lots of burger choices in Libery station but time this has got to be the best! Best burger happy hour to try! 2-5 pm I love rad burger because it is so fresh and something about their aioli sauce just makes this burger epic to me. The service is pretty fast. So if you're waiting they will text you when your order is ready. Even though the ambiance is in this food hall, it makes it a great item for take away and eat at home or for a lovely picnic in liberty station.

Yelp
I got the cali burger. Holy crap that was awesome! It was big and messy so good. The food came out quick and hot. One of the best burgers I have had great job.

Yelp
Excellent Burger and service Ambiance: A buddy of mine to the food market for lunch and we came across RAD Burger. It's located in Liberty station food market which is a great hub for different varieties of food and drinks to where you can enjoy yourself. I'll be honest it wasn't our first choice, but the advertisement of how good the burger looked grabbed our attention, and here I am in writing this review. Parking: Similar to the Lobster review that I've done, it's slim pickings up at the front, unless you arrive prior to the place opening which is around 11 am. If you can't find parking up front then there's plenty of parking on the street and other lots close by. Service: There was one gentleman serving us and he was patient with us due to it being our first time here. There were some hiccups but I'll mention that towards the end of my review. He gave recommendations on what dessert to try and burgers included. I went for the RAD Burger with fries. While my buddy ordered something similar to that. With him being the only one there, he went to the back and we were able to see him prepare our meals which I enjoy watching (because you never know sometimes). Everything that was made was fresh off the grill or the fryer. Food: I ordered the meal for takeout and my job is roughly 15 minutes away. For the burger to be warm and juicy really speaks LEVELS to me. The fries were also good, but due to the hot weather and A/C blasting in the car I wasn't able to eat them at their full potential but that's more on me than anything else. I won't be faulting or taking anything off for the fries. Each bite was delicious and I ended up getting upset due to there wasn't any of my burger left. I guess there's a good upset? Either way, it was delicious and I'll definitely be returning for the same thing or maybe even something else. HICCUP: The worker informed my buddy and me that their fountain drink machine was broken, there was some ice cream missing too and they couldn't do certain desserts like the dreamsicle if I'm not mistaken. The worker did apologize for that and my buddy was patient with them and understood. He did order a shake, not sure what it was though. I enjoyed the meal and I know that I would've enjoyed it more if I had it fresh with dining in. I'll be returning without a doubt! Maybe the fountain machine being down was a sign that I needed to drink more water anyway :) 5/5

Yelp
Rad Cali Burger was delicious! I loved the flavor and that it was good sized. I didn't do a combo so I can't speak to the sides. I thought it was simple and quick but wasn't lacking.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
There was barely any sauce in this burger. Just a bit at the very top edge. The rest of the burger was so dry and lacking flavor. Didn't get much of the truffle flavor either. Super disappointing.
google avatar

Lemmor P.

Yelp
Everthing you could ever want in an authentic San Diego smash burger. You've got to get the double to maximize the experience. These are not messy greasy...rather, I would describe as juicy loveliness. Try with the truffle sauce on the side and use sparingly with both your fries and your burger. There are so many awesome choices here, Rad Burger will not disappoint for sure!
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Ordered the Parmesan fries. Likely frozen fries smothered in mayonnaise, topped with a heavy layer of cold, thickly cur Parmesan cheese. It was bad. I gave it back.

Robbie C.

Yelp
$30+ kids hotdog and a burger with Fries not including the 20% tip. Everything was just ok... What frustrated me was they will not provide you with a kids water cup. The cashier claims they count every cup. I wanted to say, I am sure my $6 tip will cover the cup... I won't be back.

Yelp
Liberty Public Market has seen several burger vendors cycle through this particular stall. RAD Burger is the latest business to set up shop here. Four burgers, two veggie burgers, three breakfast sandwiches, french fries, onion rings, shakes, and malts made up the menu. After you place an order at the service counter, they ask for your phone number so that a text message can be sent when your food is ready for pick-up. I chose the most expensive item which was a double Totally Cali Burger. Two smashed patties, American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, RAD (cooked) onions, and RAD sauce were the components. About 15 minutes later, a text arrived saying that my burger was ready. The hamburger meat was overcooked for my taste which meant it wasn't as juicy as I had hoped. In hindsight, less would have been more because I think too many ingredients didn't enhance the product. For price and quality, I rated RAD Burger between three and four stars.

Yelp
The burgers are 5 stars. I'm a sucker for a good classic burger, and I really enjoyed their burgers. However, unfortunately, I give the service 2 stars. At first, everything was fine. We ordered our burgers, and the girl behind the counter was very nice. They asked for a name for the order, and we gave them one. It was a bit crowded in that area, so we walked away for a few minutes and came back to check if the order was ready. Right as we walked up to the front, the girl handed us a bag, saying that this was our order. It didn't have a name, but we didn't think much of it. We went outside to eat, and as we took all the food out, we realized that they had given us the wrong order. We didn't wanna make a big deal, and considering that they will toss the food, if we take it back, we just ate it. About 20 minutes later, as we were leaving, one of the girls came up to my husband apologizing saying that they got our order wrong and handed us a bag saying that this is our order and walked away. At that point, we thought that it was funny. The bag again didn't have a name, but it had restrictions of no tomato and onion, which we didn't ask for, so that means that this wasn't our order either. So, at that point, they had messed up at least 3 people's orders, and it would've all been prevented if they paid attention and added the name that they asked for to the order.

Yelp
Yuck we ordered the rad burger and fries/ onion rings combo. #1 we only got onion rings, but they corrected it after they looked it up. They didn't just take our word. #2 the menu says that the rad burger has 2 patties and we only had one. I was too tired to say anything. The defense for them the store was packed. They had one person ringing up, making drinks, making shakes, bagging the food. One person was cooking.‍. The onion rings were blah I would not go back.
google avatar

Tanvi S.

Yelp
They got my order wrong so I waited there watching them re-make it. One staff was diligent about washing hands and wearing gloves the other (who was also a cashier so touching the ipad and everyones credit cards) was cooking without any gloves on. So touching the buns, lettuce etc. Kinda gross! Food was also okay....onion rings were good but fries were oily and soggy, the burger was mediocre. Def not eating here again!

Yelp
RAD burger was an overall good meal. We ordered the rad burger and the truffle burger. They are Pattie's compared to big and juicy burgers - just know the style you are getting. The regular burger had good flavor and the rad sauce was really good, it was comparable to a garlic aioli. The truffle burger had a lot of truffle flavor and was definitely heavier than the regular. The fries were good and salty. The onion rings were crispy and added some texture to the rest of the meal. I also had a strawberry shake that was good but nothing special. A good spot in the food hall that definitely has some tough competition around it.

Yelp
Quick service for tasty food (they said they'd text me when my food is ready; they estimated 5 minutes and it was just about that)! Had the veggin' out veggie burger, no sides. 'Twas about 10 bucks. Decent size. After a long day at the beach, I'd say I was left satisfied, not full. For the price, would have liked a side of small fries. But it was yummy and made my stomach happy!
google avatar

Evelyn B.

Yelp
Food is overpriced & nothing special.. service was not friendly at all. Won't be coming back. Food sat on the counter fir a while before my name was called, so it was also cold.
google avatar

R.G. R.

Yelp
Quite possibly the worst hamburger I've ever had in my life. Tasteless. There is nothing "rad" about their rad sauce. I gave them two stars because the fries were good and the prices were reasonable.
google avatar

JL S.

Yelp
Boo! Now they've killed both of their happy hour specials. Back to 5 Guys I go. No more price advantage.

Broderick B.

Yelp
Excellent veggie burger is excellent. Best in San diego. Service is always quick. Food always hot. Taste is unmatched
google avatar

Chelsea M.

Yelp
It's always a coin toss at liberty station because you never know if places are actually going to be good or not. I picked this place because they had a beyond patty option so I got the jalepeno Swiss with the beyond meat. Actually exceeded my expectations! Loved it.
google avatar

Kha H.

Yelp
Rad burger is up there with the best burgers in SD. I've been to practically all of the "best" burger joints around the county and was really impressed by how delicious their Totally Cali Burger was. If you like a smashed patty, definitely give them a try. The fries and onion rings were a great complement. They were nice and crispy.
google avatar

Callista F.

Yelp
The burger was super tasty. For being a Sunday I would have expected a long wait but within 10 minutes we got our order. The workers were nice. We'd come back another time.

Mason O.

Yelp
This place is super slept on, I really do not understand the low reviews. I've been a few times now and evey time it is surprisingly excellent; definitely up there as one of the better burgers in the city. My recommendation is the Cali burger. I'm not personally a fan of guac on a burger but they do it very well. Definitely give it a try if you're in liberty station, you will not be disappointeded.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
This place was good for a fast burger. Their fries are delicious and the staff is very friendly.

Christopher T.

Yelp
RAD burger or BAD burger? Overpriced burger. It was small and the fries were soggy. I gave this place a tip and to not even get serviced at a table. They texted me it was done and had my food waiting on the counter for 10 minutes, by then my food was cold. I looked inside the bag and the plastic packages for condiments were inside my fries, how nasty. The employees seem disinterested in working there. I received my drink first and they forgot to give me a straw, which I had to grab mysef, due to them being inattentive. The lowest standards possible and paying the high prices. I've eaten at high end restaurants and payed the same amount for burgers. This place is trash.

Yelp
The service was horrible. The cashier showed how much he hated his job. Wouldn't speak up even after multiple attempts with telling him we couldn't hear him. Same level of voice each time. I just wished we had walked away then. But I'm soft spoken as well except when some says I couldn't hear you. Okay enough ranting on that. We specifically said. No mayo. He told us they didn't come with mayo. He could have warned us that there was a sauce on them. But he didn't. And this sauce tasted very much like mayo and looked like mayo. When my husband who doesn't like mayo at all took it back he said that's not mayo. Said it was some other kind of sauce. Couldn't hear what he said but this looks, tastes and smells exactly like mayo or some type of mayo based sauce. But to be honest looked like mayo straight out of the jar. Anyway the truffle fries I ordered had another mayo based sauce all over them. Yuk. Not only that but the fries were so greasy and soggy. The final nail in the coffin was that they didn't text us when the order was ready. So I thought maybe that's why food was cold. But don't think those fries were ever cooked right. The regular ones were soggy as well. Anyway all around bad experience and won't be back. I would sometimes return for a second try if I didn't like something I ordered and try something different and explicitly say no sauce at all. But with the customer service and paying for such expensive burgers and fries we couldn't eat. I'll take it as an almost $50 lesson and never do that again.

Yelp
Located within Liberty Public Market. Looking for 80s throwback decor and a classic housemade burger?! This is it. I got a single Cali burger, fries and a strawberry milkshake. Portioned to fill you up! Tip: they also sell hot dogs.

Janay R.

Yelp
Will not be going back. The service wasn't friendly, which should have been my first sign to take my money elsewhere. I ordered the RAD burger with fries and purchased an order of 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings. When I received my food the fries were over cooked. The order of 1/2 and 1/2 were over cooked and there was only 5 fries in that basket. The Pattie's from the burger tasted like they haven't cleaned the flat top in months. How hard is it to mess up burgers, fries, and onion rings? Please don't visit, you can find better food in the market.
google avatar

Shell S.

Yelp
I'm going to go ahead and say skip this place. I waited over 40 minutes for my truffle burger to have the cashier apologize and say he must have incorrectly took my number down, but I then received a text it was ready about 10 minutes later, which means it's their system. I feel like because it was a former military base, cell service isn't that great so maybe it could have been that (even though we were connected to the WiFi). However, the real gripe is the fact it was $20 for a burger, fries and soda and the sprite was the best part. It lacked any sort of flavor, their wasn't a trace of truffle in sight and the meat was SCREAMING for some salt and pepper. truffle oil is something that undoubtedly cannot be missed so I'm wondering if they were either out, gave me the wrong burger, or it was a mistake. Either way, skip.

Samantha M.

Yelp
DISAPPOINTING ASF literally borderline 10 bucks for a hunk of what tasted like mayo and stale chunky parm. didn't even eat it such a waste. flavor wasn't it. i mean cmon at least act like or give some effort. never again.

Alex M.

Yelp
Service is consistently slow. Workers aren't friendly. Regularly closed before the listed time. Not sure why we have returned here, so with this last rude visit, we are done.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered a Rad burger and fries and was initially charged $14.98 (Burger 9.95 + .77 tax = 10.72. Fries 3.95 + .31 tax = 4.26) on 4/19/22. My special needs nephew enjoyed the burger. The fries however were HORRIBLE...very LIMP and not crispy. The cook offered to cook the fries more crispier. What a joke. We asked to get a refund on the fries and assured it would happen. When I checked my credit card statement, it showed a charge of $12.72. Not sure who did the math, but I should have only been charged $10.72. Looking for my other $2.00 credit!!!

Yelp
We had bought the righteous burger which sounded amazing. I bought the burger for my wife who doesn't particularly like tomatoes, onions and bacon in her burgers. I asked for these toppings to be placed on the side if that was ok. The gentleman at the register asked who I assumed was the cook if it was ok to have the 3 items separate from the burger. He stated that it was no problem. With our burger being chosen, I opted to have our meal be a combo with fries and a drink. While waiting for our order I noticed the person in front of me having to remind the same gentleman at the register about the included drink, no big deal. However, once it was my turn to pick up, I also had to remind him I ordered a drink. It's not really a big deal to me if a restaurant can't make adjustments or customize orders, but this place said they would. My order had all the ingredients I asked not to be in the burger. Not one consideration for the order I placed. If you don't want to allow for customizations for whatever reason, fine with me, it's your establishment. But don't tell me it's ok then just ignore it all. The burger was made well and the ingredients worked together. The fries were a bit undercooked but still ok. The man at the register was nice and polite. I would recommend this place if the service was more up to par, but since it's not I would spend $16 on a better experience elsewhere.

Bob S.

Yelp
The rad burger was good sized and the patty was well seasoned. We like the crispy edges on the meat. I love garlic so the garlic aioli was delicious. That said, there was only one leaf of lettuce and it was soggy from the aioli. There were also a bunch of thick pieces of raw onion that overpowered the rest of the burger. If there was tomato it was so thin we couldn't taste it.

Yelp
Tried the basic rad burger and it was pretty good ! The fries were decent ! And my Wife liked the onion rings!

Julian F.

Yelp
They let multiple people cut in front of me and order before me even thought they saw that I was in line! Food is good though but horrible experience.

Yelp
This place was actually pretty dang good. My only complaint was the wait time but other than that it's great food.

Yelp
At Liberty Station is an indoor Market full of amazing foods and Art galleries. This yummy American food place called The Rad Burgers is on one point. It's tasty and great employees one of them greets us with humor named Jacob. A funny guy so, head over there and try it.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Great burger. Staff was friendly and food was delicious! I recommend getting the combo meal for $5 more

Steve B.

Yelp
It was a busy Sunday but still ... burgers were burned, fries were soggy. Very disappointing.

Dee A.

Yelp
Was craving a burger and it was delicious. Very tasty. I really liked the bun with the burger and I love skinny fries !
google avatar

Yelp
Best burger I've ever had! Hands down. The 2x RAD burger was juicy and full of flavor. The shake was a little thick for my liking tho

Kyle R.

Yelp
Just crushed one of the RAD burgers and a friend had the Righteous burger that met the same fate. Don't skimp! Get the double patty its worth every bite and get the RAD sauce for your fries. Great portions and friendly service!

Yelp
Amazing dining experience over at Rad ... went with a triple bodacious burger. So delicious!!...customer service was on point !! Thanks to Lex for having a great attitude and sense of humor while taking my order... To the manager of this store ... give that young man Lex a raise!!

Angelina M.

Yelp
I came with my lola and when she was trying to pay with cash the cashier told us "it's card only" so we paid with card. when I got the text the food was ready I went and waited because she was helping another customer that paid with cash, I saw her take the cash, and gave the customers their change... but why did she tell us they're card only.. when I saw her take their cash and not ours I couldn't help but feel it was from discrimination as my lola has tanner skin. I was so mad but still didn't confront her, I didn't like the feeling the experience left me, won't come here again. Food was okay, just a plain burger anywhere else could make, fries were not good. Do better

Sam S.

Yelp
Disrespectful employees, and unsanitary workplace. We ordered our food and while waiting we watched the staff. First, the chef had his mask only on his mouth and his nose was sticking out. The girl that was at the register took our order and left, and her shift was replaced by a man. He got to Regis without washing his hands. After the customers ordered he got the case of water bottles for their Oder. Then when our bag of food was put out by the chef, the same guy at the register, again, without washing his hands nor putting on gloves put his hand in the bag. Then he came and confirmed our order. The bag was missing the fries, so he went to the basket of fries, first he put his hands in the bowl of salt to season the fries, with his unwashed hands, then he grabbed a handful of them threw them in the bag. At that point we changed our minds about eating that food. He came to hand us the bag. We didn't accept the food and we told him it's not acceptable to touch the register, handle customer's cards, touch the case of water and put his hands in the food. He got upset. He went back to the kitchen, for 10 seconds and came back. Which his hands were wet. He called the next group of customers, and ignored us. We waited a few minutes and reminded him again that we want our order to be canceled. He mumbled something and walked out of the register. A few minutes later he came back with another guy, whom he asked us what our order was and we explained that specially with Covid it's not acceptable to touch everything and the food. He replied "he has washed his hands". Meanwhile, we saw the the first guy went to the chef and said something and the chef put on gloves. No apologies were given, instead we got quite a bit of attitude, until the transaction was canceled.

Yelp
I ordered a burger. Burger very small. Got food poisoning that night. Counter guy very rude. Have told my family and friends not to go there. Hopefully they pass it along quickly
