Houston Restaurateur Tilman Fertitta Plans to Resign From Landry’s | Eater Houston

"Recorded in the March 20, 2025 ethics submission as one of the restaurants and related entities the owner will resign from and divest if confirmed. In addition to the brand itself, the owner says he will step down from an associated philanthropic entity (the Friends of the Future Foundation). The filing reiterates that he will forfeit promised severance, receive deferred compensation as a lump sum, maintain only a passive interest, and that he “will not provide services material to the production of income.”" - Courtney E. Smith

Took our kids (2 & 6) they both enjoyed the restaurant! Had an issue with our order but they fixed it immediately! My only complaint.. Prices on the temporary menu weren't posted. When asking our waitress she told us a certain item was $24.99 when we received the bill it was $44.99. The steak was good but not worth $44.99. The complimentary family picture was a nice touch! The photographer was very friendly! Overall it was a great experience!

I brought my kids and their friends, and they all had an amazing time! We’ve been coming here for years, but it was their friends’ first visit—and they absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, and the entire experience was so much fun. Our server, Riley, was fantastic—so kind and attentive. We really appreciated her! I also love that you have Jade taking photos; she was incredibly sweet and creative.

We had the best Father’s Day lunch! We got seated at our preferred booth by the elephants, and our server, Brandy, was kind, fun, knowledgeable, and professional. She made sure we got exactly what we wanted, including a drink to go!

Google
The service was great and the food was delicious. It's a fun place to enjoy a meal. Just a warning it is a little loud there, with the sounds they play, but that's just part of it. The aquariums are cool with all of the different fish. They have a nice gift shop. If you have children, be warned, there's a lot of stuff to look at in the gift shop. You might not walk out empty handed, your wallet will be lighter.

Everything was perfect. Down to the tiny details. The animals where expressive and entertaining. The ambience means it doesn't need any TV. The thunderstorms happen every 30 minutes and are loud but exciting. The food is delicious. I would highly recommend the rasta pasta. We got a free photo and a souvenir cup that lights up. The entire staff was very kind and improved my day. I would recommend getting a reservation ahead though. Even the bathrooms where decorated.

We recently visited Rainforest Cafe and had Will Heuss as our server. He was outstanding! Will was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. He explained the menu well, checked in on us at the right times, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The food and atmosphere were great, but Will’s excellent service truly stood out. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
This place was a 10/10 I had the my sirloin steak and it was to die for. Everything was fresh and prepared just the right way. The drinks were good and the kids meal with the cups were worth every penny. Thanks to the manager; he made our experience more eventful. You guys rock. Great job

First time here and we absolutely loved this place. The waitress was great and she was polite. The food was really good. I loved the low lights while eating. The jungle look was awesome. A bit pricey though.

Yelp
This place was amazing. From the ambiance to the service to the amazing food. Our grandchildren loved it!

Yelp
Birthday lunch! Amber was our server. Friendly, helpful and speedy. I love the rainforest ambiance. The lightening. Tigers, elephants, apes, fish are definitely conversation pieces. I felt like an overhyped kid. The theatrics are like no other. Kid balloons being made, a lot of picturesque moments. I got a birthday song serenade and you will get an dessert items with your song but I just had to have the volcano dessert which consisted of brownie, cake, candy rock , sprinkles, ice cream and whip cream . It's pricy but hey it's my birthday. Food ordered was quesadillas, Cajun jerk shrimp pasta, steamed veggies, and a spicy dish called Pastalaya (spicy) which is shrimp, sautéed chicken , bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, andouille sausage , hot and spicy Cajun sauce, linguine. This dish so good I ordered an extra to bring home. Drinks pina colada and I ordered an island margarita ( tequila , pineapple puree, triple sec, sweet and sour , pineapple and lime juices. Prices were reasonable. Great for birthday parties, reservations are recommended. Restroom clean , check website for days and hours of operation.

Yelp
I'm going to start with the gift shop experience. So, there is a lot to offer and almost all of it is cute! There was this one panda plush ($70 ) that I wanted to get. The employee - who I wish I had gotten the name of - noticed I kept going back to it and offered me 10% off. I know this is definitely a sales tactic, but since I was going to buy it anyways, I took her up on the offer. The actual restaurant was really cool! To start with the positives: the food was actually really good. Usually places like this where it's gimmicky tend to have lower quality food, but it was actually surprisingly really good (albeit a bit expensive)! The service was also decent. Now the negatives. One of my party members received the wrong beverage, likely due to the fact that it's really loud in the restaurant. They also promised a free family photo, but after getting it done - it was a scam. The free one is on a small piece of paper with the actual photos costing $20. And they already print it and have it ready to show you and then talk about the cost without mentioning the free one until you deny the ones that cost money. Trying to finagle the pictures around while eating also caused some beans to fall onto my clothing. Sort of a side note, but we were wondering how it wouldn't be incredibly dusty with all of the leaves and small intricacies in decor. Overall, the food was great, but I do not think I will be back anytime soon. I think if there was some sort of free appetizer it would be better as it did take some time to receive our food.

Yelp
Obvious this is a touristy restaurant. It's not meant for amazing food, but the novelty of going. It is moreso quite expensive for meals, including kids. It was $22 for an appetizer that came with some good food, but nothing you can't get a chilis a couple doors down for cheaper. The atmosphere is obvious loud and storming inside noise wise. If you are looking for a relaxing environment to talk; this isn't it. The food isn't terrible, it just isn't worth the price you pay. If you have kids, they do it right. The gift shop is right up front so you aren't getting out without a toy or stuffed animal.

Yelp
The Rainforest Cafe was an OK experience. It was not a bad experience, but not the worst. On our particular visit, our service was not great at all. Our server had a very hard time with waiting on our table and getting our food out, etc. It was not great. I expected better for the price point. I did enjoy the robotic animals and the thunderstorm that was simulated every 30 minutes. That was pretty cool! The retail shop also has a large selection of souvenir types of items for purchase if you choose to do so. The atmosphere really felt like you were in a rainforest. The food was okay. I had the anaconda pasta which was vegetarian. It was okay. It wasn't the best I have had, but not the worst either. The pasta had a decent flavor, but was somewhat bland. It does get really busy as it is a touristy restaurant, so reservations are a must. Overall, I recommend the Rainforest Cafe for a decent dining experience.

Yelp
Host was very friendly and suggested we sit at the bar to prevent the 45 minute wait time. We did just that! The bartender was nice enough, he originally seemed much more interested in the couple that sat down after us, asking for their orders before us; that kind of stuff. But after they got sat at their table, he was much more attentive. This appeared to be because we were not drinking alcohol... we would have loved to have alcohol but we were in charge of 15 kids at the time and were not about to consume alcohol! My husband and I each ordered the Cobb salad and it was good. It would have been much tastier if they would use something other than just iceberg lettuce; maybe a spring mix even. But it was a very good salad and I would order it again. We both got the dressing on the side, I ended up also getting a side of ranch and it mixed together nicely.

Yelp
Food and ambiance were amazing! We stopped here while visiting Nashville for spring break, and I'm so glad we did! We had amazing service, very attentive and welcoming! We have a an Autistic child, and they were so helpful in making sure he was sat in a comfortable spot, and made sure his food was separated on different plates for him! Hands down one of the best experiences we had in being accepted in a restaurant! Thank you for your kindness and understanding!:)

Yelp
Definitely a good place to try as a tourist, since it's such a niche experience. Note: The food portions are large and along with an appetizer- come hungry! Overall, the food is good and overall great options. If you are monitoring your salt intake, this place may not be the best choice, as it is "seasoned".

Yelp
We stopped in late after reading that Rainforest Cafe was recommended for those with allergies. The restaurant is very cute and charismatic. It boasts a thunderstorm and moving animatronic animals. It's a quirky experience that my toddler and husband enjoyed. The service was fantastic, funny and caring. When we informed the server of our child's allergy to dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and grapes he brought out the manager and made sure we had safe food for our daughter to eat. This is the most care I have received at a restaurant for food allergies. What I didn't care for was my food because I had anticipated a more authentic style Cuban. My husband loved his pulled pork burger. Service here is five stars. We'd be happy to return again in the future.

Yelp
Great experience to take with the family love the gift shop items price very well establish very friendly we made reservation so we got seated on time. The turkey club was good. Did not like the taste of the steak Fajitas, the salmon shrimp dish was pretty good however, the fish tacos they could have been better on top of that. Our server gave my plate to a different table and then brought it to my table, the bathrooms were decent towards the back. It was certainly an experience.

Yelp

Yelp
Went to rainforest cafe Nashville for my son's first birthday with my family that came in from out of town. Thought it would be nice to bring my son here as I came here growing up. After being there, we noticed a couple came in with no children behind us. They were wearing all black and had strange behavior. We quickly realized that the man was masturbating under the table while his girlfriend sat there and looked him in the eye while doing it. He noticed us notice him. He took his hand out of his pants and wiped it on his shirt. Not only were we nervous to say anything, we were absolutely sick to our stomachs that this was happening in front of a room full of children. Absolutely SICK. We quietly finished our $200+ dinner that we splurged on for my son's birthday. We told two managers and all they had to offer was "oh yeah we have seen them before. We see weird things all the time working in restaurants". I'm sorry... but does this not disturb you that this is happening in your restaurant in front of children. Do you condone this behavior? I have reached out through a few channels and received no response. My entire family is absolutely distraught about the whole situation. A company of this magnitude should be jumping on this. Guess it doesn't bother them.

Heather R.

Yelp
I was really excited to eat here because i do not have one where I live. We were seated on a non busy Wednesday afternoon and no one ever acknowledged us or took our order so we left. Such a disappointment... we traveled from California.

Yelp
The service was good, and just being honest, taking a 18 month old there that loves animals was just an incredible experience. He got to watch elephants roar throughout our meal and ate a high pile of dino nuggets and popcorn shrimp at great value. And they had some kind of Asian lettuce wrap that was actually incredible for an appetizer. All of those were 5/5 situationally. The dinner itself however was just not very good. "Pastalaya" was a 2/5. "Shrimp Tacos" were a 2.5/5. The chicken Alfredo wasn't much better. Go, get some drinks, eat a bunch of apps and have a great time.

Yelp
The Rainforest Cafe has long been a whimsical adventurous place we love to visit whenever we can. There are sadly not many left but this one was extraordinary! We had low expectations on the meal itself because we usually go for the atmosphere but we were actually really pleasantly surprised by how amazing everything was. Our server took amazing care of us, especially because I have autoimmune diseases with severe diet limitations. She was so patient and really took her time to make sure we received a good meal. That was all allergy safe.

Yelp
Good food good service reasonably priced. Brought home souvenirs to put on the refrigerator. Iconic restaurant in Nashville

Yelp
My wife, youngest son, and I tried this place after the Tennessee Titans game since we don't have one locally in Alabama. First and foremost, the environment is really neat to see. The thunderstorms that come about every 30 minutes gets a reaction out of the motorized animals throughout the establishment. The waitress we had was very attentive and stayed on top of drinks and getting our food out to as quickly as possible. The food: I have mixed emotions on it. I really wanted it to be good, but felt as though it was a little bland. That being said, my wife had the Bombay Chicken and Shrimp. I tried it and it wasn't bad, but expected a little more kick with the curry. My son had the Python Pasta Chicken and it was the best of all three meals. He really liked it! I had the Pastalaya. It wasn't bad, but needed some more spice. The volcano dessert was really good and can easily be split with the family! We're going to give it another shot we're in Nashville and try different entrees.
google avatar

Mara R.

Yelp
Horrible! Sat at the bar- 2 sometimes three gals behind the bar. Didn't say hi didn't acknowledge us AT ALL! Three other people sitting there had their drinks had their food. We smiled at two of the gals and NOTHING! Sat there what felt like forever but was probably about 5 minutes- that's 4 minutes TOO LONG to be greeted! We told the beautiful kind hostess to please let the manager know they lost business.

Yelp
Victoria was my server, right off the bat I knew she was going to be great with how fast she was moving between her tables, she had a smile on her face while keeping up with everyone, I told her it was my birthday and I want to get the volcano, which she brought out to me and even brought out the birthday cupcake for my little girl, she was very patient with me and my 5 year old and took really good care of us making shore I had everything I needed, I will definitely be asking for her again when I go back, I don't typically write reviews on servers because I like top notch service, and she exceeded the service that I like so I just had to come on here and do a review for her, I will definitely ask for Victoria when you go to the rainforest Café you won't regret it

Cliff P.

Yelp
I like the place although it can be a little loud when they play the thunder and lightning. The Turkey club was good and the fries were excellent. The Korean stir fry was pretty good but was a little sweeter than I expected and could have used more rice.

Heather M.

Yelp
Rainforest Cafe is such a unique restaurant. Amber is a great server. She is very attentive and has such a fun personality. The atmosphere and service make it worthwhile. Will continue to recommend this location!

Yelp
As long as I've been living here in TN. This is my first time dining in rain forest. Since it was my daughter birthday we thought we come and give it a try. Well I would have to say it's a fun environment for dining in with our kiddos. The fun cool drink cup options definitely will have you wanting to buy all. Rain forest restaurant celebrate lots of birthday here and we thought we would get the birthday lava brownie. I would say $18 for dessert was a bit expensive. Paying for ambiance here was a good experience and great service.

Blaine M.

Yelp
Great experience for my family who has never been here, but HORRIBLE service. After an hour of waiting we finally get our drinks only to find out the machine "broke" that makes the freeze drinks for the kids. Mind you; we saw multiple people receive them after our order. The waitress had no problem leaving our cups empty and messing up our check not once, twice, but 3 times! The manager told my wife and I that "he'd take care of it" and failed to do anything to make the whole situation right. Poor customer service all around.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Service was great, kids loved the atmosphere. I'd equate the food to amusement park food. Nothing special but the kids were happy and again, the service was amazing. Some things were bland like chicken tenders and that seems hard to mess up. But overall good for a meal after the waterpark.

Krista S.

Yelp
I always wanted to eat at the Las Vegas rainforest cafe, but never made it. I was so happy to see one in Nashville. The atmosphere is fun. I read a lot of bad reviews on the service, which I did not experience. The only complaint was the appetizer came out only 1-2 minutes before the dinner. Not a real bad complaint. I recommend it and will make an attempt to go to the one in Vegas.
google avatar

Emily N.

Yelp
The food was pretty good but I did think it was pretty pricy. Not as many animals or things to look at like I thought. It was a pretty cool atmosphere. I got the wrap it was pretty good loved the fries. did not like the coleslaw at all. You got to take home the glass

Yelp
I started my day trying to make reservations but could not get website to work. After calling the restaurant I got our reservations in and was excited to take my family for our first visit. When we got to the restaurant we where promply seated, not the best seating but was seated. The server then started to explain the special themes of the place and told us about headphones for the kids for the thunder storm gimmick before I could ask for some he was gone. He next came back with our drinks and we placed our order and he vanished again I didnt see him till some other servers brought out our food. This is where my past restaurant work came back. My order was taste of the islands . The veggies where not cooked all the way through (it was just supposed to be steamed). The shrimp was over battered and burnt it was like hitting charcoal on a plate. Then the other shrimp was over seasoned (how does some hit the full spectrum of chief don'ts). One of my kids wanted hot dogs they brought 2 things that had been roasting under a heat lamp to long and boy they tasted nasty my kids normally eat anything but totaly refused to eat it (thats bad). Sure the place was clean, but from my point of view if they can't cook might as well clean... Might just of gone to the Aquarium and had a better meal for cheaper the cost just saying.

Pamela H.

Yelp
Food was tasty! Service was good! Atmosphere was a lot of fun! Highly recommend for kids of all ages lol

April J.

Yelp
Amber was AMAZING to my family and I Monday night. Attentive and very Friendly. Ask for AMBER when u go to rainforest cafe!!! I will ask for her everytime i go from now on
google avatar

Yelp
The Rainforest Cafe did not disappoint! Somehow my first time ever visiting. Definitely more family oriented but we had fun! If you're not aware it's a rainforest atmosphere with animatronic animals as well as aquariums full of beautiful fish. The service was great, food was fast, and tasted great. Stay for a storm and see the animals get wild.

Diane J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food was served hot and tasted great, Hayley was a great server and took very good care of us. I highly recommend Rainforest Cafe at Opry MIlls Mall, Nashville, TN. The animatronics were really cool.

Yelp
Always wanted to come to this place as a kid every time I visited Nashville. Now that I have kids of my own I was able to! The wait wasn't too long on an earlier Sunday morning. The wait for food took awhile. I got the pastalaya and it was good it needed just a little more spice and salt on the bland side. The shareable appetizer was good. My husband enjoyed his burger. And lots of birthday thrills and excited faces.
google avatar

Phoebe T.

Yelp
We were close by and decided to eat a late lunch here. We all had a blast! The food was pretty good, the ambiance is crazy fun. I felt like we were in an amusement park! It really felt like a show at all times. Kind of expensive but well worth the money for the ambiance and decent food.

Yelp
I am the biggest fan of themed restaurants. That being said, whenever I'm in Nashville I try to stop by the Rainforest Cafe. The theming is very impressive. It looks as though you are in the middle of the rainforest and every 30 minutes or so a thunderstorm activates and all of the animals come to life (this can be intimidating to the younger crowd so just keep that in mind). They stay very busy. While you can just go sit at the bar, if you want to sit in the main forest area I highly recommend having reservations. We love to get the spinach and artichoke dip as our appetizer. I got the Amazon Fajitas (combo of beef and chicken). They have drinks that come in light up souvenir glasses and since I'm a sucker for flashy things, I tend to order one of those. The portions are more than generous and you will not leave hungry! If you have room leftover I recommend getting the Volcano for dessert. Keep in mind that particular dessert is created for the entire table so be prepared for large portions!
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
The atmosphere of any rainforest cafe is what draws me in. I was in town for a concert and decided to check this location out. I was pleases with my server and the food. The salmon was nice and the steak was tasty. I left only three stars because the bathroom was a bit untidy and that really makes me wonder about other areas of a reataraunt.
google avatar

Yelp
When I got here at 12:20 I got seated and had to Wait 15 minutes for my waiter to get here. I placed my order for a simple cheeseburger with nothing on it and had to wait 40 minutes for it. I ate it and it was pretty good, the fries were sweet and a little crispy and the burger was very good, it was sweet like the fries and the bun was good too and the burger itself was very good and cooked well. It is very loud here and there is someone with a camera and it has a very bright flash on it, so bright I could see it from across the room. There are also fish tanks and gorillas.

Brittani B.

Yelp
I went to Rainforest Cafe with my family and our server Amber was great. We were a party of 10 and she always had a smile and super friendly. If you are visiting Nashville stop by and see Amber and get the Volcano, it didn't disappoint.

Yelp
Haven't been to a rainforest café in years. We decided to try this one because it looked inviting. When we walked up, there was a waiting list, but they were able to take the three of us right in. We got seated right away, our waitress came up immediately to take a drink order and to see if we wanted an appetizer. We ordered a Spinach, artichoke dip. It came right out very quickly and it was hot and delicious and the chips were fresh and crunchy. When she came back with our drinks, we decided to order our meals then. My husband ordered the Blue Mountain chicken sandwich with fries, my daughter ordered the Taste of the island platter and I ordered the blackened chicken with bourbon. Shrimp platter. Our meals came out pretty quickly and all three were delicious. My jerk chicken was a bit hot for me, but that's what jerk chicken is, the rice was outstanding. It was so deliciously coconut and I enjoyed that a lot. My daughter enjoyed her meal immensely, and she had also ordered a Raspberry rainfall from the bar with a take-home glass and she said that was super good, and my husband said his sandwich was delicious. We were all so full each of us left something on our plate. All in all we had a great time, great service, great food, and we would definitely go back there!! Everything came to about $121. Wow.

Ali G.

Yelp
Service was great - Wills Heuss was awesome! He recommended great drinks and food we will be back

Yelp
Food, Service and ambience were all great. First of all, Rainforest Cafe is oozing ambience albeit primarily targeted for kids. The service from Steven L. was great. He explained different parts of the menu and pricing. When ordering he asked questions about what we ordered to get clarification so that we would receive what we wanted. He also joked around a bit with us. We received our appetizer quickly which was good although a bit dry. Our food arrived in probably 15 minutes and was all very good. I had the iggy's piggy or something like that and it was delicious. The burgers and pastalaya was also good. We received refills on drinks I plenty of time and overall it was a great experience. I wouldn't hesitate going back.

Yelp
Food is mediocre. Service is slow. Prices are high but the scenery can be exciting at times. It's an experience but a very forgettable one for me.
google avatar

Monique A.

Yelp
They have a great menu and offer you several menu choices. I tried the fish tacos and they were very tasty. It is a great location for you to bring the kids to. They offer a souvenir shop and have jungle animals around the restaurant that make sounds and have some movements to them to keep the kids entertained.

Yelp
Traveling thru Nashville and ate at RainForest Cafe. Food was great and Service was great too. Our server, Maryelissa, was great too!! She was very helpful and accommodating. We had a fun time and will definitely return!! Thanks to All!

Yelp
My families experience tonight (6/14/24) was amazing! Our waitress, Katie did an excellent job making us feel welcome, very knowledgeable on the menu, and made our day special because while we were eating dinner, my wife was FaceTiming with her brother who lives in NY. From Katie and my wife talking, she learned that he lives in NY and that it was his birthday. Not long after, Katie and a few other waitresses, came out with a dessert and they all sang happy birthday to him while my wife was on FaceTime with him. It was super special to us that Katie made this happen! The last two categories of this review are food, which was excellent, and the ambiance, which was no better or worse than your typical Rainforest Cafe. My dinner consisted of the Spicy Korean Stir Fry. It had a kick but tasted amazing.

Yelp
this place exceeded my expectations! the atmosphere was so fun, i loved the fake thunderstorms. the food is actually not bad! the flatbread and the nachos were a good size and tasted so delicious. the price was also very fair! i would recommend for a fun and unusual dining experience

Yelp
Gave me wrong order and gave broccoli that smelled horrible. Don't recommend unless you like bad food. Save your time and your money and go somewhere else. Ambiance was good but they put so much into it that the food was bad. Service too. Took them forever just to do anything. Waste of money. Carrots in mashed potatoes and weird stuff in the pizza.

Yelp
Tiffany did a great job and we had great service and great food. Love the atmosphere.

Yelp
Great spot with kids. Animated elephants on wall were biggest hit and like the Disney thing. Aquariums all over. Service Was quick and attentive. Big salads were good. Chicken/shrimp was fair but food wasn't the biggest attraction

Freddie C.

Yelp
The food was outstanding. The service even better. The ambiance was so fun and exciting. Amber suggested the Bombay Chicken and shrimp and I wasn't disappointed. Ask for Amber she has knowledge of the food and drinks. I will be back.
