We have lived in Marble Falls for 15 years. Every couple of years we give the R-Bar another chance. Obviously some people like it because most of the reviews are good. We have always thought that the food was mediocre at best. Now, Marble Falls doesn't have a lot of restaurants so maybe people are grading on a curve
We had seen a Facebook post that said they had good Chicken Fried Steak. So, we wanted to give them another try. Three of us had the CFS and were all disappointed.
Here's a rundown:
- Food: Everything is over-seasoned. I'm not saying spicy because I like spicy. But just throwing flavors on things hoping for the best isn't going to work out. See details below:
- Service: super slow, but we were not in a hurry so it was OK for us.
Food Details
- Sweet Tea - WOW. Basically tea flavored syrup. And my family loves sweet tea. I actually had unsweet so we mixed mine and my daughter's together and it was still sickening sweet. Tea was never refilled so we just had to deal with it.
- Chicken Fried Steak: Tough, really tough. My 16 YO daughter took the first bite and said, "it tastes cowy". We laughed and then I understood. The meat must of been seasoned or marinated in something that had a strong beef taste. It was like chewing on a beef bouillon cube. One of us were able to choke it down, the other two just passed.
- Mashed Potatoes: I realize this is going to sound strange. But similar to the CFS, it had a very strong flavor. A strong potato flavor. Yes - I know this sounds silly. None of us ate them. I don't know what a raw potato tastes like, but my guess is it tastes like Mashed Potatoes at R-Bar. Oh, and mashed potatoes is not a good name. Chunky potatoes would be a better name.
- Side Salad: Well, it's a simple salad. No issues.
Overall. The food was tough, over-seasoned, and just bad. If you normally eat at Golden Corral, then this place is probably a treat. Otherwise - stay away.
