Texas Redditors Are Banding Together to Find Anti-Trump Restaurants to Patronize | Eater Houston

"Named by Redditors when vetting local and national businesses because it is part of the portfolio owned by Landry’s Hospitality Brands; the brand was mentioned in the context of ownership by Tilman Fertitta, who was described as 'Trump’s pick for Italian ambassador,' and therefore attracted scrutiny in the thread." - Courtney E. While this wasn't my first time to eat at one of these locations it was for my wife and she was excited to try it. The atmosphere was typical for the chain, but still looked good since it had been "refreshed" not long ago. The service was good and better than at the other locations I've tired. But the food was not impressive at all given the price. My wife liked her seafood combo and my Cobb salad was decent enough, but not "spectacular" or "outstanding" in any way and blatantly overpriced. While the overall experience wasn't bad it is highly doubtful we will consider eating here in the future.

Google
The Rainforest Cafe was a great experience. The food was very good and tasted fresh, and the atmosphere was truly amazing. The attention to detail in making it feel like an actual rainforest is incredible — it really adds to the whole experience. It’s definitely a family-oriented restaurant, and my 2-year-old niece absolutely loved it. The service was okay, nothing exceptional, but overall it was a fun and enjoyable place to visit.

We visited the Rainforest Café in Katy Mills, TX for lunch to celebrate my husband’s and my son’s birthdays, and it was such a fun and memorable experience! The location was easy to find, and since we made a reservation ahead of time, we were seated right away. This was a pleasant surprise since I’ve usually had to wait at other Rainforest Café locations around the country. Our server, Toni, was OUTSTANDING! She was so kind and patient with our kids, especially with my son who was a little scared of the gorilla near our table. Toni took the time to answer all our menu questions and checked in with us often to make sure we had everything we needed. She truly went above and beyond to make our visit special. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was just as lively and fun as we remembered. The highlight of our meal was when the team brought out the Volcano dessert and sang happy birthday to my boys, which was such a joyful and sweet moment! We left with full bellies and big smiles. I highly recommend this Rainforest Café and will definitely return the next time our travels take us back to Katy!

Google
We went for lunch on a weekday, so it was almost entirely empty. I think that worked out well so it wasn’t so overwhelming for a toddler! Our server was so kind, and our food was delicious. I do think it is crazy expensive, but it tasted so good and the experience was so fun for my kid that I think it was worth it.

Google
Ok we absolutely LOVED this Rainforest Cafe in Katy! We normally go to the Galveston location but explored this one for a Dora Breakfast event and it was phenomenal!!! The breakfast plate and server were a 10/10 & I really liked that the kids could take pics with Dora and they even had a craft table that was included in the ticket price and they had a raffle with multiple winners!! Highly recommend this location and parking is FREE!!! - @thathoustonmom

Google
Fantastic food and service. Our first time here and the atmosphere was amazing. It is great for kids and families. I had the new chicken bruschetta and it was amazing. I’ll definitely return!

Google
This was a most AMAZING place to celebrate my birthday. I LOVED every minute of it. & Heather was the most AWESOME server EVER. Thank you Dewey for this experience.

Google
We received great service at the rainforest cafe. Our waitress Toni, took our order and checked up on us when needed. We have a toddler and a baby and she made sure to take care of our food in a timely manner which we really appreciated.

Yelp
I took my family to Rainforest Cafe here only because we had a good amount of gift cards to use. I never had a good memory for this place as it use to be musky, sticky and food was vastly mediocre back in the late 90's. Upon further investigation, this location underwent a $2.5 million renovation only 2 months ago (LOL) But since I had gift cards, sure why not. I brought my 2 year old daughter here for her birthday and I was actually rather impressed with how things are. There are enough of things I remembered, the animatronics, the atmosphere and the gift store in the front. However things aren't as bad as I remember them. Perhaps they got rid of the must and did a remodel or something, but my current experience was alot better than back in the late 90s. The food was actually alot better too. I ordered the fish and chips and ended up not even eating half the amount. My wife got the Cajun pasta and it was a very healthy portion of it. It was salty but good amount. My baby got a large portion of chickie nuggies with mac and cheese so it was great. Prices weren't exactly cheap, but with the impressive amount they gave us, its workable. Our waiter Johnny was fantastic, good attitude and not helicoptering. Overall our family had a fantastic time at Rainforest Cafe, I'm glad it has erased my not so fond memories from back in the last century. Imagine my 2 year old's mind when the sparkling volcano dessert came out.

Yelp
Review for 4/19.. Had a great time at Rainforest Cafe! The energy in the place was really fun and lively--definitely a cool vibe. I didn't have any food, just drinks, and they did not disappoint. I had three tequila lemon drops (so good!) and tried one of their $14 drinks from the menu--it was blue, strong, and surprisingly tasty. Alicia was my bartender and she was awesome--super funny, had great customer service, and just made the experience even better. Honestly, it turned out to be a great spot to chill, grab some strong drinks, and even catch a game. Definitely a pleasant surprise!

Yelp
Took our daughter here tonight for her birthday. We were seated right away and had drink orders promptly. The food was ok, honestly food was about 3.5 stars. I am giving the restaurant 5 stars because of our server. Syoriah was amazing. She was attentive, friendly and just all around a great server. Highly recommend asking for her if you visit.

Yelp
We went for my son's birthday. I recommend making a reservation for dinner because it gets very busy really quick. My kids loved the experience so much to look at. I really loved that the kids meals were served in kid plates (divided into 3 sections) made my kids feel like they were eating dinner at home. As a parent really appreciate clean highchairs with straps. Our server was so nice and I wish I remembered her name. She had a full party behind us and still took great care of us as well. We had a great time and would recommend for birthdays with the kiddos

Yelp
I meet my niece and sister here and you can tell this is a child's dream restaurant. The restaurant is super cute but a bit loud from all the animation going on. My niece got the cheese pizza with fruit. I was surprised the fruit was pineapple. The pineapple looked dry, but it was actually really good. My niece really enjoyed the thin crust pizza. My sister got the BBQ burger that she said was good but could use more bbq sauce. My pasta said spicy and the waitress also warming that I was spicy, but I love spicy so I was all for it. The spice was spicy, but it was really flavorful and it came with tons of meat. To top off the entire staff are extremely friendly. It feels like they are revamping for people to come back and it is working.

Yelp
We had a party of 9 on a Sunday for an early dinner. The restaurant has plenty of seating and ofc the decor with the animals are probably the best part of the whole experience. The waiters were nice but service was overall pretty slow for being one of the only tables seated. Pastalaya and Creole mac and cheese were flavorful, but the prices are expensive for what it's worth. Portions were decent. Drinks were a miss, unfortunately. Overall 3.5/5.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
I grew up in the NOLA area but remember going to Rainforest Cafe when we'd travel. If you're wanting the full on "rainforest thunderstorm" experience where the animals go ballistic, I'd wait a bit - a lot of those exhibits are under construction at this time. That said, now that I live in Houston, I was THRILLED when my SIL planned my nephew's birthday party here a few weeks ago. The staff went above and beyond to make his day special. In addition, I'm gluten intolerant and love the gluten-free options the menu offers. I got the turkey club on GF bread. My husband ordered the same (after his seasonal sandwich was sold out). Their drink menu is quite large, and the collectible cups are always an added bonus. Service was a bit slow, but we truly enjoyed our time together. The manager also came by a few times to ensure our water/drink glasses remained full. He was so kind and caring. If we're in the area again, we'll be back!
google avatar

Luis O.

Yelp
This is our first experience and it has been an amazing one. All of the staff are wholesomely awesome. The vibe and experience is perfect for the kids. If you have never been and have wondered, don't wait. Check out my Ribs w/ fries picture. Huge! The server has been great-The manager did a table visit. This separates just a dining time to a dining experience.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! The atmosphere was so neat. I haven't been here in 15 years - so while we were on vacation we had to stop. Service was a little slow at first but the server was amazing and very sweet. We had a volcano dessert for a birthday celebration and it was SOO GOOD! 10/10 recommend - if you're in the area!

Yelp
Took my little brother here 2 days ago, he was really excited because hes really into animals , however, Attractions were closed:(, he was really sad and me too since we drove an hour. However food was good and server John was really

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try at the mall and the atmosphere was very welcoming and beautiful the decor really made me feel like I was in the rainforest. Our waitress was out of this world she was so sweet and helpful thanks Alessandra for being an amazing waitress. We tried the appetizer plater and it was so good 10/10, the chicken and shrimp was flavorful. Will definitely be coming in here next time I'm shopping at the mall.

Yelp
We've gone to the one in San Francisco. Same rainforest vibes. Lots of seating. We asked for a booth but they claimed there were none available. Clearly there were some available-- but I think they couldn't seat a party of 3 only on the booths. So we settled for a table. Service wasn't the best. Our waiter placed the orders. But I think the cooks were the ones who messed up. Our main dinner arrived first, then our appetizers came afterwards. So we ate everything all at once-- and we didn't like that. They don't have a system like most restaurants do. Plates we were done with-- were left on our table for very long time. This was a one and done. The best way I could describe the food-- DRY and not freshly made. If they were freshly made, they might've been sitting out on food warmers or something-- because you can definitely tell with food textures. Appetizers (even if they arrived last): Awesome Appetizer Adventure 3/10 overall - arrived after our main dinner arrived. Egg rolls were dry and not crunchy, but flavor was there. Dip was dry and not creamy and smooth. Chicken tender didn't have much flavor, mozzarella was decent. Steak, garlic butter shrimp, coconut shrimp and rice-- 2/10 I asked for medium and they gave me a VERY DRY medium-well. Garlic shrimp and coconut shrimp were ok. Rice was bland. That steak ruined it for me. Pork chops-- 4/10 Kids cheeseburger and fries + Lava Mud dessert-- 7/10 Chocolate Volcano-- 5/10 pretty huge serving First impression, service and quality of food was NOT it for us. I don't think we'll be back again.

Yelp
I was pretty impressed with my experience at the rainforest cafe in Katy. The food was delicious, the ambiance was good, and the service was decent. I got the chicken fried chicken as my entree. It was really delicious and very flavorful. I would happily order this again. The hurricane drink was just ok, not the best I've had. I was also a little disappointed by the ambiance, I expected it to be a bit more realistic, but this was my first time at a rainforest cafe. This was a cool experience and I'm glad I went, I'd go again for sure. Great food options for adults and kids
google avatar

Victoria H.

Yelp
I really still like going to this Rainforest Cafe, it's fun, tropical and has great food. This particular visit we came to just have a couples night out my husband is comfortable always having the fajitas and me they had new items so I tried the Bombay Chicken and Shrimp I want to prepare you that if you like spicy but so GOOD wish there was more shrimp, it eats like a gumbo so if you like gumbo give this dish a shot. We liked our waiter but wish he had been more attentive and kept my tea glass full. He did not check on us as often as I would have liked, if the restaurant had of been busy I could understand but they were not at the hour we had dinner. Another note: in the gift shop area there are not enough adult items or sizes in clothing for we adults who would like to take something home other than a coffee mug.
google avatar

Janet N.

Yelp
My kids always want to come here to eat since they like the environment and the kids menu. The food is always good and flavorful. The service is a hit or miss.
google avatar

Sandra K.

Yelp
Four stars for excellent service. Food was three stars so good enough but not anything wow. It's a place for your kids and family and that's what you're really paying for. The kids meal was perfect with the Dino shaped nuggets but my kid was so mesmerized by the scenery that he forgot to eat all of his food. I got the beef taco salad which was good enough.
google avatar

Pamela R.

Yelp
Syoriah was the best server for our family today. She stayed on top of making sure we had everything we needed and she was very helpful. We enjoyed our visit today.

William A.

Yelp
Horrible service! Management (Laressa) does not care. Ambience is non-existent!!! Run away! Go anywhere but here! Afterall this place has a 2.9 rating. Kids hated it! Food was always okay but now with no show run away!

Danny J.

Yelp
The ambiance was really nice, especially for kids. The food was okay, but maybe a little overpriced. You're paying for the ambiance though. One person ordered beef nachos and didn't notice any beef in it at all. The lettuce wraps are pretty good, and the creole pasta was good, but wish the sauce was thicker.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
The wait was long for our table at 3PM but then even longer after we waited. We told them it was two peoples birthdays and they offered a volcano cake and then we were hit with the $20 cake that was hard to get your spoon into.
google avatar

Annamarie M.

Yelp
I HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! The food was so good and memorable. The server was very kind and always on her job! The restaurant was clean and very spacious
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
My wife and I shared a platter of beef and chicken fajitas with a few trimmings, flour tortillas, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, guacamole, sour cream, beans and rice. Our grandbaby enjoyed looking around and her mom and dad shared another fajita combo plate. They keep it pretty dark to help you think you're in a jungle so my pics are few and dark.
google avatar

Janice M.

Yelp
Pricey. Service not the best. & food not the best either. Under construction I think so even the "rain forest" effects were not that great. Been to much better ones in other locations.
google avatar

Leigh C.

Yelp
Our server James C. was awesome! He took our picture, and made sure the kids had a wonderful time.
google avatar

Angelia V.

Yelp
Wonderful service! Everyone we encountered was very friendly and attentive. Our server was Alle (I hope I spelled that right) and she was training but did so well. She was so sweet and always made sure we were taken care of. Her trainer and another gentleman (I think the manager) were also super nice and always checked in on us. It's been a long time since I've been to a Rainforest Cafe but it's just as fun as I remember it as a kid. The food was pretty good too. These kinds of places aren't really somewhere you go if you're looking for amazing food. It's more for the experience but I was surprised by the food being as good as it was. The only negative was the women's restroom. It was really dirty and smelled bad. There were other customers inside complaining about it too. Other than that we had a great experience.

Aaliyah E.

Yelp
My husband and I had a terrible experience. When our food arrived, it looked like it had been microwaved or sitting out for a while. We told the manager it didn't look appetizing, but she just pulled out the menu with a bad attitude and showed us that it was what we ordered. We never said the order was wrong, just that it didn't look good to eat. When I tried to explain again, she cut me off and said she'd be back with the bill, only charging us for the appetizer. Our waitress took a long time between visits, and the manager also took a long time to bring us our check, doing a birthday celebration in between. Frustrated, my husband and I went to the host bar to pay, as we were ready to leave the poor establishment. With my husband's card already in the folder to pay, the manager rushed towards us, accusing us of trying to dine and dash and belittling us like children. It was very unprofessional.

Yelp
My son wanted to go here for his Birthday with a few friends and we had an amazing experience. Our waiter James Castellano was so sweet and made sure everything was taken care of for us. We ended up leaving and then had to go back about a billing question after checking my bank account. The manager was so sweet in helping out and then told us we forgot a phone at the table. The experience was fun for the kids and we all enjoyed the food and service. Thank you Rainforest Cafe for making my son's birthday special.

Renee S.

Yelp
We went with a party of 14ppl. Syoriah was our server and was on point! She paced our meal perfectly and we always had refills and dirty plates removed. The food was exceptional, as always. 5 stars across the board!

Moiz U.

Yelp
Animals are cool Cool monkeys everywhere Food was cool Fish and chippy chips Mac and cheese
google avatar

Brandon R.

Yelp
Our kids always enjoy coming here, but today Marissa N knocked it out of the park with her stellar service! So friendly, prompt, and attentive! Food is always good! And the kids are always entertained by the noises and movements lol! Thanks from a long time Landry member
google avatar

Teresa K.

Yelp
Enjoyed a great lunch with the family here at this location here in Katy. The kids loved the animals displayed in the place. Our waiter Darion was very friendly and courteous! He was quick to refill our beverages and tend to us. Next time we visit, we will request to have him as our server again .

Sherill M.

Yelp
Should have read the reviews. Yucky sticky table, menus and filthy chairs. Watered down cocktails (and I'm a lightweight). I got my own silverware from a nearby table. My water and kids juice never even arrived. That kids menu pizza is inedible. Cheese and ketchup on some stale pita bread. Just thinking about this disgusting place makes me want to hurl.
google avatar

Raelee J.

Yelp
Me and my friends were DETERMINED to go here during our road trip. Not sure why. Pretty sure we just wanted the nostalgia factor. So to be honest, we weren't expecting our food to be all that good. 1: Our waitress was FANTASTIC. Best server me and my friends had that whole trip. Attentive and very sweet. She EARNED that tip. 2: The food was a lot better than we expected. My pasta wasn't amazing, but it was alright. The spinach dip though...omg...amazing. Both of my friends enjoyed their food as well. I will admit, for the price of the food, I'm not sure if it's worth it. It is a bit pricy for what it is. But if you're thinking about taking a trip for the nostalgia, I 100% recommend. The restaurant decor alone is enough reason to go.
google avatar

Tranika T.

Yelp
We arrived at 11:05 am for my mom's birthday and I warned my mom that I had read the reviews online and they were terrible! However she wanted to go anyway. 3 adults and two kids and the two hosts up front seemed quite confused as to where to seat us for some reason as if the restaurant was packed! Finally seated we we're basically ignored for about 20 minutes. Absolutely no one came to our table. We got up and left and went to Cheesecake Factory next door where the service was exceedingly better!
google avatar

Jenn L.

Yelp
I had reservations for a large group on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. We arrived 15 minutes before our scheduled reservation time and were told by the hostesses that 80% of our party had to be present in order for us to be seated. OK, that's understandable. So we roamed the gift shop while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. It was 5 minutes before our scheduled reservation time and our entire party of 16 people approached the podium. The same hostesses that we checked-in with initially, who were very much aware of our reservation, asked if 80% of our party was present. Seriously? There's literally a mob of people standing in front of you. But okay. Then one hostess mouths to the other something along the lines of "Can you set up [the table]?" and she mouths back "I don't want to". So instead of getting the table ready for a large group you were expecting, you just stood there snacking on whatever from a Rainforest Cafe kids cup? At this point, I was super annoyed but was determined not to let it ruin my kid's birthday dinner and I, honestly, already had pretty low expectations coming in. Things definitely took a turn for the better when we were serviced by waitress SYORIAH! Thank goodness for her patience, attentiveness, great attitude, and awesome service because that's what made our night! If you're visiting this location, ask for her and you'll have a great time! Everyone enjoyed their meals, especially the birthday boy, who loved the "live entertainment" from the rainstorms and animatronics. All in all, we had great service from Syoriah, tasty hot food, and a memorable time. I'm glad I didn't let the rude and disrespectful hostess experience set the mood for the night.

Yelp
The serving staff are trying bud highly unorganized and the lack of a visible floor manager is what adds to their confusion and bad performance. I think the food is alright and they're never known for it all these years. They do need reservations for a halfway decent table on weekends. Rarely do they do walk-ins with gusto. This place is really for the kids and the robotic animals and sounds are fun for them. One thing that's been really disappointing even more so than the food is the staff constantly forgets the basics. Napkins, SILVERWARE, straws? To go boxes? Get it together and be on the look out for other tables needing help. Stop ignoring tables that "aren't in your section". (Yes I used to be a waiter too). Even if the food is bleh- at least make the service worthwhile. I also overheard the front seating staff intentionally put us into a section where they said a specific server "really needed the tips" and that customers weren't "tipping him well". Well- do ya think there's a reason for that? C- effort, D+ food quality, D- for their staff professionalism and management.

Fd M.

Yelp
Came here on Easter Sunday and it was good. My server was Erin and she was amazing and attentive. The food took a long time to come to the table but during the wait Erin came over and did "tours" and gave fun little facts about the animals in the Restaurant to keep the children entertained and they loved it. When the food did come it tasted good. My kids truly enjoyed the thunderstorms and I love the new LED display on the ceiling. Will be back in the future!

kaner a.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Had a reservation, place is 80% empty, was placed in a corner for 5, kindly asked if we can get moved more to the center (it's my 2 year olds birthday) so the kids can get better view and for some reason we couldn't get accommodated because tables are allocated specifically to reservation? We're here now? And it's not like there will be a shortage due to a table change? Bad bad management could not find the courtesy to accommodate a family dining with a simple request
google avatar

Elizabeth Y.

Yelp
This restaurant has really made improvements in their food, the service and Ambiance. We had chixken quesadillas, lava nachos and the turkey wrap. All the were delicious as was the key lime pie.

Dawn S.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible! From the service to the food, this will be the last time at this restaurant. The waitress took over 20 minutes to bring two beers to my table. Keep in mind that the restaurant is full of empty tables. Not busy at all. The egg rolls had to have been sitting under a heat light since morning because they were hard and dried up. The mixed drinks were nothing but fruit juice, but I knew that in advance because that is how they always are, not good. Do better! Are you will be out of business in no time.

Christi L.

Yelp
Stopped by the rain forest cafe while spring breaking with my grandson and he loved, loved, loved the vibe & pizza of course! Our server James, was positively pleasant in serving our dining needs. THANKS James C for an awesome experience!

Michael G.

Yelp
1 bite in and I knew my food wasn't cooked all the way. our waitress hardly came so I couldn't request a new burger. From that one bite, I ended up getting sick the next day throwing up on my way to work...0/10, would not recommend to anyone.

Yelp
The food was great and our server KeKe was so sweet accurate and happy more like her are needed The ambiance was refreshing Thank you

Yelp

Yelp
Wonderful time with the kids! Always go in with low expectations at places like this, but service was next level and our waitress Sherita was so amazing! Kids were made to feel like the priority and they loved it! Definitely recommend this location :)

Yelp
Tori is rad. We had a great time. The awesome appetizer has something for everybody. More restaurants should have elephants.

Yelp
Fun place to eat lunch! Was sat super quickly and greeted promptly by our waitress, Crystal. She was great and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our dining experience. The food was on another level and we enjoyed the amazing appetizer adventure the most. Thanks Crystal for being the best :-)

Yelp
Decided to take my daughter here for her bday. To my surprise the place was filled with birthday parties. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. The chef spent time coming out to each table to make sure everyone was well taken care of. The food was to my liking and a generous portion I might add. Overall my daughter loved the experience and I thank them for the experience.

Yelp
Well. This is an amazing experience. I've been to the Katy location many times, but I want to tell about the new changes. After the menu changes and renovations I am loving what this place now is. First, the service is amazing. I've never met genuinely nice waiters like these ones before. I feel like I took chemistry in high school with these people. For food, I love the new additions to the menu. I ordered the "Jungle Turkey Wrap." And what a wrap it was. It consists of shredded turkey breast, lettuce, ceaser sauce, bacon, tomatoes, and honestly, they might have a priest in the kitchen blessing the food before it comes out because it was the best meal I've had since I ordered it the first time just yesterday. The flavors hit you all at the same time, but eventually all stand out, the bacon and lettuce provided a nice crunch that evens the turkey. And the tomatos are almost perfectly chosen to be in east spot. They hit on random occurrence, and it gut punches you with a refreshing savory taste. One thing that I noticed, was that this barely falls apart. Unless you can mess up holding a coke can, the foods not going anywhere. As for the side, it comes with safari fries. Eating these are like meeting an old friend, and you're happy to see him, but then you realize that you forgot his name, but right as you trade contacts, he tells you how to spell his name. And that's a direct quote from my friend- uh- Finally ambiance. Do I really have to say anything? This is probably the most immersive jungle themed restaurant I've been to. Which I realize isn't saying much, but if Jack Black becomes president, there will be a second one I swear! Overall, this is seriously one of my favorite restaurants, and deserves all of your attention for trips to the mall.
