On July 2nd, 2025, at 18:13 (6:13 PM), I had a very disappointing and disheartening experience at the Rainbow store located at 3500 North Roxboro Road in Durham, NC.
A young woman in all black attire, wearing an A&T University cap, appeared to be either a team lead, assistant manager, or a trainer, as she was showing another employee how to operate the register. When I came to the counter, there was no greeting, no acknowledgment, just an immediate comment that one of my items was mispriced and misplaced because it didn’t have a sticker. I explained that it came from a clearly labeled $3 rack, which had multiple items (at least three that I saw) that were also incorrectly placed there. I simply was trying to check out. I have no idea how the store keeps inventory or why I had to repeatedly tell the young lady where the items were found. Again, on the advertised rack.
After answering twice and returning to the counter a third time, I was stunned when this staff member aggressively asked, “Do you have a problem?” and accused me of having an attitude, simply because I was pointing out the ongoing issue of incorrectly priced merchandise and answered the question being asked. Yes, I do have a problem: with the unprofessionalism, the mismanagement of inventory, poor example of leadership, and the hostile customer service.
I’m genuinely confused as to why any staff member would think it’s okay to speak to a paying customer in that manner. The way she addressed me felt confrontational—as if she was ready to fight, not resolve a simple pricing issue. At that point, I just wanted to complete my purchase and leave the store, never to return.
I would not recommend this store to anyone, not friends, not family, not anyone who deserves to be treated with even the most basic respect and Human decency. Her energy was aggressive, unwelcoming, and unprofessional from start to finish. Unfortunately, the staff seemed in phased as if this was a normal occurrence.
I challenge regional and national management at Rainbow to visit this location incognito and experience firsthand how customers are being treated. Because what happened to me today is absolutely unacceptable, and it reflects very poorly on the Rainbow brand as a whole.
Next stop is BBB and strongly suggest Undercover Boss make a visit, provide basic professional, customer service, and people training.
I appreciate your time and attention to this matter.
