11 Affordable Seattle Restaurants the Whole Family Will Love | Eater

"You don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy the assortment of quarter-pound burgers piled high on brioche buns and ready for pickup in Roosevelt, but it doesn’t hurt either, since many iterations are named for local teams like the Sounders (pepper jack, cream cheese, bacon, and grilled jalapeno) and the dearly departed Sonics (cheddar, swiss, and house hot sauce). There’s something for everyone, as salmon, chicken, and veggie patties are also ready for you to customize with at least a dozen toppings." - Vox Creative

Google
Blue cheese burger and tater tots. Someone suggested this place to me long time ago. Burger taste pretty good, I went around 8pm so it's understandable why bacon was chewy, I like it crispy. Five stars tater tots, taste clean and crispy. It's tough to find parking, university area. Location near Greenlake is good thing.

Google
The burger, fries, and onion rings were good. A bit on the smaller side for the price but still decent. The tables were dirty but the staff came and cleaned them. Everyone was pretty friendly too.

Rosemary Joy Espinosa

Google
Neighborhood burger joint with excellent selection of burgers. Thick milkshakes and crispy fries and onion rings. Very fast service! Older building but adds to the vibe.

Google
Great little burger spot. The menu had many great options and the staff was very helpful in recommending burger choices and customization options. Good burger and the fries were also hot and crispy. I will definitely be back.

I’m always on the hunt for good local burgers which is what brought me here. It’s a place where the menu pics match the actual burgers and that’s rare. The combinations and flavors were pretty good, tho I feel the burgers patties were lacking something in flavor. Prob 3.5/5, tho I’d go back and try more. The inside is old and dark, but has local flair and there’s a good amount of room so you should be able to find a seat. Prices seemed reasonable and there were a good number of options. It’s worth checking out.

Google
Burgers are amazing and good prize, I completely fall in love with the fries. Really recommend!

Google
The burgers are fine, and tater tots were fabulous. The onion rings were kinda greasy. That's really the only problem with the food. The overall place is a little run down, and it could use a sprucing up. Just a suggestion!!

Google
I love this place! I live nearby, and frequent it often. I get the rain city veggie burger, and it's one of the best veggie burgers I've had. Their fries are phenomenal, and the onion rings are cooked perfectly. Their shakes are also fantastic, I get the peanut butter shake and coconut shake and they never disappoint. Eating inside is a pleasant experience, I like how the restaurant is split into 3 rooms. Sometimes the food takes a bit to come out, but most of time it comes out within a reasonable amount of time. Everyone that works there seems really nice! I'd highly recommend checking this place out!!

Yelp
Yumm! Been eyeing this spot for years always intending to stop. Yesterday I was in the right spot and HUNGRY! Got a blue cheese bacon burger and oh my goodness! Heavenly! Order at the counter and the cashier will bring your order to you. Staff is friendly and clearly have many regulars as they chatted up customers. I didn't realize there were tables til I stepped inside. Basic seating about 8 tables but tables and chairs were wiped down and clean. Don't be put off by the downbeat exterior (or basic interior), the food is Great!

Yelp
One of my customers recommended this Burger restaurant. My favorite is the crispy tater tots. Burger was pretty good, I got the blue cheese with bacon, which was kind of chewy. In defense of the cooks, I came in late 8pm before closing time of 9pm so it's understandable. Limited parking available, one way street near the university area.

Yelp
Solid burgers and fries! If you're getting takeout, I recommend ordering online because it does take some time for the burgers to come out. Thought it was odd that they had me hold the extra sauce that I got. Would've been nice for it to be placed into the takeout bag when my order was ready.

Yelp
Solid burger spot. Fire onion rings. (Get these over the fries.) Yum milkshakes. Lots of burger and milkshake options.

Yelp
Rain city burger is located in a convenient location in Roosevelt! I got the sonics burger and some sweet potato fries. My total was $17 which I thought was a little steep for burgers and fries. The food was good, but also nothing special. They do have an extensive menu though so I would be interested in trying their other burgers! The service was fast and there was lots of seating in the restaurant.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Delicious burgers and friendly service! Got their cheeseburger and loved it! Burger was tasty and sauces are delicious! Fries are also really good! 10/10 would come back again for a burger!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Took a solo stroll and stumbled upon this burger place. Small and friendly. No combo style just order burger fries and soda separately. Amazing tots! Didn't need sauce for these taters I'll be back soon
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in here for a quick bite when my friend and I couldn't decide on what to eat! I feel like you can't go wrong with burgers and they were decent!! I also liked the fries, I normally don't go for thick cut but they had a good bite to them. I ordered the ABLT ($10.64) and it was smaller than I expected. With that said I was full and satisfied by the end! My friend got a burger with the fries and paid ~$20 and didn't think it was worth it. It definitely gives small local shop vibes. The area it's located in (roosevelt) is really peaceful! It's been hard for me to find a lot of burger places in seattle, so it's worth checking out if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Yelp
These are the absolute best burgers in the Seattle area. Lots of different options, fair prices, excellent shakes! Really fast service. Only a few tables, so be aware during busy times you might not be able to sit inside. Tip: Order off the Rain City website if you're going to pick up. Everything is priced lower on their website vs ordering via DoorDash or Caviar. Very clean & efficient.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the jalapeños in the burger! The brioche bun is also toasted to perfection. I would highly recommend their special sauce, it tastes like cheesy spicy mayo. The staff is super friendly, fast service. A bit difficult to park nearby since it is located in a busy intersection.
google avatar

Yelp
I was craving a burger and Rain City Burgers was nearby, so I ordered takeout. They're fast, it took about 15 minutes for my order to be ready. I really enjoyed the burger! Their beef patty was thick, and the toppings and sauce were flavorful. I also enjoyed the sweet potato fries, which were pretty crispy and not too soft. The only improvement I would give the burger is for the bun, which was a little dry. I wish the bun had been softer. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Rain City Burgers and I would recommend them if you need a burger fix! I would also come back to try the milkshakes.

Yelp
The telltale sign of a good local burger spot is its ambiance - no frills, no gimmicks, just a clear focus on quality and customer service. Rain City checks these boxes and their burgers prove it. I got to try the Sonics burger and Roosevelt special, both of which surprised me with the freshness of their ingredients. Both were very solid burgers, clearly made with attention to quality. They were a tad messy to eat - the sauce seemed to drip quite a bit and made the buns a little soggy - but were nonetheless delicious. The fries were also solid - perfectly crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside, with the right amount of saltiness, and no greasiness or oiliness whatsoever. The Rain City sauce I got with them had a little too much mayo flavor for my liking, though it is a matter of preference. The oreo shake was also good; it was initially too thick and chunky to drink with the straw, though this was easily remedied with a spoon. For the price point, the burgers are a great value as you get what you pay for. However, there were not as many fries as expected for $5 and the shake was a little pricey compared to other spots, but again, Rain City does not skimp on quality.

Yelp
Very rude people working here. Awful customer service. Burgers are good, but everyone working here is rude as hell. Nobody smiles, nobody says please or thank you. Rude people

Yelp
Grabbed take out here on my way home. Though they have a whole veggie burger menu, it's only boca burgers or a black bean burger, which are not particularly appetizing choices as a vegetarian of over a decade. There are tastier and better quality veggie burgers out there. Because of that, I ordered a grilled cheese and tots, which were quite tasty! The shake was also pretty good and was made freshly. The pricing was pretty reasonable for the area. They got my food out pretty quick even though I was a walk in for the take out order. There is space to eat in if you'd like too, with a lot of brightly colored tables and chairs.

Yelp
Was starving and didn't know where to eat but came across this place, it's was like crack..I literally couldn't put my burger down. Flavors were amazing, definitely my new favorite place, hit the spot!
google avatar

Yusuke S.

Yelp
Food is good! Burger is pretty juicy. Ingredients are fresh. Burger is wrapped so your hands don't get dirty. Tater tots is excellent. Fried with fresh oil. And it came out as freshly fried. Service was great - the server politely answered my questions and gave me guidance without trying to sell me unnecessary items. Seats were around 10-15, but I guess they might have more seats other time. The ambience was nice - it was not noisy and a nice place to have good foods and have a chat with friends. Lots of sports flags were hanging including soccer. Nice to see as a soccer fun :)

Yelp
Came here for dinner on weekday. Wasn't busy and ordered the mushroom swiss burger and tater tots. The burger was pretty good and the meat was juicy. I got two patties since I was hungry and I would say it was decently worth it. The tater tots were average, not bad and not super good.

William W.

Yelp
Fantastic burger joint. They make good burgers. The tater tots they have are delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
The Sounder with cream cheese, jalapeno and bacon is one of my go to burgers in North Seattle. They also have great milk shapes and you can mix multiple flavors.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I was here visiting and hands down best burger I've ever had! This was such a great staple of Seattle! Also their milkshakes and signature sauce is fire!!!!!!!
google avatar

Richard K.

Yelp
The burgers are phenomenal. The meat was juicy and well cooked well also being well seasoned. The toppings were fresh and crunchy! Love the fact that it was quick, easy and fast! Seems clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and quick to greet us. Thank you guys for making this a great visit!

Yelp
I'm not a big burger person, so when I have the random craving for one I need to satisfy it right away! Rain City was there to get the job done! I purchased a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and was impressed by how delicious each bite was thanks to their savory special sauce! My only disappointment was the joint itself is not as well kept, I'm assuming because they were quite busy the day I went, but it would be nice to see the location a bit cleaner when I visit again! Otherwise, definitely recommend!

Yelp
This place was so good! Burger was so juicy. I got the Hawaiian veggie burger and it was delicious. The pineapple was super juicy and it came out nice and hot. The onion rings were so crispy and delicious and the house sauce was insane. The milkshake was delicious and you can also double up the flavours and the peppermint shake was an absolute delight. my friends and I were super satisfied with the food. 10 out of 10 would recommend!!!!

Yelp
I just had a double cheeseburger and it was outstanding. It is reminiscent of a fast food burger but only in all of the ways that are good if that makes sense. The sesame seed bun, the American cheese, the patties were nicely cooked with some char and they were thick. It's a good value as well.

Jay H.

Yelp
Food is delicious. I ordered the sounder burger which is a signature buger in this restaurant. The jalapeno and somked bacon in the burger make it special. It is not a classic burger (e.g. quarter pound burger in McDonalds), but it is worth to try.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Love at first bite! The mushroom Swiss burger used a huge Portobello mushroom with just a touch of smoke flavoring. Tator tots were golden brown and piping hot. Self serve fountain inspired me to make a graveyard: mine was Coke, orange, ice tea and lemonade. The ambience? I was in a reverie over the food...but when I came to, I noticed the utilitarian wall covering...
google avatar

Ginny C.

Yelp
Solid burger place with really good onion rings and tots! I really enjoyed the cheeseburger and my sister really enjoyed the mushroom burger. Would get this again!
google avatar

Caitlin H.

Yelp
Just an "okay" burger. The patty didn't have much flavor. I got one with mushrooms, but I couldn't really taste them. The bun was nice, and I liked that some of the edges got greasy and squishy.
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
The burgers and fries were great! Definitely worth it for the price. Lots of flavor and I was full. Lots of seating and the menu was huge.

Rob Y.

Yelp
We were out and about and had a craving for some good burgers. The burgers definitely hit the spot and the customer service was just out of this world. Extremely nice very patient with my accent and just true down home hospitality. If you're looking for a good burger and very friendly people, this is your place. The hardest part is finding parking. My suggestion would be just go up a block and find a street parking. If you have someone who can stay in the car while you go get the food, that would be the easiest. The inside is very comfortable as well if you want to sit down and eat it there.
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
Burger was divine. I ordered the 12th Man burger because it's the biggest. Added mushrooms and garlic fries. Hearty and satisfying. The waitress was very demure, very mindful when she placed the tray on the table.

H L.

Yelp
Fantastic, unique burgers that have won several awards! I'd recommend the Hawaiian burger and the Mariners burger! Standard casual ambiance inside, I always get my order to-go to enjoy at home. Great, fast service with free side sauces.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
There are a lot of options for burgers and include chicken and vegetarian burgers. All the burgers are under $10 which is amazing given the average price of burgers I've seen elsewhere in the range of $10-15+. Some of their best selling burgers are ones named after Seattle sports teams. Even the walls and decor of the restaurant are those of Seattle sports teams colorways like neon green and blue. They also serve beer and wine here if you're looking for that. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger ($8.49) and the sonics burger ($9.49). The mushroom swiss burger is what you'd expect although the mushrooms are bigger pieces rather than the typical thin slices. For the sonics burger there is hot sauce but it was not spicy at all. It's one of the better burgers I've had in the greater Seattle area since they don't go crazy with the toppings. If I'm in the area and I'm craving a burger or something simple I'll make a stop here.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
One of my go-to burger spots in Seattle. Reasonable prices and great staff members that make me feel welcomed. This spot definitely feels like it represents the rain city ambiance.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Looks shady and dead from the outside but this place has withstand time and has been a neighborhood favorite for decades. Before this block will be forced to tear down for new apartments, you should try it. Its good o' quality burgers. Each side comes with a free sauce of your choosing - the rain city sauce is basically the chick-fil-a sauce with more mayo.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
The service was great. Not a knock on the location at all. The burger was just lacking flavor in all areas. Needed to use sauce for all the food.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
In this city of 4 and 3 star restaurants, it's incredibly refreshing to find a great burger place like Rain City Burgers. They have so many options and add-ons that their chalk board menu reads like the stock market. I don't eat land animals but from my choice of the Salmon Burger, I'm betting a hearty sum that their beef burgers are out of this world. So let's talk about the Salmon burger. First, it's not some processed patty. No, it's a chunky and flaky fillet. Cooked perfectly and the shredded lettuce, pickles, tomato and onion are in perfect proportion to the size of the salmon. The added sauce is tasty, but doesn't make it sloppy. The bun is a tad dense but I'm not here to complain one bit. This burger is completely satisfying and delicious. The fries are wonderfully crisp and the right amount of salty. You have to ask for a tub of their sauce (complimentary per one side) or you won't get any. I had the house sauce and it reminded me of when as a kid you would mix all the condiments together. Plus a little kick, paprika maybe?! Highly recommend this place and don't be scared off by the greasy bag it comes in. Just proves this place knows what it's doing.

Yelp
Best burgers in Seattle, hands down! Service is great, very fast, large selection and awesome Seattle sports themed restaurant!
google avatar

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
Classic juicy burger with deliciously crispy onion rings and also loved the side dipping sauce! The milkshake was extremely thick but very good and the 12% happy hour discount made it all worth.

Juan V.

Yelp
Great gluten free burger! Nice size, taste, and good vibe. Parking is hard to find. But great overall.
google avatar

Val E.

Yelp
Been eyeing this spot for some time. Tried the mushroom Swiss burger and it is phenomenal. I would come here just for that and nothing else. The fries were a bit too salty like other reviews mentioned. And the kids burger is pretty expensive, almost $7 for meat and cheese, with no toppings no sides. But the mushroom burger is only 9.49 and it's loaded with stuff. Will definitely come back for that.

Darin S.

Yelp
I hesitate to provide negative feedback but in this case it's warranted. I've been wanting to bring home a meal from this place for a couple months now and have been told by staff and students alike that RCB is the place to go in the neighborhood so my expectations were reasonably elevated. ordered single bacon cheeseburgers, fries & regular shakes. The best way to convey my experience was that the food portion of this package was 1/2 a step ahead of McDonalds in flavor, not as salty and the portion size was identical. Literally looked like a 1/4 pounder. The shakes, dead ringer for ol McDonalds, just gross. Totally a disappointment. parked 2 blocks away and paid a few click under $50 bucks for 2 burgers, 2 blaw shakes and 1 fry. It amazes me what people put up with for marginal food at these kind of prices. 7-11 hotdogs are more flavorful than what we just chocked down.
google avatar

Othon H.

Yelp
I worship their macadamia nut milkshake and everyone I bring is instantly converted to the cult of Rain City. Onion rings are grade A, burgers are good (not the best in Seattle, but up there), but this freaking milkshake with a way too small straw that regulates flow so you can't just inhale the whole thing at once is the reason we come back.
google avatar

Joann P.

Yelp
As a Bay Area transplant, I love a good burger! Rain city is not only local to me but hits the spot every time! This will forever be my go to burger spot. I don't generally eat in, but they do have seating available. I love supporting local businesses and this is a perfect mom & pop burger spot.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
Visiting Rain City Burgers proved to be a good experience! Bookmarked on my list for a long time for a neighborhood I don't pay visits to as frequently as before this felt like more of a novelty stop since visits are no longer routine. I ordered their Cheeseburger along with an order of french fries. Arrival of the order was prompt and the food was very good. The meat of the burger was of good quality and the french fries were well prepared. Definitely a good stop if you are craving a burger but they also have chicken and meatless options as well!

Jayf E.

Yelp
Rain City Burgers is BAD. My pookie got food poisoning from their crusty burgers and now I have to go to Forensic Science alone with FUCKING Owen :'(

Carol B.

Yelp
Great burger - super fast and friendly service. Rain City is our go-to when we are in the area.
google avatar

Chandra P.

Yelp
My husband wanted a really good chicken sandwich and fries; Rain City Burgers came highly recommended. The menu is very accommodating to every dietary preference. Our order was freshly prepared and very good. The milkshake was so thick my 2 yr old enjoyed his treat while heading to our destination. We will definitely return, and highly recommend!

Yelp
Sometimes you just want a great burger, especially from a place that features so many different burgers to choose from. You can't go wrong here! I enjoyed the Roosevelt Special and a glass of Manny & Jacks Amber Ale, and it made my day. Perfectly cooked burger, fresh buns, tomatoes and toppings fresh, it was fantastic.
