The experience at Ragtag has always been positive and enjoyable. The movies they show to the options for food and drink. The seating and small theater atmosphere. This is a very underrated option for things to do in columbia in my opinion.

Joey Agati

Google
Amazing theater experience. The staff was super friendly and before the movie the guy talked to us about the theater and what's happening there soon. They show more indie-type movies. Let me Tell you the Sound system for the movie was Incredible! Crisp, clear, perfect sound during the movie and I was really impressed.

Paris Bute

Google
Hands down the best small cinema in the world. This was my third place when I was in college and their movies and popcorn were a weekly tradition for me for three years. Get a Couch Club membership for the best experience.

Google
I had such a wonderful time at Ragtag! First of all, their website is great👌--I bought my ticket online with no issues. The staff is incredibly friendly; and the atmosphere is warm and cosy. As you enter the door, you walk through the bar area, with a bakery straight ahead and you'll find the ticket booth for Ragtag next to it. The venue is really cool; it has an industrial/retro-old school vibe to it. There also is a record store next door to visit in case you end up there early. The popcorn was okay--they do not have any of the conventional topings/flavouring/spice which I enjoy--no butter salt/sour cream & chives, but soy sauce, hot sauce, some salt and one other spice I can't remember the name of--sorry. The salt wasn't too bad. Popcorn plus my drink (Dr Pepper) was $7, which was really cool. Definitely more affordable than many other cinemas I've been to👌. The theater itself is rather small but really cosy--loved that! Also, there are a number of seating options in the cinema--chairs & couches fitted with a really cool adjustable table-thingy (can't get to the word for this--see picture below) to put your snacks on. Highly recommend going here!

Google
Ragtag has a fantastic selection of shows, great drinks and snacks in the lobby and classic vinyl next door. What more could you ask for?

Google
I visited here several years ago with my mom. I wanted to see The Interview, but it wasn’t in any of the more local theaters. We somehow came across this place, and had such a nice time! I loved their unique seating arrangement and how you could order alcohol to drink while watching. (At the time, I don’t think many theaters sold alcohol, if any.) I would love to visit here again someday.

Lucy Moss

Google
Great intimate theater with a bakery and bar in the lobby. Shows 35mm films and more independent films.

Connie Waterman

Google
I was very surprised how roomy it was inside. It was a nice friendly place.

Yelp
We did a double date here to see the new Marcell the Shell movie and it was so cozy! I loved the sofa/lounge chair setup in the theatre, made you feel like you're at home but with a giant screen! Also-the movie was a 10/10; I sobbed. The staff were very friendly and loved that you could grab a tasty beverage from uprise as well!

Yelp
This place is so unique and fun! We absolutely loved the atmosphere and how comfy it was to watch a unique movie here! We saw The Duke and really enjoyed the entire experience! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This cinema has an adjacent bakery-cafe from which you can buy food and beverages to take in with you into the theater. There are only a few theaters total but each auditorium is surprisingly bigger than I expected. The seats are comfortable and have a table that pulls out like a standard student desk. The floor is sloped so you needn't worry about anyone with big, obstructive hair blocking your view. Adult tickets are only $7.50, and the films are new releases.
google avatar

Yelp
Very unique venue to watch a movie. Apparently there are two theaters, one small and one large. We were in the smaller theater to see 'Three Billboards in Ebbing Missouri.' When you walk in there's a very cool bar bakery and coffee shop set up with lots of tables and chairs. You can take all your food, drink with you into the theater and there are lots of very comfortable couches and chairs to sit on. The best part is that the tix are only $7.50. The cashier was friendly and helpful, we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Ragtag represents everything I love about college towns. I see Ragtag as an intellectual endeavor. It plays predominantly thought-provoking films, and the adjacent bakery and bar, along with the small viewing room, creates an environment that has both highbrow and blue collar appeal.

Yelp
TL;DR: come early to get better seats (couches!) and buy snacks & drinks (BOOZE!) from Uprise Bakery! ----- Came here to watch La La Land with my sister and I can't believe I haven't discovered this little gem sooner! Maybe because I came during winter break, I was surprise how packed the place is for a 2:30pm show. I even showed up 15min early, but almost all the seats were taken. This is definitely not your typical movie theater. It reminded me of a 'larger' home theater completed with couches (only the first 3-4 rows :( though), delicious snacks, food and drinks from Uprise Bakery on the way in, and human(!) announcer for upcoming shows. Hipster indeed! Taking off 1 star because the seats are slightly uncomfortable since they don't have neck support. The back of the seats only go up to your shoulder. My neck was definitely sore for staring up at the screen for 2+ hours straight. Maybe I'll bring a neck pillow next time..? :P Also you can only enter from one side of the room... so better take your bathroom break early folks!
google avatar

Yelp
Visited here for the first time. It is a fun and funky little spot. The kitchen was closed the day I went but the bar was still there. Great beer at reasonable prices. Plus they still had some homemade cookies and popcorn. I will be back for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Quirky, different but cute is how I would describe Ragtag. It's a bakery...coffeeshop bar....mixed up with a home theatre? What is this madness concocted by yuppies with beards and lense free glasses?! All kidding aside, you'll probably like this place best if you enjoy homey things for the novelty of it. The chairs are all a smorgasbord of whatever they put together with some couches and loveseats in the front of the room. The theatre sound is okay and the screen is medium sized but I did enjoy the pre-movie blurb by one of the attendants. They seem to be like a little family here with a lot of regulars and couples. The bar is okay, I wasn't in the mood for alchy so I got a mug for self-serve coffee for less than a buck. There's honey and flavoring on the side but I really wish the bakery had been open on Sunday. Oh well, there's always next time!

Yelp
One of Columbia, Missouri's best assets. I saw many great films here including Blue Car, Spellbound and Lilya 4-Ever . The snacks are great and include a good selection of cheese. Every city deserves a Ragtag! I only wish the seating were a touch more comfortable.
google avatar

Sagruilla P.

Yelp
We went to see a free movie--Hello Down There! Totally cheesy and fun. Other movies they play are similar to Landmark-type fare. It is a great college-town spot with beer and fresh-baked goodies (see Uprise Bakery). Yes, the seats were totally uncomfortable.
google avatar

Oscar M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and relaxing. Showing movies other theaters don't dare to. Fine arts and more.
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
I like the films they show, and the seating is fantastic, but the DAMN PEOPLE make this theater awful. The "pretentious, laugh too loud at the funny parts so EVERYBODY knows how smart I am" hipster scum...they make it unbearable. The next generation of mall-rats have converged on this place and made it just terrible. Yes, you college student film majors understand what's happening on the screen, but so does everybody else with half a brain. If you want to watch independent films, go rent them at the video store next to the theater and avoid the pretentious snobs and their self-absorbed juvenile commentary.

Yelp
Like my beloved Miriam W. said, every city deserves a Rag Tag. This is the perfect place to come by any time for any meal. They have amazing cafe food and plenty of seating. Ragtag is a huge part of the Columbia, MO community and is involved in a lot of cool events. I highly recommend going to see a movie here and going to the bar before or after. They have a great selection of beer and friendly staff. All of the theaters are small and intimate. One of them has a bunch of couches and old chairs, it's a really fun experience. Don't forget to grab a beer to bring in with you! They mainly play indie flicks so you might need to do some research before you buy a ticket. Maybe even buy one before because the super popular shows can sell out fast but that isn't usually a huge issue. I wish there was a Ragtag in St. Louis. It's the perfect movie theater and bar!

Yelp
Grand Budapest Hotel... I love you. Nice living room type couches line the front rows. They seat 4 people each... I have anxiety issues, but the couple that sat next to us were nice and we bonded. The girl wore a soft hat and was bird noise impaired. We taught her bird noises and admired her hat. People had popcorns... wines, and boozes of all sorts (served in real glasses). There was a nice introduction of the film by a real person. No previews. Respectful audience. Besides the sound of one glass breaking, no one caused a ruckus. Shows sell out kinda fast -- smaller theater, so there ya go. There is a bakery in this mofo too. It's like a coffeehouse/bakery/movie theater. Yeah...

Yelp
Okay, okay, I admit it. I love Chicago. My love for Chicago had disabled my ability appreciate cool stuff in other cities. There are really awesome indie theaters in our town like the Landmark and Music Box that have earned both my love and loyalty... ...but enter Ragtag. A cute theater in downtown Columbia that does the indie thing? Yup. Cool. Have a really neat bar and bakery in their movie lobby space? Awesome. Indie theater in a college town, with hipster yuppie scum? Shit. Not so cool. We went on a Saturday night thirty minutes before a show (Black Swan) and the place was packed,. Maybe because it was because the film was gaining in popularity or the fact that Ragtag is also a bar, but it was crazy crowded and we couldn't get in for a show. We ended up catching the Sunday matinée of Black Swan the next day, so I did get to experience the nice couches and such. The film quality was kinda grainy, but added a nice charm. I would have given this review a four star and I realize that it may be the result of my un-ending loyalty to my city. But what made it a five star was the employee who greeted us before the showing. He shouted a quick hello, was charming, talked about the upcoming movies they were showing, but also made suggestions for films that he felt matched Black Swan's category. I thought it was a great thing to do because I now have three or four movies to check out.... ...Just in MY hometown's theaters!

Yelp
Saw the movie The Shape of Water at Ragtag. 9 o'clock show. The crowd was definitely bubbly. I've seen movies at Ragtag in the past but this was my first film in the main theater. It's bigger, i would say seats around 80 people. We grabbed wine at the bar and grabbed a couch on the front row, preventing my view of the crowd and giving me a nice hitch in my neck.

Yelp
Pretty cool place. I saw "Girl Crazy" last night as part of the classic musical series. The guy curating this series gave a little talk beforehand. He was incredibly awkward and told the crowd all the things he DIDN'T like in the film before showing it. While others around me seemed annoyed by this, I found it hilarious. The theater-like seats are not super comfy, but they have assorted couches and chairs in the front of the theater if you don't mind being close up to the screen. I like that I could bring my glass of wine into the theater. I saw some red velvet cupcakes behind the counter that looked pretty good. I'll have to go back and try them to be sure. If they are good, I might have add a star to this here review. **Update... I tried the red velvet cupcake. Here is that review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/uprise-bakery-columbia#hrid:3RZPE7fb1r9W5pgl5hn-JA

Yelp
Ragtag is a great place to be. The old Ragtag had a lot of personality, but I would argue that they are keeping it alive here in the new location. As far as design, functionality, and space the new place is better by leaps and bounds. They have combined 9th Street Video (a great place to rent movies), Uprise Bakery (really fresh, artisanal foods) and Ragtag here for one hipster super group, and it really is a great place to hang out and grab a drink before or after the movie. You can take both beer and food into the theater, and a staff member always comes up to announce the movie, tell you a little about the film/director/etc., and ask if you have any questions... a nice touch that lets you know you're in a neighborhood place. Uprise Bakery offers great food, and the bar offers a wide range of drinks so that you can order, say, a Chimay if you're willing to pay $9 for it. Another reason I love Ragtag is that it's a big part of the community. It is one of the main cinemas for True/False Film Fest, which was started by Ragtag's owners. In addition to the latest independent and foreign films, the theater occasionally shows classic or themed films for different times of year (i.e. Halloween classics), which is pretty much awesome. When "Winter's Bone" came out they treated film students from Mizzou to a free showing of the film AND free food from Uprise (hummus and baguettes, cookies, Honest Tea), which was a total treat. Ragtag is really a gem in the Columbia community, and any city should be lucky to have it.

Christine N.

Yelp
I've enjoyed movies at the Ragtag for 6yrs and really like their new location. Grab a drink from the bar, a coffee and a snack from the cafe and enjoy them during your movie. The only bad thing about their new location is that when a well-known movie is showing it can get really crowded. The bar/cafe are now hang out spots and they all share the same entrance/lobby/waiting area. Black Swan was the worst I've seen it though. Just too many people trying to see the movie/hang out at the bar. It isn't usually that crowded. The location now has seats with tables and on a stair incline! But they also kept some of the couch seating, which I enjoy. The staff is friendly, the movie selection is good and if you missed a movie while it was at the Ragtag, 9th St Video will have it!

Yelp
I feel remiss for not writing a review of one of my favorite places sooner. I may be accused of giving out stars a little too easily but this is one Columbia establishment that does everything a five star place should. When I first found ragtag it was a small place on 10th street with a barely there bar and one theater filled with mismatched chairs. It was kinda tucked away and it almost felt too small to even be considered an art theater, more like your friend happened to be screening a movie in his garage. Now it has multiple screens, permanent seats (how comfortable they are has already been reviewed), and a full bar that has become a draw by itself. I can't imagine the void that would exist without Ragtag in Columbia. Too many amazing films would never make it here. 9th street video, Uprise Bakery, and Ragtag all in one place was a genius idea that deserves congratulations. On top of all that Ragtag brings to Columbia, its founders also started the True/False Film Festival. That seals the deal: Five Stars!
google avatar

Annee T.

Yelp
An awesome place, no doubt - if all theaters embraced the idea of selling alcohol and screening quality flicks, the world would be a better place. However, not only is the seating here uncomfortable, if you don't show up early, you end up sitting in the back with a crappy view. Maybe that's part of the "charm," I don't know. Just get there early and be prepared to stake a claim by duking it out with all the other college kids who think they're too cool for Columbia.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Great cappucino & spinach turnover! Drivin thru MO & stopped for a quick cup and bite, and this was some of the better coffee i've had. Having had coffee in italy, germany and both US coasts I gotta say the cappucino hit the spot, just the right bitter strong coffee bean yet smooth flavor for me:) And that turnover..flakey, warm, cheesy &spinach deliciousness!
google avatar

Eva J.

Yelp
Ragtag is a gem. Truly a gem. Bar. Bakery. Great films. I saw "Black Swan" there over Christmas. . . my only criticisms: 1.) The late middle aged man behind me listening to a freaking rerun of "Friends" on his smartphone -- without headphones. Despite several pointed looks, he didn't get the hint. I finally turned around and told him to turn it off, leave, or I would get an usher/bouncer. Seriously. 2.) The hipster kids in weird, ironic costumes. . . we understand you're cool, but you dont' have to dress like a douch to show how "into" your art you are. Seriously, you're hanging around the lobby of a movie theater. A cool, indie theater, but still. . . I would give 5 stars, save these two things.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Honestly, this place is an asset to this town. They usually have at least one interesting movie playing (something you won't see at a "mainstream" establishment) and they have a good beer selection. Where else in Columbia can you even buy a nice Belgian style beer and watch a movie while you drink it? Give me a break - this place is AOK. One caveat: beware of men wearing scarves with their tank-tops, carrying murses, and affronting your nasal senses with hipster BO.
google avatar

Derek T.

Yelp
(Update!! It has been brought to my attention by RagTag that they have put in new Chairs. Enjoy your art house films in comfort now!) The only reason that Ragtag doesn't get a 5 star from me is that. With all the work they did moving the theater and making it look nice on the outside, the chairs are still the ones from the last location or pulled out of the trash. Aluminum chairs and duct taped couches. It's a theater. You sit for hours. Buy new chairs, It shouldn't feel like I'm at my stoner friends basement when you pay an admission to watch a good film unless you can smoke weed inside.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
A interesting little treasure nestled in the city scape of Columbia. With a wide variety of food and drinks including beer on tap, I would venture to say it is a welcome breath of fresh air for those with a concern for where their food comes from and what it is made with. Pricey but nice. The Cinema has a wide selection of indie films that air on rotation. Only one film per week, but a small patchwork theater made with a projector, old couches and chairs and not alot of elbow room if you are over a certain weight or height. I plan to come here again, since it is a nice alternative to the dinner and a movie date.

Paul D.

Yelp
Most pretentious place in Columbia by far. Its run by hippies pretty much, the seating is awful, and its not really much of a theatre. Its more of a bar that has couches and a crappy projector. If youre here just to enjoy time with your friends or group or whatever, you'll probably have a good time. But if you are here for a proper cinema experience, you're better off just watching the movie elsewhere.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
This is definitely not your regular movie theater. The service here is very personal in all aspects.this is the first time I've ever been to a movie theater that actually has couches in them, a bakery, they serve wine and in wine glasses, drinks are served in home style cups. And if you haven't seen the trailer for movie your about to watch they announce it for you before the movie begins. All tho the movies that are shown here aren't blockbusters...but the indie films are growing on me along with Rag Tag. You should definitely come here!

Bradley W.

Yelp
Ragtag is the coolest little indie cinema around. The place is always playing the best of recent indie and world films. The bar area serves the perfect indie soft drinks and snacks, making it the perfect dwelling for the urban hipster stuck in Columbia. The actual cinema isn't your normal movie theatre. Ragtag sports rugged old couches and chairs that are VERY comfy. You'll feel like you just walked into your inner city trendy thrift store. If you're dying to be part of the hipster scene, then Ragtag needs to be on your weekly agenda.
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
The best selection of films in town, plus a great, chill bar!
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
I used to spend just about every night out on Ragtag's patio. They've got the best atmosphere in town, the hippest movies (and the most eclectic movie selection attached), great wine, awesome people, and a friendly staff. The last film I saw there was The Artist. I will be going back soon... I always do. Also, check the tiny lot they've got for parking. Even when the place is full, I seem to get a spot there about 75% of the time. Go Ragtag! And go COMO.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Cool movies that you won't see anywhere else. And you can get beer. It was a bit warm, though, and the seats are all on one level, so it's more likely someone will sit in front of you and block your view.
google avatar

Dee O.

Yelp
Writing this review makes me sad since I no longer live in Columbia but I love this place. Great desserts and the pulled pork sandwich was my favorite. They also use local humanely raised animals. Can't wait to go back and try it.
google avatar

Mohan R.

Yelp
Went to go watch a movie here and instantly fell in love with place. You can buy food at the adjacent bakery and take your food in, sit down and watch a movie. Oh I also love that they have comfy couches to enjoy a movie!
google avatar

Becca S.

Yelp
So I'd call this a hidden gem in Columbia, but I think everyone knows about it. They have fun indie and foreign films, they sell booze you can bring into the theaters, and provide super comfy couches to lounge on while enjoying your movie. I've only ever watched a movie there, but I get the impression that the coffee shop/bar area is a big hangout. I don't think I'm quite cool enough for that scene, but it's definitely my first choice of movie spots when I come home to visit.
google avatar

Dawni C.

Yelp
Love the Ragtag. Always shows films u can't see anywhere else, very personal service and great drinks, coffee and food!
google avatar

Samuel M.

Yelp
Hung out here for a while while Queuing for Herman's House at True/False... you gotta love any place that has Chouffe Houblon IPA on tap. One of my personal favorite Belgian beers, and somewhat difficult to find stateside. This place in general has an awesome beer selection, focusing on local brews such as Schlafly and Boulevard. In addition, they had one of the funnier Queens at this year's True/False. If my business ever takes me to Columbia again, I'm definitely hitting this up for a more lengthy hangout session!
google avatar

Anna D.

Yelp
I love this venue and everything it stands for. I hope their next improvement is more comfortable seats but they will not stop me from attending.
google avatar

Aksinya A.

Yelp
Best coffee in Columbia! I 'm from Portland, so if you are smart you will skim over the rest of this review and get your but over there! Skilled baristas and great food! It's a shame that some people prefer Lakota...I just don't get it. Only bad thing is that they don't make espresso drinks on Sunday :(
google avatar

Jordan F.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite establishments in Columbia, Ragtag promotes independent film and an atmosphere that cannot be beaten for value and experience. My fiance and I enjoy coming here for the dual experience of Uprise Bakery and Ragtag for beer and/or coffee and then settling in for a film that never fails to impress me. Given that Ragtag thrives on originality and creativeness, it will continue to draw crowds such as it does on a normal basis on weekends. This will not deter me in seeking it out in the future, and I can only hope that it continues to thrive. Places such as these need to be cherished and promoted to the highest degree.
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
Cookies were good! I was in and out, but the atmosphere was great! The place is unique. They have a bar, bakery, cafe, movie theater, and food. I also think a Video store?? I am not sure but it has a great dynamic. I will be back for sure!
google avatar

Whitney B.

Yelp
Ragtag is great. I used to hang out there every Friday when they played film shorts for free at five when I was in high school. I love (and miss) their salt-less popcorn, snobby hipsters, and great foreign/domestic films.
google avatar

Gavin M.

Yelp
Very inviting atmosphere, and the food was delicious. Had a sandwich and it was very good, and the ingredients seemed to be very fresh. My dad enjoyed his beer and his sandwich as well. Will definitely be coming back sometime in the future, and maybe catch a movie as well.

Bright D.

Yelp
Artsy films and great staff. Theatres are small and these tend to attract lots of pushy older people. Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes before the show to get a seat.

Greg S.

Yelp
Love going to the Ragtag! Great group of people. Comfy movie watching environment. Lovely food. Great movies. We need more places like this in Columbia.
