We went for brunch on New Year’s Day. The food was delicious, unfortunately the service and pace of dishes was not their best. Our server was new, shy, or had lost her voice (or a combination of all three), and the menu was new, so there was confusion right from the start.
We chose the all you can eat/bottomless drinks option. We tried to order things dim sum style, two dishes each at a time but were told we could only order one at a time each. Because of that, there was a huge lag time between finishing one plate and having our order taken for the next plate, which led to more time taken. And during this our drinks remained empty after finishing our first. We had to speak to the supervisor to get refills and she ended up giving us a carafe. If we’d wanted different drinks, we’d never have gotten what felt like a bottomless brunch experience.
It’s a Kimpton hotel eatery, so it’s adorable, just pace yourself as the bathrooms are a small walk away. It was meant to be an 80s themed brunch, but the music didn’t really stay on theme, and the food/drink wasn’t themed at all.
We probably won’t be back for brunch again, The all you can eat option would work better as a tasting menu, offering the dishes in sequence and then anything you’d like to revisit. That would probably help the pace of service so there’s no waiting between small plates. During our visit, we spoke to a supervisor and another unsatisfied table spoke to a manager, so if this is a try at something new, they still have a few things to work out.
