"Right next door to Road Trip is Rainbow Cattle Company, a gay bar that’s been serving up powerful drinks since 1979. Rainbow is, no doubt, one of the country’s finest gay dive bars and is the perfect place to round out a full day in town." - Garrett Schlichte

Had a great time here. Good music. Excellent service from the bartender. Good beer.

Google
Amazing queer space with some of the most fun bartenders I've seen, even including the city. Definitely give this place a look!

ben treolo

Google
Wonderful community hub, Ben and Brian are great bartenders, and I'm sure the other staff are too. Guerneville wouldn't be guerneville without the bow. So happy to have it

Google
Fun little spot. Drinks and fun atmosphere. We stopped in this gem while visiting our uncles. We came in and the place was ready. Fun and good customer service. Good drinks and good energy in this place. Wanted to come back for the Halloween party but we did not make it out. Maybe next time!

Google
Loved our visit to Rainbow Cattle Co. I love the queer history photos on the wall and the cleanliness / atmosphere of the bar overall. We played shuffleboard (the table could be updated, but it still gets the job done) and had a great time. The bartender, Brian, was excellent. He was nice and had great conversation with our group, making recommendations and helping us navigate the area.

Google
Very nice bar for some fun. Bartenders were very friendly and lovely. Definitely recommended!

Google
First stop always after making the drive up from SF. Always great service and vibes at this place and we love their back patio!

Google
One of two gay bars in Guerneville. The other being at the R3. Rainbow Cattle Co. is located on the main drag. The music is great! They play techno music or remixes most nights. The bar tenders are friendly. They have a full bar with many beers on tap. The bar features two pool tables, a shuffle board table, and pinball. The crowd is mixed, mostly gay, with most guys over 30.

Yelp
Travel to this area a bit and looked up this cute old school Gem of an LGBT bar. It has history. Great staff but cash only! Definitely will hit again when back in town.

Allie G.

Yelp
Lively dive bar! Rainbow Cattle Company was expectedly busy on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The interior was dimly lit with eclectic decor (mostly cow skulls and vintage photography), a few pool tables, and some arcade games. The bar was cash only and the drinks were ridiculously strong - generous pours, too! They also had a small (dog friendly) back patio, which was fully covered. Overall, good vibes and quick service!

Kelly C.

Yelp
I love a good dive bar. Went there with a friend while we were in town of the weekend. Good times.

Grant C.

Yelp
My new favorite bar and sadly I live 7 hours away. An iconic, welcoming space in Guerneville where honky tonk country meets queer vibes. Fun games, Pliny on tap, friendly staff and good music. Cash only which is honestly a plus. Step back in time. Check out the art. Grab a drink. You're gay and having the time of your life. Cheers!

Megan S.

Yelp
Friendly servers, relaxed environment, drinks were good. I was concerned it was a cash only bar but they have an atm. Overall good time!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Love me a good local dive bar!!! Ben was super kind and good company. This was only our second time to guerneville but our first visit to this bar and we will def plan on coming back especially with how welcoming they were to our little pup. We came here shortly after they opened so they were not busy much which was perfect. We definitely plan on coming back next time we are in town. Thank you again Ben and congrats again on becoming part owner.

margaret bolton g.

Yelp
Perfection, always a fun time here! Good people watching and I love the little outdoor space for when you need a break

Yelp
I'm going to be on a solo vacation in the next two weeks. This bar is so relaxing and friendly,I'm looking forward to chilling out. The staff is amazing, the ambiance is perfect. See you soon !

Yelp
We were four, old, straight guys on a bicycle tour. We were looking for a bar that was so friendly, they'd let us roll our loaded camping bikes in while we enjoyed a beer and air conditioning. I peeked into the RCC and asked the bartender if he could accommodate us. "Absolutely! Roll em in and put 'em in the stable out back!" He replied. And so began one of the best bar and customer service experiences any of us had ever had. This is a bar with a clean bathroom, a friendly vibe in the afternoon, a great beer selection, and at least one of the most skilled and caring bartenders in the universe. Did we feel like we were invading what is clearly a comfortable refuge for the LGBTQIA community? At first, yes. I am a privileged-as-hell American who has access to darn near any bar on the planet, so I don't want to take up someone else's bar stool. This concern of mine evaporated within the first minute as the bar tender set us up with some cold pints of a local-ish brew. We felt welcome. We were visited by one of the locals but most ignored us. The bartender kept a close eye on us and set us up with a bowl of potato chips. If you've ever toured by bike, you know how magical it is to eat food containing salt and fat. And you know how delicious a cold drink tastes after miles of turning the cranks. There we were with blissful smiles -- second pints on the way. One of our wiser members realized that we had better cut ourselves off or we'd end up staying in this haven until it was too late to get to our next camping destination. We settled up. As we rolled our bikes back through the bar and out the front door, it was like we were a small parade and we were sent off with kind wishes to "watch out for cars!" and "come back any time!" Thank you, Rainbow Cattle Company. May you continue to thrive and do your part to Make America Gay Again.

Mike K.

Yelp
Bartenders are great. Best bar in town. Don't forget to try out the mason jar drinks.

Rachael C.

Yelp
Officially one of my favorite gay bars. The give back Tuesday events are fun and really gives you a sense of community in such a small town. Thanks for being awesome

S Blair P.

Yelp
Oh. What can you say?! It's the oldest queer bar in town. I think. And it's fun. They play good stuff on the tvs-or, at least I trust that they decided to play the wizard of oz! Minus one star because seriously , being old is no excuse for not taking anything besides cash.

Z M.

Yelp
Love this place! So welcoming! Waiting for the Sonoma County Lesbian Reunion. Let's go ladies!!

Gari C.

Yelp
Pinball...... You can never go wrong (of course you could: go wrong.) Apparently, some one-star-type people have .... It's a matter of perspective right? .... Here is my experience here... A. Non---- bullshit..... The Uglies .... Diner have a good time.... What's new.... (The uglies; are of an ugly personality..... just look up their other reviews....

Yelp
I love the Rainbow Cattle Co. it's much more than a gay bar. No matter how you identify (LGBTQ or Straight) you're always welcome and greeted as a friend. The bar staff are stellar. Love all of them. The drinks good and strong. The ambience fun and funky. On Tuesdays they have "Give Back Tuesdays" where 10% of the money they make on drinks goes to a local charity. A lot of the town and folks from neighboring towns show up. Some of the local restaurants do a buffet for $5. And there's usually a white elephant (where I scored a $1200 Bruce Weber Poster for $20 of tickets). This has been going on for several decades and has raised thousands of dollars. I've seen politicians, drag stars (out of drag), Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, gay adult movie stars, all hanging out with tourists, locals (gay and straight), and an occasional grandma crocheting at the bar dishing the dirt with her friends. It's a trip! It's a neighborhood bar weekdays, but there are lots of tourists on weekends and during the summer... the "Cheers" on the River. And Brian the "Bear" bartender is much cuter than Ted Danson.

Jenn N.

Yelp
I loved this place. We invaded on a Saturday night and the bartender was incredibly patient with our huge group of women. The drinks were strong and cheap. A couple of the ladies in our group played pool and a couple of nice guys gave them some pointers. We all felt welcomed, with open arms, in every way. It has more of a mellow vibe, vs. a party vibe. There were a lot of little pockets of people chilling and chatting. They keep the music low enough that you don't have to scream. Sip a little something, say hello to a stranger & enjoy yourself.

Alan H.

Yelp
Terrible Service. Bar tender's first words = we close in 30 minutes (they closed more than an hour from when we walked in). Complained about working 6 days in a row. Blah blah blah. You'd think they'd appreciate people walking in and having a drink - but not really. Also it's 2021 - accept credit cards. It's the typical mountain mentality.

Preston H.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever! Very rude and judgemental! Not happy with this place whatsoever don't ever go here!

Zipporah S.

Yelp
I'm coming from out of town and wanted to go out to a gay friendly bar tonight and there isn't anything where I'm at and I came across this one. I've read some reviews on Yelp but they were pretty old but mostly seen a lot of rants about people working here being rude...I haven't even stepped foot into this bar and got rude vibes from just talking to the bartender there. I called to ask a couple of questions and when I was talking he said, "ok well thank you honey you have a nice day" and just hung up on me. It's sad how people think it's ok to just treat people like crap and turn people off from your business. Im in this area a lot and wanted a good place to frequent on the weekends with friends...bet you I won't be going there.

Obed R.

Yelp
Had a great time with my friends! Great ambience super friendly! Good drinks, good music!

Sean B.

Yelp
Cute little gay bar in a cute little town. Friendly servers, fun rustic vibe, super chill. Reasonably (if not cheap) priced drinks. Definitely a place to hang out on a gay ol' weekend in Guerneville.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Best bar, great people! This is part of the central Guerneville hub in DT. Love the service, locals, and options for games.

Lux P.

Yelp
Fun and inclusive bar. They have two pool tables and lively music. There is also a back area where you can have a smoke. Friendly place, so be friendly.

Anita L.

Yelp
Came here on NYE and had a fun time. The have different games set up inside and the bf and I ended up playing a couple games of pool. The place started off pretty quiet but then got more lively around 11 pm as more and more people trickled in. The place was decorated with colored lights and balloons, making everything super festive. They had good music playing and everyone was having a good time. A great place to check out if in DT Guerneville and in need of a lively bar to go to.

Yelp
Get the Long Beach Iced Tea to split with a friend. Best economic decision you'll make all vacation. It was the size of my head - http://flickr.com/photos/18009532@N00/2706267752/ There were about 5 different kinds of alcohol with heavy pours, and a tablespoon of cranberry. The bartender gave a big toothy grin, as his eyes sparkled, when he handed it to me. "You're not driving are you?" I told him that I didn't even know how drive. He smiled. The drink was so strong that I even had to make a return visit, requesting he add more cranberry juice. He cocked his head as his eyes shone. "You said you weren't driving?!" Rainbow is the Trax and Cinch rolled into one, with a big cup of "dive" thrown in for flavor. They have a cute outdoor area, some fun pinball games, and an abundance of characters, which makes for superb random conversations. My only complaint about Rainbow is that despite Britney Spears being played loudly by the DJ, no one even shook a tush. We finally headed on over to Yamagata, since the bartender said that Rainbow isn't a huge dancing spot. Budget buzz, bears, and a quirky crowd - though sadly no bumpin on the dance floor. Still we'll be back Rainbow.

Angela B.

Yelp
Have ever wondered where you can get a big strong drink ? Look no further than this bar!!! I heard rumors that the long islands were amazing and they were more than that....$10.00 bucks and you are pretty good for most of your day....or night...for either one is rather splendid. Outside seating on the covered patio is secluded enough to be private and open all at the same time. Been there now a few times and find myself longing for the beautiful drive out and a long island iced tea. Other drinks are pretty fabulous as well, a decent tequila sunrise and vodka cran have all been tested and approved by myself and the crew. Is it a gay bar? Many seem to ask me this...and yes I do believe it is. Is it low key, laid back and comfortable? Oh for sure folks. It has a country charm with a splash of class and possibility all wrapped into one. I will usually go for a drink..then end up there all day...and leave super happy.

Arron H.

Yelp
No it's not a steak house , but it's a meat market! Seriously some of my most favorite people in the Russian River area have been known to congregate there, a great place to check out and hang with real, good folks in a kind atmosphere that can pop off on occasion. Go to get a date but don't bring one, beware of Lesbians bearing gifts - lost a wife there-LOL! Can't blame her for wanting to stay- Time to come home now honey ....babe?

Sarah S.

Yelp
Great bar with a friendly staff and great drinks - also super inexpensive. One of two gay bars in Sonoma County, so a must stop for the LGBTQ crew.

Willoughby D.

Yelp
They were closed at 11:30pm on a Thursday night early in December 2020 when their hours said they were open until 2:00am on Yelp.

Prince S.

Yelp
A fun bar. Exactly what I pictured in my mind. My first visit prompted me to come back and bring friends. We'll be back again. The patio is bright.

Robert S.

Yelp
I'm torn now on this review. The last two evenings we went in, we had good service and friendly staff. Saturday evening around 7 I had to ask for the glass instead of plastic, bartender tried saying he had no glass, only plastic, I just stared him down till he walked over and grabbed two glasses. The Hefewiesen (so) is supposed to be served with orange. When I asked, the bartender gave me hella attitude and acted like I was asking for his left nut. And on top of that, the prices suddenly went up by $2 per beer from the previous night. While I like the place, I'll only go in if the one bigger guy is tending bar. He was cool.

Gina A.

Yelp
Love this bar! Always stop when I'm on my way to the coast. Adam is super dope. He's super welcoming and friendly. Drinks are good and cheap. Came during a town fundraiser and it was cool to see the community supporting the town. Pretty sure the other bartender with the side ponytail "thing" roofied my brother in law last time we Came when we were camping. Still a good time though. Will return with a watchful eye on his drink and mine.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Adam is amazing. He makes you feel welcome. I've read about women not feeling welcome here but my sister and I did, and it's because of Adam. Stiff ass Long Island in a mason jar. $11. Loved it. Love Adam. Go here and get a cocktail and chill out.

Nina A.

Yelp
Has the most fire pour of 2015. This bar is super wonderful, fun, decorative and just absolutly perfect. Had such a great time here!

Connie C.

Yelp
The bartender with the chipped tooth was so good to us this past weekend. He told us about Rio Nido Roadhouse when we were feeling like pub food, and he told us about Club Yamagata when we wanted to shake our booties. And when Jessica, who barely drinks at all, wanted a drink, did he make her a drink. Something sweet, she told him. And before he made her anything, he asked if she was going to be driving. 5 pours and 2 straws later, he handed over this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/18009532@N00/2705445569/in/photostream/ If you want to get butt drunk and only have $7, order a Long Beach Iced Tea. Great for a cheap date! Gay boys: not much eye candy to write home about.

Anthony M.

Yelp
It is a weekday so not very busy. Bartender will not engage in conversation after several attempts. Will not come back.

Amanda P.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went there a week ago to celebrate my birthday at Russian River thinking this would be a gay-friendly bar where we could really cut loose and enjoy ourselves and the atmosphere, BUT this was not the case--On the first visit to check it out, the bartender was impatient with us and had a generally unfriendly attitude, making us feel unwanted and rushed--we were merely seeing if we wanted to go there on my actual birthday for a few drinks. The second day (my birthday) we decided to wind down and give it a try, thinking maybe the staff would be nicer, but the bartender was short and rude about taking our order, not even realizing on my ID card (not that it`s part of his job description to, but it was sort of a let down) that it was actually my birthday--he didn`t even make small conversation with us. Already being served, we decided to stay at the place a little bit to check out what it had to offer, since the decorations were neat and the events on pamphlets were outrageously gay-friendly, but even the customers seemed rather clique-ish and unfriendly. My favorite quote of the night from my girlfriend was "Jeez.. Sorry we don`t have penises!" I guess you have to be a gay male to get any decent service at this bar. :) I love feeling ostracized even though I`m GAY too!

Robin K.

Yelp
Our bartender was not friendly, but not mean. He poured a highly horseradishy bloody mary. Not really my style. His martini was superwoman strong, and the shots of Greygoose at $7.75 were filled to the top with 80 proof goodness. I'd say that's enough for 4 stars. Most of the locals gave us the cold shoulder. We smiled at several and got nothing but a blank stare. Sticks up there asses. Maybe?

Larry S.

Yelp
Rainbow cattle co. How I live thee. Who ever thinks these bartenders are mean must think soft cuddly puppies are porcupines! Very laid back welcoming feel here, I'm straight and this is ny favorite bar in guerneville. Gay bar? So what! Awesome people are awesome people. I've been here a few times and liked it so much I threw ny 32 birthday here! Seemigly random free Pool nights, pin ball and shuffle board! AND I can take my drink onto their patio, which is secluded, and smoke! I think I might stay for awhile, or never leave..... Now if I can just get that hard ass smiley overly friendly bartender to make me a cot in the back....

Stephen G.

Yelp
The 'Bo, as we locals call it, is delightful, unpretentious, welcoming and comfortable no matter who you are. Yes in the 'old days' it was a refuge and sanctuary for the weary and persecuted, but now Guerneville has morphed into one of the most integrated, seamless and un-judgemental towns west of the Allegheny. Wii video bowling Mondays during the winter (a benefit for the Sisters, and thanks to innkeeper Bob, every Tuesday for the last decade) has been a benefit for a non-profit, needy, underfunded or deserving local group. The two pool table are covered with wild and useful raffle prizes and the buffets, furnished by the recipients, are imaginative, skillfully prepared and full of surprises. The Rainbow's decor is neo Old West, stools encircle the bar and there's a modest adjacent patio. The crowds can be lively and spontaneous but it's fun and contagious. Thank you Bobby, Ben and all those who make us feel we're glad we're there.

Sid D.

Yelp
We walked in after a day of kayaking on the Russian River to find a shirtless bartender with leather suspenders on, and knew we were in the right place! Two drinks for $7 bucks total -- that's a deal. Pinball, pool, shuffleboard, and video games (I am a sucka for Area 51. I love shooting all the aliens like a madwoman!). Plus, tons of drunk old gay men in hawaiian shirts to chat up. They also serve long island ice teas (we passed on this one) in freaking JARS. Don't miss it if you're in Guerneville!

Zack E.

Yelp
This place is truly entertaining. Anything can happen! Depends on the weekend. There are weeks during the "off season" that the Rainbow Cattle Co is quiet and little is there. There are also events like Bear Weekend that make it all worth while. The staff is always friendly. The Russian River is a must as far as tubing down the river during the summer. Armstrong State Park is a great hiking area as well. Every time we go to Guerneville, we have checked out the crowd here. The draft beers are very good. IPAs are the way to go! :D

Edward H.

Yelp
What a rip off. Went there last week for happy hour and ordered a brandy coke and voda martini at happy hour - was $14 bucks. When I questioned the high prices I was shunned by the bartender Bobby. Went down to Stumptown Brewery and got the same thing with call liquor for $10 bucks. Too expensive for my blood, especially at the River. Makes more sense to drink in SF where prices are cheaper. So if you have a budget, don't have cocktails here!

Michael L.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The bartenders are so friendly and nice. The place is central to Guerneville and always fun. The drinks are well priced and the people friendly. If you like country music go on Wednesday night. Lee will treat you right. If you happen to go on a night that Scott is working you will be happy as he is so nice and very cute. I always tell people to check it out.

Alvin M.

Yelp
This is a cool, laid back bar! On the main strip, but still kinda of hidden, till you walk in. The bartenders are cool and drinks are pretty strong! They have a dj, that plays top 40 and anything you request. We had a fun time playing the salt hockey game! Over all fun!

Gabrielle J.

Yelp
Rainy, rainy Saturday afternoon. Bf- what do you feel like doing? Me- let's drink! Bf- ok there's that bar (points to Rainbow bar) and that bar (points to sports bar across way) Me- Ok let's go to that one (points to rainbow) BF- no, let's go to THAT one (points to sports bar) Me- Ok- one round of pool at sports bar, but I heard they make meean drinks in there (points to rainbow) Bf- Ok 2 beers, 2 rounds of pool and 2 rounds of Area 51 later, we slosh through the rain across the street to rainbow bar. Bf- this kind of looks like it's a gay bar? Me- GEE ya think?? whatever, I want a fun drink and you'll love it BF and me- walk in and all the leather- clad men at bar turn towards us (one lets out low whistle clearly intended for my beautiful man) Me to bartender- what do you make that's strong and yummy Bartender- besides that? (points to bf) Me- I want a drink in one of those jars Bartender- makes me long island in a huge mason jar ($8/jar- what a deal!) I go and get $10 worth of quarters and we end up getting sloshed and having an amazing time with the locals, pool tables, and Area 51. 5 stars? Absolutron.

Andy B.

Yelp
Great bar. Something for everyone. Pool table, pin ball, TV screens with sports and movies, great drinks, friendly staff. Not the Castro but laid back country style atmosphere in the redwoods.

Russ R.

Yelp
For a friendly bartender who never forgets a face, it's hard to beat Ben.
