On July 2nd, 2025, at 18:13 (6:13 PM), I had a very disappointing and disheartening experience at the Rainbow store located at 3500 North Roxboro Road in Durham, NC. A young woman in all black attire, wearing an A&T University cap, appeared to be either a team lead, assistant manager, or a trainer, as she was showing another employee how to operate the register. When I came to the counter, there was no greeting, no acknowledgment, just an immediate comment that one of my items was mispriced and misplaced because it didn’t have a sticker. I explained that it came from a clearly labeled $3 rack, which had multiple items (at least three that I saw) that were also incorrectly placed there. I simply was trying to check out. I have no idea how the store keeps inventory or why I had to repeatedly tell the young lady where the items were found. Again, on the advertised rack. After answering twice and returning to the counter a third time, I was stunned when this staff member aggressively asked, “Do you have a problem?” and accused me of having an attitude, simply because I was pointing out the ongoing issue of incorrectly priced merchandise and answered the question being asked. Yes, I do have a problem: with the unprofessionalism, the mismanagement of inventory, poor example of leadership, and the hostile customer service. I’m genuinely confused as to why any staff member would think it’s okay to speak to a paying customer in that manner. The way she addressed me felt confrontational—as if she was ready to fight, not resolve a simple pricing issue. At that point, I just wanted to complete my purchase and leave the store, never to return. I would not recommend this store to anyone, not friends, not family, not anyone who deserves to be treated with even the most basic respect and Human decency. Her energy was aggressive, unwelcoming, and unprofessional from start to finish. Unfortunately, the staff seemed in phased as if this was a normal occurrence. I challenge regional and national management at Rainbow to visit this location incognito and experience firsthand how customers are being treated. Because what happened to me today is absolutely unacceptable, and it reflects very poorly on the Rainbow brand as a whole. Next stop is BBB and strongly suggest Undercover Boss make a visit, provide basic professional, customer service, and people training. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter. -Extremely Disappointed Customer

GO THERE! My new favorite clothing store. They have everything—from classy and preppy to hot and spicy. And great deals, too!

There's not enough room to push a stroller or wheelchair through the aisles so it kind of felt squished. The person working was dancing to the music when I walked in, so that was interesting. She never did ask me if I needed any help.

This is a very cool store. So many different options than you typically see in the regular stores. If you are looking for something a little wild, differnet, crazy, super cool, flashy, and cheap ~ they have it! I love it!

Horrible customer service. Horrible. I had so much shopping for my friends birthday today because she seems to love that store. Those who helped me pick out things, thank you. I smiled up until my experience at the register checking out. The cashier was rude and now I wish I had her name. I told her she could keep the change before she opened the register. She proceeded to give me the change which was fine up until I said it one more time, and she replied by saying “too late I already closed it“. Therefore she heard me the first time, and just ignored me. It doesn’t sound like much but her demeanor and attitude completely ruined the experience and I will never be back. It was worth the money up until then. 1 star isn’t even deserved, Google Reviews just requires one.

Don't Try to Use Two Dollar Bills Here. They'll act like they've never seen them or accepted them before. This is America people.

Yelp
I am still so very upset about my visit here today. When I left this store, I attempted to try again at the other Durham location and no luck finding better service there. But as for my review, I went in looking for a specific jumper. I found a few very cute ones on the clearance rack...4 to be exact, along with 1 dress and 1 pair of workout pants. As I'm shopping I'm super excited that I had finally found the jumper I had been searching for and on top of that they were on clearance for $10 each. My 4 jumpers, dress and workout pants came to a total of about $60. When it was time to go into the fitting room to try things on, the sales associate said that the limit was 3 per fitting room at a time. Outside of the fitting room was a rack of clothes that I assume were from fitting room guests that had changed their minds about items and just stuck them on this particular rack to go back on the sale floor. When the sales associate said, "3 at a time" I immediately looked at this rake and asked the sales associate could I just hang my items on the back of my fitting room door. She says no, they have to go on this rack. I said out loud, "Someone's going to get my things, I know they are." She laughs it off, I sort out the 3 pieces I want to take in first and I complied with their ghetto, theft preventing rule. Because I KNEW it was just too good to be true that I could leave my 3 items on this rack and nothing would happen to them, I hurried up and tried each piece on just to hurry and get to the other 3 outside on the rack. And of course, the minute I walked out the fitting room the rack was empty. Not a single item left on the rack including the 3 pieces I left there. It took me so long to find the items I wanted that I put the 3 items on the rack that I had just finished trying on and I just walked out. I think they have been robbed so many times that they're treating everyone like their a thief by enforcing this stupid rule. 3 items isn't even a full outfit. The lady at the front register saw my frustration and still no one offered to help get my items back nor offered up an apology. I am so disgusted with Rainbow today. I have left a comment on Twitter as well so that hopefully I am contacted by the management team.
