A Budget-Friendly Adventure in Jakarta Ragunan Zoo is a super affordable place to visit! We took TransJakarta from the Tanjung Duren Bus Stop, right in front of APL Tower. First, we hopped on the 3F line (Kalideres–Senayan Bank DKI), then transferred to the 6V line (Senayan Bank DKI–Ragunan). The whole ride cost just IDR 3,500 — such a steal! We arrived at Ragunan Bus Station in about an hour. Entry tickets to the zoo are also incredibly cheap — only IDR 4,000! However, you’ll need a special card called a JakCard, which costs around IDR 45,000. If you're staying in Jakarta for a while, make sure not to lose it, as it can be used at various tourist spots across the city. If you're planning to visit on the weekend, we highly recommend going early in the morning. There’s less traffic, fewer people on the bus, and the zoo is much quieter. We really enjoyed strolling around with the cool morning breeze, admiring the birds, and listening to the sound of flowing water — it was so refreshing. But after 11 AM, the zoo gets really crowded — families, school groups, and lots of kids. And when I say crowded, I mean packed! It becomes hard to walk around comfortably, and the noise level goes way up with kids running and shouting. So much for a peaceful morning in nature! I’m thinking of coming back on a weekday next time. There are plenty of stalls selling drinks, ice cream, and snacks, so you don’t need to carry too much in your backpack. Just be prepared to walk — it takes thousands of steps to explore the whole zoo! If you want to save some energy, you can rent a bike, electric bike, or scooter. Parents also can rent strollers for their kids at the entrance gate. We rented an electric bike for IDR 50,000 per hour. Pro tip: If you’re planning to visit the Smutzer Primate Center, don’t rent your bike just yet — bikes aren’t allowed inside. Overall, we had a great time at Ragunan Zoo today. It’s a different vibe from Taman Safari, but it’s always nice to reconnect with nature and appreciate its wonders once in a while.

Great place for a family day out! The zoo is spacious with lots of shady trees, so it doesn’t feel too hot even on sunny days. The ticket price is very affordable, and there’s a good variety of animals to see. Best to come early in the morning to avoid crowds.

Beautiful green space in Jakarta. I come here for the wild birds, not the cages. Always a chance to spot lots of wild birds. A perfect escape for birdwatching in the city.

I really enjoyed visiting Ragunan Zoo! The territory is very big and wonderfully calm—it honestly feels like you're deep inside a lush jungle. It's a perfect place to stroll and enjoy nature. For the price, the facilities are very good and well maintained. I especially liked seeing the Komodo dragon 😄—such an impressive creature! Overall, it’s a great spot for a relaxing day out.

This is where Jakarta’s wildlife goes wild, and I’m not just talking about the animals. LoL! You’ll find everything from lazy orangutans to primates with better dance moves than you at last weekend’s dangdut party. The Gorillas with fancy African names really made the visit worthwhile with its' huge presence and bored outta this world attitude. The enclosures range from natural habitat vibes to trying hard to be modern kinda vibes, but the charm is undeniable. Entry is cheaper than a bottle of mineral water, making it the perfect budget-friendly jungle escape. A good place for morning walks, or anytime walks. Don't try to be too animal friendly and complain about poor enclosure comforts and what not.. this is Indonesia! Just remember to wear comfy shoes, bring snacks or buy a lot of it and drink plenty of water as you explore. And mentally prepare yourself for monkeys that will try to steal your dignity (and your lunch). Recommended.

The cheapest tourist attraction in Jakarta, very spacious, and the cleanliness is also quite good. For entrance tickets, payment cannot be made with regular E-money, only cards issued by Bank DKI. Can be purchased at the entrance counter for 45 thousand / balance of 20 thousand. Entrance fee 4 thousand / person. When entering through the gate, you will be greeted by several photographers who are ready to capture your moment. The animal collection is quite complete, but a few of them were not visible when we visited, it seems they have been put back in cages such as tigers and bears. The roads inside have been improved with new paving blocks. Many pecel food vendors are almost on every corner. There are electric bicycle rentals for those who want to go around without getting tired, the price is 50 thousand / hour. Regular bicycles are 10-20 thousand, some are tandem. There are also cars that are paid for 10 thousand / person. Suitable for family tourism, there are many trees so the air is cool. Many places to lay out mats or you can rent mats. Please maintain cleanliness, throw trash in its place. I suggest to come in the morning so you have enough time to explore everything because the zoo will be closed at 4 pm. Just input for management. 1. The toilets are in poor condition, hopefully they will be renovated in the future. 2. There seem to be too many food vendors scattered, it would be better to just gather them in several places. 3. Animal cages that use glass, many of the glass is already cloudy and needs to be cleaned 4. Rusty railings can be repainted to make them more beautiful I wish Ragunan Zoo success in the future. Thank you.

The one and only zoo in Jakarta City for decades. It has various species of animal to see. It has many vegetation so you don't get too hot when walking around in the zoo at daylight. Ticket price is so affordable. Recommended to visit with family or friends on weekdays to prevent over crowded.
