"For years, customers have slipped into the booths at the Rail Line Diner in Chelsea to order giant cups of coffee and generous spreads of pancakes, eggs, soups, sandwiches, and salads from the restaurant’s encyclopedic menu. The diner has served a crucial role in Chelsea over the years, from a neighborhood joint for early morning pick-me-ups to a welcoming pitstop for nearby High Line tourists." - Eater Staff

VEGETARIAN HEAVEN!! After leaving Chelsea Square across the street for being treated terribly by the staff, and having absolutely no options for food since almost everything they have is cooked on the same grill as the meat, we found HEAVEN in a the lovely Rail Line diner. We were greeted warmly by our waiter Khan, to whom we explained that we are vegetarian and wanted to know if we would be able to order eggs and potatoes that are not cooked in the same areas as meat. He not only said we would be able to stay and enjoy without concern, but added that he too was vegetarian and would make sure himself that we only ordered what would be safe for us to eat. We were overjoyed to stay, and were allowed sit wherever we desired. The food was delicious!! Our Busser Jose was also incredibly warm and a total gentleman, even allowing my beloved to use the facilites before himself out of courtesy for us as customers. The manager and every member of this staff has AMAZING energy, and we are very much looking forward to coming back. THANK YOU, RAIL LINE DINER!! You made our evening perfect!

You have two diners to chose from on the corner of 23rd and 9th avenue. In my most humble opinion, Rail Line Diner is the best place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. I love their French toast with fresh berries (seasonal) and ham with eggs. The berries are truly fresh and the breakfast is good in size, it's a big serving so I usually end up taking it home. I gave it four stars because the coffee isn't to my liking but overall this diner is great! Also, they have great customer service. Such a friendly staff.

Great food... Great atmosphere! The owner is a Gem and I always appreciate the hospitality! It's like dining at a relative's home. The attention we receive from the wait staff is amazing. I've only ever encountered one waiter with a chip on his shoulder and needless to say the management was quick to handle and rectify the experience with courtesy and compassion. Hence; why we will continue to visit!!

We sat down and were immediately given water cups. This would have been nice but one wasn’t covered in lipstick and the other had a giant hair in it. The hash towns were asked to be crispy, but were far from that. The toast was saturated in butter.

Portions were huge for breakfast - maybe a little too huge. However, my friend ordered a meal that came with a soup and never received the soup. The waiter said they'd take care of it on the bill, but the manager only removed $1 from the cost. Pretty stingy when the soils are normally $4.

Good lowkey diner in NYC. Prices are reasonable and the service is good. I'd highly recommend the hash browns

Pretty average diner experience. Not bad but not great either. Portion sizes are a bit too large and prices are a bit steep. It would be nice if they'd both be scaled down a bit. I'd prefer 2/3 the portion at 2/3 the price. This place is great for large gatherings and groups -- they can set up group seating in the back very quickly. Nothing particularly great, but nothing significant to complain about either. It's a diner. It won't be memorable but it won't be terrible either.
