Went to Radio Milano last night for a Yelp event and stayed afterward for dinner. First off, the restaurant is beautiful. There is a downstairs bar area with an outdoor patio. There is a set of stairs by the entrance to take you to the main dining area.
We were seated promptly in a booth, which was very comfortable. Our server was polite but noticeably inexperienced. He kept asking us if we wanted to order drinks, even though we both had brought drinks from downstairs. He asked us several times, which I found to be off-putting.
To start, you are offered house made ciabatta with olives baked inside, served with olive oil. Even though I don't like olives, I really enjoyed the bread.
I tried the following dishes:
Beet Ribbons (3.5/5) - Julienned beets with Texas goat cheese, arugula, and walnuts. The goat cheese, walnuts, and arugula were wonderful, and the dressing was light and fresh. However, the beets were quite dry, much drier than I like beets to be. They tasted almost dehydrated, which I didn't like. Given that this dish was centered around the beets, I expected them to be at the same quality as the other ingredients, but I felt like they were not. Overall, the dish wasn't bad.
Tuna Crudo (2.5/5) - Tuna with avocado, horseradish, and ginger. This dish was really meh, very standard raw tuna dish without much creativity. The tuna was fine quality, but the flavors in this dish were not interesting. I would not order this again.
Uni Tagliatelle (3/5) - Uni cream, lobster, and pane fritto. I had the half order, which was plenty. The pasta itself was cooked slightly al dente, which suited the sauce well. There was ample lobster on top of the pasta, and it was very good. If I had to summarize this dish in one word: cream. All cream, almost no uni flavor. I love uni pastas, so I was really excited to try this one. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed at how little uni taste penetrated the very thick cream sauce of the pasta.
My dining partner had the Pizza Milano, which she thought was all right. 3/5.
I tried the following drinks:
Bravissimo - Very strong and interesting but didn't really suit my personal drink tastes. Definitely not a bad drink though, and I loved the charred zest.
Cané Frizzanté - A tart, citrus-based drink that was decent and also very strong. The bartenders definitely didn't skimp on either of these drinks.
Overall, I found the food to be pretty average and also very standard. The uni pasta was a real disappointment, as I was hoping to love it.
I did have an experience at dinner that I found to be quite negative. Halfway through our meal, one of the men who was clearing the table spilled my almost-full drink all over the table. The man who spilled it was very apologetic and cleaned it up promptly, which was fine. My server, who was also there, apologized as well. However, after having spilled my drink, I was not given a replacement drink.
After the very blatant attempts to convince us to purchase more alcohol, failing to even offer a replacement drink knocked over by staff really makes me question the quality of service. These two things combined led me to wonder if the staff are instructed to serve customers or to sell drinks. I found this slight to be unprofessional, and I hope that this is not a standard at Radio Milano.
